What is Create: Bits 'n' Bobs?
2 parts
Create: Bits 'n' Bobs is a set of small, polished additions built to integrate closely with Create. This pack includes version 2.3.2 of the mod. It mixes decorative blocks, a few new kinetic machines and some behaviour tweaks for things you already use in Create.[1][2]
What it adds
- Behaviour tweaks: you can swap the wood type of wooden cogwheels, including ones from addons. Fluid pipes and tanks can be dyed, and pipes of different colours ignore each other.[1]
- Cogwheel Chain Drives: a kinetic transfer option that works with all Create cogwheels and many addons. Flanged cogwheels let you build chain drives with other materials such as belts or ropes, and the Cogwheel Chain Carriage attaches contraptions to a chain drive.[1]
- Other kinetic blocks: the Flywheel bearing smoothly rotates a contraption based on its mass, and it has a config option that makes it act as a kinetic battery. The Chain Pulley is a rope pulley variant that uses a chain.[1]
- Decorative blocks: cable, girder and weathered girder struts, dyeable chairs, larger Nixie tubes and boards with an ornate font, tile block palettes for stone types, industrial truss, grating panels and grating blocks, headlamps and lightbulbs, and weathered metal girders and brackets.[1]
- Encasings: piston poles can be encased, and Industrial Iron and Weathered Iron can be used to encase blocks.[1]
Config and compatibility
Every feature can be disabled in the mod's config, and the config can also change the balance of certain values. I can't confirm which of those settings this pack changed, so check the config in game before you rely on any default.[1]
The mod also hides duplicate content from other addons, such as the wooden cogwheels from Create: Encased, in creative tabs, interaction and crafting. This behaviour is configurable.[1]
How do you get started with Create: Bits 'n' Bobs?
5 parts
Create: Bits 'n' Bobs adds small decorative and mechanical extras that plug straight into Create. The order below starts with the mechanical pieces and moves on to decoration.[1]
Every feature in this mod can be switched off in its config. In this pack almost all of them are on. The exception is the legacy featureFlags.blocks.brassLamp, which is set to false, so don't go looking for it.[1][3]
Flanged cogwheels
Start with the Flanged Cogwheel and the Large Flanged Cogwheel. They are what you use to build cogwheel chain drives, which are a different way to transfer rotation. A chain can connect 2 or more cogwheels, and gear ratios are preserved across it.[1][4][5]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: bits_n_bobs:crafting/large_bevel_cogwheel
This pack also leaves featureFlags.behaviours.undedicatedCogwheelChainDrives on, so you can build chain drives on cogwheels that aren't flanged too. Chain drives are capped at 64 for both the bounds (cogwheelMaxBounds) and the node count (cogwheelMaxNodeCount). Both are the mod defaults.[3][6]
Cogwheel Chain Carriage
Next comes the Cogwheel Chain Carriage, which lets you attach contraptions to a chain drive. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[1][4]

Struts and girders
The Girder Strut spans the gap between two blocks, and can be placed at different angles. A strut can only move in 2 axes at the same time, so it can't bend. The Cable Girder Strut is the cable version, and the pack changed its recipe.[1][4][5]

Light and displays
The Lightbulb recipe gives you 3 at once. Craft it first, because the Headlamp is made from lightbulbs. You can place multiple headlamps within one block and dye each one individually.[1][4]

Industrial blocks
The Metal Truss can also be used to encase pipes or shafts. In this pack the truss and the grating blocks use changed recipes, and the Industrial Grating is made with a stonecutter.[1][4]

How does Create: Bits 'n' Bobs work?
8 parts
Bits 'n' Bobs adds small, polished mechanical and decorative pieces that plug straight into Create. Most of it is toggled by feature flags in the config, so this page covers the systems that actually change how you build and automate.[1]
Cogwheel chain drives
Chain drives are the mod's headline kinetic feature: chains can connect 2 or more cogwheels, and gear ratios are preserved across the chain. A chain can even change axis when it links two large cogwheels, as long as they share a common tangent for the chain to follow.[5]
In this pack you are not limited to flanged cogwheels. featureFlags.behaviours.undedicatedCogwheelChainDrives is on, so you can build chain drives on cogwheels that are not dedicated for chains. featureFlags.blocks.flangedChainDrives is also on, so flanged cogwheels work too.[3]
The Large Flanged Cogwheel is made from a Create large cogwheel plus an iron nugget, and the pack leaves that recipe as the mod ships it.[4]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: bits_n_bobs:crafting/large_bevel_cogwheel
- cogwheelMaxBounds is 64 (allowed range 1 to 256), the maximum bounds of a chain drive.[6]
- cogwheelMaxNodeCount is 64 (allowed range 1 to 256), the maximum number of nodes in one chain.[6]
- cogwheelChainDriveCostFactor is 1, a multiplier on how many chains a drive needs. The minimum cost is always 1 chain unless the value is set to 0, and existing drives do not change how many chains they return.[6]
All three of those values match the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them.[6]
Carriage and chain pulley
The Cogwheel Chain Carriage lets you attach contraptions to a chain drive. The pack changed its recipe, so use this one rather than any default you may have seen elsewhere.[1][4]

