What is BBL Core?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

BBL Core is a library-style mod by benbenlaw. Its project page describes it as a set of useful methods, utilities and helpers that make coding mods a bit better, and it is aimed at both mod developers and modpack developers. This pack ships version 12.6.8.[1][2]

Who it is for

You won't build anything with BBL Core directly. Other mods and the pack's own setup use it behind the scenes. If you're making your own modpack or mod, though, it has tools worth knowing about.[1]

What it offers

For modpack makers, the project page lists the following features:[1]

  • Changed nether portal frame blocks, and removal of the void line in skyblock and void worlds.[1]
  • Optional void protection that sends a player back to their home when they take void damage, which is handy for skyblock and End protection.[1]
  • Configurable /modpack and /discord commands, plus a modpack update checker that uses a modpack id set in the config.[1]
  • World-type-specific recipes and loot tables, and a climbable tag (bblcore:climbable_blocks) that lets any block be climbed.[1]
  • A fix for the vanilla issue where sleeping doesn't set the time to day in custom dimensions.[1]
  • A /recipeID command that lists all recipes for the item you're holding. Adding a mod id after it shows only the recipe ids added by that mod, which is useful for finding ids to remove.[1]
  • An Upgrade Base item.[1]

For mod developers, it has an easy fluid system, colored tags (add a block or item to bblcore:tintable/color to tint it), helper utilities for the mouse, tooltips and directions, and lightable items that can create light.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

BBL Core is not on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it. No in-jar guidebook was found for it either, so there is no progression step to follow.[2]

Unverified Which of the modpack features above are enabled or configured in this pack has not been confirmed from the available sources.

How do you get started with BBL Core?

1 part

BBL Core is not a mod you build a base around. Its project page describes it as a collection of useful methods, utilities and helpers for mod and modpack developers, so there is no machine or tool to craft first and no recipe to follow.[1]

Your first steps in the pack come from the other mods you install. Think of BBL Core as background support that other mods and the pack itself lean on.[1]

What you may notice in play

  • The mod has tooltip prompts that read "Press SHIFT for more info", "Press CTRL for more info" and "Press ALT for more info". When you see one, hold the key it names to read the extra detail.[3]
  • The project page lists a /recipeID command. Hold an item and run it to get all the recipes for that item, or run /recipeID followed by a mod id to get only the recipe ids added by that mod.[1]
Tip: The /recipeID command is described on the project page as useful for finding recipe ids when you want to remove a recipe. If you ever tweak the pack yourself, it is worth remembering.[1]

How does BBL Core work?

4 parts

Here's the thing about BBL Core: it's a library mod. The project page describes it as various useful methods, utilities and helpers for people who code mods and build modpacks. The sources don't describe any machine, multiblock, power, fluid or item-handling system that you would use directly in play, so this section covers what the mod offers behind the scenes.[1]

Modpack features

The project page lists these features for modpack makers. They describe what the mod offers in general.[1]

  • Changed nether portal frame blocks.[1]
  • The void line is removed in skyblock and void worlds.[1]
  • Void protection that can be enabled. It respawns a player back at their home when they take damage from the void, which is handy for skyblock or End protection.[1]
  • A modpack update checker. You add the modpack id to the config and get told when there's a modpack update.[1]
  • The ability to add world type specific recipes and loot tables.[1]
  • A climbable tag, bblcore:climbable_blocks, that lets any block be climbable.[1]
  • A fix for a vanilla issue where you can't sleep to set the time to day in a custom dimension.[1]

Unverified Whether features such as void protection or the update checker are switched on in this pack is set in the mod's config, and the sources here do not show any config for this mod.

Commands

  • /modpack and /discord commands, which can both be configured.[1]
  • /recipeID gives you all recipes for the item you're holding. Add a mod id, as in /recipeID modID, to get the recipe ids for the held item that were added by that mod. It's useful when you're hunting for recipe ids to remove.[1]

Features for mod developers

Other mods can build on BBL Core too. It has an easy to implement fluid system for adding a mod's own fluids, plus helper utilities for mouse, tooltips and directions. It also supports colored tags: if a block model is tintable, adding the block or item to the bblcore:tintable/color tag gives it that tint. Lightable items, which can be used to create light, are in there as well.[1]

Tooltips

The mod's language file contains tooltip prompts for SHIFT, CTRL and ALT: "Press SHIFT for more info", "Press CTRL for more info" and "Press ALT for more info".[3]

What changed in BBL Core between versions?

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships BBL Core 12.6.12. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[4]

The one change the sources show for that version is a fix: the 12.6.12 changelog says a dupe bug with filter slots was fixed.[5]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for BBL Core, so what changed for this mod between individual pack releases is not shown. Check the pack's own changelogs for that.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as bblcore, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
