What is FTB Obsidian?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

FTB Obsidian is part of the mod list in this pack. The pack ships version 21.1.0 (the file is ftb-obsidian-21.1.0.jar), and the mod was first included in this pack version or an earlier one.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Obsidian does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is no platform description or in-jar guidebook to draw on, so I'm not guessing at its features, items or recipes. No quests in this pack are known to involve the mod, and it is not on the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with FTB Obsidian?

2 parts

I'd love to give you a crafting order for FTB Obsidian here, but the pack data I have for it doesn't show one. What it does show is how the pack sets up resource packs through the mod's startup config, so that's what this section covers.[2]

Resource packs the pack loads for you

The option packs.force_loaded is a list of resource packs that get enabled automatically. The resource pack has to exist in your resourcepacks folder for that to work. The default is an empty list, but this pack fills it with these entries: Slightly-Improved-Font, Construction Sticks Grips and Slim Fire.[2]

So if you see those packs already switched on, that's the pack doing it, not something you did wrong.[2]

Forced compatibility

The option packs.forced_compatible lists resource packs that are treated as compatible with the current Minecraft version, even if they would normally be flagged as incompatible. The default is an empty list. This pack sets it to neovitae_materials and mod/ftbic:contex_compat.[2]

Tip: If you add your own resource packs, these two options are the ones to look at first. Force loading only works for packs that are in your resourcepacks folder.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no crafting recipes, quests or in-game descriptions for FTB Obsidian in this pack, so there is no first-items order to give you. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does FTB Obsidian work?

1 part

The only detail the sources show for FTB Obsidian in this pack is its startup config, and that covers resource pack handling. Nothing about machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation is confirmed, so this section stays short.[2]

Resource pack handling

The startup config has two options that control resource packs. Both are empty lists by default, and this pack fills both of them.[2]

  • packs.force_loaded is the list of resource packs that get loaded automatically. A pack is only enabled if it exists in the resourcepacks folder. This pack lists Slightly-Improved-Font-1.1.5.zip, Construction Sticks Grips 26.zip and a Slim Fire zip.[2]
  • packs.forced_compatible is the list of resource packs that are treated as compatible with the current Minecraft version, even if they would normally be marked as incompatible. This pack lists neovitae_materials and mod/ftbic:contex_compat.[2]
Tip: If you add your own resource pack and want it switched on automatically, it has to be in the resourcepacks folder and listed in the force-loaded option. The entries already there are part of this pack's setup, so keep them in place unless you mean to change them.[2]

Which FTB Obsidian config options matter?

2 parts

The startup config for FTB Obsidian is all about resource packs, and this pack changes both of its options from the mod default. They matter if you ever wonder why a resource pack is switched on for you, or why one shows up as compatible.[2]

Force loaded resource packs

packs.force_loaded is a list of resource packs that get enabled automatically. The mod default is an empty list, but this pack fills it. The resource pack must exist in the resourcepacks folder for it to be enabled automatically. This pack lists these entries:[2]

Forced compatible resource packs

packs.forced_compatible lists resource packs that are treated as compatible with the current Minecraft version, even if they would normally be marked as incompatible. The mod default is an empty list. This pack sets it to neovitae_materials and mod/ftbic:contex_compat.[2]

Tip: Both options live in config/ftbobsidian-startup.json5, and both differ from the mod default of an empty list. If you edit them, remember that the values above are the pack's, not the mod's.[2]

"From pack files" means the list came from the pack's own files; "from the published release" means ForgeBase read the jars of the release itself.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ftbobsidian, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
