What is CakeStickLib?

CakeStickLib is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.17.5-hotfix-1 of it, in the file cakesticklib-1.17.5-hotfix-1.jar.[1]

It is not a new addition. It was first included in FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a long time.[1]

How do you get started with CakeStickLib?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide

CakeStickLib adds a set of tools, molds and copper helpers. The mod's own advancement descriptions suggest a sensible order: tools first, then molds and wrought iron, then the copper items. That is the order below.[2]

Step 1: Make your tools

Start with the Hammer. Its advancement says you craft it to "craft new stuff", so it is the first thing to have in your inventory.[2]

Next comes the Chisel, which lets you do in-world stonecutting recipes. After that, craft the Wrench, which cycles the blockstates of the blocks you click.[2][3]

Step 2: Molds

Everything mold-related starts with the Blank Mold.[3]

Blank MoldMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: cakesticklib:blank_mold

The finished molds are made by stonecutting. Each one has a stonecutting recipe from the blank mold and a second stonecutting recipe of its own. These are the molds you can make:[3]

Example: turning a Blank Mold into an Ingot Mold at the stonecutter.

    Step 3: Wrought iron

Wrought Iron Ingot is the mod's main metal. Its advancement says to combine some carbon dust with an iron ingot. There is also a follow-up advancement for smelting a wrought iron ingot in a blast furnace.[2][3]

    Crafting Shapeless

    • any carbon dust
    • any carbon dust
    • any iron ingot

    Recipe id: cakesticklib:wrought_iron_ingot

The in-pack crafting recipe for the ingot.

This pack also adds casting recipes for wrought iron. An ingot takes 90 units of molten wrought iron at a casting table, a nugget takes 10, and a Wrought Iron Block takes 810 at a casting basin.[3]

    Recipe id: ftb:hephaestus_materials/casting/wrought_iron/ingot

Added by the pack: casting an ingot from molten wrought iron.

    Step 4: Copper care

The last early items work on copper blocks. Honey Solution waxes the copper block you click, and Redstone Acid pushes it one oxidation stage further. Scraping any oxidized copper block drops Patina. The pack leaves these behaviors on.[2][4]

    • Dandelion

    Redstone AcidMod recipe

    Crafting Shapeless

    • Glass Bottle
    • any redstone dust
    • Patina

    Recipe id: cakesticklib:redstone_acid

Tip: If one of these copper behaviors ever stops working, check events.honey_solution_wax, events.redstone_acid_oxide and events.patina_drop. In this pack these options are set to true.[4]

    How does CakeStickLib work?

    6 parts

CakeStickLib is mostly about small in-world tricks and a shared upgrade system, not big multiblock machines. What the sources here explain is the set of upgrade items, a handful of right-click behaviours you can switch on or off in the config, and a few special recipe types. That is what this section covers.[2][5][6]

    Machine upgrades

The mod has five upgrade items: Speed Upgrade, Energy Upgrade, Luck Upgrade, Fluid Upgrade and Eject Upgrade. They are all grouped in one upgrades item tag.[5]

The config caps how many upgrade types a single machine can take. In this pack every one of these values is still the mod default, so nothing has been tweaked here.[6]

Three more options set the floor that upgrades can push costs down to: upgrades.min_fe_cost (minimal energy cost, 5), upgrades.min_mb_cost (minimal fluid cost, 1) and upgrades.min_tick_rate (minimal tick delay, 1). All three are at the mod default in this pack.[6]

    Copper oxidation, waxing and patina

Two bottles control copper blocks in the world. Honey Solution waxes the copper block you click, and the advancement text says it waxes more efficiently. Redstone Acid raises the clicked copper block by one oxidation stage. Both behaviours are switched on in this pack through events.honey_solution_wax and events.redstone_acid_oxide.[2][6]

The mod's waxing tag holds Honey Solution and honeycomb, and its oxidizer tag holds Redstone Acid.[7][8]

    Honey SolutionMod recipe

    Crafting Shapeless

    • Glass Bottle
    • Honeycomb
    • Dandelion

    Recipe id: cakesticklib:honey_solution

Honey Solution is a shapeless crafting recipe.

    Redstone AcidMod recipe

    Crafting Shapeless

    • Glass Bottle
    • any redstone dust
    • Patina

    Recipe id: cakesticklib:redstone_acid

    Redstone Acid is also shapeless.

