What is Waystones?
3 parts
Waystones is a teleportation mod. It adds waystone blocks that you can return to once they've been activated. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop from one to another.[1]
The pack ships Waystones 21.1.42 for NeoForge 1.21.1. That's the version this guide describes.[2]
What it adds
- Craftable waystones, warp plates and warp scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global waystones, handy for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory.[1]
- A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]
Who it's for
It works in survival, on adventure maps and on multiplayer servers. It's meant as an alternative to /warp and /home commands, so it suits you if you want fast travel between your bases without commands. The mod can make waystones available to all players. It can also offer a configurable inventory button that warps you without any extra items.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Waystones shows up early. The quest "Fast Travel" quest in the "the_beginning" chapter has an item task for the Warp Stone, and it unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[3]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether the pack enables the inventory teleport button, makes waystones global, or changes any recipes or configs for this mod. Check the in-game config before you rely on any of those.
How do you get started with Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones lets you return to waystone blocks once you've activated them. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop over from another one. Here's the order to make things in.[1]
Make a Warp Stone first
The Warp Stone comes first because it's an ingredient in the Waystone recipe, and it's also a rechargeable way to warp. In this pack it uses the normal mod recipe. Crafting one is also a task in quest "Fast Travel" quest in The Beginning chapter.[1][3][4]

Craft your first Waystone
Next, craft a Waystone and place it at your base. Its recipe uses a Warp Stone, which is why you made one first. Once it's activated, you can come back to it later.[1][4]

If you want a different look, there are other styles such as the Mossy Waystone and the Deepslate Waystone. Each has its own recipe and also uses a Warp Stone.[4]
Add a Warp Scroll
A Warp Scroll is another way to activate a waystone and warp, so it's a good companion to the Warp Stone.[1][4]

Teleporting without items
The mod also offers a configurable inventory button for warping without any extra items. It can be set to open the waystone selection menu, to teleport to the nearest waystone, to teleport to a specifically named waystone, or to be turned off.[1][5]
How does Waystones work?
7 parts
Waystones is a teleport network rather than a machine mod, so there is no power, fluid or item piping to set up. The whole system is about activating waystones, choosing who can see them, and picking how you travel between them. Once a waystone is activated, you can return to it using a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from an existing waystone to another one.[1]
Activation and visibility
Touching a waystone activates it for you and tells you its name. New waystones start out with the visibility general.defaultVisibility set to ACTIVATION, which means a player only sees a waystone after activating it. Setting that option to GLOBAL would make newly placed or found waystones global by default. In this pack it is ACTIVATION.[5][6]
The waystone settings screen offers more visibility modes: visible upon activation, visible to everyone, and visible only to sharestones of a given colour. Sharestones come in many dye colours. If no sharestone matches, the game tells you there are no matching Sharestones to teleport to. Making a waystone global is restricted: general.allowedVisibilities is empty in this pack, and the config says you add GLOBAL to it to let every player create global waystones.[5][6]
Editing is locked down too. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, so only the owner of a player-placed waystone can edit it. Anyone else gets a message saying only the owner may edit it.[5][6]
Ways to travel
Scrolls and the Warp Stone are charged up by holding right-click. In this pack general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks. If you stop holding the item, or move too far away from the waystone you started at, the teleport is cancelled.[5][6]
A scroll has to be bound before it works. Unbound scrolls tell you they are not bound to a waystone, and bound ones show which waystone they point to.[5]
Warp Plates work differently: you stand on one instead of holding an item. general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on top. general.warpPlateCooldownTime is 20 ticks, which is how long an entity must be off a target plate before it can teleport from that plate again. A plate has to be bound to another warp plate through the shard inside it. If the plate is unbound, or the shard loses its attunement, you get a message instead of a teleport.[5][6]
There is also a Warp Portal block. The game reports when a portal cannot open because there is no space, and when a portal closes because its target was destroyed.[5]
The waystone menu
The selection screen lists the waystones you have activated. You can sort them by distance, by name or manually, and drag them to reorder. Double-click moves one to the top, and shift-double-click moves it to the bottom. Personal settings let you set an alias, a favourite flag and a group for each waystone. You can also hide waystones and create your own groups. Deleting a global waystone from the menu removes it for everyone, so the screen warns you first.[5]
The inventory button is controlled by inventoryButton.inventoryButton. Its config describes these settings: NONE for no button, NEAREST to teleport to the nearest waystone, ANY to open the selection menu, or a waystone name to go to that specific waystone. The pack's value is an empty string, and the sources do not say how an empty value behaves.[6]
Costs, cooldowns and durability
The pack has teleports.enableCosts and teleports.enableCooldowns both set to false. Their descriptions say that false disables all xp costs and all cooldowns, and that teleports.warpRequirements gives finer control. That list is still filled in, and it is applied in order:[6]
- Same-dimension teleports add an xp cost scaled by distance at 0.01.[6]
- Interdimensional teleports add an xp cost of 27.[6]
- Teleports from a warp plate, to a global waystone, or to a fleeting memorial multiply the cost by 0.[6]
- The cost is clamped between a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 27.[6]
- Teleports from the inventory button add a cooldown of 300.[6]
teleports.enableDurability is true, so warp stones lose durability when used. teleports.enableModifiers is also true, which turns on warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports. The waystone settings screen has a Manage Modifiers button and shows how many modifiers are active.[5][6]
Taking mobs along
teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you, even between dimensions. teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so pets stay behind. teleports.entityDenyList contains only the wither, which cannot be teleported, whether as a pet, leashed or on a warp plate.[6]
Crafting the key items
Almost everything in the mod hangs off the Warp Stone, which is an ingredient in the waystone variants, portstones and sharestones. Warp Dust is the other building block, and it is used for Dormant Shards.[4]

