What is Lootr?
2 parts
Lootr makes sure nobody misses out on loot. Every container that has a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own inventory when they open it. There's no longer a race to be the first to a structure, and you won't open a loot chest and find someone's left-over trash.[1]
These containers have a distinct appearance compared to vanilla ones. Their colour changes from gold to blue if a player has already opened the container.[1]
Lootr is currently required on both the server and the client. This pack ships Lootr 1.11.38.125 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge.[1][2]
A few things worth knowing
- Lootr only changes the containers. The loot inside is generated the same way vanilla chests generate it.[1]
- If a container from another mod isn't converting, that mod may be filling it with items by hand instead of using a loot table. Lootr can't convert those.[1]
- Removing the mod removes every Lootr-converted container from the world, and the conversion can't be undone.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book mentions Lootr in the "Bounty Board" chapter. It is chapter 11 of 31, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. The book gives the quest no title of its own. a quest in "Bounty Board" is an advancement task that asks you to loot 100 Lootr barrels while exploring.[3]
The chapter's intro quest, "The Bounty Board" quest, says the chapter holds repeatable quests you can complete for extra cash to spend at the shops. The rest of the chapter is mostly structure and boss hunts, such as "Find the Ruined Citadel" quest and "Find a Bastion" quest, plus mob-kill counts like "Kill 20 Creepers" quest. The sources don't name the chapters that come directly before or after it in the book.[3]
How do you get started with Lootr?
3 parts
Lootr changes how loot containers behave, so your first step is simply to go exploring. The mod's project page describes it like this: each container that has a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) creates a separate inventory for each player who opens it.[1]
Your first steps
- Find a structure with loot. Lootr containers have a distinct appearance from vanilla ones. The mod's own names include Loot Chest, Loot Barrel, Loot Shulker and Decorated Loot Pot.[1][4]
- Open a container and take what you need. According to the mod's description, the loot is yours alone, so you won't find someone else's leftovers and there's no race to be first to a structure.[1]
- Check the colour. The project page says a container's colour changes from gold to blue once a player has opened it, so you can tell which ones you've already looted.[1]
- Keep opening them. The mod's advancements start from your first chest, barrel, minecart, shulker box or item frame, and go on to opening 10, 25, 50 and 100 containers.[4]
How the pack sets it up
The pack's config sets conversion.convert_item_frames to true, which controls whether item frames with items generated by structures become Lootr item frames. conversion.convert_mineshafts is also true, which controls whether mineshaft chest minecarts become standard loot chests. For the elytra, conversion.convert_elytras_to_item_frames is true and conversion.convert_elytras_to_chests is false, so the elytra item frame becomes a Lootr item frame with an elytra inside rather than a chest.[5]
Refreshing and decay are not switched on for any specific containers here. refresh.refresh_all and decay.decay_all are false, and the loot table, mod id and dimension lists for both are empty. The config describes blank lists as meaning no chests refresh or decay.[5]
The timers only matter for containers that are set to refresh or decay. refresh.refresh_value is 24,000 ticks and decay.decay_value is 6,000 ticks.[5]
Quest tie-in
The quest book has an untitled quest, a quest in "Bounty Board", that asks you to loot 100 Lootr barrels while exploring. It sits in the Bounty Board chapter, in the Exploration & Combat group (chapter 11 of 31), which holds repeatable quests that earn cash for the shops.[3]
How does Lootr work?
5 parts
The sources show no machines, power, fluid or multiblock setup for Lootr. What it changes is how loot containers behave, and almost everything you can tune lives in config/lootr-common.toml. Here is how the systems work in this pack.[1][5]
Per-player containers
According to the mod's project page, each container that has a loot table creates a unique inventory for every player who opens it. It lists chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts. The containers have a distinct look, and their colour changes from gold to blue if a player has already opened them. So there is no race to a structure, and you will not open a chest that someone else already emptied.[1]
Lootr simply changes the containers: the project page says loot is generated in exactly the same way as vanilla chests generate it. The page also says Lootr is currently required on both the client and the server. If you dislike the look, a client-side option forces the default vanilla skin, but then you lose the visual hint that a container was already opened.[1]
In the pack's config, conversion.randomise_seed is true. That means loot is randomised per player instead of every player getting the same roll from the provided seed.[5]
How containers get converted
In the pack's config, conversion is switched on, since conversion.disable is false. Structure item frames with items in them are set to become Lootr item frames (conversion.convert_item_frames is true). Mineshaft chest minecarts are set to be converted to standard loot chests (conversion.convert_mineshafts is true). The Elytra item frame is set to become a Lootr item frame with an elytra inside, not a chest with a guaranteed elytra, because conversion.convert_elytras_to_item_frames is true and conversion.convert_elytras_to_chests is false.[5]
