What is Mystian Apiary?
2 parts
Mystian Apiary is a multiblock apiary expansion for Productive Bees. Instead of letting bees fly around, it runs them in place inside a compact 3x3x3 structure, so no bees ever leave it. This pack includes version 1.9 of the mod.[1][2][3]
How the structure works
A Honeycomb Block sits in the center, wrapped in a cube of logs. On its north, south, east and west sides you place one each of the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller, in any arrangement. Every other spot in the cube can be any log, normal or stripped.[3]
The Bee Box holds filled Productive Bees cages, 27 slots to start and up to 108 at higher tiers. The Flower Box holds the flowers and blocks your bees need, and the Storage collects everything they make. If the Storage fills up, the bees simply pause until there is room, so nothing is lost.[4][5]
Upgrades and automation
The Controller runs the apiary and has five slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge. Most take the usual Productive Bees upgrades, and the Centrifuge upgrade is the apiary's own. It runs combs through their centrifuge recipes automatically, so you collect finished products instead of raw combs.[4][6]
Hoppers, pipes and similar blocks can feed the Bee and Flower boxes and empty the Storage, so the whole apiary can run on its own.[5]
How do you get started with Mystian Apiary?
4 parts
The Mystian Apiary is a 3x3x3 multiblock that runs your Productive Bees in place, so no bees ever leave it. Getting started means making four modules, building the cube around a Honeycomb Block, and dropping in your first bees.[3][8]
Craft the four modules
You need exactly one each of the Apiary Bee Box, Apiary Flower Box, Apiary Storage and Apiary Controller. The Bee Box holds your bees, the Flower Box holds what they need to work, the Storage collects everything they make, and the Controller runs the whole apiary.[3][4][9]

The Controller: it holds the apiary upgrades.
Build the structure
- Put a Honeycomb Block in the center.[3]
- Place the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller on the north, south, east and west sides of it, one each, in any arrangement.[3]
- Fill every other spot in the cube with logs. Normal or stripped both work.[3]
- Open the Controller. Its screen tells you whether the structure is in one piece, with messages like "All modules present!" or "Missing modules!".[4][9]
Want more room for output? The log directly above the Honeycomb Block can be swapped for a second Storage box of any tier. It is entirely optional, and the pack leaves apiary.allowSecondOutput switched on.[3][11]
Get it running
- Click a slot in the Bee Box with a filled Productive Bees cage. Each cage is one bee, and the Bee Box holds 27 to start.[4][5]
- Put the flowers or blocks your bees want into the Flower Box. Flowers are never used up, so one of each is enough, and a bee with no valid flower just waits until you add one.[4][5]
- Watch the green bar on each bee's slot. It shows how far along that bee's batch is.[5]
- Collect the results from the Storage by hand, or with hoppers and pipes. If it fills up, the bees pause until there is room, so nothing is lost.[4][5]
Improve it
Speed upgrades go into the Controller and make your bees work faster, while Productivity upgrades make them produce more per batch. The pack sets apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier to 2, which halves the base process time.[5][6][11]
The Bee, Flower and Storage boxes each come in four tiers, and every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. You can craft the higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already down. Upgrades go one tier at a time and keep everything inside. The pack changed the recipes for the box upgrade items, such as Bee Box Upgrade (Tier 1), so check the in-pack recipe below.[4][10]

