What is FancyMenu?

3 parts

FancyMenu is a menu customization mod. It lets you personalize Minecraft's menus, from a simple modern look to animated or dynamic elements. It has nothing to do with crafting or machines, because it only changes how the game's screens look and behave.[1]

The pack ships FancyMenu 3.8.1, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]

What it offers

  • A built-in editor that beginners and experienced users can both use to tweak layouts and customize menus.[1]
  • Support for animated image formats like GIF and APNG in your menus.[1]
  • Advanced features for dynamic menus: conditional statements (called loading requirements), variables and placeholders.[1]
  • It works as a pure client-side mod, so you don't need it on a server. It can optionally be installed server-side so admins can remotely open GUIs for players who have FancyMenu on their client.[1]

Who it is for

This one is for you if you want to give your game its own look, for example a custom title screen or menu setup. The project page points to an official documentation site that covers everything from the basics to advanced customization, plus a community Discord with layout templates made by other users.[1]

If you run into crashes or other issues, the project page recommends checking FancyMenu's incompatibility list for mod conflicts.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Unverified The sources I was given don't place FancyMenu on any progression path, quest line or the ATM Star route, and they show no quests involving it. Treat it as a cosmetic, interface-only mod. Which of its optional addons (Drippy Loading Screen, SpiffyHUD, Fancy Entity Renderer) are installed in the pack is also not confirmed.

How do you get started with FancyMenu?

2 parts

FancyMenu doesn't add anything to craft, so there's no first item to make with it. It's a menu customization mod, and getting started means learning what it can do and where its tools are.[1]

FancyMenu lets you restyle Minecraft's menus, from a simple modern look to animated or dynamic elements. It has a built-in editor that beginners and experienced users can both use to tweak layouts and customize menus.[1]

What to know first

  • It works as a pure client-side mod, so you don't need it on a server for your own menus to change.[1]
  • It can optionally be installed server-side too. That lets admins remotely open GUIs for players who have FancyMenu installed on their client.[1]
  • It supports animated image formats like GIF and APNG, so you can put moving images into your menus.[1]
  • Advanced setups can use conditional statements (called loading requirements), variables and placeholders for more dynamic menu designs.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Open the built-in editor and start with a small layout change. This is the easiest way to see how the mod works before you try anything fancy.[1]
  2. Once you're comfortable, look at actions. The mod has actions to open the last screen you had open, close the active screen, and enable or disable a layout by its name.[3]
  3. Try the Audio element actions if you want music in your menus. They can play or pause an element, skip tracks and set its volume.[3]
  4. Use the loading requirements, variables and placeholders only after the basics feel natural.[1]
Tip: The mod's project page points to official documentation, a Discord server and a layout templates channel with full community setups. If you want inspiration, that channel is the place to look.[1]
Watch out: If you hit crashes or odd behavior, the project page recommends checking the mod's incompatibility list for conflicts with other mods.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show any in-pack recipes or quests for FancyMenu, so I can't point you to a first item to craft or a quest to follow. I also can't confirm which FancyMenu addons, such as the loading screen or HUD addons, are installed in this pack.

How does FancyMenu work?

5 parts

Good news and a heads-up, all in one: FancyMenu doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. It's a menu-customization mod, so there's no factory to build with it. What it does have is its own set of systems for building and scripting menus, and that's what this section covers.[1]

Where it runs

FancyMenu works as a pure client-side mod, so you don't need it on a server. It can also be installed server-side as an optional extra, which lets admins remotely open GUIs for players who have it on their client.[1]

The editor and dynamic menus

You change menus visually through a built-in editor, which is made for both beginners and experienced users. For more advanced setups you can add conditional statements (called loading requirements), variables and placeholders, which let a menu change depending on what's going on. It also supports animated image formats like GIF and APNG.[1]

Actions

Buttons and other elements trigger actions. In the action editor you can move an entry up so it runs earlier, or down so it runs later. The move buttons are more precise than drag-and-drop.[3]

The action list in the lang file covers a lot of ground. Here are a few examples of what actions can do.[3]

