What is Collapsible Groups?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.21.1 guide
Collapsible Groups is part of this pack. The pack ships version 1.2.3 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since 1.17.0 or earlier.[1]
Unverified The sources I have only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. They don't describe what it does, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There's no confirmed recipe, config option or quest for it here, so I'm not going to guess at any of that.
How do you get started with Collapsible Groups?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going with Collapsible Groups. It works inside your JEI ingredient list, folding lookalike items (colored blocks, variants and so on) into expandable groups so the list stays tidy. Nothing in the sources I have shows an item or recipe for it, so this section is about the buttons and settings you'll use first.[2]
Step by step
- Open JEI and look at the ingredient list overlay. Grouped entries show a +/- indicator, and expanded groups get a connected border around them.[2]
- Click the group manager button in the overlay. Its tooltip reads "Manage Collapsible Groups". This is where you manage groups.[2]
- If you can't see that button, the manager button setting in the mod's UI options may be switched off. That option controls whether the button shows in the JEI overlay. The sources don't say what the pack sets it to.[2]
- When you edit a group, hover over variants and follow the on-screen hints. A plain click adds or removes an item, Ctrl-click adds, removes or selects all variants, and you can also drag to add the variants you hover over.[2]
Built-in groups
The mod ships with built-in default groups. A master switch covers all built-in default groups, and setting it to false gives you a completely clean slate with no default groups. Separate toggles cover vanilla groupings (wool, concrete, colored glasses and so on) and generic cross-mod groups (potions, enchanted books, music discs and so on).[2]
There are also per-mod integration toggles for AE2, Apotheosis, Chipped, Chisel, EnderIO, Iron's Apothic, Iron's Spellbooks, Macaw's series, RS2 and Rechiseled. Groups for mods that aren't installed are always skipped, so a toggle for a mod you don't have does nothing.[2]
Tweaking how it looks and searches
In the UI settings you can change the group name color and the background colors for collapsed and expanded groups. Colors accept formats like #AARRGGBB, 0xAARRGGBB or AARRGGBB. You can also turn off the semi-transparent group backgrounds. The +/- indicator and borders stay visible when you do.[2]
Search has its own behavior too. When only a few children of a group match your search, the mod can show them as regular JEI entries instead of a group header. The threshold setting controls this. With a value of 5, groups with 2-4 matching entries are left ungrouped, and 0 disables the behavior.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show which of these options the pack changes from the mod's defaults, or which config file they live in. Check the in-game config screen to see the values this pack actually uses.
How does Collapsible Groups work?
6 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Here's the thing to know up front: the sources describe Collapsible Groups as an organizer for the JEI item list, and they don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling for it. What they do show is that it folds similar entries into groups so the ingredient panel stays readable in a big pack.[2]
Unverified The sources say nothing about machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for this mod, and no config files or pack-specific changes were available. Treat the details below as the mod's described behavior, not as confirmed pack values.
How groups behave in JEI
Groups show up as headers in the JEI ingredient list. Left-click a header to expand it, and left-click again to collapse it. Grouped slots can draw a semi-transparent background tint, and you get a +/- indicator and a connected border around expanded groups.[2]
If you find the tint distracting, you can turn the group backgrounds off. The +/- indicator and borders stay visible, and only the background becomes fully transparent. The mod also has color settings for collapsed headers, expanded headers and their children, the expanded border and the group names.[2]
The group manager
The manager button sits in the JEI ingredient list overlay, and its tooltip reads "Manage Collapsible Groups". It can be hidden in the interface settings. The manager lists your groups, and you scroll to browse them.[2]
Not every group can be edited. Built-in groups and KubeJS groups are read-only, so they can't be deleted and, as the tooltip puts it, cannot be switched currently. If you want to tweak one, use the manager's option to copy it as a custom editable group.[2]
Built-in default groups
The mod ships default groups, and a master switch covers the built-in default groups. Turning it off gives you a completely clean slate with no default groups. There are also separate toggles for vanilla groupings (wool, concrete, colored glass and so on) and for generic cross-mod groups (potions, enchanted books, music discs and similar).[2]
There is also a mod-integration toggle, with a separate switch for each supported mod. Groups for mods that are not currently installed are always skipped, so a toggle for a missing mod has no effect. The sources name these integrations:[2]
- AE2, RS2 and EnderIO groups, each loaded only if that mod is installed.[2]
- Apotheosis groups, plus Iron's Apothic gem groups (one group per gem type), each loaded only if that mod is installed.[2]
- Iron's Spellbooks scroll groups (one group per spell), loaded only if that mod is installed.[2]
- Block-variant groups for Chipped, Chisel Modern and Rechiseled, each loaded only if that mod is installed.[2]
- Macaw's series block-tag groups, which only apply if at least one supported Macaw's mod is installed.[2]
Making your own groups
The editor's hints say you can click or drag to add and remove entries, with separate hints for variants, entries and fluids. Ctrl-click adds, removes or selects all variants at once. Clicking a variant can also switch the selection to only that variant.[2]
Groups can be built from rules, and the editor describes these rule kinds:[2]
- Match by exact ID, by namespace (everything from a mod), or by tag.[2]
- Match by block tag, which the editor describes as matching block items for that tag.[2]
- Match by ID path: contains, starts with or ends with some text.[2]
- Match by data: an exact encoded item stack, an item that has a given data component, or a component path equal to an expected value.[2]
- Combine conditions with all (matches when every child condition matches), any (matches when any child matches) or not (inverts its child condition).[2]
The editor's search tooltip says the box searches in names and IDs. Start with @ to search by mod, # to search by tag, or $ to search in tooltips.[2]
The editor's settings describe the group ID as being for KubeJS script references. A group also has a priority, where higher values claim overlapping items and sort ahead in the JEI panel, so priority matters when two groups could grab the same item.[2]
Search behavior
While you filter JEI, small matching groups can be shown as regular entries instead of a group header. That saves you a click when only a few children match. A group is left ungrouped when its matching child count is lower than the setting. A value of 5 leaves groups with 2-4 matching entries ungrouped, and 0 disables the behavior.[2]
Debug options
There are a few diagnostics settings. Timing logs write Collapsible Groups timings to the game log, which the tooltip says is useful when diagnosing slow JEI startup, group rebuilds or editor and manager refreshes. Two verification options compare the startup index and the editor preview index against a reference implementation. The startup check is described as slower and useful for correctness testing.[2]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as collapsible_groups, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