Scraping any oxidized copper block drops Patina while events.patina_drop is on, which it is here. The JEI entry says each scrape drops 0-2 items.[2][6]

    In-world tools

    • Chisel lets you craft stonecutting recipes in the world. Its info text says this works when it is bound to the result block.[2]
    • Glass Cutter insta-mines glass. Its mineable tag covers glass blocks and glass panes.[2][10]
    • Wrench cycles the blockstates of the blocks you click.[2]
    • Hammer is described as a tool you craft to make new stuff.[2]

    Other right-click behaviours

Several more behaviours can be toggled in events.ender_eye_return, events.harvestable_action and events.tree_cutting_limit. All are active in this pack.[6]

    • Ender eye return: you can interact with an End Portal Frame to take the Eye of Ender back out.[6]
    • Harvestable action: you can right-click crops to collect them instead of breaking them. The config says it turns off by default if Farmers Delight is detected.[6]
    • Tree cutting limit: the maximum number of harvestable blocks per interaction is 2,048, which is also the mod default.[6]

    Special recipe types

The mod adds a recipe type called durability_use. Its recipes produce Amethyst Dust, Flour and Glass Dust, and JEI shows them with the text "Consume %s durability".[2][9]

The molds (Bar Mold, Block Mold, Foil Mold and Gear Mold) each have stonecutting recipes, and most can also be cut from a Blank Mold.[9]

    Wrought iron in this pack

Wrought Iron Ingot has the mod's own shapeless crafting recipe. This pack also adds Hephaestus casting recipes for wrought iron: the ingot and nugget are cast on a casting table, and the block in a casting basin. All three use molten wrought iron.[9]

How do you progress through CakeStickLib?

    6 parts

CakeStickLib is a support mod, and the sources I have here do not lay out a tier ladder or say which step comes first. What they do show is the full set of in-pack recipes, so this section groups the items by what they are for and calls out the one place where the pack changes things.[9]

    Basic tools and parts

The early hand tools are the Hammer, Chisel, Wrench and Glass Cutter. The glass cutter is tagged as the tool for mining glass blocks and glass panes. The Wooden Gear is a basic part you can make by hand.[9][10]

Wrought iron and the pack's casting change

Wrought iron has crafting recipes for the Wrought Iron Ingot, nugget, block and Wrought Iron Plate. The plate recipe gives 3 plates per craft. Ingots can also be unpacked into 9 from a block, and nuggets into 9 from an ingot.[9]

    Recipe id: cakesticklib:wrought_iron_plate

The pack adds its own casting route on top. A casting table turns 90 molten wrought iron into a Wrought Iron Ingot and 10 into a Wrought Iron Nugget. A casting basin turns 810 into a Wrought Iron Block. These are pack additions, not mod defaults.[9]

Redstone Acid is crafted shapelessly and is the item in the mod's oxidizer tag.[8][9]

    Molds

Start with the Blank Mold. The bar, block, foil, gear, ingot, nugget, plate and rod molds can each be made by stonecutting, either from a blank mold or directly through their own stonecutting recipe.[9]

How does CakeStickLib work with other mods?

    1 part

The only link between CakeStickLib and another mod that the pack's recipes confirm is with Hephaestus Forge. The pack adds casting recipes so you can make CakeStickLib's wrought iron items from a molten metal.[9]

    Casting wrought iron

The metal you cast from is ftb:molten_wrought_iron. It comes out as the three wrought iron items from CakeStickLib: Wrought Iron Nugget, Wrought Iron Ingot and Wrought Iron Block. All three recipes were added by the pack, so you won't find them in the mods' defaults.[9]

The nugget and the ingot are cast in the casting table. The full block needs the bigger casting basin.[9]

    Which CakeStickLib config options matter?

    3 parts

Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide

CakeStickLib keeps its settings in one file, events.ender_eye_return and friends all live in config/cakesticklib-common.toml. Good news: every option that lists a mod default in this pack's file is set to exactly that default, so the pack changes nothing here. If you know the mod's normal behaviour, that is what you get.[4]

    Machine upgrade limits

These options cap how many upgrade types you can put in each machine. All of them are at the mod default in this pack.[4]

    Upgrade scaling values

    Events

The event options are all switched on in this pack. events.ender_eye_return lets you interact with an End Portal Frame to remove its Eye of Ender. events.honey_solution_wax lets Honey Solution wax the copper block you click, and events.redstone_acid_oxide lets Redstone Acid push that copper block one oxidation stage further. events.patina_drop makes Patina drop when you scrape any oxidized copper block.[4]

events.harvestable_action is true, so you can right-click crops to collect them instead of breaking them. The option's own description says it turns off by default if Farmers Delight is detected, but the pack file lists it as true.[4]

events.tree_cutting_limit is 2048, the max number of harvestable blocks per interaction, which is the mod default.[4]

Tip: If you want to tweak machine upgrades, the upgrade limits are the options to look at first. Just remember the listed ranges: the max upgrade counts accept 0 to 16.[4]
