What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
FramedBlocks is a building mod. It adds blocks in lots of different shapes, and each one can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. This pack includes version 11.4.0.[1][2]
The shape list is huge. It covers cubes, slabs, panels, stairs and slopes, plus several kinds of corners. There are also functional blocks like doors, trapdoors, fences, pressure plates, buttons, levers, ladders, signs, torches and chests. If you build a lot, this gives you far more shapes to work with in whatever material you like.[1]
How you use it
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. Right click with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid look.[1]
- Right click with Glowstone Dust to make the block produce light.[1]
- Right click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
Handy tools
- The Framed Wrench rotates a framed block. On most blocks, the result depends on which face you click.[1]
- The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]
- The Framed Blueprint copies a framed block, including its camo and glowing state. It does not copy the block's rotation.[1]
- The Framed Key locks certain framed blocks in their current shape so neighbor updates do not change it. That lets you place things like Framed Stairs in a corner shape without the usual neighbors.[1]
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
FramedBlocks gives you building blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. So you don't need a different block for every material. You need the shapes, and then you pick the look.[1]
Start with the Framed Cube
The Framed Cube is the first shape in the mod's shape list. It's a good first craft, because you can see how a framed block behaves before you move on to fancier shapes. The recipe below is the exact one used in this pack.[1][3]

The Camo Applicator and the Framed Blueprint both have their own crafting recipes in this pack, shown below.[3]

Branch out into other shapes
Once you're comfortable with the cube, the mod offers a long list of shapes. These include slopes (which can also be placed vertically), slabs, panels, stairs, doors, chests and rail slopes. Some shapes have a special placement trick. For example, the Framed Slope Slab is placed upside down by holding the sneak key.[1]
Good next crafts are the Framed Double Slab and the Framed Double Panel, both of which are in the shape list. For storage, try the Framed Chest.[1][3]
How does FramedBlocks work?
6 parts
Framed blocks are shaped blocks that copy the look of another block. Most of the mechanics are about the camo (the block a framed block imitates), plus a few settings the pack has changed. There is also one powered machine, the Powered Framing Saw, which has its own power settings.[1][5]
Applying and removing camo
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block and it takes on that block's look.[1]
- Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it give off light. In this pack the light level is general.glowstoneLightLevel, set to 15, which is also the mod default and the top of the 0 to 15 range.[1][5]
- The mod page says a Framed Hammer removes the camo with a right click.[1]
In this pack general.consumeCamoItem is true. Applying a camo uses up the item, and removing the camo drops it again, so nothing is lost when you change your mind.[5]
The pack also sets general.allowBlockEntities to false. That means blocks with block entities cannot be placed in framed blocks.[5]

Handling tools
- The Framed Wrench, or any other item in the wrench tool tag, rotates a framed block. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click.[1]
- The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]
- The Framed Blueprint copies a framed block, including its camo and glowing state, but not the block's own rotation.[1]
- Prism-type corners switch on a texture offset automatically depending on where you place them, so large surfaces line up. Left clicking with the Framed Hammer toggles the offset if you don't want it.[1]
Pack-wide framed block settings
- general.fireproofBlocks is false, so framed blocks are not made completely fireproof here.[5]
- general.enableIntangibleFeature is false, so the intangibility feature is off. The config notes that this also stops you moving through blocks that are already marked as intangible.[5]
- general.oneWayWindowOwnable is true, so only the player who placed a Framed One-Way Window can change which way it faces.[5]
Breaking framed blocks
The loot tables for blocks such as the Framed Banner, Framed Button and Framed Activator Rail Slope copy the camo list from the block entity into the dropped item when the retain_camo condition is met. Each of those tables also has a second pool of dynamic drops. The Framed Board has an extra pool that sets its drop count with a board-specific count type. The other loot tables for this mod aren't shown in the sources here.[7][8][9][10]
Framing saw recipes
The pack has 217 recipes of the framedblocks:frame type, and each one makes a different framed block. Their ids start with framing_saw/, for example the one for the Framed Adjustable Double Slab.[6]
Frame (framedblocks)
Recipe id: framedblocks:framing_saw/framed_adj_double_slab
One of the framing saw recipes in the pack.
The Powered Framing Saw is tuned by the settings below in the server config. In this pack they all match the mod defaults.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.consumption is 50: the power it uses per tick while crafting (range 1 to 32,767).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.craftingDuration is 5: the ticks one crafting operation takes (range 5 to 200).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.energyCapacity is 5,000: the power it can store (range 100 to 32,767).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.maxReceive is 250: the power it can accept per tick (range 10 to 32,767).[5]
Rotating shapes by crafting
The pack has 42 recipes of the framedblocks:rotate_shape type. They turn a block into its counterpart shape. The Framed Centered Panel and Framed Centered Slab convert into each other, and the Framed Divided Slab and Framed Divided Panel (Horizontal) do the same.[6]