The config sets conversion.tick_delay to 20 ticks, the same as the mod default. The higher this value, the slower containers determine they should refresh or decay. Opening a Lootr container bypasses spawn protection (conversion.bypass_spawn_protection is true). Data files are saved with the SMART mode (conversion.save_mode), which defaults to always saving but switches to saving only when a container is opened on Aternos and Exaroton.[5]
There are a few limits to know about. The project page says containers that were already opened before Lootr was added to a world will not be converted, because vanilla removes the loot table when it generates the loot. A container from another mod may not convert if that mod fills it with items by hand instead of using a loot table. The vanilla Woodland Mansion axe chest has no loot table and is never converted.[1]
The pack's config lists loot tables whose conversion causes problems in whitelist.problematic_loot_tables: twilightforest:structures/stronghold_boss and atum:chests/pharaoh. The other blacklist and whitelist options for dimensions, loot tables and mod ids are all empty in the config.[5]
Refresh and decay
The project page describes optional systems for repeat visits. Refresh regenerates a container's contents after the configured period of time. Decay destroys a container the next time someone attempts to open it, a configurable time after it was first opened.[1]
As the pack's config is set, no chest is selected for refresh or decay. The lists that select what refreshes or decays (refresh.refresh_loot_tables, refresh.refresh_modids, refresh.refresh_dimensions, decay.decay_loot_tables, decay.decay_modids and decay.decay_dimensions) are empty, and the override options refresh.refresh_all and decay.decay_all are false.[5]
If those lists were filled in, the timers are already set. refresh.refresh_value is 24,000 ticks (20 minutes) and decay.decay_value is 6,000 ticks (5 minutes). Both match the mod defaults. With decay.replace_when_decayed false, a decayed container is not replaced with its vanilla block.[5]
Several tick-based options are set in the config. refresh.start_refresh_while_ticking is true, so containers not yet marked as refreshing can be marked during the level tick as well as when next trapped. refresh.perform_refresh_while_ticking is true, so containers already marked as refreshing are refreshed during the level tick. decay.perform_decay_while_ticking is true, but decay.start_decay_while_ticking is false, so containers not yet marked for decay are only marked when next trapped.[5]
The config sets notifications.notification_delay to 600 ticks (30 seconds): that is the maximum time remaining on a chest before a refresh or decay notification is sent to a player. Notifications and their message styling are both left on.[5]
Breaking and explosions
By default, according to the project page, a player who tries to break a container gets a warning message that all containers are available per player. They can still break it while sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
The pack's config leaves every breaking option at false: breaking.disable_break, breaking.enable_break, breaking.enable_fake_player_break, breaking.blast_immune, breaking.blast_resistant, breaking.should_drop_player_loot, breaking.brushables_self_support and breaking.item_frames_self_support. So the explosion protections are off, brushable blocks and Lootr item frames do not have the self-support behaviour, and broken chests do not drop the player-specific contents.[5]
Redstone and custom containers
power.power_comparators is true in the pack's config, so a comparator on a Lootr container gives an output of 1. power.trapped_custom is false, so custom inventories do not act like trapped chests when opened.[5]
You can also make your own Lootr container, for example a starter chest for everyone. The project page says to fill a vanilla chest, stand on it and run the /lootr custom command, which requires operator privileges. The result is a custom inventory that uses the same visual appearance as a chest.[1]
How do you progress through Lootr?
1 part
Lootr is a loot-chest mod, so this section is short. In this pack the quest book only touches it once, and it does so through exploration rather than a crafting ladder.[3]
Where Lootr shows up in the quest book
The Lootr quest is in the Bounty Board chapter. That chapter sits in the group "Exploration & Combat" and is chapter 11 of 31 in the book. It has 59 quests, mostly structure hunts, mob kills and play-time milestones.[3]
The chapter's intro quest, "The Bounty Board" quest, says the chapter holds repeatable quests that you can complete for some extra cash to spend at the shops.[3]
- a quest in "Bounty Board" has no title in the book. It is an advancement task, and its text reads: "Loot 100 Lootr barrels while exploring."[3]
The goal is simple: you open 100 Lootr barrels as you explore. It sits next to quests like "Find the Ruined Citadel" quest and "Find a Bastion" quest, so it fits the loot-hunting side of the chapter.[3]
Unverified No in-pack recipes for Lootr items were available, so this guide does not describe any crafting tiers for the mod.
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Lootr?
Lootr shows up in just one quest chapter in this pack: Bounty Board. It sits in the "Exploration & Combat" group and is chapter 11 of 31 in the quest book.[3]
The Lootr quest is a quest in "Bounty Board", which has no title of its own in the book. Its text asks you to loot 100 Lootr barrels while exploring, and it is tracked through an advancement task. Lootr gives each player their own copy of a container's loot, so this is a good one to tick off as you explore.[3]
The chapter's intro quest, "The Bounty Board" quest, explains what Bounty Board is for: it holds repeatable quests that you can complete for some extra cash to spend at the shops.[3]
The rest of the chapter's 59 quests are mostly mob kills, structure hunts, boss fights and playtime goals. For example, you will see "Kill The Ender Dragon" quest and "Play for 1 Hour" quest in the same chapter. None of them are about Lootr.[3]
The quest sources don't give the order in which the Lootr quest unlocks within the chapter, so I can't say what comes before or after it.[3]
Which Lootr config options matter?
