Mystian Apiary is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 1.10. A multiblock apiary expansion for Productive Bees! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Mystian Apiary?

2 parts

Mystian Apiary runs your Productive Bees in place inside a compact 3x3x3 multiblock. No bees ever fly off, and everything they make is collected for you. The pack includes version 1.9 of the mod.[1][2]

How the multiblock fits together

At the centre sits a Honeycomb Block, wrapped in a cube of logs. Four boxes are set into its sides: the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller, in any arrangement. Every other spot in the cube can be any log, normal or stripped.[3]

  • The Bee Box holds your bees as filled Productive Bees cages: 27 slots to start, up to 108 at higher tiers.[4]
  • The Flower Box holds the flowers and blocks your bees need. Flowers are never used up, and a bee with no valid flower just waits until you add one.[4]
  • The Storage collects everything the bees make. If it fills up, the bees pause until there is room, so nothing is lost.[4]
  • The Controller runs the apiary and has five upgrade slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge.[4][5]

If you want more room, the log directly above the Honeycomb Block can be swapped for a second Storage box. It is optional, and server owners can disable it with the allowSecondOutput config.[3]

With Applied Energistics 2 installed, an ME Storage Interface can replace either Storage position and send products to your ME network.[4]

Tip: The mod ships an in-game guidebook that walks you through the structure, operation and upgrades, so you can check it any time while you build.[1][6]

How do you get started with Mystian Apiary?

6 parts

Mystian Apiary runs your Productive Bees in place inside a compact 3x3x3 multiblock. No bees fly off, and everything they make is collected for you. Here is what to make first, in order.[1]

First, craft the Apiary Guide

The Apiary Guide is the mod's in-game guide. It covers the structure, the boxes, operation, upgrades and genes, so it is worth having on you while you build.[1]

Next, craft the four boxes

The apiary needs one each of the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller. Each recipe below is the one this pack actually loads.[3][8]

The Apiary Controller runs the apiary and has five upgrade slots.

Then, build the multiblock

  1. Place a Honeycomb Block as the center.[3]
  2. Put one each of the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller on the north, south, east and west sides of it, in any arrangement.[3]
  3. Fill every other spot in the 3x3x3 cube with logs. Normal or stripped both work.[3]
  4. Open the Controller screen to check the build. It tells you whether the structure is in one piece and shows "All modules present!" when it is right.[4][9]

Finally, add bees and flowers

  1. Click a Bee Box slot with a filled Productive Bees cage to add a bee. Click with an empty cage to take it back out.[4][10]
  2. Put whatever your bees want into the Flower Box. Many bees want a specific block rather than a flower, such as an ore bee's ore.[4][10]
  3. Watch the green bar on each bee's slot, then pull the results out of the Storage by hand, or with hoppers and pipes.[10]
Tip: A bee with no valid flower just waits and starts again the moment you add one. If the Storage fills up, bees pause until there is room, and nothing is lost.[4][10]

What this pack changes

The pack sets apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier to 1.25, where the mod default is 2. A value of 1 means no change and 2 means half the base process time, so the apiary's base speed in this pack is lower than the mod default.[11]

Speed upgrades in the Controller make bees finish batches faster, and you can stack up to 4 in the slot.[5][10]

Where to go next

Each box comes in four tiers, and every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. You can craft a higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already down. It bumps the box up one tier and keeps everything inside. The pack has changed several of the upgrade recipes, including the one below.[4][8]

The pack has changed this recipe. Upgrades go one tier at a time and tiers can't be skipped.

Need more room for output? The log directly above the Honeycomb Block can be replaced with a second Storage box of any tier. This pack leaves apiary.allowSecondOutput set to true.[3][11]

How does Mystian Apiary work?

7 parts

The Mystian Apiary runs your Productive Bees in place inside a compact 3x3x3 multiblock. No bee ever flies off, and everything they make is collected for you. This section walks through how the structure, the boxes, the upgrades and the pack's config values fit together.[1][3]

Building the multiblock

Working out from the middle, the centre is a Honeycomb Block. North, south, east and west of it you place one each of the Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller, in any arrangement. Every other spot in the cube is a log, and normal or stripped logs both work.[3][12][13]

The Controller screen shows how many bees are working and whether the structure is in one piece. It reports "All modules present!", "Missing modules!" or "Too many modules detected!", so a wrong build is easy to spot.[4][9]

Optional second Storage

The log directly above the Honeycomb Block (top-center) can be replaced with a second Storage box of any tier. Produce fills the main side box first and only spills into the second once that box is full, though a partly filled stack in the second box is always topped up first. Fluids overflow the same way.[3]

This is controlled by apiary.allowSecondOutput, which is set to true in this pack, so you can use it.[3][11]