Wild waystones and map markers
Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks (worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones) in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Their style depends on the biome, and they spawn in some villages (REGULAR). New waystones are named with the default name generator, using the template {MrPork}. Preset names are used first, but the preset list is empty in this pack.[6]
Waystones can show up on maps. BlueMap markers are on for waystones and sharestones, but off for undiscovered waystones. Dynmap markers are on. JourneyMap waypoints are on for each activated waystone, but are only created if the mod JourneyMap Integration is not installed.[6]
How do you progress through Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones in this pack doesn't have a long tier ladder. The path is short: craft a Warp Stone, then use it to make waystones, portstones and sharestones. Scrolls and a few extras sit alongside that and don't need one.[4]
Where the quest book puts it
The quest "Fast Travel" quest in the "the_beginning" chapter has an item task for the Warp Stone. It unlocks after another quest in that same chapter.[3]
The Warp Stone
The Warp Stone is the key ingredient for the blocks below. Here is the in-pack recipe:[4]

Warp Dust is a separate, simpler item. It leads to the Dormant Shard and then the Warp Plate, and none of those need a Warp Stone.[4]
Waystones
With a Warp Stone in hand, you can make the base Waystone.[4]

The other waystone styles are separate recipes that each use a Warp Stone too. They are the Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Muddy Waystone, Black Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Ender Waystone, Nether Waystone, Prismarine Waystone and Purpur Waystone.[4]
The Mossy Waystone also has extra shapeless recipes that start from a regular Waystone.[4]
Portstones and Sharestones
Both of these come in dye colors and are crafted with a Warp Stone plus a dye. Here are the Portstone (the white one) and the Red Sharestone as examples. The other colors follow the same pattern with a different dye.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Waystones?
Waystones shows up in only one place in the quest book: the "the_beginning" chapter. The sources show no other chapters in this pack that involve the mod.[3]
The quest is "Fast Travel" quest, and it has no title in the quest book. Its task is an item task for the Warp Stone.[3]
The quest is not the first one in the chapter. It unlocks only after you finish an earlier quest in "the_beginning", so you'll reach it as part of the early progression.[3]
Unverified The sources don't show the quest's rewards, how many Warp Stones it asks for, or whether the item is handed in or just checked. Look at the quest in-game for those details.
Which Waystones config options matter?
6 parts
Everything here lives in config/waystones-common.toml. Below are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values this pack ships.[6]
Costs, cooldowns and use times
- teleports.enableCosts and teleports.enableCooldowns are both set to false. The config describes false as disabling all XP costs and all cooldowns.[6]
- teleports.enableDurability is true, so warp stones still lose durability. teleports.enableModifiers is also true, so warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleport are enabled.[6]
- general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks. That's the charge-up while you hold right-click.[6]
- general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate. general.warpPlateCooldownTime is 20 ticks, which is how long an entity must be off a target warp plate before it can teleport from that plate again.[6]
The pack also sets teleports.warpRequirements. Non-interdimensional trips add an XP cost scaled by distance at 0.01, and interdimensional trips add 27. The cost is multiplied by 0 when the source is a warp plate, when the target is global, and when the target is a fleeting memorial. The cost is clamped between 0 and 27. Using the inventory button adds a cooldown of 300.[6]
Who and what comes along
