What is Create: Radars?
2 parts
Create: Radars adds tools and blocks for surveillance, detection and controlling weapons. It needs Create to run. It is designed so you build contraptions of animated components that work together in many possible arrangements, rather than playing inside a bunch of UIs. The mod describes itself as alpha, so expect it to keep changing.[1]
What it adds
- Radar bearing multiblock: you shape the radar however you like, and each characteristic of that shape influences what it can do.[1]
- Scalable monitor multiblock: it lets you visualize your radar, so you get an overview of the battlefield and can spot intruders easily.[1]
- Cannon controller: it lets you direct your autocannons at intruders with the help of your radars.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Create: Radars version 0.4.9.4-1.21.1, and the mod was already included in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.8.0 or earlier.[2]
How do you get started with Create: Radars?
4 parts
Create: Radars lets you build a radar out of animated Create parts, show what it sees on a monitor, and then use that to aim cannons. Here is the order I'd make things in.[1][3]
Step one: the radar itself
The radar is a multiblock built around a Radar Bearing. The in-game ponder scenes start the contraption with a Radar Receiver Block, so make that first.[1][3]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own.
Next come the parts that give the radar its reach. A Radar Dish and a Radar Plate can be used interchangeably, and adding more of them extends the range. The pack changed both recipes.[3][4]

For numbers: a receiver has a base range of 20 blocks, each dish adds 10 blocks, the field of view is 90 degrees and a radar contraption tops out at 1,000 blocks. These match the mod defaults. See radarStatsConfig.radarBaseRange, radarStatsConfig.dishRangeIncrease, radarStatsConfig.radarFOV and radarStatsConfig.maxRadarRange.[5]
Step two: see it on a monitor
A radar on its own tells you nothing, so make a Monitor and a Data Link. One craft gives you 3 monitors, and the monitor multiblock has a maximum size of 9 (see monitorMaxSize).[4][5]

Build the radar contraption, then link it to the monitor with a Data Link. Right click the Radar Link to configure it. Links can be at most 128 blocks apart (see radarLinkRange).[3][5]
Step three: the Network Controller and filters
The Network Controller is the core piece of the radar network. You use Data Links to connect it to a monitor, and the same can be done for radars.[3]

Its recipe uses three filter items, so you will be making those anyway. The Detection Filter excludes categories of mobs and other entities from the monitor. The Identification Filter excludes specific players and Sable Sublevels from autotargeting. The Targeting Filter enables autotargeting and sets how it behaves. All three can be placed in the Network Controller.[3][4]
Step four: hooking up weapons
Once the radar works, you can build a weapon network. The Auto Yaw Controller goes under the turret mount, you link it with Data Links, and then you repeat the steps for the Auto Pitch Controller. A Fire Controller emits a redstone signal when the cannon is in the correct position, and you connect it to the radar network with Data Links.[3]
For manual aiming, Binoculars pair to a Network Controller when you sneak and right click it. While zoomed in and holding left click, connected guns aim at the spot you are looking at.[3]
How does Create: Radars work?
6 parts
Create: Radars is built around contraptions rather than menus. You assemble animated parts into a radar, wire them to a monitor with links, and optionally hook up weapons. The mod is marked as alpha, so expect it to keep changing.[1]
Building a radar
A radar is a contraption on a Radar Bearing. You place a Radar Receiver Block, then add Radar Dish or Radar Plate blocks. Dishes and plates can be used interchangeably, and adding more of them extends the range.[1][3]
The pack changes the recipes for the bearing, the dish and the plate. The receiver uses the mod's own recipe.[4]