Once you have your first bees running, breed for a higher Productivity gene. Inside the apiary it is the gene that counts, and it adds on top of the Productivity upgrade.[12]
How does Mystian Apiary work?
8 parts
The Mystian Apiary is a 3x3x3 multiblock that runs your Productive Bees right in place, so no bee ever leaves it. Once it is built, everything works through four boxes and a handful of upgrades, and this section walks through how they fit together.[3]
The structure
- The center is a Honeycomb Block.[3]
- North, south, east and west of it go one each of the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller, in any arrangement.[3]
- Every other spot in the cube is any log, normal or stripped.[3]
The Controller screen tells you if the build is right. It shows how many bees are working and whether all modules are present, some are missing, or too many were detected.[4][9]
Optional second Storage
The log directly above the Honeycomb Block can be swapped for a second Storage box of any tier. This pack has apiary.allowSecondOutput set to true, so you can use it. Produce fills the main side box first and only spills into the second once the first is full, though a partly filled stack in the second box is always topped up first. Fluids overflow the same way. A log there is still perfectly fine.[3][11]
The boxes
The Bee Box holds your bees, 27 to start and up to 108 at higher tiers. Drop in filled Productive Bees cages, and each slot shows the bee with a green bar for its progress. Click with an empty cage to take a bee back out. Your bees stay safe even if the structure breaks.[4][5]
The Flower Box holds the flowers and blocks your bees need. Flowers are never used up, so one of each is enough. A bee with no valid flower just waits, and starts again the moment you add one. Many bees want a specific block rather than a flower, like an ore bee's ore. Some bees, like lumber and quarry bees, pick a random valid block, so offering several gives you a mix of outputs.[4][5]
Those randomized bees keep the same selected flower for 40 completions before rerolling. That is set by apiary.randomizedRerollIntervalCompletions, and the pack leaves it at the mod default.[11]
The Storage collects everything your bees make. If it fills up, bees pause until there is room, so nothing is lost.[4][5]
Box tiers
The Bee, Flower and Storage boxes each come in four tiers, and every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. You can spot the tier from the trim: plain, then silver, gold, and bright cyan at the top.[4]
Storage also holds more per slot as it climbs, starting at 64 items per slot. Fluid capacity goes 32k, 128k, 512k, then 1 million mB. The Bee and Flower boxes only gain slots.[4]
There are two ways to raise a tier: craft the higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already placed. The upgrade keeps everything inside, but it only goes one tier at a time. The pack changed the crafting recipes of the Bee Box and Flower Box upgrade items, for example Bee Box Upgrade (Tier 1) and Flower Box Upgrade (Tier 1).[4][9][10]

The Controller and its upgrades
The Apiary Controller runs the apiary and holds the upgrades. It has five slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge.[4][6]

- Speed: bees finish batches faster. You can stack up to 4 in the slot.[6]
- Productivity: bees produce more each batch. It comes in four strengths (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega), stacks up to 4, and adds on top of a bee's Productivity gene.[6]
- Block: bees hand you comb blocks instead of loose honeycombs.[6]
- Gene Sampler: every so often it pulls a gene out of a working bee and drops it in the Storage. Add more than one for a better chance.[6]
- Centrifuge: every comb is run through its centrifuge recipe automatically, so you collect finished items and fluids instead of raw combs. Combs with no centrifuge recipe pass straight through unchanged.[6]
Of all the Productive Bees genes, only Productivity counts inside the apiary. A higher Productivity gene means more per batch, so breed for it. Hover over a bee in the Bee Box to read its genes.[12]
Centrifuge tiers
The Centrifuge Upgrade comes in tiers that multiply its output: base 1x, Centrifuge Upgrade (Tier 1) 2x, Centrifuge Upgrade (Tier 2) 4x and Centrifuge Upgrade (Tier 3) 8x. Combs that pass through without a recipe are never multiplied. The pack keeps the mod defaults in apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierBase, apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier1, apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier2 and apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier3.[6][9][11]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: mystianapiary:upgrade_centrifuge_t1
Speed and pack settings
apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier is 2 in this pack, which is also the mod default. That means the apiary takes half the base process time before any Speed upgrades. To smooth out bursts, apiary.maxCompletionsPerTick caps slot completions at 12 per tick, and setting it to 0 disables the cap.[11]
The options apiary.respectBehaviorGene, apiary.respectEnduranceGene and apiary.respectWeatherGene are all false here. So bees do not pause at night or in bad weather, and endurance does not change cycle time. They stay always-on.[11]
Automation
Hoppers, pipes and similar can feed the Bee and Flower boxes and empty the Storage, so the whole apiary can run by itself. If a bee stops, hover over it: the tooltip tells you if it is awaiting empty storage space, missing a valid flower, or resting for day/night or weather.[5][9]
For AE2 setups, the ME Storage Interface takes either Storage position and sends items and fluids straight to a powered ME network. It always has first chance at the output, and physical Storage Boxes catch anything the network rejects. Existing overflow stays in the Storage Box after the network recovers. The pack changed its crafting recipe.[4][9][10]

