What is Construction Sticks?
2 parts
Construction Sticks is all about making building much faster. Hold a Construction Stick in your hand and you can extend blocks in any direction with just one click. That is a big time saver when you are putting down walls, floors or bridges across your sky islands.[1]
The sticks can also take upgrades. The pack's quest book gives one example: an upgrade that makes a stick use power instead of durability.[1]
Version in the pack
This pack ships Construction Sticks 1.5.0, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the modpack.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The quest book covers the mod in "Faster Building" quest, called Faster Building. It lives in the Useful Items & Tips chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book and holds 30 quests.[1]
That chapter opens with a Tips & Tricks quest explaining that it is full of useful items and tips for your playthrough. Other building helpers sit alongside Construction Sticks there, such as "Building Gadgets" quest and "Framed Blocks" quest.[1]
How do you get started with Construction Sticks?
5 parts
Construction Sticks let you extend a row or column of blocks with a single click, which saves a lot of time when you're building on sky islands. The pack's quest book covers it in the "Faster Building" quest "Faster Building" quest, in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips" (chapter 2 of 31). Hold a stick in your hand and you can extend blocks in any direction with one click.[1]
Step 1: Make the Stickiest Stick
Start with the Stickiest Stick. It uses the mod's own recipe, so it's the same here as anywhere else. It has a durability of 59, so treat it as a trial run to learn the controls.[3][4]

Step 2: Move up to a Copper Stick
The Copper Stick is the next tier, with 131 durability. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[3][4]

Step 3: Iron, then the later tiers
The Iron Stick has 250 durability, and the pack changed its recipe. The Diamond Stick (1,561 durability) and the Netherite Stick (2,031 durability) come later, and the pack changed their recipes too. Those durability numbers match the mod defaults. All three recipes are shown below.[3][4]

Step 4: Add upgrades
Upgrades come from templates. You put the template, your stick and the required item together in a Smithing Table. Every stick tier is upgradeable in this pack's server config.[4][5]
A good first upgrade is the Battery Template. It lets the stick use energy instead of durability. The pack changed this template's recipe, so check it below.[1][3][5]

The Angel Stick Template lets you place a block in mid-air, with the block you want to place in your offhand. The pack also changed this recipe. That makes it handy when you're starting a new island out in the void.[3][5]

Good to know early
- Undo has your back. The pack keeps 3 operations of undo history, set by misc.UndoHistory. Hold the bound undo key while looking at the blocks to see your last placement outlined in green.[4][5]
- Blocks in your offhand are placed instead of the block you're looking at.[5]
- Shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can supply the building blocks for the stick.[5]
- Blocks from Chisels & Bits, Mekanism and Waystones can't be placed by a stick. They're on the block entity blacklist in blockentity.BEList.[4]
How does Construction Sticks work?
6 parts
Construction Sticks is all about one item family: you pick a stick, point it at a building, and it extends that building for you. There are five tiers: the Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. A stick places blocks on the side of the building facing you, and each tier has its own limits and durability.[5]
Placing blocks
There are a few modes you can switch while holding a stick, either with the bound keys (Toggle Restriction, Toggle Direction, Toggle Random) or from the option screen (Open Stick Options). Here is what each one does.[5]
- Restriction: cycles through Horizontal, Vertical, North/South, East/West and No lock. Horizontal and Vertical build a column in front of the original block, North/South and East/West build a row on top of it, and No lock extends from any side.[5]
- Match: Exact only extends blocks that are exactly the same. Similar treats related blocks, like dirt and grass types, as equal.[5]
- Random: when on, the stick places random blocks that are present in your hotbar.[5]
- Replace: when on, the stick replaces certain blocks like fluids, snow and tallgrass.[5]
- Direction: blocks can be placed facing the player, or with the same direction as the target block.[5]
- Offhand priority: if you hold blocks in your offhand, the stick places those instead of the block you are looking at.[5]
- Containers: shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can supply building blocks to the stick.[5]
Undo
Hold the Show Previous key while looking at blocks and the last blocks you placed get a green border. Press the Undo Operation key while looking at any of them to undo that operation and get your items back. If you used the destruction upgrade, undo restores the destroyed blocks. In this pack misc.UndoHistory is 3, so that is how many operations you can undo.[4][5]
Upgrades
Upgrades are applied in a Smithing Table: put the upgrade template, your stick and the required item together. To switch between installed upgrades, press the Toggle Upgrade key while holding the stick or use the option screen. Every tier has its upgradeable option set to true in this pack, for example iron_stick.upgradeable.[4][5]
- Angel Stick Template: places a block on the opposite side of the block (or row of blocks) you are facing. Right click empty space to place a block in midair, with the block you want to place in your offhand. Maximum distance depends on the stick tier.[5]
- Destruction Stick Template: destroys blocks (not block entities) on the side facing you. The maximum number of blocks depends on the tier. Destroyed blocks disappear into the void, so use undo if you slip.[5]
- Replacement Stick Template: swaps blocks for the type you hold in your offhand, handy for replacing walls after placement.[5]
- Unbreakable Template: lets you place blocks without using durability, so the stick never breaks.[5]
- Battery Template: makes the stick use stored energy instead of durability.[5]
The pack changed some of these recipes. The battery upgrade and destruction upgrade smithing recipes shown below are marked as changed by the pack, and so are the crafting recipes for the copper, iron, diamond and netherite sticks. The angel, replacement and unbreakable upgrade recipes for the copper and diamond sticks, and the crafting recipe for the unbreakable template, are the mod's own. Here are two examples of the pack's versions.[3]

