Refined Types is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 26.1.2-1.0.2. Adds support for Energy, Ars Nouveau and Industrial Foregoing Souls to Refined Storage (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Refined Types?

2 parts

Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets Refined Storage components handle FE, Source and Souls, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them like items and fluids.[1]

Supported resource types

  • FE, the energy type.[1]
  • Source, which comes from Ars Nouveau.[1]
  • Souls, which come from Industrial Foregoing Souls.[1]

The project page also lists Mana from Botania, but only as planned, so don't count on it.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Refined Types 26.1.2-1.0.2, and it has been in the pack since version 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Refined Types?

4 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage that adds support for FE, Source (from Ars Nouveau) and Souls (from Industrial Foregoing Souls) to Refined Storage components. That means you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them like items. In this pack the crafting recipes for the energy items are all in place, so here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Start with the smallest energy tier

The energy line comes in tiers: 64K, 256K, 1024K, 8192K, 65536K, 262144K, 1048576K and 8388608K, plus an Infinite version. Begin at the bottom with 64K. You make the part first, then the disk.[3]

Then the 64K Energy Storage Disk.

The mod's own advancement for this is simple: craft an Energy Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive. That is the quickest way to get FE stored on your Refined Storage network.[4]

Disk or block

Each tier also has a block version. If you want one, the 64K block has its own recipe.[3]

There is also a shapeless recipe that turns a storage housing into the 64K disk, if you already have one on hand.[3]

Moving up a tier

Higher tiers have their own part, disk and block recipes, and most also have an upgrade recipe of the Refined Storage storage container upgrade type. The 64K tier is the entry point, so it has no upgrade recipe.[3]

Bigger blocks use more. In this pack the 64K Energy Storage Block uses 2 (energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage), the 256K block uses 4 (energyStorageBlock.256KEnergyUsage) and the 1024K block uses 6 (energyStorageBlock.1024KEnergyUsage). These are the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them.[3][5]

One more block to know

The mod also adds the Network Energizer, which has its own crafting recipe.[3][4]

How does Refined Types work?

4 parts

Refined Types is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds support for FE, Source and Souls in various Refined Storage components, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them like items. The Source side is tied to Ars Nouveau and the Souls side to Industrial Foregoing Souls. Mana from Botania is listed as planned, so don't count on it.[1]

The mod's own language file also contains Essentia storage items, so Essentia is part of the pack's setup too, even though the project page doesn't list it.[4]

Disks, parts and blocks

Each resource type comes as Storage Disks, Storage Parts and Storage Blocks in numbered tiers, for example the 256K Energy Storage Disk and the 1048576K Energy Storage Block. The number in the name is the tier. The mod's advancements describe the basic loop: craft a disk of the resource type and put it in your Disk Drive.[4]

The recipes come in a few different kinds in this pack. Disks and blocks have shaped crafting recipes, disks also have a shapeless recipe whose id ends in from_storage_housing, and tier-ups use Refined Storage's storage container upgrade recipe type. The recipe dump counts 27 shaped, 9 shapeless and 14 storage container upgrade recipes for this mod.[3]

    Storage block power draw

Every Storage Block tier has its own usage option in the common config. The pack leaves all of them at the mod default, so nothing here is a pack change. Each option accepts values from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, and the config tooltips only say it is the amount used by that block. The sources here do not state the unit.[4][5]

The Energy Storage Block values run up the tiers like this:[5]

The Essentia Storage Blocks have their own matching options, one per tier. For example, the 64K tier is 2 in essentiaStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage.[5]

The Source Storage Blocks are measured in B instead of K, with an option per tier and an infinite one. For example, the 8388608B tier is 16 in sourceStorageBlock.8388608BSourceUsage.[4][5]

The Soul Storage Blocks use a different set of tiers. They start at 1K with a value of 2, as in soulStorageBlock.1KEnergyUsage, and climb in steps of 2 up to 16 for the 2097152K tier (soulStorageBlock.2097152KEnergyUsage). The infinite one is 18, set by soulStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage.[4][5]

Tip: If a big network feels too costly to run, these per-tier options are the place to tune it. Read the numbers as a ladder where each tier up costs 2 more.[5]

    Network Energizer

The Network Energizer has a redstone mode. Its help text says that when the device is inactive, no Energy from Energy Disks will be consumed by the storage network to sustain it. So you can switch that drain off with a redstone signal when you don't need it.[4]

    Breaking blocks

The Storage Blocks, the creative and infinite versions, and the Network Energizer all use the same simple drop rule. The block drops itself and copies over its custom name if you gave it one.[6][7][8][9][10]

How do you progress through Refined Types?

