What is Drive By Wire?
Drive By Wire is included in this pack at version 0.3.0, shipped as the file drivebywire-0.3.0.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Drive By Wire does, so its features and mechanics are not covered in this section. Its items and recipes use the drivebywire namespace.
How do you get started with Drive By Wire?
4 parts
Drive By Wire lets you send redstone power over cables instead of placing redstone dust. The one big rule: cable networks only work on assembled VS2 ships, so build your network on a ship and not on plain world blocks.[2]
Step one: make Cable
Start with Cable, because it is what carries the signal. Connect a redstone source to a block and the power is carried over the cable. Connect a block to a block and the adjacent redstone power is carried over too.[2]

Good news for survival: this pack sets shouldConsumeWires to false, so cables are not used up when you place them.[2][4]
Step two: make the Cable Cutter
Next, grab the Cable Cutter. It's there for when you have a bad connection or too many cables and want to cut them all. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so follow the one below.[2][3]

Step three: control your network from afar
Once you have a working network, the Linked Controller Hub lets you bind your controller to it and control the network from far away.[2]

There is also the Tweaked Controller Hub, which has the same description in the mod and its own recipe.[2][3]

Step four: protect your work with a Backup Block
Before you save a sublevel as a schematic, place a Network Backup Block on it. Currently it preserves only the cable links inside that same sublevel, and they are restored when the placed schematic is assembled.[2]

How does Drive By Wire work?
6 parts
Drive By Wire is all about sending redstone signals along cables. Here is how the system works in this pack.[2]
Cables carry redstone
The mod's Ponder scenes open with a disclaimer: cable networks only work on assembled VS2 ships. Build and assemble your ship first, then start wiring.[2]
There are two basic connections. If you connect a redstone source to a block with a Cable, that redstone power is transmitted over the cable. If you connect one block to another, the adjacent redstone power is transmitted over the cable.[2]

Lectern channels
Connections from lectern controllers have a special feature: they have multiple channels to transmit over, and these correspond to the controller keys. While you hold Cables, use the scrollwheel to select the channel you want.[2]
Cables are free in this pack
The option shouldConsumeWires decides whether wires are consumed on use in survival mode. This pack sets it to false, so placing connections does not use up your cables.[2][4]
Cutting cables
If a network turns into a mess, the Cable Cutter lets you cut them all. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so use the one below.[2][3]

Controlling a network from afar
The Linked Controller Hub and the Tweaked Controller Hub share the same in-game description: bind your controller to the block and you can control that network from far away.[2]

Saving networks with the Backup Block
Want to save a network to a schematic and load it again? Place a Network Backup Block on your sublevel before you make the schematic. The internal same-sublevel connections are then restored when the placed schematic is assembled. Backup Blocks currently preserve only those internal links.[2]

How do you progress through Drive By Wire?
4 parts
Drive By Wire has no quests in this pack's quest book that I can point you to, so progression here is set by the crafting recipes. They lean on Create parts, and the later items ask for more advanced Create components than the earlier ones. Here is the order I'd work through it.[3]
Cable and Cable Cutter
Cable is the base of the mod. Its recipe uses Create's Redstone Link, so you need Create's redstone tech before you can start. The Network Backup Block also uses cable in its own recipe.[3]

Recipe id: drivebywire:wire
The Cable Cutter is where the pack changes things. Its recipe is marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on a recipe you remember from the standalone mod. This version uses an iron plate, so you need to be producing plates first.[3]

Network Backup Block
The Network Backup Block is the first item here that needs a Create brass casing. It also needs your cable, so craft that first. This is the mod's own recipe, not one the pack changed.[3]

Linked Controller Hub
The Linked Controller Hub also builds on a brass casing, and it adds Create's Transmitter. It uses the mod's own recipe.[3]

Tweaked Controller Hub
The Tweaked Controller Hub has the longest ingredient list in the mod. It starts from the same kind of base as the Linked Controller Hub, but it also needs an Electron Tube and a Precision Mechanism from Create. Plan your Create crafting for those parts before you try it.[3]

How does Drive By Wire work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, Drive By Wire connects mainly to Create. Every crafted item of the mod except the Cable Cutter uses Create parts, so you will want your Create setup running before you build a wire network.[3]
Create
The Cable is the base of the network, and its recipe is built around Create's Redstone Link. Here is how it is crafted:[3]

The Linked Controller Hub also depends on Create, and uses the Brass Casing and the Transmitter in its crafting.[3]

The Tweaked Controller Hub is a second hub recipe that goes further into Create's components, including the Electron Tube and the Precision Mechanism.[3]

The Network Backup Block is crafted from a Create casing as well, together with a Cable and a couple of vanilla items.[3]

The Cable Cutter and FTB Materials
The pack changed the Cable Cutter recipe. It now uses the Iron Plate from the pack's own materials, so you need to be making plates before you can craft it.[3]

Which Drive By Wire config options matter?
Drive By Wire has only one config file in this pack, and the source I have shows a single option in it: shouldConsumeWires. The pack sets it to false.[4]
Unverified The mod's default value for this option isn't in the pack files I have, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed it. The exact in-game behaviour of the option isn't described there either.
