What is PackagedAuto?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
PackagedAuto is an addon for Applied Energistics 2 that uses "packages" of items to let you autocraft recipes with more than 9 items. Fluid crafting is supported too. This pack ships PackagedAuto version 4.0.8.21 for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
It's for you if you already run an ME Network and want to automate big or awkward recipes. The mod can run without Applied Energistics 2, but installing it alongside AE2 is recommended, and most of the machines are designed with ME Network integration in mind.[1][3]
How it works
You start by encoding Recipe Pattern Holders with a Package Recipe Encoder. A single holder can store up to 20 encoded recipes, and the encoder previews which Recipe Packages will be made.[3][4]
Next, put an encoded holder in a Packager. It tells the network which Recipe Packages it can make, and it turns the items you feed it into those packages. Then put a matching holder in an Unpackager, which unpackages a full set of packages into adjacent inventories or into package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type.[1][3][5][6]
When the Packager and Unpackager are connected to an ME Network, they each need a channel. They draw power from the network and offer packaging and unpackaging as autocrafting. The Packager also ejects the finished packages into the network.[5][6]
What else is in the mod
- Recipe types: Crafting (uses the Package Crafter), Processing, Ordered Processing and Positioned Processing, selectable in the encoder.[7][8][9][10][11]
- ME Packaging Provider: combines the Packager and Unpackager in one machine. It must be on an ME Network and can also provide direct recipes as one large processing recipe.[12]
- Packager Extension: copies a nearby Packager within a 3x3x3 area, so you need fewer holders when parallelizing.[13]
- Fluid Package Filler: makes Volume Packages filled with fluids. It needs power and a redstone signal.[14][15]
- Packaging Settings Cloner: copies and pastes settings between supported machines.[16]
Unverified Where PackagedAuto fits in this pack's progression is unverified. No quests in this pack involve the mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with PackagedAuto?
5 parts
PackagedAuto turns crafting jobs into packages of items. The basic loop is simple: you encode recipes into holders, a Packager uses those holders to make Recipe Packages, and an Unpackager unpacks them. Here is what to make first, in order.[17][18][19]
Step 1: Packaging Component
Start with the Packaging Component. It is an ingredient in the recipes for the encoder, the recipe holder and the ME Packaging Component, so you will make a lot of these. The pack changed this recipe, so go by the one below.[20]

Step 2: Package Recipe Encoder
Next, make the Package Recipe Encoder. You pick a recipe type, set the inputs and outputs, put holders inside and press the save button to encode. The pack changed this recipe too.[20][21]

Step 3: Package Recipe Holders
The Package Recipe Holder stores the recipe data your machines read. One craft with the pack's recipe gives you 2 holders. A single holder can store up to 20 recipes, and the pack keeps encoder.pattern_slots at 20, the same as the mod default.[20][21][22][23]

Step 4: ME Packaging Component, Packager and Unpackager
The machines in this pack are built around the ME Packaging Component. Its recipe asks for AE2 parts on top of a Packaging Component, so you need some AE2 progress first.[20]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: packagedauto:me_package_component
With that, make the Packager and the Unpackager. Put an encoded holder in the Packager and it can make Recipe Packages for those recipes, ejecting them into adjacent inventories. The Unpackager takes sets of packages and unpacks them into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines. Both need power.[18][19]

On power, the pack sets the Packager to hold 5,000 FE and use up to 100 FE/t, and the Unpackager to hold 5,000 FE. Both match the mod defaults.[23]
What to add next
For recipes you would normally craft in a crafting table, use the Package Crafter with the Crafting recipe type. It ejects the finished items into adjacent inventories and needs power.[24]

Once you have several machines, the Packaging Settings Cloner can copy and paste settings between machines of the same type, which saves a lot of clicking.[25]

