What is Dyson Cube Project?

1 part

Dyson Cube Project is included in the pack at version 1.0.5. In the pack's quest book, its quests sit in the "power" chapter as one connected chain, and they all ask for items from this mod.[1][2]

Where it fits in the quest book

The chain starts with "Harvesting The Sun" quest, which asks you to get the EM Rail Ejector Controller. Nothing in the sources comes before it for this mod.[2]

"Solar Beams and Sails" quest comes after that. Its tasks accept either a Beam or a Beam Package, and either a Solar Sail or a Solar Sail Package.[2]

The last quest in the chain is "Ray Receiver Controller" quest, which comes after the beam and solar sail quest and asks for the Ray Receiver Controller.[2]

Tip: If you want to follow the quest book, go in this order: the EM Rail Ejector Controller first, then the beam and solar sail items, then the Ray Receiver Controller.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod, and they do not describe what the machines and items do in detail. The only quest placement shown is the power chapter chain above.

How do you get started with Dyson Cube Project?

4 parts

Dyson Cube Project is all about stealing the Sun (the mod's own root advancement says "TODAY WE STEAL THE SUN!"). In this pack the quest book walks you through it in the "power" chapter, as a short chain of quests. Every item in that chain has a recipe the pack has changed, so use the recipe blocks below rather than any recipe you remember from elsewhere.[2][3][4]

The order to follow

  1. Craft the EM Rail Ejector Controller. It is the start of the chain, and the later quests come after it: "Harvesting The Sun" quest.[2]
  2. Hand in a Beam (or a Beam Package) and a Solar Sail (or a Solar Sail Package) for "Solar Beams and Sails" quest. The quest accepts either form of each item.[2]
  3. Finish with the Ray Receiver Controller, which completes "Ray Receiver Controller" quest.[2]

Beam and the ejector controller

Start with the Beam, because it shows up in the controller recipes. Then you can make the EM Rail Ejector Controller for the opening quest.[3]

This one is also a pack-changed recipe, and it uses a Beam.

The mod's advancements make it clear what this controller is for: it ejects solar sails, and the progress milestones count how much of the sphere has been ejected, up to 100%.[4]

Tip: Power is optional for the ejector. The mod's tooltip says that with power it lets you ramp up how many beams or sails are ejected.[4]

Solar Sails and packages

The next quest wants a Beam and a Solar Sail, or their packaged versions. You already have the Beam recipe, so add the Solar Sail.[2][3]

How does Dyson Cube Project work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Dyson Cube Project is built around two controller blocks: the EM Rail Ejector Controller and the Ray Receiver Controller. The mod also has a block called Multiblock Structure. The sources don't say how the pieces fit together, so I'll stick to what the mod's own text and the pack's recipes confirm.[5][6]

The sphere and the Dyson Information screen

The mod tracks a sphere made of solar sails. The EM Rail Ejector Controller advancements are worded around the percentage of the sails that have been ejected, with milestones at 5%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The root advancement is "TODAY WE STEAL THE SUN!", so you know the tone.[5]

There is also a Dyson Information screen. It shows these readouts:[5]

  • Beams, as a count.[5]
  • Sails, shown as one number out of another.[5]
  • Progress, as a percentage.[5]
  • Power Gen and Power Con, both measured in FE.[5]
  • A "Needs more beams" message.[5]

The screen also has a button to subscribe to a sphere, and another to unsubscribe from all spheres. Unsubscribing returns you to your personal sphere. So spheres can be shared between players, and each player has their own by default.[5]

Power

A tooltip in the mod says power is optional. With power, you can ramp up how many beams or sails are ejected. The sources don't give any rates, FE amounts or limits, so I can't tell you how much a powered setup speeds things up.[5]

Tip: If the Dyson Information screen shows "Needs more beams", you are short on Beam items. Beams are cheap to make in this pack, as shown below.[5][6]

Crafting the parts

Every recipe for this mod's items is marked as changed by the pack, so these are the pack's own recipes, not the mod defaults. Everything starts with the beam, and one craft makes 2 of them.[6]

What the sources don't cover

Unverified The multiblock layouts, the exact jobs of the Ray Receiver Controller and the EM Rail Ejector Controller, how beams and sails are moved in and out (items, packages or automation), and any FE or rate numbers are not explained by the available sources. The pack has no config files for this mod.

How do you progress through Dyson Cube Project?

3 parts

In this pack, Dyson Cube Project progression is a straight quest chain in the power chapter. Each quest unlocks after the one before it, so you work through the mod in a fixed order: launch controller, then components, then receiver.[2]

Every Dyson Cube Project recipe shown below has been changed by the pack. Don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default recipes, and use the recipe panels on this page instead.[3]

First: EM Rail Ejector Controller

The chain starts with quest "Harvesting The Sun" quest, which asks you to get an EM Rail Ejector Controller. No other quest has to be finished first.[2]

This recipe uses a Beam, so you will craft one before you can finish this step, even though the next quest is the one that asks for it.[3]

Next: Beams and Solar Sails

Quest "Solar Beams and Sails" quest unlocks after the controller quest. It has a task for a Beam or a Beam Package, and a task for a Solar Sail or a Solar Sail Package.[2]

The last quest, "Ray Receiver Controller" quest, unlocks after the Beam and Solar Sail quest and asks for the Ray Receiver Controller. Its recipe uses a plain Beam and a plain Solar Sail, so keep some of each on hand rather than turning everything into packages.[2][3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Dyson Cube Project?

1 part

In this pack, Dyson Cube Project appears only in the "power" quest chapter. The quests form a chain where each one unlocks after the one before it, so you work through them in a fixed order.[2]

The chain, in order

  1. "Harvesting The Sun" quest starts the chain. Its task is to hand in the EM Rail Ejector Controller.[2]
  2. "Solar Beams and Sails" quest comes after that quest. It has a Beam task and a Solar Sail task. For the Beam task you can hand in either a Beam or a Beam Package. For the Solar Sail task you can hand in either a Solar Sail or a Solar Sail Package.[2]
  3. "Ray Receiver Controller" quest comes after the quest above. Its task is to hand in the Ray Receiver Controller.[2]
Tip: The middle quest accepts either the packaged or the unpackaged form of each item, so you can hand in whichever one you already have.[2]

Which Dyson Cube Project config options matter?

4 parts

Good news first: every numeric option in the Dyson Cube Project config is set to the mod's own default in this pack. Nothing here has been rebalanced, so what you see in the mod's behavior is what the mod author intended. All of these live in the file config/dysoncubeproject/dysoncubeproject.toml.[7]

Sphere size and output

Ray receiver

EM rail ejector

Visual option

Config.SHOW_AT_MAX_PROGRESS controls whether the sphere is always shown at max progress. In this pack it is set to false, so the sphere visual is not forced to its full size. The source doesn't list a mod default for this one, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed it.[7]

Tip: Since the pack leaves all the numeric values at their defaults, you can plan your power setup around the standard numbers above. If you edit the file yourself, remember that you'd be moving away from what the pack ships.[7]