6 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Lootr has a common file, lootr-common.toml, for container behaviour, and a client file, lootr-client.toml, which holds the particle and texture options. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, and what the pack sets them to.[6][7]
Refreshing and decaying
The pack leaves refresh.refresh_all and decay.decay_all at false, so the setting that makes every chest refresh or decay after being trapped for the first time is off. The lists refresh.refresh_loot_tables, refresh.refresh_modids, refresh.refresh_dimensions, decay.decay_loot_tables, decay.decay_modids and decay.decay_dimensions are all empty. The option descriptions say that blank lists mean no chests refresh or decay.[7]
- refresh.refresh_value is 24,000 ticks, the same as the mod default. The option's description gives that as 20 minutes.[7]
- decay.decay_value is 6,000 ticks, also the mod default. The option's description gives that as 5 minutes.[7]
- notifications.notification_delay is 600 ticks, matching the mod default. It is the maximum time remaining on a chest before a refresh or decay notification is sent to a player. notifications.disable_notifications is false.[7]
- decay.replace_when_decayed is false. When it is true, decayed containers are replaced with their vanilla equivalent instead of being removed.[7]
Breaking chests
The pack sets breaking.disable_break, breaking.enable_break, breaking.blast_immune and breaking.blast_resistant to false. breaking.should_drop_player_loot is false too, so a broken chest does not drop the contents of the player-specific inventory.[7]
Conversion
- conversion.disable is false, so the option that stops all chest conversion is off.[7]
- conversion.convert_item_frames and conversion.convert_mineshafts are true. Item frames with items in them that structures generate are converted into Lootr item frames, and mineshaft chest minecarts are converted to standard loot chests.[7]
- conversion.convert_elytras_to_item_frames is true and conversion.convert_elytras_to_chests is false. The Elytra item frame is converted into a Lootr item frame with an elytra inside, not a chest.[7]
- conversion.randomise_seed is true, so loot is randomised per player instead of being the same for all players from the provided seed.[7]
- conversion.bypass_spawn_protection is true, so accessing a Lootr container bypasses spawn protection.[7]
- conversion.save_mode is "SMART". conversion.max_age is 18,000 and conversion.tick_delay is 20. Both numbers match the mod default.[7]
Blacklists and problem loot tables
The pack leaves the dimension, mod ID and loot table whitelist and blacklist options empty, including whitelist.dimension_blacklist and whitelist.loot_table_blacklist. The exception is whitelist.problematic_loot_tables, which lists loot tables whose conversion causes problems: twilightforest:structures/stronghold_boss and atum:chests/pharaoh.[7]
Redstone
power.power_comparators is true, so a comparator on a Lootr container gives an output of 1. power.trapped_custom is false.[7]
Client visuals
particles.unopened_particles is true, so particles spawn from containers you have not yet opened. textures.new_textures and textures.vanilla_textures are both false.[6]
What changed in Lootr between versions?
4 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Lootr 1.21.1-1.11.38.125, and the mod was already in the pack by Aero 1.0.3 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for Lootr, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for the last few releases.[2]
1.11.38.125 (the version in this pack)
- Emergency conversion now triggers an advancement.[8]
- A fix so that "suspicious" no longer blocks chest opening.[8]
- Particle fixes: Lootr now tests line of sight for particles, and tests the particle center in the frustum instead.[8]
- The limiter is no longer overridden.[8]
1.11.38.124
A small release. It works around a weird issue where getContainerAt returned something that wasn't a Container.[9]
1.11.38.123
- Fixes for some refresh and decay issues.[10]
- Work on reducing block entity tick cost: ticking block entities can now be delayed by a configurable amount, the random offset moved to the instance, and the visual openers supplier is memoized.[10]
- Non-entity hopper containers are now guarded.[10]
- Fixed a stack overflow in the item obliterator.[10]
- Updated translations from Crowdin.[10]
1.11.37.122
- A new advancement for trapped chests.[11]
- You can now break pots with arrows.[11]
- Decorated Pots now properly handle minecraft:empty loot pool entries.[11]
- Hoppers are prevented from inserting into entities and blocks.[11]
- Trying to insert into item frames now shows a message, item frames are not converted while the feature is disabled, and the message during emergency conversion now displays properly.[11]
- lootr_minecart is now aliased to lootr_cart.[11]
- A Create schematicannon duplication issue was fixed.[11]
- Russian and Polish translation updates, plus other Crowdin updates.[11]
