What is Scannable Reforged?
Scannable Reforged is part of this pack. Version 1.1.0 of the pack ships Scannable Reforged 1.0.1, built for NeoForge.[1]
It is not a new addition: it was already in the pack by version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it has been there for a while.[1]
How do you get started with Scannable Reforged?
5 parts
The Scanner from Scannable Reforged lets you scan for nearby points of interest. It does nothing on its own, though: if you try it with no module installed, it tells you "No scanning module installed." So the plan is simple. Make the scanner first, then add modules for whatever you want to find.[2]
Step 1: the Scanner
Crafting Shaped

| Iron Bars | any redstone dust | Iron Bars |
| any gold ingot | any quartz gem | any gold ingot |
Recipe id: scannable:scanner
This is the in-pack recipe for the scanner itself.
In this pack the scanner uses energy, so it is a chargeable item. It stores up to 20,000 energy, and the scanner tooltip shows how much it currently holds. If you run low, you get a "Not enough energy" message.[2][4]
Step 2: your first module
Start with ores. The Scanner Module: Common Ores detects common ores. In this pack that covers the redstone, tin, coal, quartz, copper and iron ore tags, plus clay. Each scan with it costs 75 energy.[2][4]
Craft this one first for everyday mining trips.
Modules go in the scanner's Modules section, which holds the active ones used for a scan. The Inactive slots are just spare storage, and modules in them are not used when you scan.[2]
Next: rare ores
Next comes the Scanner Module: Rare Ores, which detects rare ores such as diamond and emerald. This pack also adds glowstone to its rare list. Each scan with it costs 100 energy.[2][4]

Then: more range
The base scan radius is 64. The Scanner Module: Range increases the range of your scans and costs 100 energy per scan. The pack's config lists a relative range of 0.25 for both ore modules, against 1 for the chest and spawner modules.[2][4]