How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
3 parts
The sources for this pack show no material tiers for FramedBlocks. What they do show is that every block is made by one of four recipe routes, so the useful path is learning those routes.[6]
The four recipe routes
- Framing saw: 217 recipes of the frame type, each with a different result. Their ids sit under framing_saw, for example the ones for Framed Bars, Framed Chest and Framed Bookshelf.[6]
- Crafting table, shaped: 181 recipes. Some make several blocks at once, such as 4 Framed Board, 6 Framed Checkered Panel and 16 Framed Bars. Items like Framed Axe, Framed Blueprint and Camo Applicator are also shaped recipes.[6]
- Crafting table, shapeless: 33 recipes, such as Framed Button, Framed Centered Panel and Framed Fence. Framed Half Slope and Framed Half Stairs give 2 per craft, and Framed Corner Strip gives 16.[6]
- Shape rotation: 42 recipes of the rotate_shape type that turn one block into its sibling shape, for example Framed Centered Panel into Framed Centered Slab and back again.[6]
Examples of each route
Crafting Shaped
| Framed Panel | Framed Panel | Framed Hammer |
Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_board
The crafting table version of the Framed Board makes 4 per craft.
The same block also has a framing saw recipe.
Rotate Shape (framedblocks)
Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_centered_panel_rotate_to_framed_centered_slab
A rotate recipe, turning the panel shape into the slab shape.
Camo is kept when you break a block
The loot table for Framed Activator Rail Slope copies the stored camo data onto the dropped item when the retain_camo condition passes. It also has a second pool of dynamic drops. The loot tables for Framed Adjustable Double Panel and Framed Adjustable Double Slab follow the same pattern.[7][11][12]
Unverified The quest sources here do not show any quest involving FramedBlocks, so a quest-driven order for unlocking its blocks is not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book in-game.
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
2 parts
FramedBlocks has a server config file, config/framedblocks-server.toml. Here is how this pack sets the options you are most likely to run into while building.[5]
General options
- general.allowBlockEntities is false in this pack, so blocks with block entities can't be placed in framed blocks.[5]
- general.consumeCamoItem is true. Applying a camo uses up the item, and removing the camo drops it again.[5]
- general.enableIntangibleFeature is false, so the intangibility feature is switched off. The config notes that disabling it also prevents moving through blocks that are already marked as intangible.[5]
- general.fireproofBlocks is false, so framed blocks are not completely fireproof.[5]
- general.glowstoneLightLevel is 15, the same as the mod default (the allowed range is 0 to 15). That is the light level a framed block gives off once you apply glowstone dust to it.[5]
- general.oneWayWindowOwnable is true, so only the player who placed a Framed One-Way Window can change its direction.[5]
Powered Framing Saw
These options control the Powered Framing Saw. In this pack all of them sit at the mod default.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.consumption is 50: the power the saw uses per tick while crafting (allowed range 1 to 32,767).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.craftingDuration is 5: the ticks one crafting operation takes (allowed range 5 to 200).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.energyCapacity is 5,000: the power the saw can store (allowed range 100 to 32,767).[5]
- powered_framing_saw.maxReceive is 250: the power the saw can receive per tick (allowed range 10 to 32,767).[5]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
2 parts
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships FramedBlocks 11.4.0. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[13]
The sources here only cover the 11.4.0 changelog, so this section covers that one release. Here is what it changed.[14]
New features and improvements in 11.4.0
- Copycat-style appearance has been added to various blocks.[14]
- The Framing Saw now has full JEI recipe transfer support.[14]
- The Framed Blueprint now copies the copycat-style property, and it also copies the chain type of lanterns.[14]
- The Framed Blueprint copies Framed Boards exactly when multiple faces are present.[14]
- The modifier buttons in the Camo Applicator screen have been improved.[14]
- A double-block part indicator has been added. It is off by default.[14]
Fixes in 11.4.0
- Fixed a duplication bug when rotating a Framed Board in certain configurations.[14]
- Fixed part hit detection on adjustable double blocks being off by one pixel.[14]
- Fixed edge cases in Collapsible Copycat Block rotation.[14]
- Fixed the initial state of placement state cycling, which could sometimes copy invalid values from the current placement state.[14]
