What is Farming for Blockheads?

Farming for Blockheads is part of the pack as version 21.1.10, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

The mod's main item in the pack's quests is the Market. The quest a quest in "?" has an item task for it and sits in the cooking and brewing chapter. So the pack places the Market alongside its food and brewing progression.[2]

Tip: If you're working through the cooking and brewing chapter, the Market is the item that quest asks for, so keep it in mind as you go.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't show a recipe for the Market, any pack changes to the mod's configs, or how it fits into the ATM Star path, so none of that is covered here. The quest is also untitled in the quest data, so I can't say more about what it expects from you.

How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

Farming for Blockheads is about getting your farm to do more of the work for you. A sensible order in this pack is the Market first, then fertilizer for your crops, then the animal helpers.[2][3][4]

Start with the Market

The Market is the first block to make. The pack's quest book has a quest for it in the cooking_and_brewing chapter, a quest in "?", and its task is to have a Market. Here is the in-pack recipe:[2][3]

This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.

The recipe dump also lists Market trades for Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer. The sources here do not show what those trades cost, so check the prices in the Market itself.[3]

Add fertilizer for your crops

Fertilizer is the next step once you have crops growing. Each type does something different, and fertilized farmland can turn back into regular farmland as it hands out its bonuses.[4]

Watch out: The pack changed the crafting recipes for Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Yellow Fertilizer uses the mod's own recipe. The recipe blocks below show what this pack uses.[3]

Look after your animals

With crops going, you can take care of livestock too. The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens.[3][4]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?

4 parts

Farming for Blockheads is a small mod with a few jobs: a shop for farming goods, automatic animal feeding, egg collection and fertilizer for your crops. Here is how each part works in this pack, as far as the sources explain it.[3][4]

The Market and the Merchant

The Market is a block with its own screen. The screen shows a cost for the offer you pick, and reads "No Selection" until you choose one. The mod also adds a Merchant entity.[4]

The pack's recipe data lists Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer as Market offers, each with no item inputs listed.[3]

The mod has settings for merchants. One is a list of names the merchant can have. Another is called Treat Merchants like Babies. When it is on, merchants count as babies on a technical level only, which may resolve exploits based on merchant death loot (like blood).[4]

Automating animals

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. Animals must be within its range to be fed. It also has a maximum number of animals per type, and once that is reached it stops feeding.[4]

The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It picks up laid eggs within a set range, and a mod setting controls that range.[4]

Unverified The actual values for the Feeding Trough range, the Feeding Trough max animals and the Chicken Nest range are not shown in the sources here, because no config file for this mod is available. Check the in-game config screen for them.

Fertilizer

Green Fertilizer increases crop output, and the mod has a Green Fertilizer Bonus Crop Chance setting for the chance to get a bonus crop. Red Fertilizer has a matching Red Fertilizer Bonus Growth Chance setting for the chance to get a bonus growth.[4]

Fertilized Farmland does not last forever. The Fertilizer Regression Chance setting is the chance, per provided bonus, that it turns back into regular Farmland.[4]

Crafting fertilizer in this pack

The pack changed the crafting recipes for green and red fertilizer. Each craft makes 4 of them.[3]

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Farming for Blockheads has no strict tier ladder in this pack. Everything starts with the Market, and the other items are crafted when you need them. The pack's quest for this mod sits in the cooking and brewing chapter.[5][6]

The Market

The quest a quest in "?" is untitled, and its task is to obtain a Market. It is the only quest for this mod in the quest sources. The Market uses the mod's own recipe.[5][6]

Animal helpers

The Chicken Nest and the Feeding Trough both use the mod's own recipes in this pack. The quest sources show no quest for crafting them.[5][6]

Fertilizers

The fertilizers are Yellow Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Green Fertilizer. Yellow uses the mod's own recipe. The red and green crafting recipes are changed by the pack, so they may not match what you see in other modpacks.[6]

The Market also has an entry for each of these fertilizers, so you can get them there as well as by crafting. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for these Market entries.[6]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Farming for Blockheads?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Farming for Blockheads shows up in just one quest chapter in this pack: "cooking_and_brewing". There's a single quest there that involves the mod, so this is a short section.[5]

The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is simply to have the Market item.[5]

Unverified The sources don't show where this quest sits in the chapter's order, what it requires first, or what reward it gives, so those details are unconfirmed.
