What is Double Doors?

3 parts

Double Doors is a small quality-of-life mod. It makes identical double doors, trapdoors and fence gates open and close together, so you don't have to click each half of a double door yourself. This pack includes version 7.2.[1][2]

You can trigger it by clicking any of the wooden doors, or by using a single pressure plate or button. Villagers can open double doors too. If you only want one block to move, crouch first and the double-door behavior is switched off for that click.[1]

Connected doors

By default the mod also finds other connected door-type blocks and opens them as well, up to 10 blocks away. That means you can build a giant door out of trapdoors and have the whole thing swing open at once. The search distance can be set anywhere from 1 to 32 blocks, and the recursive feature can be turned off entirely in the config.[1]

What is on by default

  • Double doors are enabled by default.[1]
  • Double fence gates and double trapdoors are both off by default in the mod's config, so you have to enable them if you want them.[1]
  • A mod incompatibility check is on by default. If another loaded mod has its own double-door feature, Double Doors edits a line in that mod's config to disable it. This fixes doors not opening because the code ran twice.[1]
Tip: If your fence gates or trapdoors only open one at a time, the likely cause is that the mod's default setting for them is off. Check the config before assuming something is broken.[1]

Who it is for

It suits anyone building bases, farms or big entrances who wants gates and doors to work as a pair. Iron doors work too: you can open them with a single button or any other setup you like.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack changes any of the mod's default config values is not confirmed in the sources I have. The mod has no quests or ATM Star path steps tied to it, so treat it as a convenience mod rather than a progression step.

How do you get started with Double Doors?

2 parts

Good news: Double Doors has nothing you need to craft. It's a minimalistic mod that changes how doors, trapdoors and fence gates behave, so you can start using it with the doors you already have.[1]

The sources I have don't list any items, recipes or quests for this mod, so there are no recipe blocks in this section.[1]

Try it out

  1. Place two identical doors side by side, like a classic double door. Click either one and both open at the same time.[1]
  2. Want automation? A single pressure plate or button can open the whole set, and that includes iron doors.[1]
  3. Crouch while clicking to open or close just the one block you clicked.[1]
  4. Build a bigger door out of connected door-type blocks. By default the mod finds connected blocks and opens them too, up to a maximum of 10 blocks away.[1]

Villagers can open double doors too, so your village builds and your own base work the same way.[1]

Fence gates and trapdoors

Tip: In the mod's defaults, double doors are on (enableDoors is true), but enableFenceGates and enableTrapdoors are false. If your gates or trapdoors don't open together, those two options are the first place to look. Recursive opening (enableRecursiveOpening) is on by default, and its search distance (recursiveOpeningMaxBlocksDistance) defaults to 10 and can be set from 1 to 32.[1]

Unverified These are the mod's own defaults. I couldn't confirm whether this pack changes any of them, so check the pack's config in game if a door type doesn't behave as described.

How does Double Doors work?

4 parts

Double Doors is a minimalistic mod built around one behavior: identical double doors, trapdoors and fence gates open and close together. You can trigger the set by clicking any one of the wooden doors, or with a single pressure plate or button.[1]

Villagers can open double doors too, so a double-door entrance won't get in their way. Iron doors work as well: you can open them with a single button, or with any other layout you build.[1]

Which block types are enabled

Each block type has its own toggle. In this pack they are all switched on. For fence gates and trapdoors that is different from the mod's own defaults, so it is a pack setting and not something you get out of the box.[1][3]

  • enableDoors is true in the pack, so double doors work. This matches the mod's default.[1][3]
  • enableFenceGates is true in the pack, so double fence gates work. The mod's default for this option is false.[1][3]
  • enableTrapdoors is true in the pack, so double trapdoors work. The mod's default for this option is false.[1][3]

Trapdoors and fence gates stacked on top of each other can also be opened by a click or by a pressure plate or button.[1]

Recursive opening

With enableRecursiveOpening on, which it is in this pack, the mod also finds other connected door-type blocks and opens them at the same time. That means you can build a giant door out of trapdoors and have every connected piece open together.[1][3]

How far the search reaches is set by recursiveOpeningMaxBlocksDistance, which is 10 blocks in this pack. The pack's config file lists a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 64 for it. If a very large build only half opens, this distance is the first thing to check.[3]

Controlling it

  • Click any door in a matching set and the others open with it.[1]
  • Crouch while clicking to turn the double door feature off for that click. Only the single block you clicked opens or closes.[1]
  • Use a single pressure plate or button to open a whole set at once.[1]

Other mods with double doors

enableModIncompatibilityCheck is true in this pack. It checks whether other loaded mods have their own double door feature, such as Quark. If it finds one, it edits a line in that mod's config to disable the other mod's double doors. This fixes doors not opening because the code ran twice.[3]

Which Double Doors config options matter?

2 parts

Double Doors has only a handful of options, and this pack ships with all of them switched on. The two that matter most are the fence gate and trapdoor toggles, because this pack changed them from the mod's defaults.[1][3]

Values the pack changed

  • enableFenceGates is true in this pack. The mod's default is false, so double fence gates work here without any setup.[1][3]
  • enableTrapdoors is true in this pack. The mod's default is false, so double trapdoors also work out of the box.[1][3]

Values that match the mod default

  • enableDoors is true, so double doors work.[1][3]
  • enableRecursiveOpening is true. Connected door-type blocks open together, so you can build a giant door out of trapdoors and have every piece open at the same time.[1][3]
  • recursiveOpeningMaxBlocksDistance is 10. This is how far the recursive search looks, and it only applies while recursive opening is enabled. The pack's config file lists a range of 1 to 64.[1][3]
  • enableModIncompatibilityCheck is true. It looks for other loaded mods with double door functionality, such as Quark, and edits a line in their config to disable theirs. That fixes doors not opening because the code ran twice.[1][3]
Tip: If you ever want to open just one door, trapdoor or gate, crouch first. Crouching disables the double door feature and only opens or closes the single block.[1]

What changed in Double Doors between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Double Doors 7.2, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Here's what changed across the last few versions of the mod.[2]

Mod changelogs

  • 7.2 (the version in this pack): fixed villagers opening double doors having a chance to crash the game.[2][4]
  • 7.1: fixed fence gates opening in the wrong direction, and fixed a rare crash when villagers were opening double doors.[5]
  • 7.1: trapdoors and fence gates are now disabled in the config by default.[5]
  • 7.0: villagers can now open double doors too, and recursive fence gates now open in the correct direction.[6]
  • 7.0: a fix for fence gates not opening recursively is tagged 1.21.5. This pack uses the 1.21.1 build of the mod, so that entry is for a different Minecraft version.[2][6]

If you've seen villagers walking through double doors without trouble, that comes from 7.0. The crash fixes in 7.1 and 7.2 both deal with villagers using those doors.[4][5][6]

Tip: The trapdoor and fence gate change in 7.1 is the mod's own default. If your fence gates or trapdoors don't open together with doubled-up ones, check the mod's config.[5]

Unverified Whether this pack changed any Double Doors settings from the mod defaults is not confirmed, and there are no pack changelog entries for this mod.
