What is Explosive Enhancement: Reforged?
3 parts
Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a purely cosmetic mod. It makes explosions look much cooler by adding lots of new particles whenever one goes off. It doesn't add items, blocks or machines, so there's nothing to craft and nothing to unlock.[1]
It's an unofficial port of the original Explosive Enhancement mod. The pack includes version 1.1.2, in the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
Who it's for
This is for anyone who wants more satisfying visuals when things blow up. It's easy to ignore if you don't care about the look, because it only changes how explosions are drawn.[1]
What you can tweak
- Every particle type can be switched on or off individually.[1]
- You can turn the whole mod off from its config if you don't want the custom explosions.[1]
- There's a special underwater explosion effect, and you can set it up to fill the water with bubbles.[1]
- All settings live in config/explosiveenhancement.toml.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
It's a background visual add-on, so it doesn't gate or affect any progression. It has no recipes of its own for you to follow.[1]
Unverified The mod comes in a client-only version and a client-and-server version. The sources don't say which one the pack ships, so check this before relying on it in multiplayer. The sources also show no quests or progression role for the mod in the pack.
How do you get started with Explosive Enhancement: Reforged?
2 parts
Good news: there's nothing to craft here. Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a simple cosmetic mod that adds many new particles whenever an explosion happens. It's an unofficial Forge port of the original Explosive Enhancement.[1]
The sources I have don't show any recipes or quests for this mod in this pack, and they don't list any items for it. So there's no first item to make and no progression to follow. Your first steps are about the settings.[1]
Your first steps
- Cause an explosion and watch the new particles. Each of them can be enabled or disabled individually.[1]
- Try an explosion underwater. The mod has a special underwater effect that can fill the explosion with lots of bubbles.[1]
- Open config/explosiveenhancement.toml if you want to change anything. That file is where you edit the mod.[1]
- If you'd rather not see the custom explosions at all, you can turn the whole mod off in that same config.[1]
Client and server
The project page describes two versions of the mod. The client-only version is required only on the client. The client and server version is required on both, and it's meant for cases where there are incompatibilities with other client-side mods.[1]
How does Explosive Enhancement: Reforged work?
5 parts
This one is a short section, because Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a simple cosmetic mod. It adds particles when an explosion happens, and the sources describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it. What you can actually control is which effects show up and how they look, and that all happens in the config file.[1]
The master switch
You can turn the whole mod on or off with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]]. It is set to true in this pack. Each particle effect can also be switched on or off separately.[1][3]
Effects you can toggle
In this pack, these surface effects are all enabled:[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showBlastWave]] (blast wave)[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showFireball]] (fireball)[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showMushroomCloud]] (mushroom cloud)[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showShockwave]] (shockwave)[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showSparks]] (sparks)[3]
The default explosion effects are turned off, both with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosion]] and with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosionUnderwater]]. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.alwaysShow]] is false in this pack as well.[3]
Size and look
[[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicSize]] is enabled, which turns on dynamic explosion size. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.attemptBetterSmallExplosions]] is also enabled, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.smallExplosionYOffset]] is -0.5, the same as the mod default. The emissive options [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveExplosion]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveWaterExplosion]] are both on.[3]
Spark appearance uses the mod defaults here. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkSize]] is 5.3, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkOpacity]] is 0.7, which can range from 0.0 to 1.0.[3]
Underwater explosions
The mod has a special underwater effect that can fill the water with bubbles. In this pack, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterExplosions]] is on, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicUnderwater]] is on, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.bubbleAmount]] is 50, which matches the mod default. You can raise it for more bubbles, since any value above 0 is allowed.[1][3]
The underwater blast wave ([[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterBlastWave]]) is on, but underwater sparks ([[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterSparks]]) are off. If you turn them on, they use [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkSize]] at 4 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkOpacity]] at 0.3, both the mod defaults.[3]
Client and server
Unverified Which of the two versions this pack ships is not confirmed by the available sources.
If you need to troubleshoot, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.debugLogs]] enables debug logs. It is off in this pack.[3]
Which Explosive Enhancement: Reforged config options matter?
3 parts
Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a cosmetic mod that adds extra particles to explosions. Everything lives in one file, config/explosiveenhancement.toml. You can turn individual effects on or off, or disable the mod completely with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]], which this pack leaves set to true.[1][3]
Vanilla effects and visibility
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosion]] is false in this pack, and so is [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosionUnderwater]]. The pack doesn't show the default explosion effects, above or below water.[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.alwaysShow]] is false.[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicSize]] is true, and so are [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveExplosion]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveWaterExplosion]].[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.attemptBetterSmallExplosions]] is true, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.smallExplosionYOffset]] is -0.5, which matches the mod default.[3]
Individual particle effects
[[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showBlastWave]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showFireball]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showMushroomCloud]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showShockwave]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showSparks]] are all true in this pack.[3]
The sparks use [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkSize]] 5.3 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkOpacity]] 0.7. Both match the mod defaults.[3]
Underwater explosions
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterExplosions]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicUnderwater]] are both true.[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.bubbleAmount]] is 50, the mod default. The range is anything above 0.[3]
- [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterBlastWave]] is true, but [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterSparks]] is false, so you won't see sparks underwater.[3]
- If you do turn underwater sparks on, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkSize]] is 4 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkOpacity]] is 0.3. Both are mod defaults.[3]
Unverified The pack's file only lists mod defaults for the numeric options, and every one of those matches. It doesn't show defaults for the true/false options, so I can't confirm whether the pack changed any of those from the mod's own settings.
What changed in Explosive Enhancement: Reforged between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Explosive Enhancement: Reforged 1.1.2. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so you've had it for a long time.[2]
Version 1.1.2
- The mod's changelog lists a temporary fix for a client crash caused by the Creeper Head Projectile from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.[4]
The changelog calls it a temporary fix, so treat it as a stopgap rather than a final solution.[4]