Durability
Without the unbreakable or battery upgrade, a stick spends durability as it places blocks. Each tier has its own durability option, and in this pack they all match the mod defaults:[4][5]
- wooden_stick.durability is 59.[4]
- copper_stick.durability is 131.[4]
- iron_stick.durability is 250.[4]
- diamond_stick.durability is 1,561.[4]
- netherite_stick.durability is 2,031.[4]
Battery power
With the battery upgrade, the stick stores energy and spends it per block instead of durability. How much it can hold depends on the tier, and again the pack uses the mod defaults:[4][5]
- wooden_stick.batteryStorage is 5,000.[4]
- copper_stick.batteryStorage is 10,000.[4]
- iron_stick.batteryStorage is 25,000.[4]
- diamond_stick.batteryStorage is 100,000.[4]
- netherite_stick.batteryStorage is 200,000.[4]
The per-block cost is set by the batteryUsage option, for example netherite_stick.batteryUsage, which is 10 and matches the mod default. Every tier uses the same value in this pack.[4][5]
Pack-wide limits
- misc.MaxRange is 100 here (0 means unlimited). It affects all sticks and is meant for lag prevention, not game balancing.[4][5]
- blockentity.BEList holds chiselsandbits, mekanism and waystones, and blockentity.BEWhitelist is false. So the list works as a blacklist: blocks from those mods can't be placed by a stick.[4][5]
- misc.SimilarBlocks decides what Similar mode treats as equal. The pack's group is dirt, grass block, coarse dirt, podzol, mycelium, farmland, dirt path and rooted dirt.[4][5]
- misc.AngelFalling is false in this pack. If it were on, falling more than 10 blocks with the angel upgrade would place blocks below you, which can save you from drops or the void.[4][5]
The same values appear in both the server and the startup config files, so the numbers above hold whichever one you check.[4][6]
How do you progress through Construction Sticks?
3 parts
The pack's quest book covers Construction Sticks in one quest, "Faster Building" quest (Faster Building), in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book. The quest says that while you hold a stick you can extend blocks in any direction with one click. It also mentions upgrades you can add, such as making the stick use power instead of durability.[1]
The stick tiers
The sticks come in these materials: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The Stickiest Stick uses the mod's own recipe. The pack has changed the recipes for the Copper, Iron, Diamond and Netherite sticks, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

A shortcut to the Iron Stick
You can also get an Iron Stick without crafting it. The pack's script for the Wandering Trader replaces the trader's offers, and one of them sells an Iron Stick for a Bamboo Tiki Torch. That offer can only be used 1 time. The pack's before_cobble trade list also has an entry that swaps a Stick for an Iron Stick.[7][8]
Template upgrades
Upgrades come from templates. You craft a template first, then apply it to a stick with a smithing upgrade recipe. These are the templates and where their recipes come from:[3]
- Angel Stick Template: the pack changed this recipe.[3]
- Battery Template: the pack changed this recipe.[3]
- Destruction Stick Template: the mod's own recipe.[3]
- Replacement Stick Template: the mod's own recipe.[3]
- Unbreakable Template: the mod's own recipe.[3]

