What is Waystones?
1 part
Waystones lets you teleport from waystone to waystone. Once you have activated a waystone, you can return to it later, either by using a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from one existing waystone to another.[1]
The mod adds craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls. It also adds Global Waystones for community hubs or for sharing with friends, an optional teleport button in your inventory, and a waystone structure in villages. The mod page pitches it as an alternative to /warp and /home commands, for Survival, Adventure Maps or multiplayer servers.[1]
This pack ships Waystones 21.1.42.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book covers Waystones in the quest "Fast Travel" quest, which lives in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips". That is chapter 2 of 31 in the book, and it has 30 quests.[3]
The quest is aimed at getting around a skyblock world. It asks if you need to teleport to different islands, or even to completely different dimensions, and tells you to craft a Waystone. It also points out that, on top of being a crafting component, a Warp Stone lets you remotely teleport to any of your waystones while you explore.[3]
How do you get started with Waystones?
4 parts
Waystones lets you teleport back to waystones you have activated. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to another one.[1]
In the pack's quest book, this mod shows up in the "Fast Travel" quest quest, in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter (chapter 2 of 31). The quest points you at the Warp Stone and tells you to craft a Waystone.[3]
Make a Warp Stone first
The Warp Stone comes first because the quest calls it a crafting component, and the Waystone recipe below uses it. It also lets you teleport remotely to any of your waystones while you explore. The pack changed this recipe, so the one below is the pack's version, not the mod default.[3][4]

Recipe id: waystones:warp_stone
Using a Warp Stone is a charge-up: you hold right-click for general.warpStoneUseTime ticks, which is set to 32 here. Durability loss on warp stones is on in this pack (teleports.enableDurability), so a Warp Stone wears down as you use it.[5]
Craft a Waystone
Next, make a Waystone. The quest tells you to craft one when you want to teleport between islands or dimensions. This recipe is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack. It also uses a Warp Stone, so you need the first step done.[3][4]

There are also variants such as the Mossy Waystone and the Sandy Waystone, which are crafted with a Warp Stone too.[4]
Add Warp Scrolls
Once you have a waystone, the Warp Scroll is another way to teleport. A scroll that is not bound to a waystone tells you so in chat. Using one is a charge-up while you hold right-click, set by general.scrollUseTime at 32 ticks. The pack changed this recipe, and one craft makes 3 scrolls.[4][5][6]

What the pack changed in the settings
- Experience costs are switched off (teleports.enableCosts is false), so you do not pay XP to teleport.[5]
- Teleport cooldowns are switched off too (teleports.enableCooldowns is false).[5]
- Nearby pets do not travel with you (teleports.transportPets is DISABLED), but leashed mobs do (teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED).[5]
- Only the owner can edit a waystone they placed, because general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER.[5]
How does Waystones work?
7 parts
Waystones is a teleport network. You activate a waystone once, and from then on you can return to it. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from an existing waystone. When it works, you get the message "Activated Waystone" followed by the waystone's name.[1][6]
Who can see and edit a waystone
In this pack, general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION. A new or found waystone only shows up in your list once you have activated it. The other allowed values are GLOBAL and TEAM. The waystone settings screen also lets you make a waystone visible to everyone, or only to sharestones of one specific colour.[5][6]
Editing is locked down. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, which means only the owner of a waystone can edit it. Other players get the message "Only the owner may edit this waystone." general.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false, so global waystones are not open for everyone to manage.[5][6]
The destination screen
Using a waystone opens a "Select your destination" screen. You can sort the list by distance, by name, or manually. In manual mode you drag entries to reorder them, double-click to send one to the top, and shift-double-click to send one to the bottom. You can also hide waystones, mark favourites, and sort them into groups with their own label colour and icon.[6]
Deleting an entry takes a deliberate click: you hold shift and click. Deleting a global waystone removes it for everyone.[6]
Scrolls, Warp Stones and Warp Plates
Scrolls and the Warp Stone are charged by holding right-click. general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks in this pack. If you stop holding the item, you get the message "You stopped holding the item to teleport." If you move too far from the waystone while using it, you also get a failure message.[5][6]
Warp Stones lose durability when used, because teleports.enableDurability is true.[5]
A Warp Plate works differently. You stand on it for general.warpPlateUseTime, which is 15 ticks here. After that, an entity has to be off the target plate for general.warpPlateCooldownTime, which is 20 ticks, before it can teleport from that same plate again.[5]
A Warp Plate has to be bound to another Warp Plate through the shard inside it. Without a binding it says "This warp plate is not bound to another warp plate yet." If the shard loses its attunement, the plate tells you that too. A Warp Portal closes if its target is destroyed, and it can't open where there is no space.[6]
Warp Dust is what the Dormant Shard recipe below uses.
This is the in-pack Dormant Shard recipe.
Scroll recipes in the pack
The pack changed the recipes for the Blank Scroll, Return Scroll and Warp Scroll, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. The recipes below are the ones that apply here.[4]

