What is Create Sifting?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Create Sifting adds a sifter block to Create. If you have played with the Ex Nihilo sieve, you already know the idea: you put items in, run them through a mesh, and get other items out. The mod is built to be used in modpacks, which makes it a good fit here.[1]
What the sifter does
The Sifter does automated sifting and works much like Create's Millstone. You can toss items on top of it, or feed it automatically with hoppers, funnels or chutes. Right-click it with a mesh to install the mesh. Right-click with an empty hand to clear its inventories, and Shift + right-click to take the mesh out.[1]
The mesh decides what you can sift. The mod has string, andesite, brass and sturdy meshes, and it also adds a zinc mesh for modpacks. Meshes work in the sifter or in your hand, like Create's sandpaper. Advanced meshes only work in the brass sifter.[1]
Brass sifter
The brass sifter is the upgrade. A high redstone signal disables its processing, it has an output filter, and it has a bigger output capacity. It also processes 8x per cycle. Both the 8x and the capacity are configurable, so I can't promise this pack keeps the defaults.[1]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack includes the 1.21.1 build of the mod. You meet it early, in the "the_beginning" quest chapter. One quest asks you to get a water strainer from the FTB Stuff set (any wood type counts) and a Stone Pebble. Another asks for the Sifter and an Mechanical Cloth Mesh.[2][3]
- Quest a quest in "?": a water strainer, plus a stone pebble.[3]
- Quest a quest in "?": the sifter, plus a cloth mesh.[3]
Unverified The pack's mod list shows Create Sifting as version 2.2.2, but the jar file name says 2.3.0, so the exact version is unconfirmed. The sources also don't show whether the pack changed any sifting recipes or configs, or where the cloth mesh comes from.
How do you get started with Create Sifting?
4 parts
Early on, the pack steers you toward the Create Sifting mod. The quest a quest in "?" asks you to get a Sifter and an Mechanical Cloth Mesh. Start there.[4]
Step 1: Build the Sifter
The sifter is the block that does all the work, so it comes first. Here is the in-pack recipe:[5]
Crafting Shaped

| Empty slot | any stone | Empty slot |
Recipe id: createsifter:crafting/sifter
To use it, throw or insert items into the top. After some time, right-click the sifter to collect the result. You can power it from the side with cogwheels, and automation can pull the outputs out too.[6]
Step 2: Make a mesh
A sifter does nothing without a mesh. The mod's project page says you add one by right-clicking the sifter with it. These are the two basic meshes with plain recipes in the pack:[1][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: createsifter:crafting/string_mesh
String Mesh
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: createsifter:crafting/andesite_mesh
Andesite Mesh
The quest wants a cloth mesh, which is a separate item from the meshes above. The sources don't say whether it works inside the sifter, so check that in game.[4]
Unverified Whether the cloth mesh from the quest can be used in the sifter, and how to craft it, is not confirmed by the sources.
Step 3: Stone pebbles
The next quest, a quest in "?", asks for any wooden water strainer and a Stone Pebble. The sources don't say how the pebble is obtained, so I won't guess. Hand it in as you progress.[4]
Looking ahead: sturdier meshes and the Brass Sifter
Once the basics work, you can upgrade. The pack changed the recipes for Sturdy Mesh and Advanced Sturdy Mesh, so don't rely on mod defaults you may remember from other packs.[5]

Advanced meshes only work in the Brass Sifter, which you upgrade from a normal sifter:[1][5]

How does Create Sifting work?
9 parts
The Sifter is the heart of Create Sifting. It's a Create machine that takes items and sifts them into something else, and the project page says it works more or less like the Millstone. Here's how it runs in this pack.[1][6]
How sifting works
- Power the sifter from the side with cogwheels.[6]
- Right-click the sifter with a mesh to add it.[1]
- Throw or insert items at the top.[6]
- Wait a while, then right-click to collect the result.[6]
If you'd rather not babysit it, the outputs can also be extracted by automation. On the input side, the project page says you can toss items on top or feed the sifter with hoppers, funnels or chutes.[1][6]
The project page also describes how to empty a sifter. Right-click with an empty hand to clear its inventories, in the order output, then input. Shift + right-click handles the mesh.[1]
Power and speed
The pack sets the stress impact of the Sifter to 4 and of the Brass Sifter to 16, so the Brass Sifter is the much hungrier machine. These are the stressValues.v1.impact.sifter and stressValues.v1.impact.brass_sifter values.[7]
Sifter.minimumSpeed is the minimum required speed, and the pack leaves it at the mod default of 1.[7]

The Brass Sifter is an upgrade of the basic Sifter.
Meshes
The mesh decides what a sifter can process. According to the project page, meshes work in a sifter or in your hand, like Create's sandpaper. Advanced meshes only work with the brass sifter.[1]
The pack's mesh recipes include the String Mesh, the Andesite Mesh, the Sturdy Mesh and the Advanced Sturdy Mesh. The pack changed the Sturdy Mesh and Advanced Sturdy Mesh recipes, so don't trust older guides for those.[5]

