What is Advancement Plaques?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Advancement Plaques is a small quality-of-life mod that replaces the plain advancement popups with glowing plaques. If you like seeing your milestones get a bit of a fanfare, this one is for you. It's purely cosmetic, so it won't change how you play.[1]
The pack ships version 1.6.8, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
What you can tweak
- Choose which advancement types get a plaque: Task, Goal, Challenge, or any combination.[1]
- Show plaques at the top or the bottom of the screen, and set how far they sit from that edge.[1]
- Use the whitelist option with a list of advancement IDs if you only want plaques for select advancements.[1]
- Change how the plaques look with a resource pack.[1]
Compatibility
It works with any advancement, including ones added by other mods, and it is fully compatible with Toast Control. The author warns that other mods that affect advancement popups may not work alongside it.[1]
The project page lists Iceberg as a required dependency.[1]
Where it fits in progression
It doesn't. Advancement Plaques adds no progression content, only a different look for advancement popups.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether the pack changes any of this mod's default config values, whether the Forge note about custom sounds needing both client and server applies to the NeoForge build, or whether the pack ships Iceberg itself. Check your config folder in game before relying on any specific setting.
How do you get started with Advancement Plaques?
3 parts
Advancement Plaques replaces the boring advancement popups with fancy glowing plaques. It works with any advancements, even ones added by other mods, and it needs Iceberg to run.[1]
Unverified No crafting recipe or quest for this mod shows up in the sources here, so there are no first items to make. Anything the pack's quest book says about it is not shown in these sources.
Which plaques you see
The mod handles three advancement types: tasks (normal advancements), goals (medium difficulty) and challenges (high difficulty). In this pack all three are switched on, through client.visual_options.tasks, client.visual_options.goals and client.visual_options.challenges.[1][3]
Plaques show at the top of the screen, because client.visual_options.on_top is true. They sit 16 pixels from the screen edge (client.visual_options.distance) with a horizontal offset of 0 (client.visual_options.horizontal_offset). For both of those numbers the pack keeps the mod default.[3]
Tweaking the look and sound
- Duration: task, goal and challenge plaques each use a value of 7 (the mod default, with an allowed range of 2.0 to 10.0), minus the fade in and fade out time. See client.duration_options.task_duration, client.duration_options.goal_duration and client.duration_options.challenge_duration.[3]
- Volume: client.functionality_options.task_volume, client.functionality_options.goal_volume and client.functionality_options.challenge_volume are all 1. Set one to 0 to mute that type.[3]
- Colors: plaque titles use client.visual_options.title_color (#FFFFFFFF) and advancement names use client.visual_options.name_color (#FFFFD857). Both can be entered as an 8-digit #AARRGGBB hex code.[3]
- Popups from other mods: client.visual_options.hide_waila is false, so Waila, HWYLA or Jade popups stay visible while a plaque is showing. Set it to true to hide them.[3]
Filtering which advancements get a plaque
Both client.functionality_options.whitelist and client.functionality_options.blacklist are empty in this pack. An empty whitelist means plaques show for every advancement, and the blacklist takes precedence if they conflict. Entries can be an advancement ID, a mod ID or an advancement category ending in a slash.[3]
How does Advancement Plaques work?
