Iron Jetpacks is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 8.0.11. A fully customizable Forge Energy (FE) based jetpacks mod! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Iron Jetpacks adds jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE), so they work with the energy systems from other mods. The pack includes version 8.0.11 of the mod.[1][2]

It's for you if you want to leave the ground and fly around your base or world. The mod comes with a set of default jetpacks made from a mix of vanilla and modded materials, and every jetpack stat is configurable. You can even add your own jetpack types.[1]

What you get

  • Throttle controls, so you can change your aerial movement speed on the fly.[1]
  • A built-in HUD that shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats.[1]
  • Curios support, so you can equip a jetpack as a Curio.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The mod shows up in the "useful_items_tips" quest chapter. There, quest "Jetpacks" quest has a task that asks for a Jetpack.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say which jetpack tiers this pack offers, how they are crafted, or whether the pack changed any jetpack stats from the mod's defaults. Check in-game before you plan around specific numbers.

How do you get started with Iron Jetpacks?

4 parts

Welcome to jetpacks! Iron Jetpacks is a Forge Energy (FE) based jetpack mod, so every jetpack you build runs on FE. Here is what the pack lets you craft first, with the exact in-pack recipes shown below.[1]

Leather Strap

The Leather Strap is the simplest item of the mod, so it makes a good first craft. Here is the in-pack recipe:[4]

The coils, from Basic to Ultimate

The coils come in tiers: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. Their recipes are the mod's own and the pack has not changed them. Start with the Basic Coil and work your way up as you get the materials.[4]

Getting your first jetpack

The pack adds its own shapeless recipe, made with KubeJS, that turns Creative Ascension into a Jetpack. It is not part of the mod itself.[4]

JetpackAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:creative_jetpack

The pack also has a quest, "Jetpacks" quest, in the "useful_items_tips" chapter. Its task is to obtain a jetpack.[3]

Once you have one

Hover over the jetpack to see its stats in the tooltip. They include horizontal speed, vertical acceleration, hover ascend and descend speed, and the sprint fuel and vertical modifiers.[5]

While you fly, the built-in HUD shows your energy, engine, hover and throttle stats. You can use the throttle controls to change your aerial speed on the fly. The mod also supports equipping the jetpack as a Curio.[1]

How does Iron Jetpacks work?

4 parts

Iron Jetpacks has no machines or multiblocks to build. The whole mod is about wearable jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE), and each jetpack's stats are fully configurable. So the core mechanics are the numbers behind each jetpack, and this section walks through the ones this pack sets.[1]

Power and tiers

Every jetpack is defined by its own JSON file in the pack's Iron Jetpacks config folder. Energy is handled by the keys capacity and usage (the stone file is just an example, every jetpack has the same keys). Each file also has a tier, and these are the values this pack sets:[1][6]

  • Wood: tier 0, capacity 20,000, usage 32.[7]
  • Stone: tier 1, capacity 100,000, usage 70.[6]
  • Copper: tier 1, capacity 250,000, usage 85.[8]
  • Iron: tier 2, capacity 800,000, usage 120.[9]
  • Bronze: tier 2, capacity 800,000, usage 120, the same as iron.[10]
  • Silver: tier 2, capacity 1,200,000, usage 150.[11]
  • Gold: tier 3, capacity 10,000,000, usage 300.[12]
  • Electrum: tier 3, capacity 10,000,000, usage 310.[13]
  • Invar: tier 3, capacity 12,000,000, usage 350.[14]
  • Steel: tier 3, capacity 12,000,000, usage 350.[15]
  • Diamond: tier 4, capacity 30,000,000, usage 650.[16]
  • Platinum: tier 4, capacity 36,000,000, usage 720.[17]
  • Emerald: tier 5, capacity 48,000,000, usage 880.[18]
  • Creative: tier -1, capacity 0, usage 0, and the creative flag is set to true.[19]

The pattern is simple: better materials mean a bigger energy buffer, but the usage value climbs with it, so a high-tier jetpack drains faster than a low-tier one.[7][18]

Flight behaviour

You control your speed on the fly with throttle controls, and the built-in HUD shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats. Hold a jetpack and its tooltip lists Horizontal Speed, Hover Ascend Speed, Hover Descend Speed, Vertical Acceleration, Sprint Fuel Modifier and Sprint Vertical Multiplier.[1][5]

The config has matching keys for these, such as speedVertical, speedSideways and speedHoverAscend. Vertical speed grows with tier: 0.18 on wood, 0.25 on stone, 0.41 on iron and 1.03 on emerald. The hover descend speed is 0.25 in every jetpack file this pack ships.[6][7][9][18][19]

Sprinting is where the tiers really separate. Stone has sprintFuelMulti and sprintSpeedMulti both at 1. Iron uses 2.1 for fuel and 1.1 for speed. Emerald uses 4 for fuel and 2 for speed, with a vertical sprint multiplier of 1.5.[6][9][18]

The hover value (the speedHover key) generally gets smaller as materials get better: 0.14 on wood, 0.03 on gold and 0 on emerald.[7][12][18]