Other modules to try later
- Scanner Module: Chests detects storage blocks such as chests, barrels and shulker boxes.[2]
- Scanner Module: Spawners detects all spawners by default. In this pack that means the vanilla mob spawner.[2][4]
- Scanner Module: Fluids detects fluids such as water and lava.[2]
- Scanner Module: Animals finds animals and Scanner Module: Monsters finds monsters.[2]
- Scanner Module: Block and Scanner Module: Living Entity detect blocks or mobs that you choose. Right-click a block or mob to add it, or right-click air to configure.[2]
- Scanner Module: Lootr detects unopened Lootr loot and hides each container once you loot it. It needs the Lootr mod.[2]
There is also a recipe for the Blank Scanner Module.[3]
How does Scannable Reforged work?
5 parts
The Scanner is the one item that everything in Scannable Reforged revolves around. You use it to scan for nearby points of interest, and the modules you load into it decide what it actually looks for.[2]
Modules and slots
The scanner has a row of active module slots, and these are the modules used when you perform a scan. It also has inactive slots, which are just convenience storage for extra modules and are not used in a scan. If you scan with no module installed, you get a "No scanning module installed." message, and if there is nowhere to put a module you get "No free slots."[2]
The mod groups all of its module items, including the Blank Scanner Module, in one modules item tag.[5]
- Scanner Module: Block: detects chosen blocks. Right-click a block to add it, and right-click air to configure it, or use blocks.[2]
- Scanner Module: Living Entity: detects chosen mobs. Right-click a mob to add it, and right-click air to configure it, or use eggs.[2]
- Scanner Module: Animals: detects friendly living entities.[2]
- Scanner Module: Monsters: detects hostile living entities.[2]
- Scanner Module: Common Ores: detects common ores such as coal and iron.[2]
- Scanner Module: Rare Ores: detects rare ores such as diamond and emerald.[2]
- Scanner Module: Fluids: detects fluids such as water and lava.[2]
- Scanner Module: Chests: detects storage blocks such as chests, barrels and shulker boxes.[2]
- Scanner Module: Spawners: detects all spawners by default. You can filter it by right-clicking a spawner or a mob, and right-clicking air configures it, or use eggs.[2]
- Scanner Module: Lootr: detects unopened Lootr loot and hides each container once you loot it. It needs the Lootr mod.[2]
- Scanner Module: Range: increases the range of scans.[2]
Energy
In this pack energy.useEnergy is true, so every scan consumes energy and the scanner is a chargeable item. Its tooltip shows how much it holds, and if it is short you get a "Not enough energy." message. The capacity from energy.energyCapacityScanner is 20,000, which is the mod default.[2][4]
Each module in the active slots has its own energy cost per scan. The pack leaves all of them at the mod defaults:[4]
- Animals: 25 (energy.energyCostModuleAnimal).[4]
- Monsters: 50 (energy.energyCostModuleMonster).[4]
- Living Entity: 75 (energy.energyCostModuleEntity).[4]
- Fluids: 50 (energy.energyCostModuleFluid).[4]
- Common Ores: 75 (energy.energyCostModuleOreCommon).[4]
- Rare Ores: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleOreRare).[4]
- Block: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleBlock).[4]
- Chests: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleChest).[4]
- Lootr: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleLootr).[4]
- Spawners: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleSpawner).[4]
- Range: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleRange).[4]
Range and how long results stay
The base scan radius without any range modules is 64 (general.baseScanRadius), which is the mod default. The config allows values from 16 to 128, and higher values mean more computational overhead and potentially worse performance while scanning.[4]
Each installed Scanner Module: Range adds a relative amount of the base radius, and in this pack that amount is 0.5 (range.rangeModifierModuleRange), the mod default.[4]
The other modules each have a relative effective range too. All of these are the mod defaults in this pack, and each setting accepts values from 0.0 to 1.0:[4]
- Chests: 1 (range.rangeModifierModuleChest).[4]
- Lootr: 1 (range.rangeModifierModuleLootr).[4]
- Spawners: 1 (range.rangeModifierModuleSpawner).[4]
- Block: 0.5 (range.rangeModifierModuleBlock).[4]
- Fluids: 0.5 (range.rangeModifierModuleFluid).[4]
- Common Ores: 0.25 (range.rangeModifierModuleOreCommon).[4]
- Rare Ores: 0.25 (range.rangeModifierModuleOreRare).[4]
Scan results stay visible for 10,000 milliseconds (general.scanStayDuration), also the mod default. The config accepts values from 1,000 to 300,000.[4]
While a scan is running, the screen shows a "Charging..." percentage. Results are shown with a distance in metres, and spawner results are labelled as a Spawner.[2]
What each module counts
The config files decide which blocks each module picks up. This is how the pack has them set:[4]
- Ignored blocks: minecraft:command_block is on the ignore list (blocks.ignoredBlocks), so it is excluded from the default ore list and you cannot tune the entity module to it. The ignored block tag list is empty. Trying to add an ignored block gives an "Invalid block." message.[2][4]
- Chests: the c:chests, c:barrels and minecraft:shulker_boxes tags count as chests (chests.commonChestTags).[4]
- Common ores: the tags c:ores/redstone, c:ores/tin, c:ores/coal, c:ores/quartz, c:ores/copper and c:ores/iron, plus minecraft:clay (ores.commonOreBlockTags and ores.commonOreBlocks).[4]
- Rare ores: minecraft:glowstone is listed (ores.rareOreBlocks). Any block with the forge:ores tag is also implicitly rare, unless it matches an ignored or common ore tag or is an ignored or common block.[4]
- Spawners: the vanilla minecraft:spawner (spawners.spawnerBlocks), which also covers mods that enhance it in place. To also detect trial chambers you would add minecraft:trial_spawner and minecraft:vault, and a separate modded spawner block can be added by its registry name.[4]
- Lootr: the lootr:containers tag (lootr.lootrBlockTags). It has no effect unless Lootr is installed.[4]
- Fluids: the ignored fluid tag list is empty (fluids.ignoredFluidTags).[4]
Crafting
The scanner and every module have their own crafting recipe in the pack. Here are the scanner and the blank module.[3]

How do you progress through Scannable Reforged?
4 parts
Scannable Reforged centres on one handheld item, the Scanner, plus a set of modules that decide what it looks for. In this pack the scanner and every module have their own crafting recipe, and the recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[3][5]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest for this mod, so there is no quest-driven order to follow. The order below simply follows the crafting recipes: scanner first, then the blank module, then the specialised modules.
First: the Scanner