The boxes and their tiers

  • Bee Box: holds your bees, 27 slots to start and up to 108. You add a bee by clicking a slot with a filled Productive Bees cage, and take it back with an empty cage. Each slot shows a green progress bar, and your bees stay safe even if the structure breaks.[4]
  • Flower Box: 27 slots to start and up to 108. Flowers are never used up, so one of each is enough. Some bees, like lumber and quarry bees, pick a random valid block each batch, so offering several gives you a mix of outputs.[4]
  • Storage: 27 slots to start and up to 108, and higher tiers also hold more per slot. Items per slot go 64, 256, 1,024, then 4,096. Fluid goes 32k, 128k, 512k, then 1 million mB.[4]

The Bee, Flower and Storage boxes each come in four tiers, and every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. Only Storage also gains capacity per slot. You can spot a tier from the trim: plain, then silver, gold, and bright cyan at the top.[4]

There are two ways to raise a tier. You can craft the higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already placed. The upgrade bumps it up one tier and keeps everything inside. Tiers can't be skipped, so upgrades go one at a time.[4][9]

The recipe dump marks the Tier 3 boxes and the Box Upgrade items as changed by the pack, so check the recipe viewer instead of assuming the mod defaults.[8]

The Bee Box Upgrade (Tier 1) is also changed by the pack.

    How the bees work

Each bee takes a little while to make its product, and the bar on its slot shows the progress. A bee with no valid flower just waits and starts again the moment you add one. If the Storage fills up, bees pause until there is room, and nothing is lost. The slot tooltips say which case you are in: awaiting empty storage space, missing valid flower, or resting.[4][9][10]

The base speed is set by apiary.apiaryBaseSpeedMultiplier. A value of 1 means no change and 2 means half the base process time. The pack sets it to 1.25, where the mod default is 2.[11]

The Productive Bees genes mostly matter for bees out in the world. Inside the apiary the one that counts is Productivity: a higher gene means a bee makes more each batch, and it adds on top of the Productivity upgrade. Hover a bee in the Bee Box to see its genes.[14]

The mod can optionally simulate other genes. apiary.respectBehaviorGene, apiary.respectWeatherGene and apiary.respectEnduranceGene are all false in this pack. So bees do not pause at night or in bad weather because of those genes, and the endurance gene does not change cycle time.[11]

A couple more tuning options are worth knowing. apiary.maxCompletionsPerTick is a soft cap on slot completions per tick to smooth out bursts, set to 12 here, and 0 disables it. apiary.randomizedRerollIntervalCompletions makes randomized bees keep the same selected flower for 40 completions before rerolling.[11]

    Controller upgrades

The Controller has five upgrade slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge. These improve how the bees work, and they are separate from the box tiers, which just give you more room.[4][5]

    • Speed: bees finish their batches faster. You can stack up to 4 in the slot.[5]
    • Productivity: bees produce more each batch. It comes in Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Omega strengths, stacks up to 4, and adds on top of a bee's Productivity gene.[5]
    • Block: bees hand you comb blocks instead of loose honeycombs, which is tidier to store and haul.[5]
    • Gene Sampler: every so often it pulls a gene out of a working bee and drops it in the Storage. Adding more than one gives a better chance.[5]
    • Centrifuge: runs every comb through its centrifuge recipe automatically, so you collect the finished items and fluids instead of raw combs. Combs with no centrifuge recipe pass straight through, unchanged and never multiplied.[5]

    Centrifuge multipliers in this pack

The Centrifuge upgrade comes in four tiers that multiply its output. The mod's own guide lists 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x, but the pack changed the top two tiers. Here the base is 1x, Tier 1 is 2x, Tier 2 is 3x (mod default 4) and Tier 3 is 4x (mod default 8).[5][11]

    The values live in apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierBase, apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier1, apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier2 and apiary.centrifuge.centrifugeMultiplierTier3.[11]

    Automation

Hoppers, pipes and similar can feed the Bee and Flower boxes and empty the Storage, so the whole apiary can run on its own.[10]

With Applied Energistics 2 installed, the ME Storage Interface can replace either Storage position. It sends both item and fluid products to a powered, channel-connected ME network in the same production tick.[4]

    • Only one interface may be attached to an apiary. A second one makes the apiary invalid.[4][9]
    • The interface always receives output before physical Storage Boxes. Anything the network rejects falls through to the side Storage and then the top Storage.[4]
    • If every destination is full, the bee waits with its output safely queued. Overflow already stored in a physical box is not imported when the network returns.[4]
    • Sneak-use the interface to cycle Always Active, Active with Signal and Active without Signal.[4][9]

How do you progress through Mystian Apiary?

