What is KubeJS?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

KubeJS is in this pack's mod list, at version 2101.7.2, and the file is the NeoForge build of the mod.[1]

The mod list says it was first included in version 1.22.0 of the pack or earlier. It does not say which release added it.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not describe what KubeJS does, because no mod description or in-jar guidebook was available. They also show no quest chapter, group or position for it in the pack's quest book, and no place for it on the ATM Star path. Check the pack's quest book in game for anything about it.

How does KubeJS work?

4 parts

KubeJS doesn't add machines, multiblocks or its own power and fluid systems in this pack. What the pack's script shows is KubeJS used as a scripting layer that registers custom items. This section covers how that works, as far as the sources go.[2]

How the pack registers its items

The pack has a startup script at kubejs/startup_scripts/registry/items.js. It keeps one list of item definitions and loops over it during the startup item registry event. Each entry becomes an item in the ftb namespace, not kubejs. The script runs with a priority of 1,002.[2]

Each entry can set a few optional properties, and the script only applies the ones an entry actually lists: rarity, fire resistance, max stack size, glow and food. An entry can also be flagged as a music disc, which makes it jukebox playable with a given sound.[2]

  • The music disc entry is set to epic rarity and plays the sound ftb:blockvblock.[2]
  • The entry with the itemID player_upgrade is fire resistant, epic and limited to a max stack size of 1.[2]
  • The skill reset items for magic, melee, ranged, athletics, mining and defense are all registered with epic rarity.[2]
  • The entries purified_spirit and firestick are registered with epic rarity, and purified_spirit is also fire resistant.[2]

Intermediate items

A large share of the list is items with an incomplete_ prefix, such as drill heads, gears, rotors, pumps and mugs. They are registered as plain items, mostly with no extra properties. The exceptions are incomplete_charged_precision_mechanism and incomplete_infinitely_compressed_circuit_board, which are epic rarity.[2]

The script has a separate group commented as Pina Colada items. It holds things like compressed_sugar, ice_cubes and bedrockium_mug, plus several epic items such as bio_neural_circuit and positron_matrix. Another group is commented as end game replicator items and currently holds tropical_circuit.[2]

Scrolls and glyphs

Two groups of items are commented as right-click rewards. The sealed scrolls come in common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary, and the comment says right-clicking one gives you a random Iron's Spells scroll of matching rarity. The epic and legendary scrolls glow.[2]

The three codex glyph items, codex_glyph_1, codex_glyph_2 and codex_glyph_3, are commented as unlocking a random Ars Nouveau glyph of matching tier when right-clicked. They glow and are fire resistant.[2]

Tip: This script only registers the items. The comments describe what the scrolls and glyphs do, but the code that makes them do it isn't in this file.[2]

Creative tab

The script also modifies the creative tab kubejs:tab and sets its display name to "Feed The Beast".[2]

How do you progress through KubeJS?

2 parts

KubeJS has no tier ladder of its own. In this pack it is the scripting layer that registers custom items, and the only thing I can confirm is what the startup script adds. So this section covers the item groups that carry a built-in tier or rarity, not a step-by-step path.[2]

Tiered items the script registers

  • Sealed scrolls come in one version per rarity: common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary. Right-clicking one gives you a random Iron's Spells scroll of the matching rarity. The epic and legendary ones glow.[2]
  • Codex glyphs come in tiered versions (codex_glyph_1, codex_glyph_2 and codex_glyph_3). Right-clicking one unlocks a random Ars Nouveau glyph of the matching tier. All of them glow and are fire resistant.[2]
  • Skill reset items exist for these skills: magic, melee, ranged, athletics, mining and defense. All are epic rarity.[2]
  • A player_upgrade item is registered as epic, fire resistant and limited to a stack size of 1.[2]

Intermediate and late-game items

The script also registers a long list of "incomplete_" items. These cover drill heads in several metals (copper, bronze, gold, steel, stainless steel, titanium and aluminum), gears, rotors, pumps and a few others. The names suggest they are intermediate stages of multi-step crafts, but the script does not show the recipes, so I can't tell you how they are used.[2]

There is also a group commented as "Pina Colada Items". It includes items such as bedrockium_mug, bio_neural_circuit, positron_matrix, realized_transcendence, infinitely_compressed_circuit_board and creative_ascension, with most of the late-looking ones set to epic rarity. A separate comment marks tropical_circuit as an "End Game Replicator" item.[2]

Everything above is registered under the pack's own ftb namespace. The script also names the creative tab "Feed The Beast".[2]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as kubejs, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