How does PackagedAuto work?
8 parts
PackagedAuto uses packages of items to ease certain crafting tasks. You start by encoding Package Recipe Holder items with the Package Recipe Encoder. Those holders tell Packager machines which Recipe Packages they can make, and the packages are then unpackaged in an Unpackager.[17][21]
Encoding recipes
In the Package Recipe Encoder, pick a recipe type, set the inputs and outputs with their counts (what you can set depends on the type), put holders inside and press save. The load button reads recipes back from an encoded holder. One holder can store up to 20 recipes, chosen with the recipe slots at the top of the GUI, and a preview on the right shows which Recipe Packages will be made.[21]
The number of recipe slots is set by encoder.pattern_slots, which is 20 in this pack (allowed range 1 to 20). The config warns that changing it while the world is running may crash clients. The list in encoder.disabled_recipe_types is empty here, so no recipe type is disabled.[23]
With JEI you can show all recipes for the current type and use the Move Items button to encode quickly. With EMI, the Fill Recipe button does the same, and the recipe tree lets you choose which item to use for ingredients that accept several.[21]
Recipe types
- Processing: the most basic processing type. Inputs and outputs are sorted and stacked when encoded.[26]
- Ordered Processing: keeps ingredient order. When unpackaged, items go into adjacent inventories in the encoded order, and only into empty slots.[27]
- Positioned Processing: uses a Positioned Package Distributor to spread items across separate inventories, in the encoded order.[28]
- Crafting: a crafting recipe type for recipes craftable in a crafting table, done by the Package Crafter. Crafted items are ejected into adjacent inventories.[24]
Packager and extension
The Packager needs power. Put an encoded holder inside and it can make Recipe Packages for those recipes, ejecting them into adjacent inventories. You can pull inputs out from the top side.[18]
It has three modes. Require Exact makes the first package that exactly matches the inventory contents. Require Disjoint checks that packages have no overlap and makes the one the contents allow, falling back to Require Exact. First Match makes the first package the contents allow.[18][29]
The Packager Extension copies a nearby Packager so you need fewer holders when running packaging in parallel. Place it anywhere within a 3x3x3 area around a Packager. If several Packagers are in range, it copies the north-west-bottommost one it finds. It also needs power, and you can extract inputs from its top side.[29]
In this pack the Packager's power settings match the mod defaults: packager.energy_capacity holds 5,000 FE, packager.energy_req is 500 FE per operation, packager.energy_usage caps draw at 100 FE/t, and packager.refresh_interval is 4 ticks. The Packager Extension uses the same four values under its own keys, starting with packager_extension.energy_capacity.[23]

The pack changed this recipe.
Unpackager
The Unpackager needs power. Packages you put in are inserted into trackers, and once a set is complete it is unpackaged into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type. You can change the number of trackers. For processing recipes, blocking mode stops it unpackaging into occupied inventories. Inputs can be extracted from the top side.[19]
Its power use differs from the Packager: unpackager.energy_usage is 50 FE per operation in this pack (the mod default), and unpackager.energy_capacity holds 5,000 FE.[23]