The pack's server config sets the radar's stats. The values below are the same as the mod defaults.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarBaseRange: a receiver has a base range of 20 blocks.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.dishRangeIncrease: each dish block adds 10 blocks of range.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.maxRadarRange: the maximum range of a radar contraption is 1,000 blocks.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarFOV: the field of view is 90 degrees.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarYScanRange: the maximum vertical scan range is 20 blocks.[5]
radarStatsConfig.gearRadarBearingSpeed is true in the pack. That means a radar bearing rotates slower the more dishes are connected to it, so a bigger radar sees further but sweeps more slowly.[5]
The Plane Radar is a separate block. Its range is set by radarStatsConfig.planeRadarRange, which is 250 blocks in the pack (the same as the mod default).[3][5]
The Network Controller and filters
The Network Controller (shown in-game as Network Controller) is the core piece of the radar network. Filter items go inside it to limit what it can see and do.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | Empty slot | |
| Empty slot | Empty slot |
Recipe id: create_radar:crafting/network_filterer
- Detection Filter excludes certain categories of mobs and other entities from the monitor. Filtered entities are also excluded from autotargeting.[3]
- Targeting Filter enables autotargeting and sets the targeting behaviour. Line of sight works even outside autotargeting.[3]
- Identification Filter excludes specific players and Sable Sublevels from autotargeting.[3]
To protect your own ship, place an Identification Transponder on a Sable Sublevel. You set a name and an identification code on it. If the code matches the one in an Identification Filter inside a Network Controller, that sublevel is left out of autotargeting.[3]
The mod also has a Radar Warning Receiver. On a Sable Sublevel it plays one sound when you are in range of a radar and another when a radar locks onto you.[3]
Data Links and monitors
Data Link blocks connect everything. Use them to connect the Network Controller to a Monitor, and do the same for radars. After building a radar contraption, link it with a Data Link and right click the radar link to configure it. The maximum distance between links is set by radarLinkRange, 128 blocks in the pack.[3][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: create_radar:crafting/data_link
Monitors form a multiblock. monitorMaxSize caps its size at 9 in the pack, the same as the mod default.[1][5]
Weapon networks
Weapons plug into the same network. The in-game guide for a simple weapon network goes like this:[3]
- Place the Auto Yaw Controller under the turret mount.[3]
- Link it with Data Links, then repeat for the Auto Pitch Controller.[3]
- Add a Fire Controller, which emits a redstone signal when the linked cannon mount is aligned.[3]
- Connect it all to the radar network with Data Links.[3]
- Select a target on the monitor for the turret to aim at and fire at.[3]
Crafting Shaped

| Empty slot | Empty slot |
Recipe id: create_radar:crafting/fire_controller
Several config values shape how the controllers behave, and the pack keeps them all at the mod defaults:[5]
- controllerPhysbearingMaxSpeed is 25, the maximum rotational speed of phys bearings controlled by the pitch and yaw controllers.[5]
- targetLoosenAmount is 15 degrees of extra tolerance when deciding whether cannons point at the target. It only applies once the target moves faster than targetLoosenThreshold, 3 m/s.[5]
- firingDelay is 0. It is the firing delay used in leading calculations, and higher values may help in laggy environments.[5]
Manual targeting with Binoculars
Binoculars let you aim cannons yourself. Sneak and right click a Network Controller to pair them. Then, while zoomed in with the paired binoculars, hold left click to slave any connected guns to the spot you are looking at. They can acquire a target out to binocularRange, which is 512 blocks in the pack.[3][5]
Guided Fuze
The Guided Fuze shows which Network Controller it is linked to, or that none is linked. In the pack it can correct its course by up to 3 degrees per tick (guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeMaxDegreesPerTick). It can track targets in a cone of up to 180 degrees, which is a full circle (guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeMaxSeekDegrees).[3][5]
guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeSeekBeforeApex is false in the pack. That means the fuze cannot seek its target until it has begun to fall.[5]
How do you progress through Create: Radars?
4 parts
The pack's quests do not cover this mod, so this order follows the recipes themselves: each stage builds on parts from the one before it. Most of the later crafts lean on Create components like Electron Tube and Precision Mechanism, so get your Create setup going early.[4]
Starter tools and filters
Start with the simple items: Binoculars and the Radar Safe Zone Designator. Both are the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.[4]

Building the radar
This is where the pack changes things. The recipes for the Radar Plate, the Radar Dish and the Radar Bearing are altered by the pack. Don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults: the blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[4]

Displays and networking
Next come the display and linking parts. One craft of the Monitor recipe gives you 3 Monitors. The Data Link and the Identification Transponder are the linking pieces. The Network Controller (shown in-game as Network Controller) is the most involved of the group, because it takes every filter from the starter stage.[4]

How does Create: Radars work with other mods?
4 parts
Create: Radars is an add-on that requires Create, and you can see that all through its recipes in this pack. Most radar parts are built from Create components, and a few of them also use a material added by the pack itself.[1][4]
Recipes the pack changed
Three recipes are marked as changed by the pack: the Radar Bearing, the Radar Dish and the Radar Plate. All three use the Iron Plate, so you need that material before you can start building a radar. The bearing also builds on Create's Mechanical Bearing and Electron Tube.[4]

