What is Power Armor?

Power Armor is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.0.7 (file power_armor-1.0.7.jar), and the mod has been included since pack version 1.0.2 or earlier.[1]

How do you get started with Power Armor?

6 parts

Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide

Power Armor adds armor pieces, a Battery, an Armor Modification Table and a set of Armor Modules. The pack has a crafting recipe for each item in this guide, so you can start right away. Here is the order we will go through, with the exact in-pack recipe shown for each step.[2][3]

First: the Machine Frame

Start with the power_armor:machine_frame. Heads up: the pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below.[2][3]

Next: Armor Plating

One craft of power_armor:armor_plating gives you 2 plates.[2][3]

Then: the Armor Modification Table

The power_armor:armor_modification_table has its own energy buffer. Its capacity (energy.capacity.armor_modification_table_energy_capacity) is 256,000 and its transfer (energy.transfer.armor_modification_table_energy_transfer) is 128. Both match the mod defaults.[3][4]

The armor pieces

Now craft the armor pieces: power_armor:power_armor_helmet, power_armor:power_armor_chestplate, power_armor:power_armor_leggings and power_armor:power_armor_boots. The in-pack recipes follow.[2][3]

The armor's energy settings are energy.capacity.power_armor_energy_capacity at 64,000 and energy.transfer.power_armor_energy_transfer at 32. Both are the mod defaults.[4]

The Battery

The power_armor:battery is an item with its own energy storage. Its capacity (energy.capacity.battery_energy_capacity) is 64,000 and its transfer (energy.transfer.battery_energy_transfer) is 32, the same numbers as the armor.[3][4]

Modules

Modules start from the power_armor:armor_module_blank. One craft makes 3 of them.[2][3]

The mod has these modules, and every one has its own recipe in the pack:[2][3]

Tip: The Armor Plating Module is set to 200 energy usage, far above the 1 or 2 of the night vision, speed and jetpack modules. Keep that in mind when you plan your energy supply.[4]

How does Power Armor work?

4 parts

Power Armor is built around energy. The armor, the Battery and the machines all have an energy buffer and a transfer rate, and the modules you fit to the armor either use energy or produce it. Every energy value in this pack's config file is the same as the mod's own default, so the pack hasn't rebalanced any of them.[5]

Energy storage and transfer

The table, the Battery, the armor and the Compressor each have a capacity and a transfer rate, with their own config options. Here is how they compare in this pack:[5]

The Battery, the armor and the Compressor all share the same transfer rate of 32. Only the Armor Modification Table is higher, at 128.[5]

Module energy values

Each module that uses or makes energy has its own number in the config. These are the pack's values:[5]

The power_armor:armor_module_laser has no energy option in this config file, so there is no energy figure for it here.[5]

The Compressor

The mod has a Compressor machine with a buffer of 16,000 (energy.capacity.compressor_energy_capacity) that uses 8 energy per tick (energy.usage.compressor_energy_usage). In this pack, though, it is shut out of the recipe system. The pack's script removes it from the item tags, hides it from recipe viewers, and removes every recipe that makes it or uses it as an input, except Integrated Dynamics facade recipes. It also removes the Compressor's compressing category from the recipe viewer, so don't plan on building a Compressor setup in this pack.[3][5][6]

Crafting the core pieces

The power_armor:machine_frame recipe is one the pack has changed from the mod's version, so go by the recipe shown here.[7]

The Battery uses the mod's own recipe too.

power_armor:armor_module_blank comes out 3 at a time from one craft, and power_armor:armor_plating comes out 2 at a time. The pack leaves both recipes as the mod made them.[7]

How do you progress through Power Armor?

4 parts

Power Armor in this pack covers power_armor:armor_plating, the power_armor:battery, the power_armor:machine_frame, the power_armor:armor_modification_table, the armor pieces and a set of armor modules. The exact in-pack recipe for each one is shown below.[7]

What the pack changes

The Machine Frame is the one recipe here that the pack has changed from the mod's own. Use this version, not what you may remember from the mod by itself.[7]

The pack also removes the mod's Compressor from play. Recipes that make or use it are removed, it is hidden from recipe viewers, and the compressing category is taken out of the recipe viewer. If you remember the Compressor from the mod on its own, you won't find it in this pack.[6]

Start with the parts the rest of the gear is built around. Armor Plating gives you 2 per craft, and Blank Armor Modules give you 3 per craft.[7]

Which Power Armor config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide

Everything tweakable for Power Armor lives in one file, config/power_armor-common.toml. Here's the good news: in this pack every option in that file is set to the mod's own default, so the pack changes nothing. Every option also accepts any value above 0.[4]

Energy capacity

Energy transfer and compressor usage

Module energy

Tip: The Plating Module's usage of 200 is far higher than any other module's usage in this file (the next highest is 2), so it's the one to keep an eye on when you plan your armor's power budget.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as power_armor, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