Every template has a smithing upgrade recipe for every stick material, from the Stickiest Stick up to the Netherite Stick. Each of those recipes gives back the same stick item you put in, so templates are add-ons to a stick rather than a step up to the next material. The pack changed the Battery and Destruction upgrade recipes for all stick materials, while the Angel, Replacement and Unbreakable ones are the mod's own.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Construction Sticks?
2 parts
Construction Sticks has one quest in this pack, and it sits in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips". That is chapter 2 of 31 in the quest book, and it holds 30 quests about handy items and tips from many different mods.[1]
Faster Building
The quest is "Faster Building" quest. It introduces Construction Sticks as a mod all about making the building process much faster, and it asks for item tasks.[1]
The quest text explains the core idea: while you hold a Construction Stick in your hand, you can extend blocks in any direction with just one click. It also mentions upgrades you can add to the Sticks, for example making a Stick use power instead of durability.[1]
Unverified The exact items that the Faster Building quest asks for are not named in the quest data available here, so check the quest in your book to see them.
Other building quests nearby
The same chapter has other building helpers you may want to compare with the Sticks. "Building Gadgets" quest covers the gadgets from Building Gadgets, and "Framed Blocks" quest covers Framed Blocks for custom shapes and textures. "Placing Blocks In The Air" quest is about starting a brand new sky island.[1]
The chapter data does not show a required order for the Faster Building quest, and it lists no prerequisite for it. The only quest in the chapter with a listed prerequisite is "Air Dash" quest, which comes after "Proper Materials". So you can treat Faster Building as an item quest to pick up whenever you reach this chapter.[1]
Which Construction Sticks config options matter?
3 parts
Good news first: every numeric Construction Stick setting in this pack matches the mod default. The pack file marks each of them as "mod default" with the same value, so you get the stock stick balance. The same values appear in both the server config and the startup config.[4][6]
Stick tiers at a glance
- Durability (wooden_stick.durability and its siblings): wooden 59, copper 131, iron 250, diamond 1,561, netherite 2,031.[4][6]
- Destruction block limit (wooden_stick.destruction and siblings): wooden 1, copper 3, iron 9, diamond 25, netherite 81. Setting it to 0 disables the destruction upgrade for that stick.[4][6]
- Angel upgrade placement distance (wooden_stick.angel and siblings): wooden 1, copper 2, iron 4, diamond 8, netherite 16. Setting it to 0 disables the angel upgrade for that stick.[4][6]
- Battery storage (wooden_stick.batteryStorage and siblings): wooden 5,000, copper 10,000, iron 25,000, diamond 100,000, netherite 200,000.[4][6]
Unverified The file lists limit values of 3, 9, 27, 128 and 1,024 from wooden to netherite, and a batteryUsage of 10 for every stick. The comments beside limit and batteryUsage look shifted against their names, so exactly what each one controls is not confirmed here.
Global settings
- misc.MaxRange is 100, the mod default. The file says it affects all sticks and is meant for lag prevention, not balancing, and that 0 means unlimited.[4][6]
- misc.UndoHistory is 3, the mod default, so you can undo the last 3 operations.[4][6]
- misc.AngelFalling is false. When enabled, the angel upgrade places blocks below you after a fall of more than 10 blocks, which can save you from drops or the void. In this pack it is off. The file gives no mod default for this option, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[4][6]
- misc.SimilarBlocks makes Similar mode treat these blocks as equal: dirt, grass block, coarse dirt, podzol, mycelium, farmland, dirt path and rooted dirt.[4][6]
Upgrades and block entities
Every stick tier has its upgradeable option set to true (for example netherite_stick.upgradeable). That means you can combine a stick with a stick upgrade in a smithing table.[4][6]
For blocks that hold data, blockentity.BEList holds chiselsandbits, mekanism and waystones. blockentity.BEWhitelist is false, so that list works as a blacklist, and the sticks will not place blocks from those three mods. The file shows no mod default for these two options, so I can't say whether the pack changed them.[4][6]