The Chain Pulley is a variant of Create's rope pulley that uses a chain. You make it by applying a chain to a rope pulley.[1][4]

Recipe id: bits_n_bobs:item_application/chain_pulley_from_rope_pulley
Flywheel bearing
The flywheel bearing smoothly rotates a contraption based on its mass, and it can optionally act as a kinetic battery. The block is available in the pack, but flywheelBearingStorageCapability is false. That means it is purely decorative here and does not store kinetic energy.[1][3][6]
If storage were switched on, the other flywheel settings would apply. flywheelMaxRpmFactor is 0.25, a multiplier of Create's max rotation speed (default 256), giving 64 RPM. Setting it to 1.0 would give 256 RPM. flywheelStorageFactor is 1 for storage capacity, and flywheelTransferCapacityPerAngularMass is 5 stress units per tick per angular mass, which controls how fast a flywheel fills and drains.[6]
Dyed pipes and tanks
Fluid pipes and tanks can be dyed in this pack, since both featureFlags.behaviours.dyeablePipes and featureFlags.behaviours.dyeableTanks are on. Dye acts as a connection filter, which is handy for keeping separate fluid lines from touching.[3][5]
- Pipes with no dye connect automatically when touching, and they also connect to dyed pipes of any color.[5]
- Dyed pipes only connect automatically to pipes of the same color.[5]
- Placing a pipe with dye in your off-hand applies the dye color to the pipe immediately.[5]
- Tanks are recolored by applying dye. Sneak to dye a single block within a tank.[5]
- Dyed tanks will not connect to tanks without a matching dye. Pipes and tanks of the same color connect as usual, while pipes of different colors will not connect automatically.[5]
Nixie displays
The Large Nixie Tube displays custom text and symbols. Tubes combine when they sit in compatible rows, a Wrench changes the display mode, and dye recolors all connected tubes at once. The pack changed its recipe.[4][5]

The Nixie Board works in a similar way. It extends when connected to neighbours, and boards placed above or below connect into larger displays. Clipboards, Display Links or Name Tags change the displayed text, a Wrench cycles the display mode, and some modes support more characters and multiple lines.[5]
Struts, trusses and gratings
The Girder Strut spans a gap between two anchor points and can be placed at different angles. A strut can only move in 2 axes at the same time, so it cannot bend.[5]

Lights and chairs
The Headlamp can be dyed and placed multiple times in the same block. Right-click with an empty hand to toggle whether the lightbulb is always on, regardless of redstone power. For ComputerCraft setups, the setLamp peripheral function has a maximum range of headlampCCBlockRange blocks, which is 32 in the pack.[5][6]

Wooden cogwheel handling
The mod can swap the wood type of any wooden cogwheel, including ones from addons. To avoid duplicates, compatabilityOptions.suppressExternalWoodenCogwheels is on in the pack, so wooden cogwheels from other mods, such as Create: Encased, are suppressed in favour of the mod's own system.[1][3]
How do you progress through Create: Bits 'n' Bobs?
5 parts
Bits 'n' Bobs adds building blocks, lighting and a few mechanical parts on top of Create. This section orders them by how much their in-pack recipes ask of you, from simple stone blocks up to parts that need more of Create.[4]
Stage 1: stone tiles and chairs
Tiles come first in this order. Each stone type has a tile variant, such as Andesite Tiles, Asurine Tiles and Calcite Tiles. In this pack they come from stonecutting recipes, and the same stonecutting route also gives you the slab, stairs and wall versions directly.[4]

If you already have tiles, crafting gets you the shapes too. One andesite tile block makes 6 slabs, 4 stairs or 6 walls, and two slabs can be turned back into a tile.[4]

Chairs are just as simple. They come in many colours, for example Black Chair, and each colour also has a second recipe that recolours an existing chair with dye.[4]

Stage 2: lighting
Lighting is the next small step. One craft gives you 3 Lightbulb, and the Headlamp is made from those bulbs, with one craft giving 2 headlamps.[4]

The Chain Pulley is made by item application on a Create rope pulley, so you need that pulley first.[4]
Stage 4: recipes the pack changed
Several metalwork and display items have recipes the pack changed, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. These are:[4]
- Metal Truss: one craft makes 8.[4]
- Cable Girder Strut: one craft makes 6.[4]
- Nixie Board: one craft makes 8.[4]
- Large Nixie Tube: one craft makes 4.[4]
- Industrial Grating and Industrial Grating Panel: both are stonecut from iron, giving 3 gratings or 6 panels per cut.[4]
- Cogwheel Chain Carriage: its recipe was also changed by the pack.[4]

Final stage: rotation parts
The rotation parts build on Create's own cogwheels and casings. The Flanged Cogwheel and Large Flanged Cogwheel each start from the matching Create cogwheel, and the Flywheel Bearing needs Create parts too, as the recipes below show.[4]
The flanged cogwheel is made from a Create cogwheel.