Waystone variants such as the Black Waystone, Deepslate Waystone and Ender Waystone each have their own recipe in the pack. The Mossy Waystone has more than one, including two that start from a plain Waystone. Here is the Black Waystone, followed by the Mossy Waystone upgrades.[4]

Costs, cooldowns and modifiers
In this pack teleports.enableCosts and teleports.enableCooldowns are both false. According to their option descriptions, these switches turn off all XP costs and all cooldowns. The teleports.warpRequirements list is still filled in, in case you or the pack turn costs back on. It scales the cost by distance within a dimension, adds a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, caps the cost at 27, and makes trips from warp plates, to global waystones and to fleeting memorials free. It also adds a cooldown of 300 when you use the inventory button.[5]
teleports.enableModifiers is true, so warp modifier items can apply status effects on teleports. A waystone's settings screen has a Manage Modifiers button and shows how many modifiers are active.[5][6]
Taking mobs along
- Leashed mobs teleport with you, because teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED.[5]
- Pets stay behind, because teleports.transportPets is DISABLED.[5]
- The wither is on teleports.entityDenyList, so it can't be teleported as a pet, a leashed mob, or on a warp plate.[5]
Finding waystones in the world
Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks, set by worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones. They can appear in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Their style depends on the biome, and they spawn in some villages (REGULAR).[5]
The pack's map integrations for BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap are all enabled. On BlueMap, waystones and sharestones are marked, but undiscovered waystones are not.[5]
How do you progress through Waystones?
4 parts
Waystones progression in this pack is mostly about one item: the Warp Stone. The pack's quest book covers it with "Fast Travel" quest, which sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter (chapter 2 of 31, 30 quests). The quest calls the Warp Stone a crafting component, and says it lets you teleport remotely to any of your waystones while exploring.[3]
Step 1: the Warp Stone
The pack changed the Warp Stone recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. This is the in-pack version.[4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: waystones:warp_stone
Step 2: Waystones and their variants
The plain Waystone uses the mod's own recipe, with the Warp Stone as a key component. The quest text even tells you to craft a Waystone to get going.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | Empty slot | |
Recipe id: waystones:waystone
The themed variants below all have their own mod recipes, and each one also needs a Warp Stone.[4]
- Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone and Black Waystone[4]
- Muddy Waystone and Prismarine Waystone[4]
- Nether Waystone, Ender Waystone and Purpur Waystone[4]
- Mossy Waystone has its own recipe. You can also make it from an existing Waystone, using either moss blocks or vines.[4]
Step 3: Portstones and Sharestones
Portstones and Sharestones come in dye colours, such as Red Portstone and Blue Sharestone. Every one is a mod recipe, and the dye colour in the recipe sets the colour of the result. The white Portstone is just called Portstone. The recipe list has no white Sharestone. Here is the Red Portstone as an example.[4]

Scrolls and extras
The pack changed several scroll-related recipes: Warp Scroll, Return Scroll, Blank Scroll and the Epitaph. Portal Scroll and Twinbound Feather still use the mod's own recipes.[4]