    4 parts

Refined Types adds extra tiers of energy storage for Refined Storage. The pack's recipe list shows the whole ladder: a storage part, a disk and a block at each tier, plus a few special pieces. The ladder runs from the 64K Energy Storage Disk up to the 8388608K Energy Storage Disk, and then the Infinite Energy Storage Disk at the very top.[3]

    The tier ladder

    Starting out at 64K

The first tier is crafted from scratch. You make the 64K Energy Storage Part, then use it for the disk and the block. The block and the disk each have their own shaped recipe.[3]

There is also a shapeless recipe that makes a disk from a storage housing, and it exists for every disk tier including the infinite one.[3]

    Recipe id: refinedtypes:64k_energy_storage_disk_from_storage_housing

    Moving up a tier

From 256K to 8388608K, each block and each disk also has an upgrade recipe. These use the Refined Storage storage container upgrade recipe type, so you can step an existing item up instead of crafting a fresh one. The 64K tier has no upgrade recipe, which makes sense as it is the bottom of the ladder. The infinite tier has none either.[3]

Every finite tier from 64K to 8388608K also has a direct shaped recipe for its part, disk and block, so you can craft any of them without upgrading.[3]

        The top tier

The infinite block and the infinite disk each have a shaped recipe, and the disk can also be made from a storage housing.[3]

Tip: The energy storage blocks included in the pack's data (64K, 256K, 1024K, 262144K and 1048576K) drop themselves when broken and keep a custom name if you gave them one. Rename your important blocks before moving them.[6][11][12][13][14]

Unverified The sources here show no quest in the pack's quest book involving this mod, so there is no quest-guided order for these tiers. The order above comes only from the item names and the recipes. Check the quest chapters in game if you want to see how the pack paces storage.

Which Refined Types config options matter?

        4 parts

Good news: there is very little to fiddle with here. Refined Types has a single config file, and it only holds usage settings for its storage blocks. This pack leaves every one of them at the mod default, so nothing was changed from stock.[5]

The file has four groups: energyStorageBlock, essentiaStorageBlock, soulStorageBlock and sourceStorageBlock. Each group has one option per storage tier, plus one for the infinite tier. Every option accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[5]

        Energy storage block usage

The energy tiers climb in steps of 2, starting at 2 for the smallest tier and ending at 18 for the infinite tier. All of these are the mod defaults.[5]

        Essentia storage block usage

The essentia group mirrors the energy group exactly, with the same tier names and the same values from 2 up to 18. For example, essentiaStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage is 2 and essentiaStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage is 18. Again, these are the mod defaults.[5]

        Soul storage block usage

Soul storage uses different tier sizes, but the same ladder from 2 to 18. All values are the mod defaults.[5]

        Source storage block usage

Source storage follows the same pattern as energy, but the options are named with BSourceUsage and infiniteSourceUsage. These are also the mod defaults.[5]

Tip: Since the pack changes nothing in this file, you can treat the mod's own defaults as the pack's values. If you ever edit one of these options yourself, the allowed range is 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[5]

What changed in Refined Types between versions?

        1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Refined Types version 26.1.2-1.0.2. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

        Mod changelog

        • 26.1.2-1.0.1: added Essentia (thaumaturge) support.[15]
        • 26.1.2-1.0.2: added the missing support for drag-and-dropping Essentia from JEI into filters. This is the version the pack uses.[2][16]

The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so there is nothing to report about changes the pack itself made to Refined Types between releases.[2]
