What is respawningstructures mod?

The respawning structures mod is part of the pack at version 4.4. The jar is respawningstructures-1.21.1-4.4.jar, so it is built for 1.21.1.[1]

It has been in the pack for a long time: the mod list shows it was first included in version 1.0.0 or earlier.[1]

How do you get started with respawningstructures mod?

1 part

This mod works in the background, so your first steps are about knowing the rules it plays by in this pack. Everything is set in one file, and enableAutomaticRespawn.enableAutomaticRespawn is true, so automatic respawning of structures is switched on.[2]

What to know first

  1. Structures respawn on a timer. The pack sets minutesUntilRespawn.minutesUntilRespawn to 120 minutes. The timer starts after the last activity inside the structure.[2]
  2. The Overworld is excluded. dimensionBlackList.dimensionBlackList contains minecraft:overworld, so it is on the dimension blacklist.[2]
  3. The pack turns on whitelist.whitelist, which changes the structure blacklist into a whitelist. The listed structures are the pack's own vaults (ftb:vaults/...) and ftb:water_orb, and the same list is also set in respawnableStructures.respawnableStructures, which makes them always respawn no matter what a player builds inside.[2]
  4. Your building does not block respawns. blockCountMod.blockCountMod is 0 in this pack, which means respawn ignores placed and broken blocks.[2]
  5. Stay out of the way if you want a respawn. playerRespawnDist.playerRespawnDist is 120 blocks from your respawn position, such as a bed. playerNearbyTime.playerNearbyTime is 15 percent: if you were nearby for more than that share of the respawn time, the respawn is prevented and the counter resets.[2]
Tip: Respawned dungeons are not tougher here. increaseDifficultyWithRespawn.increaseDifficultyWithRespawn is false in this pack, while the mod's listed default is true. logRespawns.logRespawns is true, so respawns are written to latest.log if you want to check that one happened.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no items, recipes or quests for this mod, so I can't point you to a crafting step or a quest chapter for it.

How does respawningstructures mod work?

5 parts

Respawning Structures works through one config file and a few block tags. It brings structures back in the world after a delay, and the pack tunes how and when that happens. Here is how it behaves in this pack.[2][3]

When a structure can respawn

Automatic respawning is on in the pack, because enableAutomaticRespawn.enableAutomaticRespawn is true.[2]

The respawn timer starts after the last activity within the structure. The pack sets minutesUntilRespawn.minutesUntilRespawn to 120 minutes, which is shorter than the mod's own default, so structures come back faster here.[2]

The pack sets playerRespawnDist.playerRespawnDist to 120 blocks. This is the minimum distance from your respawn position (a bed, for example) that allows a structure to respawn, and it is lower than the mod's default.[2]

playerNearbyTime.playerNearbyTime stops respawns in busy player areas. It tracks what percent of the respawn time a player was nearby loading the chunk, and when it prevents a respawn, the respawn time counter resets. The pack sets it to 15.[2]

Building inside a structure

Placed and broken blocks inside a structure can normally prevent its respawn. The pack sets blockCountMod.blockCountMod to 0, which means respawn ignores placed and broken blocks entirely.[2]

Tip: Because blockCountMod.blockCountMod is 0 in this pack, your builds will not stop a respawnable structure from resetting. Do your permanent building outside the structure.[2]

Which structures respawn

The pack turns whitelist.whitelist on, which changes the structure blacklist into a whitelist. So blacklistedStructures.blacklistedStructures acts as the list of structures that are allowed here. It holds the pack's own ftb:vaults/... entries (including the Twilight Forest ones) and ftb:water_orb.[2]

respawnableStructures.respawnableStructures holds the same entries. Structures on that list always respawn, even if a player built inside them or has a portal there.[2]

dimensionBlackList.dimensionBlackList is a list of blacklisted dimension ids. In the pack it contains minecraft:overworld.[2]

Difficulty and logging

The mod can make mobs in respawned dungeons tougher, with enchanted items or potion effects. The pack turns this off: increaseDifficultyWithRespawn.increaseDifficultyWithRespawn is false.[2]

logRespawns.logRespawns is true, so structure respawns are written to latest.log. That is handy if you want to check whether a structure has reset.[2]

Block tags

The mod ships several block tags. The keepexisting tag contains the Waystones tag (marked as not required) and the Minecraft portals tag.[3]

The redstone tag contains repeaters, comparators, redstone wire, observers, hoppers, trapdoors, dispensers, pistons and sticky pistons. The norespawn tag is empty.[4][5]

Unverified The contents of the keepalways block tag (data/respawningstructures/tags/block/keepalways.json) are not shown in the sources here, so what it keeps is unverified.

How do you progress through respawningstructures mod?

1 part

Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve this mod and no recipes that produce its items, so they do not show a tier path or progression steps for it in this pack. Nothing is laid out here as a tier.

What the mod's block tags show

What can be confirmed is a set of block tag files that ship in the mod's jar. They are lists of blocks, not tiers, but they show which blocks the mod singles out.[3][4][5]

  • The keepexisting tag contains the Waystones block tag, marked as not required, and the Minecraft portals tag.[3]
  • The norespawn tag is empty in the mod's jar, so it lists no blocks by default.[5]
  • The redstone tag lists Repeater, Comparator, Observer, Hopper, Dispenser, Piston and Sticky Piston, plus redstone wire and the Minecraft trapdoors tag.[4]

The sources here do not describe how the mod uses each of these tags, so this section does not describe their behaviour.[3][4][5]

Which respawningstructures mod config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Respawning Structures is controlled by one file, config/respawningstructures.json. This pack changes several values from the mod defaults, so structures come back faster here and with fewer conditions than the mod would normally allow. Here are the options you will most likely care about.[6]

Values the pack changed

Values left at the default

Which structures respawn

blacklistedStructures.blacklistedStructures lists the FTB vault structures (burning_disco, chicken_jockey, create_vault, echoing_dread, mffs, portal and the Twilight Forest hydra, knight, lich, snow_queen and yeti vaults) plus ftb:water_orb. The option's description calls this a list of structures that never respawn. In this pack, though, the whitelist option is on, which changes the list's role to a whitelist.[6]

respawnableStructures.respawnableStructures contains exactly the same entries. Those structures always respawn, even if a player built something inside or placed a portal there.[6]

dimensionBlackList.dimensionBlackList contains minecraft:overworld, so the Overworld is on the dimension blacklist.[6]

Tip: If you edit the file, remember that the list options take multiple entries separated by commas, as the option descriptions say. Check which mode whitelist.whitelist puts you in before changing a list.[6]
