What is Ore Dragons?

Ore Dragons is part of the pack's mod list. The pack ships version 1.18.2-0.0.3 of it (the file is oredragons-1.18.2-0.0.3.jar), and it has been in the pack since this version or earlier.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Ore Dragons does in gameplay, who it suits, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I also couldn't confirm any pack-specific changes to its recipes or configs, and I found no quests or ATM Star path entries for it. Check in-game before relying on any of these details.

How do you get started with Ore Dragons?

2 parts

The sources for Ore Dragons in this pack confirm the Syringe and the Dragon Meal as craftable items. Both recipes use the Radiation Bottle, so that is the item your first steps revolve around. Here is the order I'd go in, and why.[2]

Make the Syringe first

The Syringe is an injection that makes you immune against Nuclear Radiation. It is the one item whose effect the sources here confirm, which is why it comes first.[3]

The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.

Watch out: Radiation immunity is lost after dying, and a used injection is shown as an Already used Injection. Expect to need another Syringe after a death.[3]

Then the Dragon Meal

The Dragon Meal is the other Ore Dragons item with a confirmed in-pack recipe. The pack changed it too, so follow the recipe below rather than any mod default you remember.[2]

How does Ore Dragons work?

4 parts

The sources for this mod cover its dragons, their breath attacks, a radiation immunity injection and a few recipes the pack changed. This section walks through what they confirm, using the values this pack sets in its config.[2][3][4]

Dragon stats in this pack

Each ore dragon has its own max health, armor and attack damage, all set in the pack's config. Here are the dragons whose values are confirmed:[4]

  • Coal dragon: 800 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Coal Dragon Options.coalDragonMaxHealth]]), 5 armor and 8.5 attack damage.[4]
  • Copper dragon: 1,200 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Copper Dragon Options.copperDragonMaxHealth]]), 5.5 armor and 9 attack damage.[4]
  • Iron dragon: 1,800 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Iron Dragon Options.ironDragonMaxHealth]]), 6 armor and 9.5 attack damage.[4]
  • Gold dragon: 2,500 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Gold Dragon Options.goldDragonMaxHealth]]), 5.5 armor and 9.5 attack damage.[4]
  • Diamond dragon: 3,500 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Diamond Dragon Options.diamondDragonMaxHealth]]), 7 armor and 11 attack damage.[4]
  • Emerald dragon: 3,500 max health ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Emerald Dragon Options.emeraldDragonMaxHealth]]), 7.5 armor and 12 attack damage.[4]

The config also has entries for an Allthemodium dragon (10,000 max health) and a Dracolich dragon (50,000 max health). Both sections are labeled "Not implemented yet", so don't expect to meet them.[4]

Breath attacks

Every breath type has its own damage and status effect settings. The acid, disenchanting, drain, fire, ice, lightning, radiation and withering breaths all deal 5 damage in this pack (for example [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Fire Breath Options.fireBreathDamage]]). The effects differ per breath:[4]

  • Fire: sets you on fire for 5 seconds ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Fire Breath Options.fireBreathSecondsOnFire]]).[4]
  • Ice: freezes you for 2.5 seconds ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Ice Breath Options.iceBreathSecondsFreeze]]).[4]
  • Acid: 4 seconds of acid at amplifier 1 ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Acid Breath Options.acidBreathSecondsAcid]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Acid Breath Options.acidBreathAcidAmplifier]]).[4]
  • Drain: 8 seconds of drain at amplifier 4 ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Drain Breath Options.drainBreathSecondsDrain]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Drain Breath Options.drainBreathDrainAmplifier]]).[4]
  • Withering: 4 seconds of wither at amplifier 4 ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Withering Breath Options.witheringBreathSecondsWither]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Withering Breath Options.witheringBreathWitherAmplifier]]).[4]
  • Radiation: 5 seconds of radiation at amplifier 1, with a splash range of 4 ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Radiation Breath Options.radiationBreathSecondsRadiation]], [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Radiation Breath Options.radiationBreathRadiationAmplifier]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Radiation Breath Options.radiationBreathSplashRange]]).[4]
  • Poison: 4 seconds at amplifier 3, with a splash range of 4 ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Poison Breath Options.poisonBreathSecondsRadiation]], [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Poison Breath Options.poisonBreathRadiationAmplifier]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Poison Breath Options.poisonBreathSplashRange]]).[4]
Watch out: Drain and withering breath both use amplifier 4 in this pack, higher than the amplifier 3 of poison breath and the amplifier 1 of acid and radiation breath.[4]

Radiation immunity

The mod has an injection whose tooltip says it makes you immune against Nuclear Radiation. A used injection is marked as "Already used Injection", and the immunity is lost after dying, so you will need a fresh one after a death.[3]

Pack-changed recipes

The pack changed the recipe for the Syringe. It needs a Radiation Bottle as one of its ingredients.[2]

How do you progress through Ore Dragons?