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind.[6]
- teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs teleport with you.[6]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, which can't be teleported as a pet, leashed, or on warp plates.[6]
Visibility and ownership
general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION. general.restrictedWaystones is ["PLAYER"], which means only the owner can edit a waystone they placed.[6]
Inventory button
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string. The config documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY, or a waystone name as values, so an empty string isn't one of the documented modes. The button's position is set by four separate options:[6]
- inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX is 58.[6]
- inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY is 60.[6]
- inventoryButton.creativeInventoryButtonX is 88.[6]
- inventoryButton.creativeInventoryButtonY is 33.[6]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. Setting it to 0 disables generation.[6]
- worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the overworld, the Nether and the End.[6]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones spawn in some villages.[6]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so the look depends on the biome it generates in.[6]
- worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, but worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty. worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[6]
Map integrations
The BlueMap integration is on via blueMap.enabled. Waystones and sharestones get markers, while blueMap.includeUndiscoveredWaystones is false. compatibility.dynmap and compatibility.journeyMap are both true. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is true too, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the JourneyMap Integration mod isn't installed. compatibility.fixVanillaTeleportBug is false.[6]
What changed in Waystones between versions?
5 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Waystones 21.1.42, and Waystones has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. The mod's own changelogs below cover the releases from 21.1.32 up to the one you have. I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so this is only the mod's side of the story.[2]
21.1.42 (the version in this pack)
- Added a button to hide waystones if they can't be deleted.[7]
- Fixed a custom reach distance being ignored in distance validity checks.[7]
- Fixed warp modifiers not being applied to waystones.[7]
- Fixed a crash when rendering warp requirements that have no renderer.[7]
21.1.38
- Added an enableDurability option (default: true) to disable durability loss on warp stones. That is the mod's default, and I can't confirm from these sources whether the pack changes it.[8]
- Fixed an occasional crash caused by corrupt entity tracking.[8]
- Backported a Vanilla bugfix for entity teleportation, to hopefully make non-player teleports and mounted teleports more stable. It stops entities from being tracked when teleported from a loaded chunk into another loaded chunk, and Vanilla fixed it in 1.21.2+. Waystone-initiated teleports get the fix automatically.[8]
- Added an enableVanillaBugfix option (default: false) that applies the same fix to all other entity teleports, like /tp or other mods.[8]
- Fixed passengers being able to trigger teleports on warp plates independently of their mount.[8]
21.1.34
- Fixed activation visibility incorrectly showing up on Sharestones.[9]
21.1.33
- Fixed distance being displayed wrongly in the waystone selection and the /waystones list command.[10]
- Data packs: added a has_structure/deepslate_waystone tag and generation logic. Waystones still won't generate in the Deep Dark, because the default placement modifier doesn't support it. Using these tags is at your own risk, and the changelog recommends something like Lithostitched to add waystone generation to other biomes.[10]
- Data packs: fixed the waystones:waystone placement modifier only respecting dimension ceilings in the Nether, with the same disclaimer as above.[10]