Create components in the radar chain
- Create's Gearbox and Precision Mechanism are what the Auto Pitch Controller and Auto Yaw Controller build on. Their recipes are shown below.[4]
- The Data Link uses Create's Brass Casing and Transmitter.[4]
- The Identification Transponder uses a Redstone Link along with brass casing and an electron tube.[4]
- The Radar Receiver Block uses a Block of Industrial Iron, and the Plane Radar combines the dish and receiver with brass casing.[4]
- The Monitor is crafted from brass casing, an electron tube and a precision mechanism, and one craft gives you 3 monitors.[4]

Which Create: Radars config options matter?
3 parts
Create: Radars has a server config and a client config. In this pack, every numeric value listed in both files is exactly the mod default, so nothing here has been rebalanced. The values below are what you will actually get in your world.[5][6]
Radar range and shape (server)
These options decide how far and how wide your radar can see. They are set in config/create_radar-server.toml.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarBaseRange is 20 blocks, the base range of a radar receiver.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.dishRangeIncrease is 10 blocks of extra range per dish block.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.maxRadarRange caps a radar contraption at 1,000 blocks.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarYScanRange limits the vertical scan range to 20 blocks.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.radarFOV sets the field of view to 90 degrees.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.planeRadarRange is 250 blocks for the plane radar.[5]
- radarStatsConfig.gearRadarBearingSpeed is true, so radar bearings rotate slower the more dishes are connected to them.[5]
Links, binoculars and weapons (server)
- radarLinkRange is 128 blocks, the maximum distance between radar links.[5]
- binocularRange is 512, the range at which the binocular can acquire a target.[5]
- monitorMaxSize is 9, the maximum size of a monitor multiblock.[5]
- firingDelay is 0. It feeds the leading calculation, and the config notes that higher values may help in laggy environments.[5]
- targetLoosenAmount is 15 degrees of extra tolerance when checking whether cannons point at the target. targetLoosenThreshold is 3, the speed in m/s a target must exceed before those looser conditions apply.[5]
- controllerPhysbearingMaxSpeed is 25, the max rotational speed of phys bearings driven by Pitch/Yaw controllers.[5]
- For the guided fuze, guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeMaxDegreesPerTick is 3 degrees per tick and guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeMaxSeekDegrees is 180, a full circle. guidedFuzeConfig.guidedFuzeSeekBeforeApex is false, so the fuze does not seek its target before it begins to fall.[5]
Monitor display (client)
These live in config/create_radar-client.toml and only affect how your own monitors look.[6]
- monitorConfig.useGuiByDefault is true, so any interaction with a monitor opens its GUI. Set it to false for the pre 0.4 behavior.[6]
- monitorConfig.monitorLabelScale is 0.5, the scale of ship names and player usernames in the monitor GUI.[6]
- gridBoxScale is 100, the scale of the grid boxes on the monitor in blocks.[6]
- The monitor colors are all at their defaults: friendlyColor, hostileColor, neutralEntityColor, playerColor, projectileColor, itemcolor, contraptionColor, groundRadarColor and SableColor.[6]
What changed in Create: Radars between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Create: Radars 0.4.9.4-1.21.1. The mod was first included in the pack in 1.8.0 or earlier, so that is as far back as the pack file lets me trace it.[2]
What changed in 0.4.9.4
This is the version you are running, and its changelog is mostly about making the radar-guided cannons better at hitting targets that move.[2][7]
- The fire condition is looser for moving targets.[7]
- There is a new config to control the extra tolerance applied to moving targets.[7]
- There is a new config to control how fast a target must be moving before that tolerance applies.[7]
- Sodium should now cause fewer visual glitches, though the changelog says it is known not to work for some players.[7]
- Pickaxes and axes breaking when Aeronautics was not installed has been fixed again (the changelog stresses that this time it is actually fixed).[7]
Known issues
The mod's changelog lists a few problems you may run into with this version:[7]
- Cannons on Aeronautics contraptions point in a random direction. Loading the cannon fixes it.[7]
- A cannon sometimes fires before it is properly aligned. Putting a repeater between the fire control block and the mount can fix this.[7]
- Some players have trouble with newer versions of CBC. The changelog calls 5.11.3 the most stable version.[7]