A Recipe Package can also be unpackaged manually. JEI can show a package's contents and what the set is meant to create.[30]
Crafting and distribution at a distance
The Package Crafting Machine Proxy lets Unpackagers send items to specialized package crafting machines from a distance. Bind a Proxy Marker to the target machine, then put the marker into the proxy. Its range is set by crafting_proxy.range, which is 8 in this pack.[23][31]
For Positioned Processing, bind Distributor Marker items to inventories and put them into the distributor slots that match the encoded input slots. The Positioned Package Distributor respects the blocking mode of the origin Unpackager. If a target inventory becomes invalid, it ejects all pending items on top of itself, or into the ME network if connected. Its range (distributor.range) is 16 in this pack.[23][28]
The Package Crafter is configured like the Packager in this pack: crafter.energy_req is 500 FE per operation and crafter.energy_usage is 100 FE/t.[23]
Fluid packages
Volume Packages hold bulk materials such as fluids and can be inserted or unpackaged into matching containers. The Fluid Package Filler makes the fluid ones and needs power. Place it next to a fluid container, put a template fluid container inside, and set how much fluid the package should hold. Then apply a redstone signal to create the package, which is ejected into adjacent inventories.[32][33]
Its power settings in this pack are the mod defaults: 5,000 FE capacity, 500 FE per operation, 100 FE/t maximum and a 4 tick refresh, set under the fluid_package_filler keys in the server config.[23]
ME network integration
Much of the mod is built around AE2. A Packager or Unpackager connected to an ME network requires a channel. It extracts power from the network and provides its packaging or unpackaging as autocrafting, and the Packager ejects finished packages into the network. For an Unpackager, put an encoded holder inside so it can provide unpackaging for those recipes. The Packager Extension and Package Crafter can also connect and draw power, and the Crafter ejects its results into the network.[17][18][19][24][29]
Drawing power from ME is controlled by options like packager.draw_me_energy, which is true in this pack. The Crafter, Packager Extension and Unpackager have matching options, also true here.[23]
Machines that provide autocrafting to ME networks can treat Volume Package contents as autocrafting inputs and outputs, and can create them directly.[33]
The ME Packaging Provider combines the Packager and Unpackager and must be on an ME network with a channel. Put an encoded holder inside and it provides Direct, Packaging and/or Unpackaging recipes, depending on its settings. Direct presents the recipe as one large processing recipe and skips the packaging and unpackaging steps.[34]
Copying settings
The Packaging Settings Cloner copies and pastes settings between machines of the same type. Use the copy action on a supported machine, then the paste action on another, and use the clear action on air or an unsupported block to wipe it. For the Packager, Unpackager and ME Packaging Provider it can also paste the current recipes, but only if the target has no recipes and you carry a Package Recipe Holder.[18][19][25][34]
It can also copy the target of a proxy (needs an empty Proxy Marker in your inventory) or a distributor (needs enough empty Distributor Markers).[28][31]
How do you progress through PackagedAuto?
5 parts
PackagedAuto uses packages of items to ease certain crafting tasks. You start at the Package Recipe Encoder, then a Packager makes packages and an Unpackager unpacks them. The pack changed most of the crafting in this mod, so the order below follows what the pack asks for.[17][20]
First: The Packaging Component
Nearly everything starts with the Packaging Component. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[20]

Next: Encoding and settings tools
The Package Recipe Encoder writes recipes into Package Recipe Holder items. One holder can store up to 20 recipes. The pack's holder recipe gives you 2 holders per craft.[20][21]

To copy an encoded holder, combine it with empty holders in a crafting grid.[22]
The Packaging Settings Cloner copies and pastes settings between certain packaging machines. The Fluid Package Filler makes Volume Packages filled with fluids, needs power, and is triggered by a redstone signal. Both of their pack recipes use the plain Packaging Component, so you don't need the ME version for them.[20][25][32]

Then: The ME Packaging Component
This is the big gate in the pack. The Packager, Unpackager, Package Crafter and Packager Extension all need the ME Packaging Component, and AE2 parts go into making that, so get into AE2 first. The recipe blocks below show the exact crafting.[20]

The Packager takes an encoded holder and makes packages for those recipes. It needs power, and it can also connect to an ME Network, where it needs a channel. The Unpackager unpacks sets of packages into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type. The Package Crafter handles the Crafting recipe type, which covers recipes craftable in a crafting table.[18][19][24]
The Packager Extension copies a Packager placed within a 3x3x3 area around it. That lets you parallelize packaging with fewer holders.[29]

Reaching machines at a distance
Use the Package Crafting Machine Proxy when an Unpackager needs to reach a specialized package crafting machine from a distance. It works with a bound Proxy Marker. The Positioned Package Distributor serves the Positioned Processing recipe type, where bound Distributor Marker items point at the inventories that receive the items.[28][31]
Both machines use the plain Packaging Component in their pack recipes. The Proxy Marker is the only recipe here still using the mod's own version. The pack changed the Distributor Marker recipe, and it makes 4 markers per craft.[20]

Finally: The ME Packaging Provider
The ME Packaging Provider combines the Packager and the Unpackager in one block. It must be on an ME Network and needs a channel. Depending on its settings it provides Direct, Packaging and/or Unpackaging recipes. The pack's recipe uses a Packager and an Unpackager, so it comes after the ME Packaging Component stage.[20][34]

