What is Crystalix?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Crystalix adds colored glass blocks that can do a lot more than just look pretty. This pack includes version 4.1.0 of the mod.[1][2]

The mod has only 3 different types of glass (this has been the case since version 2.3.0), and the first one is basically invisible. You can apply any color to any glass type, so the color combinations are practically endless.[1]

The Crystalix Wand

You change a block's properties with the Crystalix Wand. Hold V (the default key) to open the config window, then set the block's properties there.[1]

  • Crouch while using the wand to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply properties without applying color.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties of the block you are targeting onto the wand.[1]
  • Left click or scroll down to cycle forwards, right click or scroll up to cycle backwards.[1]

Properties

Properties can be mixed and matched however you like. Here are the ones the mod offers:[1]

  • Invisibility: the block has no visual, but keeps the properties of the glass.[1]
  • Transparent: the texture is fully transparent and color only shows on a few specks.[1]
  • Waterloggable: sets whether the block can be waterlogged.[1]
  • Reinforced: indestructible to everything, including the wither and ender dragon, except a player mining it. It is also 10x harder to mine.[1]
  • Shadeless: removes the shadows and shade from the block.[1]
  • Redstone: the block emits a redstone signal of 15.[1]
  • Conductor: the block conducts redstone through it like a solid block.[1]
  • Ghost: makes the block passthrough for nothing, everything, only players, everything except players, only hostile mobs, everything except hostile mobs, only passive mobs, or everything except passive mobs.[1]
  • Light: cycles through None, Light (glows at light level 15), Dark (blocks light like tinted glass) and Fake Light (glows at light level 15 but still allows mobs to spawn).[1]
  • Color: opens the color picker so you can choose any color for your glass.[1]

How do you get started with Crystalix?

4 parts

Crystalix adds colored glass blocks with a lot of different functions. You craft the glass first, then use a wand to change what each block does and what color it is. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: make some glass

There are only 3 kinds of glass: Crystalix Glass, Clear Crystalix Glass and Bordered Crystalix Glass. You can apply any color to any of the 3 types, so the choice is mostly about the look of the base block. The recipes are shown below.[1][3][4]

The pack changed this recipe, so follow the one shown here.

The bordered glass recipe is the one the pack has changed, so use the recipe shown above and not what you may remember from the mod elsewhere. The other glass recipes are the mod's own.[3]

Next: craft the Crystalix Wand

The Crystalix Wand is the tool that makes the mod work. It lets you cycle through the properties of a block and set them, so make it right after your first glass blocks.[1]

Step three: learn the wand controls

  • Hold V (the default key) to open the wand config window. The key bind is called Open Wand Config and sits in the Crystalix category.[1][4]
  • Left click or scroll down cycles forward through the options. Right click or scroll up cycles backward.[1]
  • Crouching lets you edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply properties without applying the color.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties from the block you are currently targeting onto the wand.[1]

Step four: try a few properties

Properties can be mixed however you like. Good ones to start with are Color, which opens a color picker, Waterloggable, Light and Redstone. The Redstone property makes a block emit a signal of 15. The Light property has modes, including one that glows at light level 15 and one that blocks light like tinted glass.[1][4]

Watch out: The Reinforced property makes a block indestructible to everything except a player mining it, and it makes mining 10x harder. Don't put it on blocks you may want to remove quickly.[1]
Tip: Editing a big connected area is limited by the pack's config. max_edit_force caps how many blocks the wand can edit overall, and max_edit_operations caps how many it edits per tick. This pack sets them to 16,384 and 512, which match the mod defaults. If the game warns that you have a large selection, give it a few seconds.[4][5]

How does Crystalix work?

5 parts

Crystalix is all about colored glass blocks and a wand that edits them. The mod adds Crystalix Glass, Clear Crystalix Glass and Bordered Crystalix Glass. You can give any color to any of them, and you stack properties on top to change how the block behaves.[1][4]

Crafting the glass and the wand

Each glass type has its own crafting recipe. The Bordered Crystalix Glass recipe was changed by the pack, so follow the one shown here rather than what you may remember from the mod on its own.[3]

The wand is the tool you use to set colors and properties.

