Cable Tiers is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.21.1-0.6.14. Adds better Exporter, Importer, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Autocrafter, Interface, Requester from Refined Storage and RSRequestify (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Cable Tiers?

2 parts

Cable Tiers is an add-on for Refined Storage. It gives you upgraded versions of the cable-attached devices you already use, so one device can do more work without you building a pile of copies. The pack ships version 1.21.1-0.6.14.[1][2]

According to the mod's description, it improves the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Manipulator, Interface and Requester from Refined Storage and RSRequestify. In this pack you will mostly meet the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor and Disk Interface tiers.[1][3]

Elite, Ultra and Mega tiers

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, with a stack upgrade integrated.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots, 6.5x faster, with a stack upgrade integrated.[1]

The mod also lists a few special features: tag filtering, side-specific inputs for autocrafting, and an import mode for Autocrafters.[1]

Who it is for and where it fits

The quest book treats these upgrades as interchangeable with the base Refined Storage devices in the logistics storage chapter. One quest accepts an Elite, Ultra or Mega version of the Elite Importer, Elite Exporter or their higher tiers, or the plain Refined Storage version, alongside a Refined Storage Interface. Another quest does the same for the Elite Constructor and Elite Destructor lines. So you can finish those quests with the basic devices and upgrade later. See "I/O Connections" quest and "World Interaction Devices" quest.[3]

Disk Interfaces work the same way. "Interacting With Stored Items" quest asks for the Refined Storage Disk Interface plus any one of the Elite Disk Interface, Ultra Disk Interface, Mega Disk Interface or Creative Disk Interface.[3]

The creative chapter also has a quest, "Creative Disk Interface" quest, that needs the Ultra Disk Interface. The other tasks in that quest are enriched quartz iron and a neural processor.[4]

How do you get started with Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers doesn't add a whole new system. It gives you upgraded versions of Refined Storage parts: importers, exporters, constructors, destructors, disk interfaces, autocrafters, interfaces and requesters. So your first job is to get a basic Refined Storage network running, then upgrade the parts you use most.[1]

What each tier gives you

This is how the mod's own project page describes the tiers. It is the mod's description, not a list of the pack's config values.[1]

Your first upgrades, in order

The Elite, Ultra and Mega upgrade recipes for the importers, exporters, constructors, destructors and disk interfaces are all marked as changed by the pack. The recipe blocks below show exactly what this pack asks for. Each Elite recipe starts from the matching Refined Storage part.[5]

  1. Start with the Elite Importer and Elite Exporter. They move items in and out of your network, and the extra filter slots help most here. "I/O Connections" quest asks for an importer, an exporter and a Refined Storage Interface, and it accepts either the plain Refined Storage parts or the Elite, Ultra and Mega versions.[1][3][5]
  2. Next, the Elite Constructor and Elite Destructor, which place and break blocks for your automation. "World Interaction Devices" quest takes either the Refined Storage versions or the tiered ones.[3][5]
  3. Then the Elite Disk Interface. "Interacting With Stored Items" quest asks for a Refined Storage Disk Interface and a tiered one (Elite, Ultra, Mega or Creative).[3][5]

Climbing to Ultra and Mega

Tiers build on each other. The Ultra recipe takes the Elite version of the same part, and the Mega recipe takes the Ultra version. You can't skip a tier, so keep the Elite version when you move up.[5]

The Ultra Disk Interface also shows up as a task in "Creative Disk Interface" quest, a quest in the creative chapter.[4]

In this pack the Ultra step needs the Elite version of the part first.

Once you have tiered parts, you can recolor them with dye. The pack has coloring recipes, for example gray dye for the Elite, Ultra and Mega constructors, destructors, exporters and importers, and light blue dye for the disk interfaces.[5]

How does Cable Tiers work?

