What is Easy Villagers?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Easy Villagers lets you pick up villagers as an item, so you never have to wrangle them with boats, minecarts or walls again. Sneak and right-click a villager, or press the V key, to pick one up. Right-click the ground to place it again.[1]

The pack includes Easy Villagers version 1.1.43+26.1.2. If you build villager trading halls, breeders or iron farms, this mod is for you. It replaces those bulky setups with single blocks, which saves space and cuts lag.[1][2]

What the blocks do

  • Trader block: trade with a villager without securing it. The villager can also restock outside working hours, and the restock time doesn't depend on day/night or dimension. You can change the trading interval in the config.[1]
  • Auto trader block: works like the trader block but trades for you. Hoppers can put items in and take items out, and the cooldown between trades is configurable.[1]
  • Farmer block: a whole crop farm in a single block.[1]
  • Breeder block: you put in food and it produces baby villagers.[1]
  • Incubator block: speeds up the growth of baby villagers. The speed can be changed in the config.[1]
  • Converter block: turns a villager into a zombie villager and then cures it, which gives the player who placed the block better trades. The process takes approximately five minutes.[1]
  • Iron farm block: a complete iron farm in one block. It produces one iron golem every four minutes, which averages about one iron ingot per minute.[1]

Trade cycling

You can also reroll a villager's trades without breaking its workstation. Press the trade cycle button, or use the C key. This only works if the villager hasn't been traded with yet, and it works on normal villagers too.[1]

Tip: Sneak and right-click any of these blocks with an empty hand to take your stuff out. Blocks keep their contents when broken. A baby villager can grow up inside a block, but the block won't work until it has grown.[1]

Unverified Where Easy Villagers fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources show no quests for this mod and no place for it on the ATM Star path. Whether the pack changes any of its config values or recipes is also unconfirmed, so treat the numbers above as the mod's own descriptions.

How do you get started with Easy Villagers?

5 parts

As the mod's project page describes it, Easy Villagers lets you pick villagers up as an item, and it adds blocks that stand in for every farm that includes villagers. The order below goes from the basics to the bigger machines, so you build things as you need them.[1]

Step 1: pick up a villager

The mod page says you get a villager item by sneaking and right-clicking a villager, or by pressing the V key, so there is no crafting involved. Right-click the ground to place it again. Everything else in the mod builds on this.[1]

Trade cycling is switched on in this pack. If a villager has not been traded with yet, the trade cycle button resets its trades for you, so you no longer have to break and replace the workstation. You can also press the C key to cycle trades.[1][3]

Step 2: the Trader

Make the Trader first. Per the mod page, it lets you trade with a villager without having to secure it, and it lets the villager restock outside working hours, with a restock time that does not depend on day and night or on the dimension. In this pack the restock time is between 1,200 and 3,600 ticks, the same as the mod defaults (trader.min_restock_time and trader.max_restock_time).[1][3]

The Trader uses the mod's own recipe in this pack.

Next: the Auto Trader

Once you have a good trade, upgrade to the Auto Trader. It works like the Trader but makes the trades for you, and hoppers can put items in and take items out. The pack keeps the trade cooldown at 20 ticks (auto_trader.trade_cooldown). Villager reputation is shared between all players here (villager.universal_reputation), and that setting affects the Auto Trader's prices.[1][3]

Next: more villagers

The mod page says the Breeder produces baby villagers when you put in food. In this pack it takes 1,200 ticks to create a villager (breeder.breeding_time), the same as the mod default.[1][3]

The Incubator speeds up the growth of baby villagers. The pack leaves its speed at 2 (incubator.speed). Babies can also grow up inside the blocks, but a block does not work until the villager inside is grown.[1][3]

Then: farming, curing and iron

The mod page describes the Farmer as a whole crop farm in one block, which helps save space and reduce lag. Its growth setting is 10 in this pack (farmer.farm_speed), and lower values mean faster growth.[1][3]

According to the mod page, the Converter converts a villager into a zombie villager and cures it afterwards, giving the player who placed the block better trades. It needs a golden apple, any type of potion of weakness and the villager. The process takes approximately five minutes, and the pack sets it to 6,000 ticks (converter.converting_time).[1][3]

The mod page describes the Iron Farm as a complete iron farm in one block that produces one iron golem every four minutes, which averages about one iron ingot per minute. The spawn time in this pack is 4,800 ticks (iron_farm.spawn_time), the same as the mod default. This is the one recipe the pack has changed, so use the recipe below and not what you remember from other packs.[1][3][4]

How does Easy Villagers work?

7 parts

Easy Villagers turns villagers into an item and squeezes every villager-based farm into a single block. Sneak and right-click a villager, or press V, to pick it up. Right-click the ground to place it again. Everything below is how the blocks behave and what the pack's server config sets for them.[1]

Rules every block shares

  • Sneak and right-click a block with an empty hand to take items out of it.[1]
  • Baby villagers can grow up inside the blocks, but the block does not do its job until the villager is an adult.[1]
  • If you break one of these blocks, it keeps its contents. The loot tables copy the block entity data onto the dropped item for the Trader, Auto Trader, Breeder, Converter, Farmer, Incubator and Iron Farm.[1][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
  • All timings in the config are in ticks. Where a value is shown below, the pack's value is the same as the mod default, except the farmer crop blacklist, which the pack sets to a tag.[3]