Using the Crystalix Wand

The Crystalix Wand cycles through every property and color you can set on a block. Hold V (the default key) to open its config window, where you choose what the wand applies.[1][4]

  • Left click or scroll down to cycle forward. Right click or scroll up to cycle backward.[1][4]
  • The color picker opens from the wand's middle-click control.[4]
  • Crouch while using the wand to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply the properties without the color. The mod's key list calls this Apply Colorless.[1][4]
  • Press X while targeting a block to copy its properties onto the wand. The key list calls this Copy Properties.[1][4]

If you select a large group of blocks, the game warns you that it may take a few seconds.[4]

Edit limits in this pack

The config caps how much the wand can change at once. max_edit_force limits the total number of blocks that can be edited with the wand, and it is 16,384 in this pack. max_edit_operations limits how many blocks can be edited per tick, and it is 512 in this pack. Both match the mod defaults, so the pack hasn't changed them.[5]

Properties

You can mix properties however you like. Here is what each one does.[1]

  • Invisible: the block is not rendered at all. This is handy when you want the glass's properties without a visible block.[1][4]
  • Transparent: the texture becomes fully transparent, and color only shows on a few specks of the glass.[1][4]
  • Waterloggable: lets you place water in the same block.[1][4]
  • Reinforced: nothing can destroy the block, including the wither and the ender dragon, except a player mining it. Mining it takes 10 times longer.[1][4]
  • Shadeless: the block removes its own shade and doesn't show shade thrown by other blocks.[1][4]
  • Redstone: the block emits a redstone signal of 15.[1][4]
  • Conductor: redstone is conducted through the block like a solid block.[1][4]
  • Color: opens the color picker so you can choose any color for the glass.[1]

Ghost and Light modes

Ghost makes the block passable for a group of entities that you pick. The options are Nothing, Everything, Only Players, Everything except Players, Only Hostile Mobs, Everything except Hostile Mobs, Only Passive Mobs and Everything except Passive Mobs.[1]

Light cycles through these modes:[1]

  • None: no special property.[1]
  • Light: the block glows at light level 15.[1]
  • Dark: the block blocks light the same way tinted glass does.[1]
  • Fake Light: the block glows at light level 15 but still allows mobs to spawn.[1]

How do you progress through Crystalix?

2 parts

Crystalix is a decorative glass mod, and in this pack it comes down to a handful of shaped crafting recipes: glass variants and a wand. The recipes below are the in-pack versions.[3]

The glass variants

Each glass recipe is a shaped crafting recipe that gives you 4 blocks per craft, so a single craft goes a long way.[3]

Which Crystalix config options matter?

2 parts

A few Crystalix options change how Jade and the Wand overlay show up, and how many blocks the Wand can edit. Here's how this pack sets each one.[5][6]

Client options

  • jade_mode is set to ALWAYS in this pack. The mod default is WAND, so this is a change the pack made. With ALWAYS, Jade shows whenever you look at a block. The other allowed values are WAND (only while holding a wand) and NEVER (never show Jade).[6]
  • wand_info is TOP_RIGHT, which matches the mod default. It controls whether the wand information overlay shows and where. You can switch it to TOP_LEFT to anchor it to the top-left corner, or NONE to hide it.[6]

Common options

These options limit how many blocks the Wand can edit. Both use the mod's default values in this pack, so the pack hasn't changed them.[5]

  • max_edit_force is 16,384. It caps the total number of blocks that can be edited with the wand overall.[5]
  • max_edit_operations is 512. It sets the maximum number of blocks the wand can edit per tick.[5]
Tip: Crouching with the Wand edits all connecting blocks at once, and max_edit_force is the overall cap on how many blocks the wand can edit.[1][5]

What changed in Crystalix between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Crystalix 3.0.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for Crystalix, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[7]

Mod releases

  • 3.0.0: block migration was removed, the number of block states was reduced (this resolves an issue with world-edit and speeds up loading time), and a fake dark property was added. That property allows a block that renders no light on the client but still emits light on the server side.[8]
  • 2.3.0b: fixes a crash during chunk migration. You only need it if you crash while trying to connect to a multiplayer server, and you can still connect to servers running 2.3.0.[9]
  • 2.1.0: the Modrinth release.[10]
Watch out: The 3.0.0 changelog says that with block migration removed, worlds from before 2.3.0 will lose their blocks. If you are carrying over an old world, keep that in mind.[8]

Unverified No changelog for Crystalix 3.0.1, the version in this pack, was available, so what changed from 3.0.0 is unverified.
