What is Waystones?
2 parts
Waystones lets you teleport around the world without commands. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and then you can come back to them whenever you like. It's a great fit if you hate long walks back to base.[1]
There are three ways to activate a waystone and return to it. You can use a Warp Scroll, use a rechargeable Warp Stone, or hop from one existing waystone to another.[1]
What the mod gives you
- Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global waystones, which can be made available to all players. That's handy for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory, so you can warp without any extra items. It's configurable.[1]
- A waystone structure that can appear in villages.[1]
The mod works in Survival Mode, on Adventure Maps and on multiplayer servers. It's meant as an alternative to /warp and /home commands, so it suits solo play and shared servers alike.[1]
In this pack
This pack ships Waystones 21.1.24, a NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]
You meet it early. The quest a quest in "?" in the "the_beginning" chapter has a task involving the Warp Stone, and it unlocks after quest 6CADA41796D0F7F9.[3]
Unverified The sources don't say whether this pack changes any Waystones recipes or config values, or whether the inventory teleport button is enabled. Check the in-game config before you rely on either.
How do you get started with Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones lets you teleport between waystone blocks you've activated, so your first goal is a way to activate them and a way to get back. In this pack the whole chain starts with one item: the Warp Stone.[1][4]
First: make a Warp Stone
The Warp Stone is rechargeable, and it can activate waystones for you. You use it by holding right-click to charge it up. It also shows up in the pack's quests: a quest in "?" in The Beginning chapter has a task for it, so crafting one early gets you progress as well.[1][3][5]

Next: craft your first Waystone
Next, make a Waystone and place it at your base. Once it's activated, you can come back to it from other waystones.[1][4]

There are also Mossy, Sandy, Deepslate, Black and Ender variants: Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone and Ender Waystone.[4]
Then: scrolls for quick trips
Scrolls are the cheap, portable option. The Warp Scroll can activate a waystone, and it has a charge-up time while you hold right-click.[1][5]

Later: Warp Plates and Sharestones
Once the basics are running, a Warp Plate is your next step. You stand on top of it for a set time to teleport. The Dormant Shard and Warp Dust have recipes of their own, shown after the plate.[4][5]

Sharestones link to each other by colour. For example, a Black Sharestone teleports you to any other Black Sharestone. Every dye colour has its own recipe.[4][5]

Worth knowing
The mod can have an inventory button for warping without extra items, and it can also apply XP costs and cooldowns to teleports. Which of these are turned on in this pack, and how much anything costs, is not confirmed in the sources I have.[1][5]
How does Waystones work?
7 parts
Waystones is a teleport network. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and then hop back to them later. Activation can happen through a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to jump from one to another. When you activate one, the game tells you with an "Activated Waystone" message.[1][5]
Who can see and edit a waystone
In this pack, general.defaultVisibility is set to ACTIVATION. Setting it to GLOBAL would make newly placed or found waystones global instead. general.allowedVisibilities is empty here, and its description says you add "GLOBAL" to it to let every player create global waystones.[6]
The default visibility option also lists TEAM, SHARD_ONLY and one visibility per sharestone colour (for example BLUE_SHARESTONE and BLACK_SHARESTONE). The sources don't explain how each of those behaves, so check in game before you rely on them.[6]
general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER in this pack. Its description says that value allows edits only by the owner of the waystone. Anyone else who tries gets the message "Only the owner may edit this waystone."[5][6]
Ways to travel
Each travel method has its own use time in the pack. Scrolls and the warp stone are charge-up items, so you hold right-click. A warp plate works by standing on it.[6]
- Warp Scroll: general.scrollUseTime is 32 ticks of holding right-click.[4][6]
- Warp Stone: general.warpStoneUseTime is also 32 ticks of holding right-click.[4][6]
- Warp Plate: general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you have to stand on top of it.[4][6]
If the waystone you tried to teleport to is currently being moved or has gone missing, the game tells you so.[5]
Here is how the Warp Plate is crafted:[4]

The Warp Stone sits in the recipes of every waystone variant, and the sources count it as the only item from this mod used as an ingredient across the waystone recipes. Here are the stone and the basic waystone:[4]