2 parts

The sources I have for Ore Dragons in this pack cover the recipes for Dragon Meal and Syringe. The pack has changed both, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default recipes.[2]

Dragon Meal

Dragon Meal is crafted with a shaped recipe that the pack has changed. The recipe below is the exact in-pack version.[2]

This is the pack-changed recipe, and it uses Radiation Bottle.

Syringe

Syringe also has a shaped recipe that the pack has changed. Check the recipe below before you plan your materials.[2]

Tip: Both pack recipes use Radiation Bottle, so plan how you'll get it before you start gathering anything else.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest involving Ore Dragons, so I can't place the mod on the pack's quest path.

Which Ore Dragons config options matter?

4 parts

Everything for Ore Dragons lives in one file, config/oredragons-common.toml. The values below are exactly how this pack sets them. The file I was given shows the pack's current values but not the mod's defaults, so I can't say which numbers the pack changed.[4]

Dragon stats

Each dragon has its own max health, armor and attack damage. The pack sets the Coal Dragon at 800 health, 5 armor and 8.5 attack damage, and the Netherite Dragon at 5,500 health, 9 armor and 14 attack damage. Other dragons fall between those two.[4]

  • Coal Dragon: [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Coal Dragon Options.coalDragonMaxHealth]] is 800, [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Coal Dragon Options.coalDragonArmor]] is 5 and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Coal Dragon Options.coalDragonAttackDamage]] is 8.5.[4]
  • Diamond Dragon: [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Diamond Dragon Options.diamondDragonMaxHealth]] is 3,500, [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Diamond Dragon Options.diamondDragonArmor]] is 7 and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Diamond Dragon Options.diamondDragonAttackDamage]] is 11.[4]
  • Netherite Dragon: [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Netherite Dragon Options.netheriteDragonMaxHealth]] is 5,500, [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Netherite Dragon Options.netheriteDragonArmor]] is 9 and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Options.Netherite Dragon Options.netheriteDragonAttackDamage]] is 14.[4]

The file also has stat entries for Allthemodium, Dracolich, Unobtainium and Vibranium dragons, but the config labels all four as not implemented yet. Don't expect to meet them.[4]

Where dragons spawn

Each dragon has a structure biome list and a dimension. An asterisk means every biome. In this pack most dragons use every biome in the Overworld. The Netherite Dragon is set to the Nether instead, so look for it there.[4]

The Obsidian Dragon is the pickiest. [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Dragon Structure Options.Obsidian Dragon Structure Options.obsidianDragonStructureBiomes]] is limited to mushroom_fields and badlands_plateau, in the Overworld.[4]

Breath and effects

Every breath type listed here does 5 damage in this pack, for example [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Fire Breath Options.fireBreathDamage]]. Fire breath sets you on fire for 5 seconds, and ice breath freezes you for 2.5 seconds.[4]

  • Drain breath is the harshest of the status breaths: [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Breath Options.Drain Breath Options.drainBreathDrainAmplifier]] is 4 for 8 seconds.[4]
  • Withering breath uses a wither amplifier of 4 for 4 seconds.[4]
  • Poison breath uses an amplifier of 3 for 4 seconds, with a splash range of 4.[4]
  • The effects themselves are tuned too. [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Effect Options.Drain Effect Options.drainEffectDrainAmount]] is 5,000 and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Effect Options.Radiation Effect Options.radiationEffectDamageAmount]] is 10.[4]
  • Acid ticks for 1.5 damage with a 1 second cooldown ([[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Effect Options.Acid Effect Options.acidEffectDamageAmount]] and [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Effect Options.Acid Effect Options.acidEffectDamageCooldown]]).[4]

Dragon caves

[[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Structure Options.dragonCaveChestWeight]] is 80 here, and the config notes that a higher value means fewer chests. [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Structure Options.dragonCaveShellBlock]] is set to tfc:rock/bricks/granite, which gives caves an extra shell of that block. Leaving it empty removes the shell.[4]

Tip: Having trouble finding a cave? Set [[config:config/oredragons-common.toml#Debug Options.printSpawnedDragonCavesConsole]] to true. It is false in this pack, and when on it prints spawned dragon caves into the console.[4]

Unverified Which of these values differ from the mod's own defaults is unverified, because the sources only show the pack's current settings.