  • Navigation: open a screen by its identifier (vanilla, modded or custom FancyMenu GUIs), go back to the last screen, close the active screen, join a server or world, or quit the game.[3]
  • Mimicking buttons: copy a button's click action using its widget locator, which you get by right-clicking the button in the editor or with the Debug Overlay enabled.[3]
  • Audio control: skip to the next or previous track, toggle play and pause, or set an Audio element's volume by its identifier. Volume is a value between 0.0 (0%) and 1.0 (100%).[3]
  • Layouts and animators: enable or disable a layout by name, and enable, disable or reset an Element Animator by its identifier.[3]
  • Resource packs: toggle a pack by its display name, or reload resource packs like F3 + T. The reload action can only run once every 5 seconds.[3]

File actions

There are also actions for copying, moving, renaming, deleting, creating and downloading files. For safety they only work inside the game directory, which starts at the root of the Minecraft instance. To reach the default .minecraft directory, start the path with the .minecraft/ prefix. Copy, move and delete support a trailing * that covers every file directly inside a folder and skips sub-directories. Downloads happen asynchronously, so the game keeps running while a file downloads.[3]

What this pack ships

The pack includes one saved audio controller entry, with a volume of 1 and a single element identifier. You'll find it in .[4]

The pack also includes dark and light editor themes. The dark theme has the identifier "dark", and it defines separate colors for the different kinds of action entries. Those are plain actions, if, else-if, else, while, folders and generic blocks, each with its own hover color. For example, the dark theme's plain action entry uses actions_entry_background_color_action.hex, and its if blocks use actions_entry_background_color_if.hex. The light theme has matching entries, such as actions_entry_background_color_if.hex.[5][6]

Tip: The Modrinth page points to the official FancyMenu documentation for the full feature walkthrough. This guide only covers what the pack's own files and the mod's descriptions confirm.[1]

How do you progress through FancyMenu?

The only material available for this mod in this pack is its in-game credits page. It names Keksuccino as lead developer and lists localization, testers and licensing details. It says nothing about tiers, stages or a progression path.[7]

Unverified No pack quests, in-pack recipes or tier breakdown for this mod could be confirmed from the sources, so there is no progression path to describe here. Don't expect to unlock or craft anything with this mod as part of your progression until a source confirms it.

Which FancyMenu config options matter?

2 parts

FancyMenu doesn't have a big list of gameplay settings. The files this pack ships for it are the editor's UI themes and one audio entry. The sources don't show the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these the pack changed. Treat everything below as the values the pack sets, not as confirmed changes.[4][5][6]

UI themes: dark and light

The pack ships two themes for the FancyMenu editor interface. The dark theme has the identifier "dark" and the light theme has the identifier "light". Each one is a long list of color values, written as hex codes.[5][6]

If you only want to know what the editor looks like, these are the main ones. In the dark theme, screen_background_color.hex is #3C3F41FF and element_background_color_hover.hex is #539CD4FF. In the light theme, screen_background_color.hex is #B2B2B2FF and element_background_color_hover.hex is #AFAFAFFF.[5][6]

Tip: Each theme's display_name points to a FancyMenu language key (fancymenu.ui.themes.dark and fancymenu.ui.themes.light), so the names you see in the UI come from the mod's translations. You only need to edit the color keys to recolor the editor.[5][6]

Audio element controller

The file holds a single entry with a volume of 1, tied to one element identifier. That entry is the only audio setting the pack ships for FancyMenu.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say what the mod's default values are, or which of these settings the pack changed, so I can't tell you which colors or volumes differ from a standard FancyMenu install.

What changed in FancyMenu between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.16.0 ships FancyMenu 3.8.1, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been part of Skies 2 from the start or close to it.[2]

FancyMenu has its own changelog entries for 3.5.0, 3.6.0, 3.6.2, 3.6.4, 3.7.0 and 3.8.1. Those are the releases I was given to look at for this guide.[8][9][10][11][12][13]

Unverified The sources only give the titles of those FancyMenu changelog entries, not what changed in each release. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod. So I can't confirm any specific feature, fix or behaviour change between versions, and I'd rather not guess.