Next: the Blank Scanner Module
The Blank Scanner Module is the plain module. It is a shaped crafting recipe, and it is listed in the mod's module tag alongside all the specialised modules.[3][5]

Then: pick your modules
Every specialised module has its own recipe in the pack. Apart from the Spawners module, which is shaped, they are all shapeless crafting recipes.[3]
- Range: Scanner Module: Range.[3][5]
- Entities: Scanner Module: Living Entity for living entities, Scanner Module: Animals for animals and Scanner Module: Monsters for monsters.[3][5]
- Blocks and world features: Scanner Module: Block, Scanner Module: Common Ores, Scanner Module: Rare Ores, Scanner Module: Fluids, Scanner Module: Chests and Scanner Module: Spawners.[3][5]
- Loot containers: Scanner Module: Lootr has its own shapeless recipe in the pack.[3]

Which Scannable Reforged config options matter?
5 parts
Everything here lives in config/scannable-common.toml for Scannable Reforged. The file shows a mod default next to every numeric value, and in this pack every one of those numbers matches the default. So scan radius, energy costs and range modifiers are all untouched. The block and tag lists below are the part most worth a look.[4]
Scan radius and display time
- general.baseScanRadius is 64, and the allowed range is 16 to 128. It is the radius before any range modules. Higher values mean more computational overhead, so they can hurt performance while scanning.[4]
- general.scanStayDuration is 10,000 milliseconds, which is how long scan results stay visible. The allowed range is 1,000 to 300,000.[4]
Energy
energy.useEnergy is true in this pack, so scanning consumes energy and the scanner is a chargeable item. energy.energyCapacityScanner is 20,000.[4]
Each module has its own energy cost per scan. These are the values in this pack:[4]
- Animal: 25 (energy.energyCostModuleAnimal)[4]
- Monster: 50 (energy.energyCostModuleMonster)[4]
- Fluid: 50 (energy.energyCostModuleFluid)[4]
- Entity: 75 (energy.energyCostModuleEntity)[4]
- Common ore: 75 (energy.energyCostModuleOreCommon)[4]
- Rare ore: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleOreRare)[4]
- Block: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleBlock)[4]
- Chest: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleChest)[4]
- Lootr: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleLootr)[4]
- Spawner: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleSpawner)[4]
- Range: 100 (energy.energyCostModuleRange)[4]
Module range
Each module reaches only a fraction of the base radius, and every option allows 0.0 to 1.0. In this pack the chest (range.rangeModifierModuleChest), Lootr (range.rangeModifierModuleLootr) and spawner (range.rangeModifierModuleSpawner) modules use the full 1. The block (range.rangeModifierModuleBlock) and fluid (range.rangeModifierModuleFluid) modules use 0.5. The common ore (range.rangeModifierModuleOreCommon) and rare ore (range.rangeModifierModuleOreRare) modules use 0.25.[4]
range.rangeModifierModuleRange is 0.5. That is the relative amount of base scan radius each installed range module adds.[4]
What each module detects
- Common ores: ores.commonOreBlockTags covers the redstone, tin, coal, quartz, copper and iron ore tags, and ores.commonOreBlocks adds minecraft:clay.[4]
- Rare ores: ores.rareOreBlocks lists minecraft:glowstone, and ores.rareOreBlockTags is empty. The config describes any block with the forge:ores tag as implicitly rare, unless it matches an ignored or common entry.[4]
- Chests: chests.commonChestTags covers chests, barrels and shulker boxes, and chests.commonChestBlocks is empty.[4]
- Spawners: spawners.spawnerBlocks is just minecraft:spawner, and spawners.spawnerBlockTags is empty.[4]
- Ignored: blocks.ignoredBlocks contains minecraft:command_block. blocks.ignoredBlockTags and fluids.ignoredFluidTags are empty.[4]
Lootr containers
lootr.lootrBlockTags is set to lootr:containers, which the config says covers all Lootr chests, barrels, shulkers, pots and brushables. lootr.lootrBlocks is empty. These options have no effect unless Lootr is installed.[4]