9 parts

Cable Tiers adds upgraded versions of Refined Storage devices: Importers, Exporters, Constructors, Destructors, Disk Interfaces, Autocrafters and Interfaces. Each comes in Elite, Ultra and Mega tiers, plus a Creative tier. The tiers differ in filter slots, speed and energy cost, and the numbers below are the ones this pack uses.[1][6]

What each tier gives you

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, and a Stack Upgrade built in.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots and a Stack Upgrade built in. The project page says 6.5x faster, but the pack's config sets the Mega speed to 8, and the config is what this pack uses.[1][7]

Speed

Autocrafters, Constructors, Destructors, Exporters and Importers all use the same speed values in this pack: 2 for Elite, 5 for Ultra and 8 for Mega. The Creative tier is far beyond that: 100 for the Creative Autocrafter and 15,000 for the Creative Constructor, Destructor, Exporter and Importer. These match the mod defaults.[7]

Each of these is its own option in the config file, for example tieredConstructors.megaSpeed and tieredAutocrafters.creativeSpeed.[6][7]

Watch out: The pack changed the Disk Interface speed. Every Disk Interface tier, Creative included, is set to 1 instead of the mod default of 0, for example tieredDiskInterface.ultraSpeed. So Disk Interfaces do not follow the pattern of the other devices.[7]

Energy usage

Higher tiers cost more energy. These are the pack's values, and they are all the mod defaults:[7]

  • Autocrafters, Constructors, Destructors and Interfaces: 5 for Elite, 9 for Ultra and 17 for Mega.[7]
  • Exporters and Importers: 4 for Elite, 8 for Ultra and 16 for Mega.[7]
  • Disk Interfaces: 7 for Elite, 11 for Ultra and 19 for Mega.[7]

Each device has its own key, such as tieredDestructors.eliteEnergyUsage, tieredExporters.megaEnergyUsage and tieredDiskInterface.eliteEnergyUsage.[6][7]

Built-in Stack Upgrade

For Constructors, Exporters, Importers and Disk Interfaces, the pack integrates the Stack Upgrade at Ultra and Mega but not at Elite. For instance, tieredConstructors.eliteStackUpgradeIntegrated is false and tieredConstructors.megaStackUpgradeIntegrated is true. Items with the upgrade built in say "Has a Stack Upgrade integrated" in their tooltip.[6][7]

Interfaces

Interfaces work with a transfer quota multiplier and a number of input/output slots, and both appear in the item tooltip. The pack's multipliers are 50 for Elite, 100 for Ultra and 200 for Mega, which are the mod defaults. The Creative Interface is set to 9,223,372,036,854,776,000.[6][7]

The keys are tieredInterfaces.eliteTransferQuotaMultiplier, tieredInterfaces.ultraTransferQuotaMultiplier, tieredInterfaces.megaTransferQuotaMultiplier and tieredInterfaces.creativeTransferQuotaMultiplier.[7]

Autocrafters

Tiered Autocrafters are faster than a normal one and have extra input slots, and the tooltip shows the exact count. They also add an Import mode setting with these options:[6]

  • Do not import[6]
  • Import everything[6]
  • Import outputs from inserted pattern[6]
  • Import only requested resources[6]
  • Import only requested resources including sub-ingredients[6]

Cable Tiers also adds side-specific inputs for autocrafting. In the Pattern Grid, the option "Change input sides (Cable Tiers)" lets you change the side from which resources are inserted. You can pick Up, Down, North, South, East or West, or None. The resource slots show the resources that will be inserted into the target inventory.[1][6]

Filters

Tiered cables have extra filter slots, and the tooltip shows the total. Click a filter slot to open the advanced filter, which has a Tag Filter option.[1][6]

Crafting the tiers

The pack changed the recipes for the Elite, Ultra and Mega tiers. Here is the Constructor line as an example. The Destructor, Exporter and Disk Interface lines are changed by the pack in the same way.[5]

The other lines have their own recipes: Elite Destructor, Ultra Destructor and Mega Destructor, then Elite Exporter, Ultra Exporter and Mega Exporter, and finally Elite Disk Interface, Ultra Disk Interface and Mega Disk Interface.[5]

Creative tier and colours

Creative devices can be recoloured to black with a shapeless recipe, for example Black Creative Constructor. The pack hides the coloured variants of Cable Tiers blocks from the recipe viewer to cut down clutter.[5][8]

Unverified The sources here do not show what unit the speed and energy usage values are measured in, so treat them as relative numbers for comparing tiers. The exact meaning is set in config/cabletiers-common.toml and is not explained in the sources.