Sneak-use the interface to cycle its redstone modes: Always Active, Active with Signal, and Active without Signal. It also needs a channel on the ME network to connect.[4][9]
How do you progress through Mystian Apiary?
4 parts
Mystian Apiary has two separate upgrade tracks, and it helps to keep them apart. Box tiers give you more room. Controller upgrades change how your bees work. Both are covered here.[4]
Box tiers
The Bee Box, Flower Box and Storage each come in four tiers. Every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. You can spot a box's tier by its trim: plain, then silver, gold, and bright cyan at the top.[4]
The Bee and Flower boxes only gain slots. Storage also holds more in each slot as it climbs: items start at 64 per slot, and fluid goes 32k, 128k, 512k, then 1 million mB.[4]
The base boxes are Apiary Bee Box, Apiary Flower Box and Apiary Storage. Here is the Bee Box, which is the base for its whole tier chain:[4][10]

There are two ways to raise a tier. You can craft the higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already placed. The upgrade bumps it up a tier and keeps everything inside. Upgrades go one tier at a time.[4]
In this pack the Box Upgrade item recipes were changed. Here is the Bee Box ladder, from Bee Box Upgrade (Tier 1) to Bee Box Upgrade (Tier 3). Each step builds on the previous tier's upgrade.[10]

The Flower Box upgrades (Flower Box Upgrade (Tier 1) to Flower Box Upgrade (Tier 3)) and the Storage upgrades (Storage Box Upgrade (Tier 1) to Storage Box Upgrade (Tier 3)) follow the same chain, one tier at a time, and the pack changed those recipes too. Here is the Flower Box ladder:[4][10]

If you would rather place a finished box, the tiered boxes such as Storage Box (Tier 1), Storage Box (Tier 2) and Storage Box (Tier 3) are made by upgrading the box one tier down. Those are the mod's own recipes, not pack changes.[10]
Controller upgrades
The Apiary Controller has five slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge. You can stack up to 4 Speed upgrades in their slot. Productivity comes in four strengths (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega), also stacks up to 4, and adds on top of a bee's own Productivity gene.[4][6][10]

Centrifuge tiers
The Centrifuge Upgrade runs every comb through its centrifuge recipe automatically, so you collect finished items and fluids instead of raw combs. It comes in four tiers that multiply output: base is 1x, Tier 1 is 2x, Tier 2 is 4x and Tier 3 is 8x. Combs with no centrifuge recipe pass through unchanged and are never multiplied. The guide says these amounts can be changed in the config.[6][10]

Automating with ME
The ME Storage Interface takes either Storage position and sends items and fluids straight to a powered ME network. Only one may be used. It gets the first chance at output, and physical Storage Boxes catch anything the network rejects. This recipe was changed by the pack, so check it here:[4][10]

How does Mystian Apiary work with other mods?
3 parts
Mystian Apiary is built as an expansion for Productive Bees, and most of its connections run through that mod. A second link goes out to ME storage networks. Here is how each one shows up in the pack's recipes.[1][4][10]
Productive Bees upgrades and the Controller
The Apiary Controller is crafted from Productive Bees upgrade items, plus honeycombs and an advanced beehive. This is the mod's own recipe, so the pack hasn't changed it.[10]

The link goes both ways. The Controller has five upgrade slots, and most of them take the usual Productive Bees upgrades. That includes Speed and Productivity, which you can stack up to 4 in their slots. The fifth slot is for the apiary's own Centrifuge upgrade.[6]
Centrifuge upgrades and the Heated Centrifuge
The Centrifuge Upgrade needs a Heated Centrifuge from Productive Bees. Each of the three higher tiers needs another Heated Centrifuge on top of the previous tier, so you'll be making several of them. All four recipes are the mod's own versions.[10]

Combs with no centrifuge recipe pass straight through and are never multiplied. The guide says these amounts can be changed in the config.[6]
ME network output
The ME Storage Interface goes in either Storage position and sends items and fluids straight to a powered ME network. You can only use one per apiary. It gets first chance at the output, and any physical Storage Box catches whatever the network rejects.[4]
The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's version, so check the block below for the exact in-pack crafting. It is built around a Storage Box (Tier 3) and brings in ME network components.[10]

