What is AE2 Pattern Restocker?

2 parts

AE2 Pattern Restocker is a small quality-of-life addon for Applied Energistics 2. It does one job: it takes the hassle out of keeping blank patterns in the Pattern Encoding Terminal. It needs no special cards, upgrades or extra items.[1]

What it does

  • Auto restock: when the blank pattern slot is empty and you click Encode, the terminal refills that slot from blank patterns stored in your ME network.[1]
  • Clear and restock button: a small X badge on the encoded pattern slot turns the encoded pattern back into a blank pattern. The blank goes to the blank slot first, then ME storage, then your inventory, in that priority order.[1]

The author built it as a minimal, standalone package, for people who want these conveniences without the extra features, mechanics and balance changes that larger AE2 addons bring.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships AE2 Pattern Restocker 1.1.0. It was already included in FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

Both features can be toggled independently in config/ae2_pattern_restocker-common.toml. The mod's project page says both are enabled by default. The sources here do not show whether the pack changes that.[1]

Tip: If the X badge or the auto refill ever seems missing from your Pattern Encoding Terminal, check that config file first, since each feature has its own toggle.[1]

How do you get started with AE2 Pattern Restocker?

2 parts

Good news: AE2 Pattern Restocker has nothing for you to craft. It is a small quality-of-life addon for Applied Energistics 2 and needs no special cards, upgrades or additional items. If you already have a Pattern Encoding Terminal on your ME network, you are set.[1]

What you get in the pack

The mod adds two features to the Pattern Encoding Terminal, and this pack leaves both switched on.[1][3]

  • Auto restock: when the blank pattern slot is empty and you click Encode, the terminal refills it with blank patterns already stored in your ME network. This is controlled by autoRestock, which is true in this pack.[1][3]
  • Return button: a small X badge on the encoded pattern slot turns the encoded pattern back into a blank one. This is controlled by returnButton, which is true in this pack.[1][3]

How to start using it

  1. Make sure your ME network has blank patterns stored in its storage, since that is where the restocking pulls from.[1][3]
  2. Open your Pattern Encoding Terminal and encode patterns as usual. When the blank slot runs dry, click Encode and it refills itself from the network.[1][3]
  3. Made a pattern you do not want? Click the X badge on the encoded pattern slot to turn it back into a blank pattern.[1][3]
Tip: When you use the X badge, the blank pattern goes to the blank slot first, then ME storage, then your inventory, in that priority order. Nothing gets lost.[1]

Both features can be toggled independently in the mod's config file. If you ever want one off, set its option to false in that file.[1][3]

How does AE2 Pattern Restocker work?

2 parts

AE2 Pattern Restocker has no machines, multiblocks, power use or fluid handling to learn. It is a small quality-of-life addon for Applied Energistics 2 that changes how the Pattern Encoding Terminal handles blank patterns. It needs no special cards, upgrades or extra items.[1]

Auto restock of blank patterns

Normally you have to keep the blank pattern slot stocked by hand. With this addon, if that slot is empty when you click Encode, the terminal refills it from blank patterns already stored in your ME network. So as long as your network holds blank patterns, you can encode one pattern after another without stopping to restock.[1]

This is controlled by autoRestock, which is set to true in this pack.[3]

Clear and restock button

The second feature is a small X badge on the encoded pattern slot. Clicking it turns the encoded pattern back into a blank pattern, which is handy when you made a mistake or want to reuse a pattern. The Pattern Encoding Terminal shows this button when returnButton is enabled, and it is set to true in this pack.[1][3]

The blank pattern goes to the first of these places that can take it, in this order:[1]

  1. The blank pattern slot of the terminal.[1]
  2. Your ME storage.[1]
  3. Your inventory.[1]
Tip: The two features are toggled independently in config/ae2_pattern_restocker-common.toml. Both are enabled in this pack, so you can turn one off without losing the other.[1][3]

Which AE2 Pattern Restocker config options matter?

3 parts

AE2 Pattern Restocker only has two settings, and they live in config/ae2_pattern_restocker-common.toml. Each one switches a feature on or off independently, so you can keep one and drop the other.[1][3]

The two options

  • autoRestock is set to true in this pack. When you encode a pattern and the blank pattern slot is empty, the mod automatically pulls blank patterns from your ME storage.[1][3]
  • returnButton is set to true in this pack. It shows a button on the Pattern Encoding Terminal that turns an encoded pattern back into a blank one.[3]

Did the pack change anything?

No. Both options are enabled by default in the mod, and the pack keeps them both at true, so nothing here differs from the mod's defaults.[1][3]

What the return button does

The button appears as a small X badge on the encoded pattern slot. It converts the encoded pattern back to a blank pattern and returns it to the blank slot, ME storage, or your inventory, in that priority order.[1]

Tip: If you would rather keep restocking fully manual, set the matching option to false in that file. The two features are toggled separately, so turning one off does not affect the other.[1]

What changed in AE2 Pattern Restocker between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships AE2 Pattern Restocker 1.1.0. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so this isn't its first appearance.[2]

Mod version 1.1.0

This is the version you get in the pack, and its changelog lists two additions and two fixes.[2][4]

  • Added: a return-to-blank button on the Pattern Encoding Terminal. It's a small X badge on the encoded pattern slot, and it converts the encoded pattern back to a blank pattern. The blank goes to the blank pattern slot first, then ME storage, then your player inventory, in that priority order. The button only shows when the slot holds an encoded pattern.[4]
  • Added: a config file at config/ae2_pattern_restocker-common.toml with a toggle for each feature, named autoRestock and returnButton. Both are enabled by default.[4]
  • Fixed: blank pattern extraction now respects ME network security permissions. The action is attributed to the player using the terminal instead of being anonymous.[4]
  • Fixed: the game no longer crashes on startup if an AE2 update causes a mixin incompatibility. The mod silently disables itself instead.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ae2_pattern_restocker, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