    8 parts

Mystian Apiary runs your Productive Bees inside a compact 3x3x3 multiblock, so no bees fly off. Progression splits into more room (box tiers) and better bee output (Controller upgrades). The pack's recipe changes sit on the box tier steps, so it helps to know which is which.[1][3][4]

    The base apiary

A Honeycomb Block goes in the centre and logs wrap the cube. The Bee Box, Flower Box, Storage and Controller go on the north, south, east and west sides, in any arrangement. Every other spot is any logs, normal or stripped.[3][12][13]

    Box tiers

The Bee, Flower and Storage boxes each come in four tiers. Every tier adds another 27 slots, up to 108. You can spot the tier by the trim: plain, then silver, gold, and bright cyan at the top.[4]

Storage also holds more per slot as it climbs. Items go 64, then 256, 1,024 and 4,096. Fluid goes 32k, 128k, 512k and 1 million mB. The Bee and Flower boxes just gain slots.[4]

There are two ways up. You can craft the higher box and place it, or use a Box Upgrade item on a box that is already placed, which bumps it one tier and keeps everything inside. Upgrades go one tier at a time.[4]

In this pack, the Tier 3 boxes (Bee Box (Tier 3), Flower Box (Tier 3), Storage Box (Tier 3)) are marked as changed by the pack, and so are the Box Upgrade items for each tier. The Tier 1 and Tier 2 boxes are the mod's own versions. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[8]

                      Controller upgrades

The Controller has five upgrade slots: Speed, Productivity, Block, Gene Sampler and Centrifuge. These are separate from box tiers: one improves how bees work, the other gives you more room. Most slots take the usual Productive Bees upgrades.[4][5]

                      • Speed makes bees finish batches faster. Stack up to 4 in the slot.[5]
                      • Productivity makes bees produce more per batch. It comes in Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Omega strengths, stacks up to 4, and adds on top of a bee's Productivity gene.[5]
                      • Block makes bees give you comb blocks instead of loose honeycombs.[5]
                      • Gene Sampler now and then pulls a gene out of a working bee and drops it in the Storage. More than one improves the chance.[5]

Inside the apiary, Productivity is the gene that counts. Hover over a bee in the Bee Box to check its genes.[14]

                      The Centrifuge upgrade

Centrifuge Upgrade runs every comb through its centrifuge recipe automatically, so you collect finished items and fluids. Combs with no centrifuge recipe pass through unchanged. It has four tiers that multiply output: base 1x, Tier 1 2x, Tier 2 4x and Tier 3 8x. Combs without a recipe are never multiplied, and the amounts can be changed in the config.[5][8]

The Centrifuge recipes below are the mod's own, not changed by the pack.[8]

                      Optional extras

The log directly above the Honeycomb Block can be replaced with a second Storage box of any tier. Produce fills the main side box first and only spills into the second once that one is full. Server owners can disable this option.[3]

With Applied Energistics 2 installed, ME Storage Interface can replace either Storage position and send products to a powered, channel-connected ME network. Only one interface may be attached to an apiary. The block and its recipe are only registered while AE2 is installed.[4][18]

Which Mystian Apiary config options matter?

                      4 parts

Everything for Mystian Apiary lives in one file, config/mystianapiary-common.toml. This pack changes three values from the mod defaults, and they all affect how fast and how rewarding your apiary is, so those come first.[11]

                      What this pack changed

                      Centrifuge multipliers

Each centrifuge upgrade tier has its own output multiplier for centrifuge produce, both items and fluids. Combs without a centrifuge product are never multiplied. Every tier option accepts values from 1 to 64. The two higher tiers are the ones this pack lowered, listed above.[11]

                      Options left as they are

                      • apiary.allowSecondOutput is true, so you can add an optional second Storage box at the top-center of the multiblock, replacing the log directly above the Honeycomb Block.[11]
                      • apiary.maxCompletionsPerTick is 12, the same as the mod default. It is a soft cap on slot completions processed per tick to smooth out bursts, and setting it to 0 disables it. The range is 0 to 108.[11]
                      • apiary.randomizedRerollIntervalCompletions is 40, the same as the mod default. Randomized bees keep the same selected flower for this many completions before rerolling. The range is 1 to 6000.[11]

                      Gene options are all off

apiary.respectBehaviorGene, apiary.respectEnduranceGene and apiary.respectWeatherGene are all false here. With them off, the apiary keeps its always-on balance: bees do not pause at night or in bad weather, and the endurance gene does not alter cycle time.[11]

If you ever need to troubleshoot, apiary.debugBeeProduce logs bee produce resolution to the console. It is false in this pack.[11]

What changed in Mystian Apiary between versions?

                      1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Mystian Apiary 1.9. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so this is not a new addition for you.[2]

What changed in Mystian Apiary 1.9

                      • New optional Applied Energistics 2 integration, across all three Minecraft versions the mod supports. When AE2 is installed, the ME Storage Interface can replace either apiary Storage position. It sends produced items and fluids directly into a powered, channel-connected ME network.[19]
                      • Bug fix: clicking bees in the Bee Box could crash with newer JEI versions.[19]

The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so there is nothing further to report on how the pack itself has changed Mystian Apiary between releases.[2][19]
