Immersive Petroleum is a mod in All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0, where it is version 4.2.0-22. Adds oil and oil processing to Immersive Engineering (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Immersive Petroleum?

Immersive Petroleum is included in this pack at version 4.2.0-22, built for Minecraft 1.18.2 (the file is ImmersivePetroleum-1.18.2-4.2.0-22.jar). The pack's mod list shows it was there in this version or earlier.[1]

The mod ships its own in-game guide, which includes a credits page for community translators. The current version lists localizations for zh_CN, de_DE, ru_RU, ja_JP, es_es and ko_KR.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the mod's machines and items do, who it suits best, or where it fits in this pack's progression, so I'm not guessing. This page will get more detail once that information is confirmed.

How do you get started with Immersive Petroleum?

5 parts

Immersive Petroleum is about finding oil, refining it and turning the results into fuel and useful blocks. The mod's own advancement tree starts with finding an oil reservoir using the Seismic Survey Tool, so that is where you begin too.[3]

Find some oil

Craft the Seismic Survey Tool first. A sample shows how many buckets are in the reservoir (with a percentage) and the expected pressure in mB/t. The sample also records the coordinates where it was taken, so you can find a good spot again.[3][4]

Get the Projector and the Distillation Tower

The Projector is your building helper. Its tooltip says it displays instructions, and right-clicking it opens its menu when no multiblock is selected. The mod also has an advancement for forming the Distillation Tower.[3][4]

Look after your machines

The mod has advancements for lubricating a machine by hand and for placing an Automatic Lubricator next to a machine, so both are worth making early. The Lubricant Can is the manual option, and the Automatic Lubricator is the one you place beside a machine.[3][4]

Make gasoline

The Refinery makes Gasoline from Naphtha and Gasoline Additives. You get the additives by running kerosene through the Distillation Tower, and that step also gives you more naphtha and some sulfurized diesel.[3][4]

Put the bitumen to work

Bitumen is an ingredient for Asphalt Concrete. The pack changed this recipe, so follow the version below. Asphalt has a tooltip saying it increases walking speed, and the mod has an advancement for sprint-jumping on it.[3][4]

Tip: The pack also changed Thermal's Pyrolyzer recipe for coke sources. It now outputs Crude Oil alongside coal coke and tar, so it is worth a look as another source of crude oil.[4]

How does Immersive Petroleum work?

6 parts

Immersive Petroleum is a chain: you find oil, pump it up, refine it in big multiblocks, then turn the products into fuel, building materials and boat upgrades. The sources I have are thin on exact numbers like power draw, tank sizes and processing times, so this section sticks to what they confirm and flags what they don't.[3][4]

Finding oil

Everything starts with the Seismic Survey Tool. Using it to find an Oil Reservoir is the first advancement in the mod. A survey result tells you the amount in buckets, as a percentage, and the expected pressure in mB/t. The tool also records where the sample was taken, by coordinates.[3][4]

The Derrick has a settings screen with a Set button that applies a path to the Derrick and a Reset button that goes back to the last config if possible. The sources don't explain what the path controls or how the pipe layout works. The only pipe detail I can confirm is how the grid overlay is coloured, covered below.[3]

Refining multiblocks

Two multiblocks do the main refining: the Distillation Tower and the High-Pressure Refinery Unit (HPRU). Each has an advancement for forming it. The Coker is a third machine, which I can confirm from its own recipe type. The sources don't show the shapes or required blocks for any of them, so use the in-game projector, covered below, for the layout.[3][4]

The Distillation Tower splits fluids into several products. Kerosene goes in and Sulfurized Diesel, Gasoline Additives and Naphtha come out. Cracked lubricant gives Sulfurized Diesel and Kerosene.[4]

The HPRU handles the upgrading step. The advancements describe cracking Naphtha in it and upgrading Naphtha into Gasoline. There is also one for producing a bucket of each naphtha product.[3]

The Coker turns fluid and bitumen into solid fuel. It takes Sulfurized Diesel, bitumen and water and makes Petcoke.[4]

Using the products

Gasoline is the key fuel. You can insert it into the Portable Generator and use it to fill the Motorboat. The pack changed the bottling recipe for the Gasoline Bottle from the mod's version, so check the recipe below instead of assuming defaults.[3][4]

Asphalt Concrete is built from bitumen, gravel, sand and water in a fluid-aware crafting recipe, and the pack changed it from the mod's version. Walking on it increases your walking speed, though the sources I have don't give the percentage. Paraffin Wax does the opposite: it decreases walking speed by 5% and is slippery.[3][4]

Machine upkeep

Machines can be lubricated. You can do it by hand with the Lubricant Can, or place an Automatic Lubricator next to a machine. Each has its own advancement. The sources don't say which machines benefit or how much.[3][4]

How do you progress through Immersive Petroleum?

5 parts

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving Immersive Petroleum in this pack, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path. There is no quest-guided order to follow, so the progression below is built from the in-pack recipes.

Without quests, the mod's progression is a chain of refining steps. Each product feeds the next machine. Here is how it unfolds, step by step.[4]

Crude oil and the distillation tower

Everything starts with Crude Oil. The distillation tower splits it into Bitumen, Sulfurized Diesel, Kerosene, Lubricant and Naphtha. Those outputs feed every later step.[4]

Distillation (immersivepetroleum)

  • 50× any crude oil

The pack also changed the Thermal pyrolyzer recipe that turns coke-source materials into coal coke, crude oil and tar, so that machine gives you another source of crude oil.[4]

How does Immersive Petroleum work with other mods?

3 parts

Immersive Petroleum leans heavily on Immersive Engineering in this pack. Most of the machines and gadgets you craft from the mod are built from Immersive Engineering parts, so your oil setup and your Immersive Engineering progress need to move together. There is also a Thermal link that gives you another way to get crude oil.[4]

The Portable Generator is built around an Immersive Engineering Generator Block and an LV Accumulator, so you need to get that far in Immersive Engineering first.[4]

The Seismic Survey Tool is the most Immersive Engineering-heavy craft of the lot. It uses a Revolver Barrel and a Revolver Hammer from the revolver, plus a Light Engineering Block block and Steel Scaffolding.[4]

A few smaller items also draw on Immersive Engineering. The Expanded Fuel Tank uses a Metal Barrel. The Projector uses a Lantern. The Automatic Lubricator uses a Fluid Pipe. The Motorboat uses an Iron Mechanical Component and a Light Engineering Block block.[4]

Unverified The sources here show no quest that involves Immersive Petroleum, so any quest-based connection to other mods is not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book for that.

Which Immersive Petroleum config options matter?

1 part

The only Immersive Petroleum config this pack gives me to work with is the client config, and the options in it are all about colors. I can't see any gameplay values here, so I won't say anything about oil generation, machine speeds or energy use.[5]

Pipe grid colors

The options live in the GridColors group of the client config. Each one takes a hex RGB color, and this is how the pack sets them:[5]

Tip: If the colors are hard to tell apart on your screen, you can change the hex values in config/immersivepetroleum-client.toml.[5]