Costs and cooldowns
Both teleports.enableCosts and teleports.enableCooldowns are false in this pack. Their descriptions say that false disables all XP costs and all cooldowns, so those options add no cost or cooldown to your teleports here. The warp requirement rules are still written into teleports.warpRequirements, and they are applied in order if you ever switch the options on.[6]
- Travel within one dimension adds an XP cost scaled by distance, using a factor of 0.01.[6]
- Travel between dimensions adds a flat XP cost of 27.[6]
- Leaving from a warp plate, or travelling to a global waystone, multiplies the cost by 0, so it is free.[6]
- The cost is clamped between 0 and 27.[6]
- Using the inventory button adds a cooldown of 300 on the inventory_button entry.[6]
teleports.enableModifiers is true in this pack. Its description says this enables warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports. The sources don't name those items, so they aren't covered here.[6]
Taking mobs with you
- teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs teleport with you, even between dimensions.[6]
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so nearby pets stay behind.[6]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither. Per its description, entities on that list can't be teleported as pets, leashed, or on warp plates.[5][6]
The inventory button
inventoryButton.inventoryButton controls an optional warp button in your inventory. NONE means no button. NEAREST teleports you to the nearest waystone. ANY opens the waystone selection menu. A waystone name teleports you to that specific waystone. In this pack the value is an empty string.[6]
Wild waystones and naming
Waystones generate in the world on their own. In this pack, worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, an approximate chunk distance between them (0 would disable generation). They are allowed in the overworld, the Nether and the End through worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList. The deny list is empty and is only used when the allow list is empty.[6]
worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so the look of a wild waystone depends on the biome it generates in. The other choices are DEFAULT, MOSSY, SANDY, BLACKSTONE, DEEPSLATE and END_STONE. Village generation is REGULAR through worldGen.spawnInVillages, so waystones appear in some villages, but only in vanilla or supported ones.[6]
Names come from worldGen.nameGenerationMode, which is PRESET_FIRST. That mode uses names from the presets first, but worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty here. The template worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator. {Biome} is the other supported placeholder.[6]
Map integrations
BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap support are all switched on in this pack. BlueMap and Dynmap get markers for waystones and sharestones, and JourneyMap gets a waypoint for each activated waystone. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the mod JourneyMap Integration is not installed.[6]
How do you progress through Waystones?
4 parts
Waystones keeps its progression simple in this pack. Everything hangs off the Warp Stone. The pack's quest chapter The Beginning has a quest (a quest in "?") with an item task for the Warp Stone, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. So the quest book points you at this item first.[3]
The Warp Stone
Here is the recipe. The recipe dump labels it as the mod's own recipe, and nothing in the sources shows the pack changing it.[4]

Waystones
The basic Waystone is the next step up. It is a shaped craft built around a Warp Stone.[4]

The pack also has themed Waystone variants. Each one has its own recipe and also needs a Warp Stone. Pick whichever matches your base:[4]

The Mossy Waystone is the odd one out because it has extra recipes. One crafts it from scratch. The others are shapeless recipes that turn a normal Waystone into a mossy one, using a moss block or a vine, so you can convert a Waystone you already own.[4]

Portstones and Sharestones
Portstones and Sharestones come in a version for each dye color. The white Portstone is called Portstone, and the other colors follow the same pattern, such as Red Portstone and Red Sharestone. The recipes below show the exact in-pack crafts for each family.[4]

Scrolls and the Warp Plate

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Waystones?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Waystones shows up in only one place in the quest book: the "the_beginning" chapter. The sources show no other chapters in this pack that involve the mod.[7]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the quest book. Its task is an item task for the Warp Stone.[7]
The quest is not the first one in the chapter. It unlocks only after you finish an earlier quest in "the_beginning", so you'll reach it as part of the early progression.[7]
Unverified The sources don't show the quest's rewards, how many Warp Stones it asks for, or whether the item is handed in or just checked. Look at the quest in-game for those details.
Which Waystones config options matter?
7 parts
Everything below comes from the pack's config/waystones-common.toml. These are the values this pack actually ships, so check them before assuming the mod's normal behavior.[6]
Teleport costs and cooldowns
- teleports.enableCosts is false, which the file describes as disabling all XP costs.[6]
- teleports.enableCooldowns is false, which disables all cooldowns.[6]
- teleports.enableModifiers is true, so warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports are enabled.[6]
The file still carries a full teleports.warpRequirements list, applied in order. It adds an XP cost scaled by distance at 0.01 for same-dimension trips and a flat 27 for interdimensional ones. Warp plate sources and global targets are multiplied to 0. The cost is clamped between 0 and 27, and inventory-button teleports add a cooldown of 300.[6]
Who and what can teleport
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind.[6]
- teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs teleport with you, even across dimensions.[6]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, so the Wither can't be teleported.[6]
Use times
- general.scrollUseTime is 32 ticks of holding right-click.[6]
- general.warpStoneUseTime is also 32 ticks of holding right-click.[6]
- general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on the plate.[6]
Visibility and editing
general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION. general.allowedVisibilities is empty, and the file says to add GLOBAL to that list to let every player create global waystones. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, meaning only a waystone's owner can edit it.[6]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones.[6]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones appear in some villages.[6]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in.[6]
- worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[6]
- worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, but worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty. worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[6]
Inventory button
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string. The file documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a specific waystone name, but doesn't say what an empty value does. The button sits at X 58 and Y 60 in the inventory, set by inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX and inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY.[6]
Map integrations
compatibility.blueMap and compatibility.dynmap are both true, and each adds markers for waystones and sharestones to its own map. compatibility.journeyMap is true as well, so JourneyMap waypoints are created for each activated waystone. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so those JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the JourneyMap Integration mod isn't installed.[6]