There is also a separate chain: Warp Dust leads to a Dormant Shard, which leads to the Warp Plate. All three use the mod's own recipes.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Waystones?
1 part
Waystones shows up in one quest in the pack's quest book: "Fast Travel" quest. It sits in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book and holds 30 quests.[3]
Fast Travel
The quest asks you to craft a Waystone. It lists two item tasks, and the first one is the Warp Stone.[3]
The quest text sells it as a way to reach other islands, or even completely different dimensions. It also tells you that the Warp Stone is a crafting component, and that it lets you remotely teleport to any of your waystones while you explore.[3]
The chapter's own intro quest, "Tips & Tricks!" quest, describes the chapter as plenty of useful items and tips for your playthrough. Fast Travel is one of those tips. The quest data I was given doesn't show it requiring any other quest first.[3]
Which Waystones config options matter?
6 parts
Everything here lives in one file, config/waystones-common.toml. Below is how this pack sets the options you are most likely to care about. The sources I have don't list the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these values the pack changed.[5]
Costs, cooldowns and durability
- teleports.enableCosts is false and teleports.enableCooldowns is false. The file's own notes say false disables all XP costs and all cooldowns, with teleports.warpRequirements offering finer control.[5]
- teleports.enableDurability is true, so warp stones lose durability. teleports.enableModifiers is also true, so warp modifier items can apply status effects on teleports.[5]
- The pack still lists warp requirements: an XP cost scaled by distance (with 0.01) for same-dimension trips, a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, free trips from warp plates, to global waystones and to fleeting memorials, a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 27, plus a cooldown value of 300 for the inventory button. Since costs and cooldowns are switched off above, treat these as the rule set that applies if they are turned on.[5]
Use times
- general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks, which is the charge-up while you hold right-click.[5]
- general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks standing on the plate, and general.warpPlateCooldownTime is 20 ticks before an entity can teleport from the same plate again.[5]
Sharing and ownership
- general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so new waystones are not global by default. general.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false.[5]
- general.restrictedWaystones is ["PLAYER"], which only lets the owner edit a player-placed waystone.[5]
Pets and leashed mobs
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so nearby pets do not teleport with you. teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you.[5]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither.[5]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, an approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. Wild waystones are allowed in the Overworld, the Nether and the End through worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList.[5]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones appear in some villages. worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so the look depends on the biome.[5]
- worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, but worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty. The name template in worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[5]
Map integrations and the inventory button
- BlueMap: blueMap.enabled is true. Waystones and sharestones get markers, but blueMap.includeUndiscoveredWaystones is false, so undiscovered ones don't.[5]
- compatibility.dynmap and compatibility.journeyMap are both true. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is true too, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the mod 'JourneyMap Integration' is not installed.[5]
- inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string in this pack. The file's notes list NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a specific waystone name as the settings. The button position is X 58 and Y 60 in the inventory, through inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX and inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY.[5]
What changed in Waystones between versions?
5 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Waystones 21.1.42. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for versions 21.1.36, 21.1.38, 21.1.40, 21.1.41 and 21.1.42.[2][7][8][9][10][11]
21.1.42 (the version in this pack)
- Added a button to hide waystones that can't be deleted.[11]
- Fixed a custom reach distance being ignored in distance validity checks.[11]
- Fixed warp modifiers not being applied to waystones.[11]
- Fixed a crash when rendering warp requirements that have no renderer.[11]
21.1.41
- Warp Plates got a Redstone Torch modifier, which stops them from teleporting.[10]
- Added the allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones option as a simpler alternative to allowedVisibilities, which is now deprecated.[10]
- Added world gen tags for new waystone types, empty by default.[10]
- Fixed several default visibility problems: invalid visibilities being configurable, a typo in the option, the setting not always being respected, and global waystones not appearing immediately.[10]
- Fixed a crash with chunk multi-threading mods.[10]
- Fixed an integer overflow in the xp cost that wrongly marked waystones as unaffordable when a player had too many levels.[10]
21.1.40
- Fixed a crash with the Dynmap integration if it runs before the server instance is captured.[9]
- Fixed waystones being wiped when an event handler throws during loading. That one is worth knowing about if you ever ran into missing waystones.[9]
- Fixed an integer overflow in distance comparison that gave wrong results and crashes for large distances.[9]
21.1.38
- Added the enableDurability option, default true, so you can turn off durability loss on warp stones.[8]
- Backported a Vanilla bugfix for entity teleportation to make non-player and mounted teleports more stable. It applies automatically to Waystone-initiated teleports, and the enableVanillaBugfix option (default false) extends it to other entity teleports, like /tp or other mods.[8]
- Fixed an occasional crash from corrupt entity tracking.[8]
- Fixed passengers being able to trigger warp plate teleports independently of their mount.[8]
21.1.36
- Added the Red Nether Bricks Waystone, Purpur Waystone, Primsarine Waystone and Mud Bricks Waystone.[7]
- Added the source_is_portal_scroll, target_is_warp_portal, target_is_fleeting_memorial and target_is_player conditions for warp requirements.[7]
- Added support for dimension-specific group icon overrides, used instead of the generic Dimension icon when available.[7]
- Fixed many interface problems: screens not filling space at smaller GUI scales, the sort toggle choice not being saved, the scrollbar not being draggable, drag to rearrange not working on the Manage Waystones and Manage Groups screens, and the GUI closing when returning from Personal Waystone Settings.[7]
- Fixed the source_is_*_sharestone condition checking the target instead of the source.[7]
- Improved Sable compatibility: nearest-waystone lookups now use player-aware distance checks, and warp plates use level-aware distance and bounds checks.[7]
- Added new API events for other mods, including BuildWaystoneSelectionMenuEvent, WaystoneTeleportEvent.Prepare, WaystoneTeleportEvent.Complete and WaystoneTeleportEntityEvent.[7]