6 parts
Advancement Plaques replaces the standard advancement popups with glowing plaques. It works with any advancement, including ones added by other mods. Everything it does is controlled through client.visual_options.tasks and the other options in its config file, and all of them sit in the client section.[1][3]
Which advancements get a plaque
The mod sorts advancements into three types, and each has its own on/off switch. Tasks are normal advancements, goals are medium difficulty, and challenges are high difficulty. In this pack all three are turned on.[1][3]
- client.visual_options.tasks: plaques for task advancements (true in the pack).[3]
- client.visual_options.goals: plaques for goal advancements (true in the pack).[3]
- client.visual_options.challenges: plaques for challenge advancements (true in the pack).[3]
Whitelist and blacklist
If you only want plaques for certain advancements, use client.functionality_options.whitelist. Leave it empty and plaques show for everything. client.functionality_options.blacklist does the opposite, and it wins if an entry conflicts with the whitelist. Both are empty in the pack.[1][3]
Entries can be an advancement ID (for example "minecraft:adventure/adventuring_time"), a mod ID with no colon (for example "minecraft"), or an advancement category ending in a slash (for example "minecraft:story/").[3]
Where the plaque appears
- client.visual_options.on_top decides whether plaques show at the top of the screen. It is true in the pack, and setting it to false puts them at the bottom.[1][3]
- client.visual_options.distance is the distance from the top or bottom of the screen in pixels. The pack uses 16, and the allowed range is 8 to 256.[3]
- client.visual_options.horizontal_offset shifts the plaque sideways from the center in pixels. The pack uses 0, and the range is -256 to 256.[3]
- client.visual_options.hide_waila hides Waila, HWYLA or Jade popups while a plaque is showing. It is false in the pack.[3]
Timing
Each type has a duration plus a shiny effect that fades in and out. The duration setting does not include the fade times. client.duration_options.task_duration, client.duration_options.goal_duration and client.duration_options.challenge_duration are all 7 in the pack, which matches the mod default. The allowed range is 2.0 to 10.0.[3]
The fade settings accept values from 0.1 to 3.0. The pack keeps the mod defaults: challenges fade in over 1.25 (client.duration_options.challenge_effect_fadein), while goals and tasks fade in over 0.5 (client.duration_options.goal_effect_fadein, client.duration_options.task_effect_fadein). All three types fade out over 1.5 (client.duration_options.challenge_effect_fadeout, client.duration_options.goal_effect_fadeout, client.duration_options.task_effect_fadeout).[1][3]
Sound
Each type has its own volume: client.functionality_options.task_volume, client.functionality_options.goal_volume and client.functionality_options.challenge_volume. All are 1 in the pack, the range is 0.0 to 1.0, and 0 mutes that type.[3]
The mod's project page says the Forge version adds custom sounds, so it needs to be installed on both client and server. If those sounds are disabled in config, it can run on the client alone.[1]
Colors and looks
client.visual_options.title_color colors the plaque title (like "Advancement made!") and is "#FFFFFFFF" in the pack. client.visual_options.name_color colors the advancement name and is "#FFFFD857". Both take an 8-digit #AARRGGBB hex code, and if the Prism library is installed, any Prism color definition works too.[3]
The plaque artwork itself can be changed with resource packs. The project page points to Embellished Stone (Advancement Plaques) as an example, and says the mod is fully compatible with Toast Control.[1]
Which Advancement Plaques config options matter?
5 parts
Everything for this mod lives in config/advancementplaques.toml, and every option sits under the client section. Every option in this pack that lists a mod default is set to exactly that default, so the pack hasn't changed any of those values.[3]
Which plaques show up
- client.visual_options.tasks, client.visual_options.goals and client.visual_options.challenges are all true here. That means plaques appear for normal, medium-difficulty and high-difficulty advancements alike.[3]
- client.visual_options.on_top is true, so plaques show at the top of the screen.[3]
- client.visual_options.hide_waila is false, so Waila, HWYLA or Jade popups are not hidden while a plaque is showing. Flip it to true if they overlap and annoy you.[3]
Position
client.visual_options.distance is 16 pixels from the top or bottom of the screen (allowed range 8 to 256). client.visual_options.horizontal_offset is 0, which keeps the plaque centered (allowed range -256 to 256). Both match the mod defaults.[3]
How long plaques stay
client.duration_options.task_duration, client.duration_options.goal_duration and client.duration_options.challenge_duration are all 7, within an allowed range of 2.0 to 10.0. The fade in and fade out times of the shiny effect are not included in that number.[3]
- Fade in: client.duration_options.task_effect_fadein and client.duration_options.goal_effect_fadein are 0.5, while client.duration_options.challenge_effect_fadein is 1.25.[3]
- Fade out: client.duration_options.task_effect_fadeout, client.duration_options.goal_effect_fadeout and client.duration_options.challenge_effect_fadeout are all 1.5.[3]
- Every one of these fade options accepts values from 0.1 to 3.0.[3]
Sounds
client.functionality_options.task_volume, client.functionality_options.goal_volume and client.functionality_options.challenge_volume are all at 1, the maximum of their 0.0 to 1.0 range.[3]
Filtering and colors
client.functionality_options.whitelist and client.functionality_options.blacklist are both empty, so plaques display for every advancement. Entries can be an advancement ID, a mod ID without the colon, or an advancement category ending in a slash. If an advancement matches both lists, the blacklist wins.[3]
client.visual_options.name_color is set to #FFFFD857 and client.visual_options.title_color is set to #FFFFFFFF. Both take an 8-digit #AARRGGBB hex code.[3]