Which Mystian Apiary config options matter?
3 parts
Everything for Mystian Apiary lives in apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier's file, config/mystianapiary-common.toml. Good news: every value in this pack that lists a mod default matches that default, so the pack doesn't change any of them. Here are the ones you're most likely to care about.[11]
Speed and throughput
- apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier is 2 in this pack (the same as the mod default). A value of 1 means no change and 2 halves the base process time. It accepts values from 1.0 to 1024.0.[11]
- apiary.maxCompletionsPerTick is 12 (mod default 12). It's a soft cap on slot completions processed per tick, used to smooth out bursts. Set it to 0 to disable the cap. The range is 0 to 108.[11]
- apiary.randomizedRerollIntervalCompletions is 40 (mod default 40). For randomized bees, it sets how many completions they keep the same selected flower before rerolling. The range is 1 to 6,000.[11]
Centrifuge output multipliers
These multiply centrifuge produce (items and fluids) at each centrifuge upgrade tier. Combs without a centrifuge product are never multiplied. All four are at the mod default, and each accepts values from 1 to 64.[11]
- apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierBase: 1[11]
- apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier1: 2[11]
- apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier2: 4[11]
- apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier3: 8[11]
Gene and output toggles
The three gene options are all set to false in this pack, which the config describes as preserving the current always-on balance. That means bees keep working regardless of the time of day or the weather, and the endurance gene doesn't change cycle time.[11]
- apiary.respectBehaviorGene is false. If enabled, diurnal bees would pause at night and nocturnal bees would pause during the day.[11]
- apiary.respectWeatherGene is false. If enabled, bees without rain or any tolerance would pause in bad weather.[11]
- apiary.respectEnduranceGene is false. If enabled, it approximates the endurance gene as a small cycle-time multiplier: weak is slower, medium and strong are faster.[11]
- apiary.allowSecondOutput is true. This allows an optional second Storage box at the top-center of the multiblock, replacing the log directly above the Honeycomb Block.[11]
- apiary.debugBeeProduce is false. Turn it on only when troubleshooting, since it logs bee produce resolution to the console.[11]
What changed in Mystian Apiary between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Mystian Apiary 1.9. The mod was already in the pack by Aero 1.6.1 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for 1.8 and 1.9, so everything here is already in your game.[2][13][14]
Version 1.9
- New optional Applied Energistics 2 integration. When AE2 is installed, the ME Storage Interface can replace either apiary Storage position and sends produced items and fluids straight into a powered, channel-connected ME network.[13]
- Fixed a crash when clicking bees in the Bee Box with newer JEI versions.[13]
Version 1.8
This was the big fix-up release. The headline change is that the Bee, Flower and Storage box upgrade items used to share one recipe, so without something like Polymorph you could only craft one of them. Each now has its own recipe, built around a flower, a hopper or a barrel respectively.[14]
- The in-game guide now shows recipes for everything the mod adds. They come from what your game actually loaded, so if a pack retunes a recipe you see the pack's version.[14]
- With a second Storage Box, produce now fills the main side box completely before anything goes into the top one. A partly filled stack up top still gets topped off first.[14]
- WannaBees could produce absurd amounts in one cycle, such as one Nether Star turning into millions. Fixed.[14]
- Sculk Bees never worked because the Flower Box refused a Sculk Shrieker. The box now accepts any block a bee can use as a flower.[14]
- In a large Bee Box only the first stretch of bees finished cycles while the rest sat at 100%. Every bee gets its turn now.[14]
- On 1.20.1, shift-clicking a stack bigger than 64 out of the Storage gave you 64 and deleted the rest, and Storage slots showed 64 instead of the real amount. Both fixed.[14]
- On 1.21.1, box tier upgrades were uncraftable and the guide book had no working recipe. Both fixed.[14]
- Performance: big tick time improvements, especially for boxes running a lot of the same bee, and amber flowers are no longer re-checked from scratch over and over, which hurt WannaBee setups.[14]
