Mob Flow Utilities is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 3.2.1.9-mc-26.1.2. A mob farming automation mod. Yup (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Mob Flow Utilities?

2 parts

Mob Flow Utilities is a mob farming automation mod, and this pack ships version 3.2.1.8-mc-26.1.2 of it. It gives you the pieces to move mobs, hurt them, collect what they drop, and even spawn them in the first place.[1][2]

What you get

  • Flow Pads push mobs and items in the direction you place them, and the Fan pushes mobs in the direction it faces. Fan upgrade modules increase its area of effect.[1]
  • Damage Pads are managed by a Controller. One Controller can run multiple pads across multiple farms, and you link pads to it with the Pad Wrench. It has 5 damage enchantment slots (Sharpness, Fire Aspect, Smite, Bane of Arthropods and Looting), each taking up to 10 modules. Pads need a redstone signal and stop Endermen from teleporting.[1]
  • The Collector Block has a configurable collection area that modules can enlarge. It can store XP as a fluid and trash junk with up to 3 filter modules, 45 slots per filter.[1]
  • The Genesis Chamber spawns mobs from spawn eggs using furnace-style fuel. It covers a 5x5 area, expandable to 10x10 with modules, and spawns every 200 ticks by default, down to 50 ticks with Speed Modules.[1]
  • The Genesis Infuser turns coal and charcoal into Infused Coal and Infused Charcoal using 125mB of liquid XP per item. Each burns 8x longer than its vanilla counterpart.[1]

Spawning without eggs

Gloom Spores turn dirt into Dark Dirt over a 5x5 area. Dark Dirt spawns hostile mobs in darkness, ignores player proximity, and reverts to dirt in direct sunlight. Glimmer Sprouts do the same for passive mobs, making Glimmer Grass that works in bright light. The mod page lists up to 12 mobs per area by default, which can be changed in the config.[1]

There are also some handy extras. The Mob Catcher captures and releases any non-boss mob, and the gene sampling items let you turn collected DNA into spawn eggs. Dark Glass and Glimmer Lamp are the decorative blocks.[1]

How do you get started with Mob Flow Utilities?

5 parts

Mob Flow Utilities is a mob farming automation mod. In this pack the sensible order is: get mobs spawning, move them, kill them, then collect what they drop. Here is what to craft first and why.[1]

Step 1: Give the mobs somewhere to spawn

Start with a Gloom Spore if you want hostile mobs. It turns dirt-like blocks into Dark Dirt, which spawns hostile mobs at accelerated rates. The conversion area is a 5x5 square centered on the block you click, and the pack leaves that at its default of 5 in gloom_spore.conversion_area.[1][3][4]

Gloom SporeMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

  • any chicken food

Recipe id: mobflowutilities:gloom_spore

Craft one Gloom Spore to convert a 5x5 patch of dirt.

Dark Dirt works in darkness, ignores player proximity and reverts to dirt in direct sunlight, so build your farm under a roof. The pack keeps the limit at 12 hostile mobs per area through dark_dirt.mobs_per_area.[1][4]

For passive mobs, use a Glimmer Sprout instead. It makes Glimmer Grass, which spawns passive mobs in bright light, also over a 5x5 area.[1][3][4]

Step 2: Move the mobs

Flow Pads push mobs and items in the direction you place them, so they are the backbone of any farm. Start with the Fast Flow Pad. Faster and Fastest versions also exist when you want to upgrade later.[1][3]

Step 3: Kill them automatically

Damage Pads do the killing, and a Controller manages many of them across several farms. You link pads to the controller with the Pad Wrench, which has Add and Remove modes and can select a single pad or an area. The setup needs a redstone signal to work.[1]

In this pack a pad can be linked from up to 8 blocks away (damage_pad.connection_radius), and one controller can link up to 25 pads (damage_pad.max_connected_pads). Both match the mod defaults, so plan your layout around them.[4]

Damage Pads have 5 damage enchantment slots, with up to 10 modules per slot. The module types are Sharpness, Fire Aspect, Smite, Bane of Arthropods and Looting, for example the Sharpness Module and Looting Module.[1]

Step 4: Collect the drops

The Collector has a configurable collection area and size, which modules can increase. It can also collect and store XP as a fluid, and up to 3 filter modules can trash junk automatically.[1]

How does Mob Flow Utilities work?

9 parts

Mob Flow Utilities is built around mob farming automation. In this pack, the machine blocks are the Controller, the Collector, the Genesis Chamber and the Fan. The pad family is the Damage Pad plus the Flow Pad tiers. This section walks through how each piece works.[1][6][7]

Moving mobs: Flow Pads and the Fan

Flow Pads push mobs and items in the direction you place them. They come in these tiers: Fast Flow Pad, Faster Flow Pad and Fastest Flow Pad.[1][3][7]

The Fan pushes mobs in the direction it faces, and you can upgrade it. There are separate upgrades for blowing distance (Fan Distance Increase Module), height (Fan Height Increase Module) and width (Fan Width Increase Module).[1][3]

Damage Pads and the Controller

One Controller manages multiple Damage Pads, even across several farms. The pads need a redstone signal to work, and they also stop Endermen from teleporting. The damage side is modular: there are 5 damage enchantment slots, each taking up to 10 modules. The module types are Sharpness Module, Fire Aspect Module, Smite Module, Bane of Arthropods Module and Looting Module.[1][8]

A Controller's setup is limited by the config. damage_pad.connection_radius is the maximum distance in blocks between a pad and its Controller, and damage_pad.max_connected_pads is the maximum number of pads one Controller can have. The pack sets them to 8 and 25, which are the mod defaults.[4]