Trader and Auto Trader

The Trader lets you trade with a villager without having to secure it in a trading hall. It also lets the villager restock outside working hours, and the restock time does not depend on day/night time or dimension. In this pack the restock time falls between trader.min_restock_time (1,200 ticks) and trader.max_restock_time (3,600 ticks).[1][3]

The Auto Trader works like the Trader, but it makes the trades for you. You can feed items in and pull items out with a hopper. The delay between trades is auto_trader.trade_cooldown, set to 20 ticks here. Its restock window is 1,200 to 3,600 ticks, set by auto_trader.min_restock_time and auto_trader.max_restock_time.[1][3]

Farmer

The Farmer holds a whole crop farm in one block, which saves space and reduces lag. farmer.farm_speed is 10 in this pack. It is the chance that a crop grows a stage, and lower values mean faster growth.[1][3]

Crops can be banned through farmer.crop_blacklist. The pack sets it to the tag easy_villagers:invalid_farmer_crop, and entries starting with # are treated as tags. In the mod's jar that tag lists Farmer's Delight tomato seeds as an optional entry.[3][12]

Breeder and Incubator

The Breeder produces baby villagers when you put food in. breeder.breeding_time is 1,200 ticks per new villager in this pack.[1][3]

The Incubator speeds up the growth of baby villagers. incubator.speed is 2 here, and the config accepts values from 1 to 1,024.[1][3]

Converter

The Converter turns a villager into a zombie villager and then cures it. The player who placed the block gets better trades from the cured villager. It needs a golden apple, any potion of weakness and the villager. The pack's converter.converting_time is 6,000 ticks, which matches the roughly five minutes the mod describes.[1][3]

villager.universal_reputation is on in this pack. That makes reputation the same for every player, and it affects the prices of cured or converted villagers and of the Auto Trader.[3]

Iron Farm

The Iron Farm is a complete iron farm in one block. It makes one iron golem every four minutes, which averages about one iron ingot per minute. In the pack, iron_farm.spawn_time is 4,800 ticks.[1][3]

The pack changed this recipe, so use the one shown here rather than the mod's default.

Trade cycling and villager sounds

Normally you have to break a villager's workstation to reroll its trades. The trade cycle button does that for you, as long as the villager has not been traded with before. You can also press C to cycle trades, and it works on normal villagers too. villager.trade_cycling is enabled in this pack.[1][3]

A few config options control noise. villager.inventory_sounds is true, so villagers make sounds while in your inventory. villager.sound_amount is 20 for villager blocks, and lower values mean more frequent sounds.[3]

How do you progress through Easy Villagers?

3 parts

Easy Villagers adds these machines, all made at a crafting table with a shaped recipe: the Trader, Auto Trader, Breeder, Incubator, Converter, Farmer and Iron Farm. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack ingredients for each one.[4]

The Iron Farm is different here

The pack changed the Iron Farm recipe. The other machines above use the mod's own recipes, so the Iron Farm is the one to check before you plan around it.[4]

Good to know

  • When you break any of these machines, its loot table copies the block entity data onto the dropped item, so the machine comes back as its own item.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in the pack's quest book that guides you through these machines, so there is no quest-based order to follow for them.

Which Easy Villagers config options matter?

3 parts

Everything in Easy Villagers that you can tune lives in one server config file. Good news: every option in this pack that lists a mod default is set to exactly that default, so the pack has not changed any of those numbers. All times below are in ticks.[3]

Machine timers

  • breeder.breeding_time is 1200, the time the breeder takes to create a new villager.[3]
  • converter.converting_time is 6000, the time the converter takes to convert a villager. The mod page describes this as approximately five minutes.[1][3]
  • iron_farm.spawn_time is 4800, the time the iron farm takes to spawn a golem. The mod page describes this as one iron golem every four minutes.[1][3]
  • incubator.speed is 2, the speed at which the incubator ages villagers. It accepts values from 1 to 1024.[3]
  • farmer.farm_speed is 10. It is the chance that a crop grows a stage in a farmer, and lower values mean faster growth.[3]

Restocking and auto trading

The trader restocks between trader.min_restock_time (1200) and trader.max_restock_time (3600) ticks. The auto trader uses the same 1200 and 3600 values for auto_trader.min_restock_time and auto_trader.max_restock_time. Both match the mod defaults.[3]

The pause between automatic trades is auto_trader.trade_cooldown, set to 20 ticks, which is also the mod default.[3]

Villager behaviour

The farmer's farmer.crop_blacklist is set to the tag #easy_villagers:invalid_farmer_crop. Entries starting with '#' are treated as tags, so that tag decides which crops the farmer will not use.[3]

Tip: If the villager sounds get annoying on a big base, villager.sound_amount is the one to raise, since lower values mean more frequent sounds. Turning villager.inventory_sounds off silences villagers you are carrying.[3]

What changed in Easy Villagers between versions?

1 part

There isn't much history to cover for Easy Villagers in this pack. FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships version 1.1.42+26.1.2 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier.[13]

Mod changelog

  • 1.1.42+26.1.2, the version in this pack: updated the Chinese Simplified (China) translation. That is the only change listed for this release, so nothing about gameplay changed in it.[13][14]

Unverified Whether the pack's own release notes mention Easy Villagers is not shown in the sources here, which include no pack changelog entries for this mod. Check the FTB Evolution 2 release notes for anything pack-specific.
