What is Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated adds a crafting station: a slight tweak on the normal crafting table. It comes originally from Tinkers Construct, and this version is a fork of tfarecnim's Crafting Station with some code from the JEI Edition, ported to 1.21.[1]

What it does

  • It keeps your items stored in the station and displays them on top.[1]
  • It can reach any neighbouring inventories, so you can craft from nearby storage. Modpack creators get an optional blacklist to limit this.[1]
  • If you use JEI, the station shows the "+" icon so you can import a recipe, just like on other crafting benches.[1]
  • Polymorph is still supported.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships version 2.2.0 of the mod, and it was already included in the pack's 1.0.2 release or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

3 parts

The first thing to make in this mod is the Crafting Station. It is a small tweak on the normal crafting table, and it comes from Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated. The idea started in Tinkers Construct.[1][3]

Step 1: Craft the Crafting Station

Make this one first, because everything else in the mod builds on it. Here is the in-pack recipe:[4]

Crafting Shapeless

  • Crafting Table

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

This is the exact recipe used in this pack.

Why it beats a normal crafting table

  • It keeps your items stored in the station and shows them on top, so your crafting grid does not get wiped when you close it.[1]
  • It can reach any neighbouring inventories, so you can craft from chests placed next to it.[1]
  • With JEI installed you get a "+" icon on the station to import a recipe, just like on other crafting benches.[1]
  • Polymorph is still supported.[1]

Step 2: Make the slab (optional)

The mod also adds the Crafting Station Slab. One craft gives you 2 slabs.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

One craft makes 2 slabs.

Tip: Place chests right next to your Crafting Station so it can pull from them. That is where the station saves you the most time.[1]

Unverified The mod lets modpack creators set an optional blacklist for neighbouring inventories. It would be set in a config file, and the sources here do not show any config for this mod, so whether this pack blocks any inventories is unverified.

How does Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated work?

4 parts

The Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated mod is a small tweak on the normal crafting table, so there are no power, fluid or multiblock systems to learn. Everything comes down to what the Crafting Station does when you stand at it.[1]

What the Crafting Station does

  • It keeps your items stored and displays them on top of the block, so you can leave your materials in it.[1]
  • It has access to any neighbouring inventories, so it can work with chests and similar storage placed next to it.[1]
  • If you use JEI, the Crafting Station shows the "+" icon so you can import a recipe, like on any other crafting bench.[1]
  • Polymorph is still supported.[1]

The idea comes from the crafting station in Tinkers Construct. This mod is a fork of tfarecnim's Crafting Station with a bit of code from the JEI Edition, ported to 1.21.[1]

Neighbouring inventories and the blacklist

The neighbouring inventory access comes with an optional blacklist for modpack creators. The mod's own jar has a blacklisted tile entity tag for this, and it ships empty, so the mod itself blocks nothing. The sources here do not show whether this pack adds anything to it.[1][5]

The slab version

The Crafting Station Slab is the slab form of the station. If you stack two into a double slab and break it, you get 2 slabs back. The full Crafting Station block drops itself when broken, unless an explosion destroys it.[3][6][7]

Crafting them

Crafting Shapeless

  • Crafting Table

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

Both recipes are shapeless crafting recipes added by the mod.

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

This recipe makes 2 slabs at a time.

How do you progress through Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated doesn't have tiers. The sources here show two items, the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab, and each has a single recipe in the pack.[4]

Crafting Station

Crafting Shapeless

  • Crafting Table

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

A shapeless recipe, so the layout in the grid doesn't matter. It makes one Crafting Station.

When you break the Crafting Station, it drops itself, as long as it survives an explosion.[7]

Crafting Station Slab

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

Also shapeless. One craft gives you 2 Crafting Station Slabs.

A double slab drops 2 Crafting Station Slabs when broken, and explosion decay can reduce that drop.[6]

What changed in Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated between versions?

2 parts

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated 2.2.0, and the pack included this mod already in 1.0.2 or earlier. The file in the pack is the NeoForge build for 26.1.1.[2]

2.2.0 changelog

Version 2.2.0 is the one you get in this pack, and it is mostly a bug-fix release. Here is what the mod's own changelog lists.[2][8]

  • Added EMI support on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1.[8]
  • Fixed a crash to the main menu on 1.21.1 when moving items into a chest next to the station.[8]
  • Fixed the side inventory using the creative inventory textures. The slots and scrollbar now use the mod's own texture and can be resource packed independently.[8]
  • Fixed scrollbar dragging being offset, grabbing on clicks anywhere in the screen, and leaving the grid misaligned. Scrolling now moves in whole rows.[8]
  • Fixed a duplication on 26.1 when shift-clicking from an adjacent container into a nearly full inventory.[8]

Over-stacked slots

The biggest fix for storage fans: items could be lost, or appear duplicated, with over-stacked slots such as Sophisticated Storage barrels with a Stack Upgrade. The real count is now shown, and taking, swapping and dragging no longer discard the surplus.[8]