You link pads to a Controller with the Pad Wrench. Here is how it behaves:[1][3]

  1. Use the wrench on a Controller to select it as the target.[3]
  2. Use the wrench on a pad to link it to the selected Controller, or to unlink it when the wrench is in Unlink Mode.[3]
  3. Shift+Right-click to toggle between Link Mode and Unlink Mode.[3]
  4. Right-click to toggle between Single and Multi selection, which lets you handle several pads in one go.[1][3]

The wrench tells you when a link fails. You will see a message if you have not selected a Controller, if the Controller is full, or if the pad is too far away. In multi-selection, pads that are too far or that do not fit on a full Controller are skipped and reported.[3]

Collector

The Collector has a configurable collection area and size, and modules can increase it. Its screen has separate Down/Up, East/West and North/South offsets so you can shift the area where you need it. It can also collect and store XP as a fluid.[1][3]

To deal with junk drops, the Collector can automatically trash items using up to 3 filter modules, with 45 slots per filter.[1]

Genesis Chamber and fuel

The Genesis Chamber spawns mobs from spawn eggs, and it needs fuel to run. By default it spawns in a 5x5 area around itself, and modules can expand that to 10x10. The base spawn interval is 200 ticks, and Speed Modules bring it down to 50 ticks. It follows vanilla spawning rules, so hostile mobs need darkness and passive mobs need light.[1][3]

The chamber stops spawning once its zone holds the number of mobs set by genesis_chamber.spawn_cap. The pack keeps this at the default of 12. You can turn the spawner particles off with genesis_chamber.particles_enabled.[1][4]

Accepted fuels are coal, charcoal, coal blocks, blaze rods and lava buckets, along with Infused Coal, Infused Charcoal and anything in the vanilla coals tag.[9]

Genesis Infuser and Infused Coal

The Genesis Infuser turns coal and charcoal into longer-burning fuel by infusing them with experience. Infused Coal and Infused Charcoal burn 8x longer than the vanilla versions, so one is enough to smelt a stack of 64 items.[1][3]

Each infused item costs 125 mB of Liquid XP, so a full bucket makes 8 items. The base processing time is 200 ticks per item, and Speed Modules reduce it. Both values are the mod defaults, set by genesis_infuser.xp_cost and genesis_infuser.process_ticks.[1][4]

Fluid storage: Giga Tank

The Giga Tank holds 1024 buckets. The pack changed its crafting recipe from the mod's own.[3][5]

Mob-spawning blocks

Dark Dirt and Glimmer Grass are the mod's accelerated spawning blocks. You make them by using a Gloom Spore or a Glimmer Sprout on dirt-like blocks. Each one converts a square area centered on the block you click, 5x5 by default. The size is set by gloom_spore.conversion_area and glimmer_sprout.conversion_area, and the pack keeps both at 5.[1][3][4]

Dark Dirt spawns hostile mobs. It works in darkness, ignores player proximity, and reverts to dirt in direct sunlight. Giving it a redstone signal speeds up its spawn rate for faster bursts. Glimmer Grass does the same job for passive mobs, but it works in bright light.[1][3]

Both blocks check for spawns every 20 ticks and aim for 12 mobs per 16x16 area. These are the mod defaults, and the pack leaves them untouched. The options are dark_dirt.check_interval, dark_dirt.mobs_per_area, glimmer_grass.check_interval and glimmer_grass.mobs_per_area. Each block also has a particles toggle, dark_dirt.particles_enabled and glimmer_grass.particles_enabled.[4]

Tip: Dark Dirt and Glimmer Grass only drop themselves when you mine them with Silk Touch. Otherwise you get plain dirt, so use Silk Touch if you want to move a spawning block.[10][11]

Gene sampling and the Mob Catcher

The Empty Gene Vial collects DNA when you Shift-Right-click a mob, and it cannot sample players. The resulting Gene Sample Vial holds that DNA, and you can craft it into a spawn egg. This does not work on bosses, except the Warden.[1][3]

The Mob Catcher captures and releases any non-boss mob. Shift+Right-click a mob to capture it, then Shift+Right-click a block to release it. It cannot capture bosses or players. A release fails if the block is not solid or there is not enough space.[1][3]

Decorative blocks

Dark Glass blocks light and is Wither immune. Glimmer Lamp emits light when powered with redstone.[1][3]

Which Mob Flow Utilities config options matter?

3 parts

Every option for Mob Flow Utilities lives in one file: config/mobflowutilities-common.toml. Good news: in this pack every numeric value in that file is exactly the mod default, so nothing has been changed. The ranges below are the limits the file allows if you want to tweak things yourself.[4]

Damage Pads

Mob spawning blocks

Dark Dirt and Glimmer Grass share the same three kinds of options, and the pack keeps the same values for both.[4]

The conversion area options, gloom_spore.conversion_area and glimmer_sprout.conversion_area, are both 5 in this pack. The area is a square centered on the block you click, so you convert a 5x5 patch. The range is 3 to 15.[4]

Genesis Chamber and Genesis Infuser

Watch out: Raising mobs_per_area, spawn_cap or max_connected_pads makes bigger farms possible, but the config comments warn that higher numbers may impact performance.[4]

What changed in Mob Flow Utilities between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Mob Flow Utilities version 3.2.1.8-mc-26.1.2. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new arrival in this release.[2]

Mod changelog

  • 3.2.1.8-mc-26.1.2 (the version in this pack): the void filter was removed, some sprites were cleaned up, and issue #9 was fixed.[2][12]

If you used the void filter in an earlier version of the mod, it is no longer in the version this pack includes.[2][12]
