What is Create Aeronautics: Mekanism Compatibility?

2 parts

This is a small add-on that makes Mekanism blocks behave properly when they are mounted on Create Aeronautics / Sable contraptions. It adds no machines of its own. It fixes how Mekanism blocks work while they ride on a moving contraption.[1]

What it fixes

  • Teleporters work out their mounted target positions and energy cost from projected world coordinates.[1]
  • Dimensional Stabilizers keep their chunk tickets aligned with the moving contraption.[1]
  • Transmitters and pipes support configurator targeting, side selection and visual state updates while mounted.[1]
  • Wind Generators use projected height and sky checks while mounted.[1]
  • Digital Miners scan, display queued targets, chunk-load scan targets and mine from projected world coordinates.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships version 0.1.21 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

If you build airships or other flying contraptions and want to put Mekanism gear on them, this mod is what makes that work. You don't need to craft or configure anything for it.[1]

How do you get started with Create Aeronautics: Mekanism Compatibility?

2 parts

Good news first: there's nothing to craft here. This mod adds no items of its own. It's a compatibility layer that makes Mekanism machines behave properly when they sit on a Create Aeronautics / Sable contraption, so your first steps are really about knowing what works on a moving ship.[1]

What works on a moving contraption

Once you've got the Mekanism machines you want, you can mount them on a ship. The mod fixes these cases:[1]

  • Teleporters resolve their mounted target positions and energy cost from projected world coordinates.[1]
  • Dimensional Stabilizers keep their chunk tickets aligned with the moving contraption.[1]
  • Transmitters and pipes support configurator targeting, side selection and visual state updates while mounted.[1]
  • Digital Miners scan, display queued targets, chunk-load scan targets and mine from projected world coordinates.[1]
  • Wind Generators can use projected height and sky checks while mounted, but see the warning below.[1]
Watch out: In this pack, mounted_mekanism.enableMountedWindGenerator is set to false. That option is what makes a Wind Generator use the projected world position for its sky and height checks inside Sable sub-levels, so don't count on that fix being active here.[3]

If you mount a Digital Miner

mounted_mekanism.enableMountedDigitalMiner is true in the pack, so Digital Miners inside Sable sub-levels can scan and mine from the ship's projected world position.[3]

The pack leaves the miner limits at the mod's own values. mounted_mekanism.digitalMinerMaxTicketChunks is 25, which covers a radius-30 miner's horizontal scan footprint, and mounted_mekanism.digitalMinerMaxTargetQueue is 32768 queued targets.[3]

Other mounted fixes are switched on too: mounted_mekanism.enableMountedDimensionalStabilizer, mounted_mekanism.enableMountedTeleporterTargets, mounted_mekanism.enableMountedLasers and mounted_mekanism.enableMountedMachineSounds are all true.[3]

How does Create Aeronautics: Mekanism Compatibility work?

3 parts

This mod doesn't add new machines. It patches Mekanism blocks so they keep working when they sit on a Create Aeronautics / Sable contraption. Everything below is about how Mekanism behaves once it's mounted on a moving ship, and every option lives in the server config.[1][3]

What gets fixed on a moving ship

The core idea is coordinate projection. A block on a ship lives in a sub-level with its own plot coordinates, while the world around it uses global coordinates. The mod translates between the two so Mekanism's checks use the ship's real position in the world.[1][3]

  • Teleporters: mounted target positions and the energy cost are worked out from projected world coordinates. The destination is projected out of the sub-level into global coordinates, controlled by mounted_mekanism.enableMountedTeleporterTargets, which is on in this pack.[1][3]
  • Dimensional Stabilizers: their chunk tickets are projected from sub-level plot coordinates into the moving global chunk grid, so the loaded chunks follow the contraption. The toggle is mounted_mekanism.enableMountedDimensionalStabilizer, on in this pack.[1][3]
  • Lasers: ray hits and beam particles stay in the correct coordinate space when they cross a sub-level boundary. The toggle is mounted_mekanism.enableMountedLasers, on in this pack.[3]
  • Machine sounds: distance checks are Sable-aware inside mounted sub-levels. The toggle is mounted_mekanism.enableMountedMachineSounds, on in this pack.[3]
  • Transmitters and pipes: configurator targeting, side selection and visual state updates keep working while mounted. The sources show no config toggle for this one.[1]

Digital Miner on a ship

With mounted_mekanism.enableMountedDigitalMiner enabled (it is in this pack), a Digital Miner inside a Sable sub-level scans and mines from the ship's projected world position. It also displays its queued targets and chunk-loads the scan targets.[1][3]

The mod limits how much work a mounted Digital Miner does with the settings below. In this pack, each of them is set to the same value as the mod default.[3]

Tip: If you build a miner bigger than radius 30, the chunk ticket limit of 25 is the setting that was sized for radius 30. Check it before you wonder why scan targets aren't staying loaded.[3]

Wind Generators are switched off

The mod can make Wind Generators use the projected world position for their sky and height checks inside Sable sub-levels. In this pack, though, mounted_mekanism.enableMountedWindGenerator is set to false, so that fix is not active.[1][3]

Watch out: Don't count on a mounted Wind Generator getting height-based output from the ship's real position in this pack. The projection option is off in the server config.[3]

Which Create Aeronautics: Mekanism Compatibility config options matter?

2 parts

All of this mod's settings live in one file, mounted_mekanism.enableMountedDigitalMiner is just the first of them, and every option sits under the mounted_mekanism section. They control how Mekanism machines behave when you mount them on Sable sub-levels, meaning your Create Aeronautics ships.[1][3]

Feature toggles

Each feature listed below has its own on/off switch. This pack leaves them on except the Wind Generator one.[3]

Watch out: The Wind Generator option is the one toggle this pack turns off. When it is on, the Wind Generator uses the projected world position for its sky and height checks inside Sable sub-levels. With it set to false here, don't count on the mod's mounted height and sky handling for Wind Generators on your ship.[1][3]

Digital Miner performance limits

The numeric options all tune how hard a mounted Digital Miner works the server. The pack keeps every one of them at the mod default, so you get the stock behaviour.[3]

Tip: If a big mounted miner causes lag, the scan budget and the scan time budget are the options that limit how much work each scan pass does. Remember that this pack ships them at the mod defaults, so any change is your own tweak.[3]

What changed in Create Aeronautics: Mekanism Compatibility between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with version 0.1.21 of this mod. It was first included in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[2]

0.1.21

This is the version your pack runs, and the mod's own changelog lists these changes:[2][4]

  • Fixed targeting and tracking for the mounted Mekanism portable teleporter on Sable sublevels.[4]
  • Fixed the visual state sync of mounted Mekanism transmitters, tanks, cables and pipes after Sable assembly and toggling.[4]
  • The Digital Miner, Dimensional Stabilizer, Wind Generator, lasers and machine sounds stay Sable-aware.[4]
  • Removed the hard metadata dependencies on Create and Aeronautics. Sable is still required.[4]
  • Removed the internal debug and GameTest harness from production builds.[4]

If you build contraptions with Mekanism machines or pipes mounted on Sable structures, the first two fixes are the ones you will notice most.[4]