How do you progress through Cable Tiers?

4 parts

Cable Tiers adds upgraded versions of the Refined Storage logistics blocks. In this pack you climb through the Elite, Ultra and Mega tiers. The recipes for all of them are changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipes.[5]

The tier ladder

The path is a straight upgrade chain. Elite is crafted from the matching plain Refined Storage block. Ultra is crafted from the Elite version, and Mega from the Ultra version. This covers importers, exporters, constructors, destructors and disk interfaces. The recipes below show the importer line, and the other block types follow the same pattern.[5]

Each step asks for a heavier material than the last, so check the recipe cards for the exact costs. The same pattern applies to the Elite Exporter, Ultra Constructor, Mega Destructor and the disk interface line, which runs from Elite Disk Interface through Ultra Disk Interface to Mega Disk Interface.[5]

How the quests treat the tiers

For most logistics blocks, the pack's quest book doesn't force you up the tiers. It lists Cable Tiers items as alternatives to the plain Refined Storage blocks. In the logistics and storage chapter, "I/O Connections" quest accepts an Elite, Ultra or Mega importer, or the plain Importer. It does the same for exporters, and it also asks for a Interface. "World Interaction Devices" quest works the same way for constructors and destructors.[3]

"Interacting With Stored Items" quest is about disk interfaces. It asks for the plain Disk Interface and also for a tiered one: Elite, Ultra, Mega or Creative.[3]

Tip: The importer, exporter, constructor and destructor quests accept plain Refined Storage blocks as well as the tiered ones, so upgrading is optional there. Only the disk interface quest asks you for a tiered block.[3]

A later checkpoint in the creative chapter

"Creative Disk Interface" quest in the creative chapter asks for an Ultra Disk Interface, plus Quartz Enriched Iron and an Neural Processor.[4]

Colour variants

Tiered blocks can also be recoloured with dye in a shapeless craft. Gray dye is used for Elite, Ultra and Mega constructors, destructors, exporters and importers, and light blue dye is used for the disk interfaces. Blue and black variants exist for the tiers too, including autocrafters.[5]

How does Cable Tiers work with other mods?

3 parts

Cable Tiers adds higher-tier versions of Refined Storage parts such as importers, exporters, constructors, destructors, interfaces, disk interfaces and autocrafters. In this pack, the link between the two mods shows up in the crafting recipes and in the storage quests.[1][5]

Upgrading Refined Storage parts

The pack changes the Elite and Ultra recipes for the importer, exporter, constructor, destructor, interface and disk interface. The pattern is the same for all six. Each Elite part is built from the Refined Storage part of the same type, and each Ultra part is built from the Elite one. The Advanced Processor from Refined Storage is used at both steps. So you climb the ladder by upgrading what you already have, not by starting from scratch.[5]

Here are the importer recipes as an example. The other five types follow the same pattern.[5]

Tip: These are the pack's own recipes, not the mod's defaults. If you have seen other guides for the mod, check the recipes here before you plan your materials.[5]

Autocrafters and Extra Storage

The autocrafters work differently from the other parts. The pack adds World Engine recipes, which are custom machine recipes, for the Elite Autocrafter and the Ultra Autocrafter. The Elite recipe involves the Iron Autocrafter from Extra Storage. The Ultra recipe involves the Elite autocrafter tag and the Refined Storage Advanced Processor.[5]

Quests that mix both mods

The logistics storage quests treat Cable Tiers parts as valid stand-ins for the Refined Storage ones. This means you don't have to craft the basic version if you already have a tiered one.[3]

The creative chapter also has quest "Creative Disk Interface" quest. It asks for the Ultra Disk Interface together with Quartz Enriched Iron from Refined Storage and Neural Processor from Extra Storage.[4]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Cable Tiers?

