What is Explosive Enhancement: Reforged?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a purely cosmetic mod. It makes explosions look much cooler by adding lots of new particles whenever one goes off. It doesn't add items, blocks or machines, so there's nothing to craft and nothing to unlock.[1]

It's an unofficial port of the original Explosive Enhancement mod. The pack includes version 1.1.2, in the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]

Who it's for

This is for anyone who wants more satisfying visuals when things blow up. It's easy to ignore if you don't care about the look, because it only changes how explosions are drawn.[1]

What you can tweak

  • Every particle type can be switched on or off individually.[1]
  • You can turn the whole mod off from its config if you don't want the custom explosions.[1]
  • There's a special underwater explosion effect, and you can set it up to fill the water with bubbles.[1]
  • All settings live in config/explosiveenhancement.toml.[1]
Tip: If the custom explosions ever clash with another client-side visual mod, the mod's own notes say you can disable it from its config.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

It's a background visual add-on, so it doesn't gate or affect any progression. It has no recipes of its own for you to follow.[1]

Unverified The mod comes in a client-only version and a client-and-server version. The sources don't say which one the pack ships, so check this before relying on it in multiplayer. The sources also show no quests or progression role for the mod in the pack.

How do you get started with Explosive Enhancement: Reforged?

2 parts

Good news: Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a simple cosmetic mod. It adds lots of new particles whenever an explosion happens, and you can switch any of them on or off. So there is no gear to build first. Your first steps are about seeing the effects and tuning them to your taste.[1]

What you get out of the box

In this pack the mod is switched on with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]] set to true. The custom fireball, blast wave, mushroom cloud, shockwave and sparks effects are all enabled. The default explosion effect is turned off, so the new effects replace it.[3]

Underwater explosions have their own effect and are enabled in the pack. The underwater blast wave is on, while underwater sparks are off. The bubble count for underwater blasts is 50, which matches the mod default.[3]

Your first steps

  1. Find the config file at config/explosiveenhancement.toml. This is where everything for the mod is changed.[1]
  2. Check [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]]. Set it to false if you would rather not see the custom explosions at all.[1][3]
  3. Pick the effects you like with the show options, for example [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showFireball]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showMushroomCloud]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showShockwave]].[3]
  4. Tune the sparks if you want. In this pack [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkOpacity]] is 0.7 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkSize]] is 5.3, both the same as the mod defaults.[3]
  5. If you want the underwater version to look busier, raise [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.bubbleAmount]] above 50. It must stay above 0.[3]
Tip: Dynamic sizing is enabled in the pack through [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicSize]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicUnderwater]]. Both are described in the config as enabling dynamic explosion size.[3]

The mod comes in two versions: a client only one, and a client and server one that is needed on both sides. The second is meant for cases where there are incompatibilities with other client-side mods.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show any craftable items or quests tied to this mod. If you are looking for them, check the pack's quest book and your recipe viewer in game. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Explosive Enhancement: Reforged work?

3 parts

Good news and a heads up: Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a simple cosmetic mod. It adds many new particles when an explosion occurs, and that is the whole system. So there are no machines or multiblocks to build here, and no power, fluid or item handling to automate. Everything you can change lives in one config file.[1]

Each particle effect can be switched on or off on its own, and the whole mod can be turned off from the config too. In this pack the master switch [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]] is true, so the effects are active.[1][3]

The project page says the mod comes in two versions: a client-only one, and a client and server one that must be on both sides. It suggests the second if you hit incompatibilities with other client-sided mods.[1]

Surface explosion effects

These options control what you see when something blows up on land. In this pack every one of the custom effects below is set to true:[3]

  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showFireball]] for fireball effects.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showMushroomCloud]] for mushroom cloud effects.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showShockwave]] for shockwave effects.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showBlastWave]] for blast wave effects.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showSparks]] for sparks.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveExplosion]] for emissive explosion effects.[3]

The pack turns the default explosion effects off with [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosion]] set to false, so the mod's particles replace them. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.alwaysShow]] is true, which means always show explosion effects.[3]

Size and sparks

[[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicSize]] is true, so the explosion size is dynamic. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.attemptBetterSmallExplosions]] is also true, and small explosions get a Y offset from [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.smallExplosionYOffset]] of -0.5, which is the mod default.[3]

Sparks use [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkSize]] at 5.3 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkOpacity]] at 0.7. Both match the mod defaults, and opacity ranges from 0.0 to 1.0.[3]

Underwater explosions

The mod has a special underwater explosion effect that can fill the water with bubbles. In this pack [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterExplosions]] is true. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.bubbleAmount]] is 50, the mod default, and it must be greater than 0.[1][3]

  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicUnderwater]] is true, so underwater explosion size is dynamic.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterBlastWave]] is true, so the underwater blast wave shows.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterSparks]] is false, so underwater sparks are hidden. Their settings are [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkSize]] at 4 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkOpacity]] at 0.3, both the mod defaults.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosionUnderwater]] is false, so the default underwater explosion effects are off.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveWaterExplosion]] is true, so emissive water explosion effects are on.[3]
Tip: If you do not like the custom particles, set [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]] to false in config/explosiveenhancement.toml. You can also keep the mod and switch off individual effects. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.debugLogs]] is false in this pack and only matters if you are troubleshooting.[1][3]

Which Explosive Enhancement: Reforged config options matter?

4 parts

Explosive Enhancement: Reforged is a cosmetic mod that adds extra particles to explosions. Everything lives in one file, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.modEnabled]] is the master switch, and in this pack it is set to true. Setting it to false turns the custom explosions off.[1][3]

Vanilla explosion effects

This pack sets [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosion]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showDefaultExplosionUnderwater]] to false. So the default explosion effects are switched off on land and underwater, and you see the mod's particles instead.[3]

Which particles you see

  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showBlastWave]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showFireball]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showMushroomCloud]], [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showShockwave]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showSparks]] are all true in the pack.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterBlastWave]] is true, but [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.showUnderwaterSparks]] is false, so underwater explosions get a blast wave but no sparks.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveExplosion]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.emissiveWaterExplosion]] are both true.[3]

Sparks and underwater tuning

The pack leaves the numeric options at the mod defaults. [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkSize]] is 5.3 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.sparkOpacity]] is 0.7 (allowed range 0.0 to 1.0). Underwater, [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkSize]] is 4 and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterSparkOpacity]] is 0.3.[3]

[[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.underwaterExplosions]] is true, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.bubbleAmount]] is 50, also the mod default. That is the number of bubbles in an underwater explosion, so raise it if you want a bubblier blast.[1][3]

Size and visibility

  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicSize]] and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.dynamicUnderwater]] are true, so explosion effects scale with the explosion, on land and underwater.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.alwaysShow]] is true, so the effects are always shown.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.attemptBetterSmallExplosions]] is true, and [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.smallExplosionYOffset]] is -0.5, the mod default.[3]
  • [[config:config/explosiveenhancement.toml#Config file for Explosive Enhancement.debugLogs]] is false, so leave it alone unless you are tracking down a problem.[3]

What changed in Explosive Enhancement: Reforged between versions?

1 part