Brass Sifter
The Brass Sifter is the upgrade. The project page lists a high redstone signal disabling processing, an output filter, 8x processing per cycle and a bigger output capacity. Recipes can also be set to require it, and the in-game tooltip then says it requires a brass sifter.[1][6]
In the pack, [[config:config/createsifter-server.toml#Brass Sifter.outputCapacity]] is 8 items processed per cycle, the same as the mod default.[7]
Output capacity
Sifter.outputCapacity is the output item capacity of the basic Sifter. The pack keeps it at the mod default of 16.[7]
Waterlogging
The project page says recipes can optionally be flagged as waterlogged, and a waterlogged sifter gives a different output. Meshes held in hand count as waterlogged while the player is in a liquid block.[1]
Related Create processing
The mod also adds a few Create milling and crushing recipes of its own. They produce Dust block, Crushed basalt, Crushed end stone and Crushed netherrack.[5]
Visual options
There are client options for the visuals, and both are on in the pack: mechanicalSifterClient.v1.renderMovingMesh renders the moving mesh, and mechanicalSifterClient.v1.renderSiftedBlock renders the sifted block.[8]
Unverified The project page's documentation refers to Minecraft 1.21.1, and the sources don't confirm that this pack's version matches it. The redstone behavior, output filter, hand-clearing and waterlogging details come only from that page, so check them in-game.
How do you progress through Create Sifting?
4 parts
Create Sifting appears in the pack's opening quest chapter, the_beginning. After that, you progress by crafting better meshes and sifters yourself. Here is what the sources confirm.[4]
Quest path
- Quest a quest in "?" asks you to have a water strainer (any of the wooden variants listed in the quest) and a Stone Pebble. It comes after quest 4C8EB2205707AE45 in the same chapter.[4]
- Quest a quest in "?" asks you to have a Sifter and an Mechanical Cloth Mesh. It comes after quest 1553CDD5ED42DF02 in the same chapter.[4]
Sifter tiers
The basic Sifter is the starting machine. Its recipe is the mod's own, not a pack change.[5]
Crafting Shaped

The next step up is the Brass Sifter, whose recipe builds on the regular Sifter. This one is also the mod's own recipe.[5]

The recipes for Sturdy Mesh and Advanced Sturdy Mesh are changed by the pack, so they differ from the mod's defaults. If you know the mod from other packs, check these recipes before you craft.[5]

Materials to feed it
Create's crushing and milling make the sifting materials. Milling gives you Crushed basalt, Crushed netherrack and Crushed end stone. Dust block can come from either crushing or milling.[5]
Unverified The sources don't say which mesh gives which drops, how the tiers compare in speed, or what the Sifter needs to run. Check these in-game before you plan a build around them.
How does Create Sifting work with other mods?
3 parts
Create Sifting is a sifter add-on for Create, and the pack's recipes and quests show how it ties into other mods. Everything below comes from the in-pack recipe list and the quest chapter "the_beginning".[1][4][5]
Create
Create is where you get the parts for your first sifting setup. The Sifter and the Andesite Mesh are both crafted using Create items such as Andesite Alloy, Andesite Casing and Cogwheel. Both are listed as the mod's own recipes.[5]
Crafting Shaped

The Sifter uses Create's casing and cogwheel.

Recipe id: createsifter:crafting/andesite_mesh
There is also a link going back into Create. A Raw Copper Piece can be converted into Crushed Raw Copper, so copper from sifting can feed into Create's crushed ore.[5]
Farmer's Delight
The pack has sifting recipes that connect to Farmer's Delight. Sifting Dirt can give you Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds. This works with either the Andesite Mesh or the String Mesh.[5]

FTB quests
The early questline in the chapter "the_beginning" ties the sifter to the pack's own FTB items. The quest a quest in "?" asks you to hand in one of the water strainers from the pack's FTB items, together with a Stone Pebble.[4]
The quest a quest in "?" asks you to submit a Sifter and an Mechanical Cloth Mesh. That cloth mesh is an FTB item, not one of Create Sifting's own meshes.[4]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Create Sifting?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
This mod shows up in two quests, both in the "the_beginning" chapter. Neither has a title in the quest file, so you'll recognise them by their tasks.[3]
- a quest in "?" has two item tasks. The first accepts a water strainer, and any wood-type variant counts. The second asks for a Stone Pebble. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks you to hand in a Sifter and a cloth mesh. It also unlocks after a different earlier quest in the chapter.[3]
Both quests ask for items, so you have to get the items yourself before the quests will complete. The sources don't say how.[3]
Unverified The sources don't show how these two quests are ordered relative to each other, or what the quests they depend on ask for. Check the quest book in-game for the exact path.
Which Create Sifting config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Create Sifting has only a handful of options, and most of them are untouched in this pack. The one real change is mesh durability, so that's the first thing to check.[9]
Mesh durability (changed by the pack)
The mod normally applies mesh durability only to hand sifting. This pack turns that off as well, so meshes don't wear down whether you sift by hand or with a sifter.[1][9]
- Meshes.useMeshDurabilityWithHand is set to false in this pack.[9]
- Meshes.useMeshDurabilityWithSifter is also set to false.[9]
Capacity and speed (mod defaults)
- Sifter.outputCapacity is 16, the same as the mod default. It controls the sifter's output item capacity.[9]
- [[config:config/createsifter-server.toml#Brass Sifter.outputCapacity]] is 8, also the mod default. It sets how many items the brass sifter processes per cycle.[1][9]
- Sifter.minimumSpeed is 1, the mod default. This is the minimum speed the sifter needs to run.[9]
Stress impact
The pack sets the stress impact of the basic sifter (stressValues.v1.impact.sifter) to 4, and the brass sifter (stressValues.v1.impact.brass_sifter) to 16. The sources don't list mod defaults for these, so I can't say whether the pack changed them.[9]
Client visuals
Both client options are set to true in this pack: mechanicalSifterClient.v1.renderMovingMesh and mechanicalSifterClient.v1.renderSiftedBlock. The sifter renders its moving mesh and the block being sifted. If you need a few extra frames, these are the places to look.[10]
What changed in Create Sifting between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.1.1 ships Create Sifting version 1.21.1-2.1.6, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is no pack-side history to report.[11]
