Entangled is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.3.21. Entangled allows you to 'entangle' two blocks together! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Entangled?

2 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy, fluids or whatever else you like between them instantly. You can also get more than six sides to work with, or tuck your messy cables out of sight.[1]

Binding even works between dimensions: just select a block in a different dimension with the Entangled Binder.[1]

How it works in a nutshell

The mod gives you two tools. The Entangled Block absorbs the state of another block, and the Entangled Binder controls which blocks get bound together.[1]

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder, then place the Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

In this pack

This pack includes Entangled version 1.3.21.[2]

The pack's quest book covers it in the "useful_items_tips" chapter. The quest "Entangling Blocks" quest has Block and Item as its tasks.[3]

How do you get started with Entangled?

4 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy or fluids between them instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables. The setup is short, so this section is short too.[1]

What to make first

You need two things: an Block and a tool to bind it. The pack's quest for this mod asks you to get both Block and Item, so it's a good checklist to follow. The quest is "Entangling Blocks" quest.[3]

The mod's own description calls the second item the Entangled Binder, which controls what the Entangled Block binds to. The sources I have don't confirm which item id is the binder, and they don't include the pack's crafting recipes for either item. Check the in-game recipe viewer for those.[1][3]

Binding your first block

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

After binding, the tooltips tell you what a block is linked to and where. A bound block shows its target and location, and an unbound one tells you how far or into which dimensions it can be bound.[4]

Unbinding and resetting

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The pack also has a shapeless crafting recipe that takes an Entangled Block and gives back an Entangled Block. Going by its id, it's meant for clearing the block's stored data, though the sources don't spell out exactly what it resets.[5]

BlockMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: entangled:entangled_clear_nbt

Range and dimensions

The mod can limit how far an Entangled Block reaches and whether it can bind across dimensions. Its defaults are no distance limit and cross-dimension binding allowed. The tooltip on your block shows which limits apply.[1][4]

Unverified The pack may change the mod's distance and dimension settings, and the sources don't show the pack's actual values. Trust the tooltip on your own Entangled Block over the defaults listed here.

How does Entangled work?

6 parts

Entangled is a small mod with one big trick: it lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. Items, energy and fluids can move between them instantly, and you get more than six sides to work with. It also lets you hide messy cables.[1]

How an Entangled Block works

The Block absorbs the state of another block. Once it is bound, you treat it as a stand-in for the target. The Entangled Binder is the tool that decides which blocks get bound together.[1]

Binding and unbinding

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The mod's tooltips show you what is linked. The Binder reports the block it is holding as a link, with coordinates and the dimension. A bound Entangled Block says what it is bound to, again with coordinates and dimension.[4]

Range and dimensions in this pack

The pack changes two of the mod's binding rules. The mod normally allows binding between dimensions, but the pack sets General.allowDimensional to false, so you cannot bind blocks across dimensions here.[1][6]

The pack also sets General.maxDistance to 32. The mod default is -1, which means unlimited range. This limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension, so in this pack your target has to be within 32 blocks.[6]

Watch out: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance does not affect Entangled Blocks that are already bound. The new rules only apply to new bindings.[6]

The mod has tooltip text for each combination of range and dimension setting. For example, one variant says a block can be bound to blocks in the same dimension up to a set number of blocks away.[4]

What can be a target

Targets are controlled by the entangled:invalid_targets block tag. By default it works as a blacklist: an Entangled Block cannot target any block in the tag. If you turn on General.useWhitelist, the tag becomes a whitelist and Entangled Blocks can only bind to blocks in it. The pack leaves this option off.[1][6]

Unverified Which blocks are in the entangled:invalid_targets tag in this pack is not shown by the sources here, so you cannot tell from them which blocks are blocked as targets.

Rendering options

Two client-side options control how the block looks. Client.renderBlockHighlight highlights the bound block while you look at an Entangled Block. Client.rotateRenderedBlock decides whether the block rendered inside an Entangled Block spins. The pack leaves both on.[1][6]

The mod also has an entangled:render_blacklist tag. Blocks in it are not rendered inside Entangled Blocks, and the same name exists as a block entity type tag.[1]

This shapeless mod recipe is the Entangled recipe in the pack's recipe dump.

How do you progress through Entangled?