How does PackagedAuto work with other mods?
3 parts
PackagedAuto is an addon to Applied Energistics 2, and that is the mod it connects with most in this pack. It can run without AE2, but installing it alongside AE2 is the recommended setup. The pack's recipes reflect this: the ME machines are built from AE2 parts.[1][20]
How the machines work with an ME network
The in-game guide says much of the mod is designed with AE2 integration in mind. Here is what each machine does once it is connected to an ME network.[17]
- Packager: it needs a channel. It extracts power from the network, provides packaging as autocrafting, and ejects the finished Recipe Packages into the network.[18]
- Unpackager: it needs a channel. It extracts power from the network and provides unpackaging as autocrafting. Put an encoded Package Recipe Holder inside so it offers autocrafting for those recipes.[19]
- Packager Extension: it can be connected to an ME network too. It extracts power, provides packaging as autocrafting, and ejects created packages into the network.[29]
- ME Packaging Provider: it combines the Packager and the Unpackager, and it must be connected to an ME network and needs a channel. Its settings are Direct (provide package recipes as one large processing recipe, skipping the packaging and unpackaging steps), Packaging and Unpackaging.[34]
Recipes changed by the pack
Two PackagedAuto recipes are changed by the pack, and both pull in AE2 items.[20]
First, the ME Packaging Component is crafted from a regular Packaging Component plus AE2 parts and some iron.[20]

Second, the ME Packaging Provider is built around a Packager and an Unpackager, combined with AE2 components.[20]

There is also a link to Patchouli. A Packaging Component and a Book make a Guide Book. This is the mod's own recipe, not a pack change.[20]
Which PackagedAuto config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
All of PackagedAuto's settings live in one file, config/packagedauto-server.toml. Every value in this pack that lists a mod default matches that default, so the pack hasn't changed any of the numbers below.[36]
Energy settings
Each machine has energy options for how much FE it can hold, how much FE one operation costs in total, and the maximum FE per tick it can use. The Package Crafter, Packager, Packager Extension and Fluid Package Filler all share the same values in this pack.[36]
- Capacity is 5,000 FE, set by crafter.energy_capacity, packager.energy_capacity, packager_extension.energy_capacity and fluid_package_filler.energy_capacity.[36]
- Energy per operation is 500 FE, set by crafter.energy_req, packager.energy_req, packager_extension.energy_req and fluid_package_filler.energy_req.[36]
- Maximum draw is 100 FE/t, set by crafter.energy_usage, packager.energy_usage, packager_extension.energy_usage and fluid_package_filler.energy_usage.[36]
- The Unpackager is cheaper. It holds 5,000 FE via unpackager.energy_capacity, and unpackager.energy_usage is 50, the same as the mod default.[36]
Drawing power from your ME network
The Package Crafter, Packager, Packager Extension and Unpackager can all pull energy from an ME system, and this pack has that turned on for each of them: crafter.draw_me_energy, packager.draw_me_energy, packager_extension.draw_me_energy and unpackager.draw_me_energy are all true.[36]
Speed and range
- Every machine waits 4 ticks between refreshes, which is the mod default. See crafter.refresh_interval and packager.refresh_interval for examples. The allowed range is 1 to 40.[36]
- crafting_proxy.range is 8 for the Package Crafting Machine Proxy, the mod default.[36]
- distributor.range is 16 for the Positioned Package Distributor, also the mod default.[36]
Package Recipe Encoder
encoder.pattern_slots is 20, which is both the mod default and the top of its allowed range (1 to 20). encoder.disabled_recipe_types is an empty list, so the pack disables no recipe types in the encoder.[36]
What changed in PackagedAuto between versions?
1 part
There isn't much history to cover for this mod in this pack. FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships PackagedAuto 4.0.8.21 (the 1.21.1 build), and the mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[37]
PackagedAuto 4.0.8.21
The one change recorded for the version you have in 1.10.0 is that it uses better validity checks in core recipe handling. The changelog gives no further detail, so I can't say exactly which recipe situations it affects.[38]
Unverified Changes in earlier PackagedAuto versions used by older Aero releases, and any pack-side changes to the mod's recipes or config, could not be confirmed from the available sources.