2 parts

Cable Tiers appears in the logistics and storage chapter and in the creative chapter of this pack. None of these quests have titles, so you'll know them by their tasks.[3][4]

Logistics and storage chapter

Every Cable Tiers task in this chapter also accepts the base Refined Storage version of the item, so the quests don't force you to use the mod. You can hand in a tiered upgrade if you have one.[3]

On order: the importer and exporter quest and the constructor and destructor quest both unlock after the same earlier quest, so you can do them in either order. The disk interface quest follows a different earlier quest.[3]

Creative chapter

Quest "Creative Disk Interface" quest asks for an Ultra Disk Interface, Refined Storage's quartz enriched iron and the Extra Storage neural processor. Unlike the quests above, this task asks for the Ultra Disk Interface specifically, with no Refined Storage alternative listed. The quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the creative chapter.[4]

Which Cable Tiers config options matter?

5 parts

Every Cable Tiers setting lives in one file, config/cabletiers-common.toml. It is split by device type (autocrafters, constructors, destructors, disk interface, exporters, importers and interfaces), and each device has its own entries for the elite, ultra, mega and creative tiers.[7]

What the pack changed

Only one group differs from the mod default: the disk interface speeds. The pack sets all four of them to 1, where the mod default is 0.[7]

Every other speed, energy usage and transfer quota value listed below matches the mod default, so you won't see surprises there.[7]

Speed settings

Unverified The mod's project page describes Mega as 6.5x faster, while the pack's config has the mega speed entries at 8. How these numbers relate in game is not confirmed, so trust the config value for this pack.

Energy usage

Each tier has its own energy usage entry, and the allowed range is 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. All of these are at the mod default in the pack.[7]

Interface transfer quota

Interfaces use a transfer quota multiplier instead of a speed. The pack keeps the mod defaults: tieredInterfaces.eliteTransferQuotaMultiplier is 50, tieredInterfaces.ultraTransferQuotaMultiplier is 100, and tieredInterfaces.megaTransferQuotaMultiplier is 200. tieredInterfaces.creativeTransferQuotaMultiplier is 9,223,372,036,854,776,000.[7]

Integrated stack upgrade

Constructors, disk interfaces, exporters and importers each have a stack upgrade integrated toggle per tier. In the pack the elite toggle is false and the ultra and mega toggles are true. For example, see tieredConstructors.eliteStackUpgradeIntegrated, tieredExporters.ultraStackUpgradeIntegrated and tieredImporters.megaStackUpgradeIntegrated. That lines up with the mod's own description, which says Ultra and Mega come with a stack upgrade built in.[1][7]

What changed in Cable Tiers between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Cable Tiers 1.21.1-0.6.14. The mod was already in the pack by FTB StoneBlock 4 1.1.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, and I only have changelogs for the versions listed below.[2]

Mod changelog highlights

  • 0.6.14 (the version in this pack): improved performance of sided input.[2][9]
  • 0.6.13: fixed a rare crash.[10]
  • 0.6.12: fixed duplication when using multiple of the same resource in sided patterns.[11]
  • 0.6.11: fixed Lock Mode causing a crash.[12]
  • 0.6.9: fixed sided input failing when a pattern has the exact same resource encoded across multiple slots.[13]
  • 0.6.9: added a new import mode, Import only requested resources including sub-ingredients. It's ideal for brewing multiple potions in the same brewing stand.[13]
  • 0.6.9: added a pt_br translation.[13]
  • 0.6.8: Tiered Interfaces now also support extracting and importing source.[14]
Tip: If you use sided patterns, the fixes in 0.6.9 and 0.6.12 matter to you. Both deal with patterns that repeat the same resource, and this pack is past both of them.[2][11][13]
