What is Get It Together, Drops!?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Get It Together, Drops! is a small utility mod that controls how dropped items combine on the ground. It adds two configuration options and two item tags. That's all it does, and it doesn't add any new items or blocks.[1]

Its main job is performance. When you have lots of dropped items in one spot, like an explosion crater or a farm, combining them more aggressively can help a lot.[1]

What you can tune

  • radius: a value from 0.5 to 500 that sets how far a dropped item searches for other drops to combine with. A setting of 5.0 searches 5 blocks in all directions, and 0.5 is vanilla behavior. Walls are not taken into account.[1]
  • checkY: set it to true and dropped items also check above and below themselves. False is vanilla behavior.[1]
  • The tag getittogetherdrops:do_not_combine stops the items in it from combining at all.[1]
  • The tag getittogetherdrops:ignored makes the mod skip the items in it, so they fall back to vanilla behavior. This tag takes precedence over do_not_combine.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who farms or blows up a lot of stuff and wants fewer item entities lying around. It can be installed on a server without players needing it, and it also works in singleplayer.[1]

In this pack

This pack, at version 8.1, includes Get It Together, Drops! 1.4 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.5. It was already in the pack as of version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Tip: On Forge-style setups the mod's settings live in the serverconfig folder of your world's folder, so look there if you want to change radius or checkY for a particular world.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show whether this pack changes any default values for radius or checkY, or whether it adds items to the two tags. They also don't show any quests or a place on the ATM Star path for this mod, so check your own config before relying on specific values.

How do you get started with Get It Together, Drops!?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft here. Get It Together, Drops! doesn't add items you need to make, and no recipes in the pack produce anything from it. It works in the background and changes how dropped items on the ground combine into stacks.[1]

What it does for you

The mod adds two configuration options that control how dropped items combine. That can significantly improve performance in places with lots of dropped items, like explosion craters or farms. It can also run on a server without players installing it, and it works in singleplayer.[1]

The two options to know

  • radius sets how far, in blocks, a dropped item looks around itself for other dropped items to combine with. It accepts values from 0.5 to 500, and 0.5 is vanilla behavior. For example, 5.0 searches 5 blocks in all directions. The check doesn't take walls into account.[1][3]
  • checkY decides whether dropped items also check above and below themselves. Set it to true to include those checks. False is vanilla behavior.[1][3]

Controlling specific items

The mod also has two item tags for fine control. Items in getittogetherdrops:do_not_combine never combine at all. Items in getittogetherdrops:ignored are skipped by the mod and fall back to vanilla behavior. The ignored tag takes precedence over do_not_combine.[1]

Tip: If you're changing the radius, remember that a larger value means each dropped item searches a bigger area. Increase it gradually. The mod's stated limit is 500.[1]

Unverified The values this pack actually uses for radius and checkY, and whether it changes the default tags, can't be confirmed from the available sources. Check the config in your world's serverconfig folder if you need the exact values.

How does Get It Together, Drops! work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Get It Together, Drops! has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids. It does one job: it controls how dropped items on the ground merge into stacks. Two config options and two item tags are the whole mod, and the sources describe nothing else.[1]

It can help performance in places with lots of dropped items, like explosion craters or farms. It can be installed on a server without players needing it, and it also works in singleplayer.[1]

The two config options

  • radius: the size of the area in which a dropped item searches for other dropped items to combine with. The range is 0.5 to 500, and 0.5 is vanilla behavior. Setting it to 5.0 searches 5 blocks in all directions around the item.[1][3]
  • checkY: set it to true and dropped items also check above and below themselves. Set it to false and they don't. False is vanilla behavior.[1][3]
Watch out: The radius check does not take walls into account. A dropped item can combine with another item on the far side of a wall if it is within range.[1]

Item tags for fine control

Two item tags let you control specific items. Items in getittogetherdrops:do_not_combine do not combine at all. Items in getittogetherdrops:ignored are ignored by the mod and fall back to vanilla behavior.[1]

Tip: If an item is in both tags, getittogetherdrops:ignored wins over getittogetherdrops:do_not_combine, so the item behaves as in vanilla.[1]

What this pack does with it

Unverified The pack ships no config files for this mod, and no recipes produce its items. The values the pack uses for radius and checkY, and any items it puts in the two tags, could not be confirmed. The numbers above are the mod's documented options and vanilla defaults, not confirmed pack settings.

Which Get It Together, Drops! config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.51 guide

This mod only has two config options, and both control how dropped items merge on the ground. Both live in the server config file, and the pack changes both of them away from vanilla behavior. That makes item piles in explosion craters and farms combine more aggressively than you'd normally see.[1][4]

  • radius is set to 2 in this pack. It is the distance in blocks that a dropped item searches around itself for other items to combine with. The allowed range is 0.5 to 500, and 0.5 is vanilla behavior, so the pack's search area is wider than vanilla.[1][4]
  • checkY is set to true in this pack. This makes dropped items also look above and below themselves when searching for items to merge with. False is vanilla behavior, so the pack changes this too.[1][4]
Tip: The radius check does not take walls into account, so items on the other side of a wall can still combine if they are within range.[1]

Item tags for specific items

The mod also has two item tags for controlling individual items. Items in getittogetherdrops:do_not_combine never combine at all. Items in getittogetherdrops:ignored are left alone by the mod and fall back to vanilla behavior. The ignored tag takes precedence over do_not_combine.[1]

Unverified The sources don't say which items, if any, the pack puts in these two tags, so check them in-game before relying on them.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as getittogetherdrops, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
