What is Hooked?
3 parts
Hooked adds grappling hooks as a replacement for creative flight. The idea is that they are faster, easier to use and more fun than jetpacks or creative flight. This pack includes Hooked 2.0.3.[1][2]
How it plays
- Hooks have no firing arc, so you don't need to line up every shot.[1]
- A hook pulls you toward it with a constant force, so there is no swinging to deal with.[1]
- You don't hold an item. Hooked is a trinket/curio bound to a key, so it's always ready.[1]
- Hooks have no durability, and your mining speed is unimpaired while using one, in the air or underwater.[1]
- Hooks are simulated almost entirely client-side, like normal movement, so a laggy connection shouldn't cause much trouble.[1]
Hook variants
- Wood hook: not great, but better than nothing in the super early game.[1]
- Iron hook: pretty good and not too expensive.[1]
- Diamond hook: the best general-purpose hook in the mod. It offers multiple hooks at a middle-of-the-road speed.[1]
- Ender hook: a diamond hook sidegrade that is very fast, which makes it great for clutches in the Nether or with an Elytra.[1]
- Redstone hook: the other diamond hook sidegrade. It gives full creative flight within the region bounded by the hooks, which makes it a good fit for builders.[1]
Who it's for
Hooked is for anyone who wants quick, low-effort movement, from your first night in a world to exploring the Nether. Builders can use the Redstone hook for bounded creative flight.[1]
Hooked also supports datapacks for custom hook types, including their attributes, textures and models.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show where Hooked fits in this pack's progression. They also don't show any quests or an ATM Star path involving the mod, so don't count on either. The in-pack recipes for the hooks aren't confirmed here either.
How do you get started with Hooked?
4 parts
Hooked adds grappling hooks meant to replace creative flight. Hooks have no firing arc, pull you toward them with a constant force, and have no durability, so you can use them freely. You don't hold one in your hand either: it's a trinket/curio bound to a key, so it's ready the moment you need it.[1]
The hooks form an upgrade chain, so you'll craft them in order. Here's the path.[3]
First: the Wooden Hook
Start with the Wooden Hook. It's not great, but it's better than nothing in the very early game, and it gets you used to how hooks move you. This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[1][3]

Next: the Iron Hook
Next comes the Iron Hook, which the project page calls pretty good and not too expensive. The pack changed this recipe, so follow the recipe below rather than any default you may remember.[1][3]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.
Then: the Diamond Hook
The Diamond Hook is the best general-purpose hook in the mod. It offers multiple hooks at a solid middle-of-the-road speed. The pack changed this recipe too, and it builds directly on the Iron Hook, so don't throw your old one away.[1][3]

Finally: pick a sidegrade
Once you have a Diamond Hook, you can turn it into one of two sidegrades. Both recipes use the Diamond Hook as an ingredient and are the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[1][3]
- Ender Hook: very fast, which makes it perfect for clutches in the Nether or with an Elytra.[1][3]
- Redstone Hook: gives you full creative flight within the region bounded by the hooks. It's the one to pick for building.[1][3]

How does Hooked work?
4 parts
Hooked is a grappling hook mod, and that's all the sources describe. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to cover here. The mechanics come down to how the hooks behave and how you upgrade them.[1]
How hooks behave
- Hooks have no firing arc, so you don't need to line up every shot.[1]
- A hook pulls you toward it with a constant force, so there's no swinging to deal with.[1]
- You don't hold anything. The hook is a trinket/curio bound to a key, so it's ready the moment you press it.[1]
- Hooks have no durability, so you can use them freely.[1]
- Your mining speed is completely unimpaired while hooked, in the air or underwater.[1]
- Hooks are simulated almost entirely client-side, much like normal movement, so a laggy connection shouldn't cause much trouble.[1]
Hook variants
Each hook fills a different role, from your very first night to bounded creative flight.[1]
- Wooden Hook: not great, but better than nothing in the super early game.[1][3]
- Iron Hook: pretty good for its cost.[1][3]
- Diamond Hook: the best general-purpose hook in the mod. It offers multiple hooks at a middle-of-the-road speed.[1][3]
- Ender Hook: a diamond hook sidegrade that is very fast. It's great for clutches in the Nether or with an Elytra.[1][3]
- Redstone Hook: the other diamond hook sidegrade. It gives you full creative flight within the region bounded by the hooks, which is the mod's answer for builders.[1][3]
Upgrade path in the pack
The wooden hook is crafted on its own. Every other hook builds on the one before it: the iron hook goes into the diamond hook, and the diamond hook goes into both the ender hook and the redstone hook. Because the ender and redstone hooks are sidegrades, you can make either one from a diamond hook.[1][3]

Custom hooks
The mod supports datapacks for custom hook types, including all attributes, custom textures and custom hook models. The sources don't show whether this pack adds any custom hooks.[1]
How do you progress through Hooked?
4 parts
Hooked progression in this pack is an upgrade ladder. You start with the Wooden Hook and work up through the Iron Hook and Diamond Hook. From the Diamond Hook you branch into the Ender Hook or the Redstone Hook.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quests for Hooked, so any questbook guidance for these tiers is unverified. The order below comes from the recipes alone.
Starting out: Wooden Hook
The Wooden Hook is the entry point. It uses the mod's own recipe, which the pack leaves as it is.[3]

Recipe id: hooked:wood_hook
This is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.
Next step: Iron Hook
The pack changed the recipe for the Iron Hook, so don't rely on the mod's default. In this pack it is crafted from its own set of materials rather than by upgrading the Wooden Hook.[3]

Then: Diamond Hook

Top end: Ender Hook or Redstone Hook
Both top-tier hooks are built on the Diamond Hook, and both use the mod's own recipes, which the pack leaves as they are. The Ender Hook and the Redstone Hook are separate branches, not steps in a line, so you can make either one or both.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Hooked?
I can only point you to one quest chapter in the data for this pack: Ars Nouveau, in the Magic Mods group (chapter 22 of 41 in the book, 62 quests). Its task items use the ars_nouveau namespace, plus one item from the ars_elemental namespace in the Marks of Mastery quest. None of the task items listed there use the hooked namespace, so that chapter gives you no Hooked quest to follow.[4]
Unverified Whether Hooked is asked for in any other chapter of the pack's quest book, or sits on the ATM Star quest path, is told in the quest book itself. The sources here do not show it, so no Hooked quests or order are listed.
What changed in Hooked between versions?
3 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Hooked 2.0.3 (the NeoForge build). The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
2.0.3 (the version in this pack)
- The Redstone Hook item tooltip now explains its controls more clearly.[5]
- Error handling was added so an exception while ticking hooks can no longer effectively brick a save.[5]
2.0.2
- Fixed an exploit that allowed unlimited creative flight by corrupting the red hook's bounding region.[6]
- The red hook's bounding box is now harder to corrupt.[6]
2.0.1
- Jump assist is more reliable and feels better. It won't reduce your jump height below the default.[7]
- A couple of texture inconsistencies were fixed.[7]
- A missing damage type check was fixed. It had made the player immune to all damage while using a hook.[7]
- Coplanar redstone hooks no longer sometimes cause errors when ticking the player.[7]
- Swapping hooks by right-clicking the hook item was added, but the changelog lists it as a Fabric change. This pack uses the NeoForge build, so don't count on it here.[2][7]
