What is Double Doors?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Double Doors is a small quality-of-life mod. It makes identical double doors, trapdoors and fence gates open and close together, so you don't have to click each half of a double door yourself. This pack includes version 7.2.[1][2]

You can trigger it by clicking any of the wooden doors, or by using a single pressure plate or button. Villagers can open double doors too. If you only want one block to move, crouch first and the double-door behavior is switched off for that click.[1]

Connected doors

By default the mod also finds other connected door-type blocks and opens them as well, up to 10 blocks away. That means you can build a giant door out of trapdoors and have the whole thing swing open at once. The search distance can be set anywhere from 1 to 32 blocks, and the recursive feature can be turned off entirely in the config.[1]

What is on by default

  • Double doors are enabled by default.[1]
  • Double fence gates and double trapdoors are both off by default in the mod's config, so you have to enable them if you want them.[1]
  • A mod incompatibility check is on by default. If another loaded mod has its own double-door feature, Double Doors edits a line in that mod's config to disable it. This fixes doors not opening because the code ran twice.[1]
Tip: If your fence gates or trapdoors only open one at a time, the likely cause is that the mod's default setting for them is off. Check the config before assuming something is broken.[1]

Who it is for

It suits anyone building bases, farms or big entrances who wants gates and doors to work as a pair. Iron doors work too: you can open them with a single button or any other setup you like.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack changes any of the mod's default config values is not confirmed in the sources I have. The mod has no quests or ATM Star path steps tied to it, so treat it as a convenience mod rather than a progression step.

How do you get started with Double Doors?

4 parts

Good news: Double Doors is a minimalistic mod, so there is nothing to craft before you start. It adds the ability for identical double doors to be opened at the same time, so you just use the doors you already build with.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Place two identical doors side by side and click either one. Both open together.[1]
  2. Try a single button or pressure plate. The mod lets one of these open the whole pair, which is handy for iron doors.[1]
  3. Crouch when you click if you only want one door to move. Crouching turns the double door feature off and opens or closes that single block.[1]

What is switched on in this pack

Double doors work out of the box here, because enableDoors is true.[3]

Double fence gates and double trapdoors are different. enableFenceGates and enableTrapdoors are both false in this pack, so gates and trapdoors will keep opening one at a time unless you change those options.[3]

Tip: If you want paired fence gates or trapdoors, enable them in config/doubledoors.json5. The mod's project page also says these two are off until you turn them on.[1][3]

Building bigger doors

enableRecursiveOpening is true in this pack. That means connected door-type blocks open together, so you can build something like a giant door made of trapdoors, as long as the pieces are connected.[1][3]

The search distance is set by recursiveOpeningMaxBlocksDistance, which is 10 blocks in this pack. Keep your big door builds within that range. Note that trapdoors only join in once you enable them as described above.[3]

Other door mods

enableModIncompatibilityCheck is true in this pack. It checks for other loaded mods with double door functionality, such as Quark, and edits a line in their config to turn theirs off. This avoids doors failing to open because the code ran twice.[3]

How does Double Doors work?

4 parts

Double Doors is a small mod with no machines, power or fluids to manage. It does one job: identical double doors open and close together. You can click either door, or use a single pressure plate or button to trigger both.[1]

What the pack has switched on

The pack's config decides which kinds of blocks get the double behaviour. Here is how it is set up:[3]

If you want fence gates or trapdoors to open as a pair, you have to turn them on in the config first.[1][3]

Recursive opening

With recursive opening on, the mod does not stop at one neighbouring door. It searches for connected door-type blocks and opens those too. The config description gives the example of a giant door built from several parts that all open at the same time, as long as they are connected.[1][3]

The search range is set by the distance option. In this pack it is 10 blocks, and the pack's config file allows values from 1 to 64. Keep the whole build within that range, or the far parts will not be found.[3]

Remember that trapdoors and fence gates only join in once you enable them in the config. The pack ships with them off.[3]

Controlling a single door

Tip: Crouch while you click to switch off the double behaviour. Only the single block you clicked opens or closes.[1]

Iron doors can be opened with a single button, or with any other layout you build. Villagers can open double doors too.[1]

Mod compatibility check

Some other mods, such as Quark, also have double door features. If both run, the opening code runs twice and doors may not open. With the check on, the mod looks for other loaded mods with double door functionality and edits a line in their config to turn that feature off. The pack has this check enabled.[1][3]

Which Double Doors config options matter?

3 parts

Double Doors has a small config, and the pack sets every option in it. The on/off switches and the search distance all match the defaults listed on the mod's project page, so the pack has not changed any of them.[1][3]

What is on and what is off

  • enableDoors is true in the pack, so double doors open together. This matches the default.[1][3]
  • enableFenceGates is false in the pack, so double fence gates do not work. This matches the default.[1][3]
  • enableTrapdoors is false in the pack, so double trapdoors do not work. This also matches the default.[1][3]
Tip: If you want fence gates or trapdoors to open as a pair, you need to switch on their options in the config yourself. They are off in this pack.[1][3]

Recursive opening

enableRecursiveOpening is true in the pack. It lets connected door-type blocks open at the same time, so you can build a giant door out of trapdoors, for example, and have it all swing together.[1][3]

recursiveOpeningMaxBlocksDistance is 10 in the pack, which is how far the search for connected blocks goes. The pack's config file lists a range of 1 to 64 for it. This search only runs while recursive opening is enabled.[3]

Mod compatibility check

enableModIncompatibilityCheck is true in the pack. It looks for other loaded mods with their own double door feature, such as Quark, and edits a line in their config to turn that feature off. This fixes doors not opening because the code ran twice.[1][3]

Tip: Crouching turns the double door feature off for that click, so you open or close only the single block you clicked.[1]

What changed in Double Doors between versions?

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Double Doors 7.2, using the file doubledoors-26.1.2-7.2.jar. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it's not a new addition in this release.[4]

The one change in the 7.2 changelog is that the mod was updated to Minecraft version 26.1.2. The changelog doesn't list any other changes for this release.[5]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as doubledoors, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