How does Create: Bits 'n' Bobs work with other mods?
3 parts
Create: Bits 'n' Bobs is a Create addon, so nearly all of its connections to other mods are Create items showing up in its recipes. There is also one link to the pack's own materials mod: Iron Plate appears in several of the recipes below. The sources list no other mod crossovers.[1][4]
Kinetic blocks built on Create parts
The Flanged Cogwheel and the Large Flanged Cogwheel are the mod's flanged takes on Create's Cogwheel and Large Cogwheel. Both are mod recipes, unchanged by the pack, and you can see them below.[1][4]
Crafting Shapeless

The Chain Pulley is a variant of Create's Rope Pulley, and the recipe is a Create item application recipe, so you upgrade the pulley itself rather than crafting from scratch.[1][4]

Recipes the pack changed
Several recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's standalone behaviour for them. These are the ones that bring in Create items or the Iron Plate from the pack's materials mod:[4]
- Cable Girder Strut: the recipe makes 6 and uses Create's Andesite Alloy.[4]
- Large Nixie Tube: the recipe makes 4.[4]
- Nixie Board: the recipe makes 8.[4]
- Metal Truss (shown in game as Metal Truss): the recipe makes 8 and uses Iron Plate.[4]
- Cogwheel Chain Carriage: uses Create's Andesite Casing along with Iron Plate.[4]

Which Create: Bits 'n' Bobs config options matter?
4 parts
Good news first: every server setting in this pack's Bits 'n' Bobs config that shows a mod default is left at that default. The pack hasn't changed any of those values, so what you read here is also what the mod does out of the box. The main pack-specific details are which features are switched on or off.[6]
Cogwheel chain drives
- cogwheelChainDriveCostFactor is 1 (mod default 1). It multiplies how many chains a cogwheel chain needs. The minimum cost is always 1 chain unless you set it to 0, and it doesn't change the chains returned by existing chain drives.[6]
- cogwheelMaxBounds is 64 (mod default 64, range 1 to 256). It caps the bounds of a chain drive, and the config warns that large values may cause undefined behaviour.[6]
- cogwheelMaxNodeCount is 64 (mod default 64, range 1 to 256). It caps the number of nodes in a single chain.[6]
- featureFlags.behaviours.undedicatedCogwheelChainDrives is true, so you can build chain drives on components that aren't flanged. featureFlags.blocks.flangedChainDrives is also true, so flanged cogwheels work for chain drives too.[3]
Flywheel bearing
The featureFlags.blocks.flywheelBearing flag is true, so the block is available. However, flywheelBearingStorageCapability is false in this pack. That means the bearing is not set up as kinetic storage (a battery). The config describes that storage feature as in development and disabled in feature flags by default.[3][6]
Because storage is off, the other flywheel options only matter if you turn it on. flywheelMaxRpmFactor is 0.25 (mod default 0.25), which multiplies Create's maxRotationSpeed (default 256) and gives 64 RPM. flywheelStorageFactor is 1 (mod default 1), and flywheelTransferCapacityPerAngularMass is 5 (mod default 5).[6]
Headlamp range
headlampCCBlockRange is 32 blocks (mod default 32, range 1 to 128). It sets the maximum range of the CC peripheral setLamp function. Lamp coordinates must be within [3 - blockRange * 2, blockRange * 2].[6]
Feature flags and compatibility
Almost every block and behaviour flag in the common config is true in this pack. The one block I can see switched off is the legacy Brass Lamp, via featureFlags.blocks.brassLamp. Use the Headlamp or Lightbulb instead; both flags are on.[3]
- featureFlags.behaviours.dyeablePipes and featureFlags.behaviours.dyeableTanks are both true, so you can dye fluid pipes and fluid tanks.[3]
- compatabilityOptions.suppressExternalWoodenCogwheels is true. It suppresses wooden cogwheels from other mods in favour of Bits 'n' Bobs' own behaviour system, and it was intended for Create: Encased.[3]
- Decorative and utility blocks such as featureFlags.blocks.chairs, featureFlags.blocks.chainPulley, featureFlags.blocks.nixieBoard and featureFlags.blocks.largeNixieTube are all enabled.[3]
What changed in Create: Bits 'n' Bobs between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Create: Bits 'n' Bobs 2.3.2, and the mod was already in the pack by version 1.0.3 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
Changes in the mod's own changelogs
- 2.3.2 (the version in this pack): fixed chain drive behaviour overriding gears n kinetics behaviour, and added a missing lang entry for the message shown when a chain fails to be added by using it on other types of cogwheel. It also restored a deprecated old signature of a chain rendering method to avoid a crash with bits n tracks.[7]
- 2.2.9: fixed encasing chain cogwheels deleting the chain.[8]
- 2.2.7: flanged cogwheel encased rendering was redone.[9]
- 2.2.5: reduced the NeoForge version requirement.[10]
- 2.2.3: internal refactors to the dye system, and a fix for DnDecor item models not being corrected.[11]
- 2.2.2: added a proper incompatibility warning for an incompatible TMFG version, fixed a mixin issue when loading without an optional compat, and potentially fixed cogwheel material and fluid dying mechanics not working.[12]
- 0.0.44: fixed girder struts and cogwheel chain drives in schematics.[13]