2 parts

Entangled doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack, at least not one the available pack data shows. I can't confirm any upgrade steps, tier names or gated recipes, so I'm not going to invent a progression path for you.[3][5]

Where the quest book mentions it

The quest book touches Entangled once, in the "useful_items_tips" chapter. The quest "Entangling Blocks" quest has no title in the pack data. Its tasks involve two items: Block and Item.[3]

The quest is a tips-style entry, not a step in a tiered chain. The sources show nothing that makes you unlock or upgrade anything in a set order.[3]

The one in-pack recipe I can confirm

The pack's recipe dump lists one mod recipe that produces an Entangled item. It is a shapeless crafting recipe that takes an Block and gives back an Block. Here is the exact in-pack version:[5]

BlockMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: entangled:entangled_clear_nbt

Unverified The recipe id suggests this one clears stored data from the block, but the sources don't describe what it does. Test it in your own world before relying on it. Recipes for obtaining the Entangled block or item in the first place also weren't in the data I had.

How does Entangled work with other mods?

2 parts

Entangled works with other mods by design: you bind a placed Entangled Block to another block and can interact with either one as if they were the same block, moving items, energy or fluids instantly. In this pack, the one recipe that ties Entangled to other mods is a machine recipe that uses materials from Oritech and RFTools Base.[1][5]

The World Engine recipe

The pack adds a Custom Machinery recipe, with an id under world_engine, that takes Block together with Duratium Ingot, Energite Ingot and Infused Enderpearl. Because it is a machine recipe, you won't craft it at a normal crafting table. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[5]

Added by the pack

Custom Machine (custommachinery)

Recipe id: ftb:world_engine/entangled_block_x2

This recipe is added by the pack and is a Custom Machinery recipe.

Quest book

Entangled has a quest in the useful_items_tips chapter, "Entangling Blocks" quest. Its tasks are Block and Item. It only involves Entangled items, so it is not a cross-mod quest.[3]

Tip: By default Entangled can bind blocks between different dimensions, since allowDimensional is true and maxDistance is -1, which means no distance limit.[1]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Entangled?

Entangled shows up in only one quest chapter in this pack: "useful_items_tips". That chapter has a single quest that involves the mod, so there's no order to follow for it.[3]

The quest "Entangling Blocks" quest has no title. Its tasks are two items from the mod, Block and Item.[3]

Unverified The quest's description, rewards, and whether the tasks are checked or consumed aren't in the available quest data, so I can't say what completing it gives you.

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Entangled has only a handful of options, but this pack changes two of them from the mod defaults. Both change how far apart you can link blocks, so check them before you plan a build.[6]

Values the pack changed

  • General.maxDistance is set to 32 in this pack. The mod default is -1, which means infinite range. The limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension, so your Entangled Block and its target need to be within 32 blocks of each other.[6]
  • General.allowDimensional is set to false in this pack. The mod default is true. You can't bind an Entangled Block to a block in a different dimension here.[6]
Watch out: Both of these options only affect new bindings. The config says previously bound entangled blocks won't be affected, so a binding made under different settings keeps working.[6]

Options left at their defaults

  • General.useWhitelist is false, the same as the mod default. The entangled:invalid_targets block tag therefore works as a blacklist, so blocks in that tag can't be targeted. If it were true, entangled blocks could only bind to blocks in the tag.[1][6]
  • Client.renderBlockHighlight is true, the same as the default. When you look at an Entangled Block, the block it is bound to is highlighted.[6]
  • Client.rotateRenderedBlock is true, the same as the default. The block rendered inside an Entangled Block rotates.[6]
Tip: The two client options are client-side settings that only change what you see. If the highlight or the spinning block bothers you, you can switch them off.[1][6]

What changed in Entangled between versions?

1 part

Your pack ships Entangled 1.3.21, and it has been in FTB StoneBlock 4 since 1.0.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes across the mod's releases, newest first, so you can see what has been fixed along the way.[2]

Entangled releases

  • 1.3.21 (the version in your pack): fixed a cached block entity not being invalidated when new entangled block data arrived from the server. Japanese translations were also added.[7]
  • 1.3.20a: the entangled block now works automatically with modded capabilities. This matters in a big pack, because it means the block isn't limited to vanilla-style interactions.[7][8]
  • 1.3.20: fixed WAILA, Jade and The One Probe showing air when the bound block was far away.[7][8]
  • 1.3.19a: fixed the entangled block querying capabilities from its own dimension instead of the bound block's dimension.[7][8]
  • 1.3.19: added a config option to whitelist blocks rather than blacklist them. Fixed a crash when breaking entangled blocks that were bound to each other. Russian and Turkish translations were added, and Simplified Chinese was updated.[7][8]
  • 1.3.18a: fixed getting disconnected when joining a LAN world.[7][8]
  • 1.3.18: the initial release of Entangled for Minecraft 1.21.[7][8]
Tip: If you run into the cross-dimension or far-away display problems described above, they were fixed in 1.3.19a and 1.3.20, so your 1.3.21 version already includes those fixes.[2][7]