Wearing and protecting your jetpack

Curios support is on in this pack (General.curiosIntegration is true), and the jetpack files shown above all have their curios key set to true, so you can equip a jetpack as a Curio. Enchanting is off: General.enchantableJetpacks is false.[1][6][9][18][20]

Jetpacks also carry armor points. That is 1 for wood, 2 for stone, 3 for iron and 4 for emerald, diamond and platinum, while toughness and knockback resistance are 0 in each of these files.[6][7][9][16][17][18]

Crafting parts

The pack leaves the default recipes switched on for jetpacks, thrusters, capacitors and energy cells (Recipe.jetpacks, Recipe.thrusters, Recipe.capacitors and Recipe.cells are all true). The mod's own crafted parts are the Leather Strap and the coils:[4][5][20]

How do you progress through Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks progression in this pack is built around coils, climbing from the Basic Coil to the Advanced Coil, then the Elite Coil and finally the Ultimate Coil. You work up the ladder by getting the materials for the next tier, and each recipe is shown below.[4]

The quest

The pack has a single quest for this mod, "Jetpacks" quest, in the useful_items_tips chapter. Its task is to obtain a Jetpack. It doesn't walk you through the individual tiers, so you set your own pace up the coil ladder.[3]

The pack's shortcut

The pack adds its own shapeless recipe that turns Creative Ascension into a jetpack. This is not part of the mod's defaults, so you won't see it in other modpacks.[4]

JetpackAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:creative_jetpack

How does Iron Jetpacks work with other mods?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks only has one recipe link to another mod's content in this pack, so this section is short. The mod itself runs on Forge Energy (FE), which is why jetpacks can work with the energy systems of other mods.[1][4]

Pack-added jetpack recipe

The pack adds its own shapeless recipe through KubeJS that produces an Jetpack from an item in the pack's own ftb namespace. This is a pack change, not something the mod does by default. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[4]

JetpackAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:creative_jetpack

Unverified The recipe dump lists the output only as the generic jetpack item, so which specific jetpack type you get from this recipe is not confirmed here. Check the rendered recipe or the in-game result. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Quest tie-in

The quest "Jetpacks" quest in the useful items and tips chapter has a task that uses the Jetpack item. It is the only quest in the sources that mentions this mod.[3]

Energy and Curios

The mod's project page says jetpacks are powered by Forge Energy for broad mod compatibility. It also says jetpacks can be equipped as a Curio. The sources don't show which energy sources or Curios slots are available in this pack, so test that in your own world.[1]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Iron Jetpacks?

Iron Jetpacks only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: "useful_items_tips". There is a single quest there that involves the mod, so there is no long questline to follow and no order to worry about.[3]

The quest is "Jetpacks" quest, and it has no title in the quest book. Its task is an item task asking for the Jetpack.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say what the quest rewards, what it requires you to complete first, or which jetpack tier it accepts, so check the quest in-game before you plan around it.

Which Iron Jetpacks config options matter?

4 parts

Iron Jetpacks keeps its settings in a client file for the HUD and effects, a common file for gameplay toggles, and one JSON file per jetpack tier. Here is what this pack sets, so you know where to look when you want to tweak something.[10][20][21]

HUD and effects (client)

The HUD is on through HUD.enable and sits in position 1, which is Middle Left, set by HUD.position. The animation speed (HUD.animationSpeed) is 0.1 and both offsets (HUD.offsetX and HUD.offsetY) are 0. Those values match the mod defaults. The HUD does not draw over the chat, because HUD.showOverChat is false.[21]

Tip: If the HUD is in your way, change HUD.position. The values are 0 = Top Left, 1 = Middle Left, 2 = Bottom Left, 3 = Top Right, 4 = Middle Right and 5 = Bottom Right. You can fine-tune it with the offset options.[21]

Stat tooltips (General.advancedTooltips), jetpack particles (General.jetpackParticles) and jetpack sounds (General.jetpackSounds) are all enabled. Turn off particles or sounds if you want less noise and fewer effects while flying.[21]

Gameplay toggles (common)

Per-jetpack stats

Each jetpack has its own JSON file with keys such as capacity, usage, tier and the various speed values. Capacity and usage tell you how long a tank lasts, so here is how this pack sets them, from the lowest capacity to the highest.[7][10]

  • Wood: capacity 20,000 and usage 32 (capacity, usage).[7]
  • Stone: capacity 100,000 and usage 70.[6]
  • Copper: capacity 250,000 and usage 85.[8]
  • Iron and bronze: both have capacity 800,000 and usage 120.[9][10]
  • Silver: capacity 1,200,000 and usage 150.[11]
  • Gold: capacity 10,000,000 and usage 300. Electrum has the same capacity with usage 310.[12][13]
  • Invar and steel: both have capacity 12,000,000 and usage 350.[14][15]
  • Diamond: capacity 30,000,000 and usage 650.[16]
  • Platinum: capacity 36,000,000 and usage 720.[17]
  • Emerald: capacity 48,000,000 and usage 880.[18]
  • Creative: capacity is 0, usage is 0 and creative is true. It also has no crafting material.[19]
