What is Beyond Earth (Forge)?

3 parts

Beyond Earth is a technology and space exploration mod. You build rockets, leave the Overworld and visit other worlds. You can also build oxygenated space stations and bases, and survive out there. If you've always wanted to play astronaut in a modded world, this is the mod for it.[1]

What you get

  • Five planets and moons across two solar systems: Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Glacio.[1]
  • Vehicles: four rocket tiers and a rover.[1]
  • Machines such as generators, refineries and workbenches, which help you build rockets and get around space safely.[1]
  • More than 100 blocks, plus oxygen management and a custom gravity system.[1]

Who it's for

It's for you if you like a long-term goal to build toward: gear up, construct a rocket, then set up a base that keeps you breathing on another world. Oxygen and gravity are real mechanics here, so plan each trip before you launch.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Beyond Earth version 6.2, built for Minecraft 1.18.2. It has been part of the pack since version 1.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]

Unverified The sources I had don't show where Beyond Earth sits in the pack's progression, and I couldn't confirm any pack-specific changes to its recipes or configs. I also couldn't confirm an in-game guidebook for this version, so check recipes in-game before you plan a rocket build. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Beyond Earth (Forge)?

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Beyond Earth is a space exploration mod where you build rockets and visit the Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Glacio. In this pack, your first big goal is the Tier 1 Rocket and a launch site to fly it from. Here is the order I'd work in.[1][3]

Start with the NASA Workbench

The Tier 1 Rocket recipe is made in the NASA Workbench, so this is your first craft. The mod even has an advancement for crafting it.[4][5]

Engine and tank

The Tier 1 Rocket needs a rocket fin, a rocket nose cone, a steel engine and a steel tank, plus a compressed steel item. Start with the engine parts. The Engine Fan and Engine Frame recipes were both changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Check the recipes below.[4]

Launch pad

A rocket needs somewhere to take off. The Rocket Launch Pad recipe was changed by the pack. The quest a quest in "?" asks you to hand in the Tier 1 Rocket along with 9 launch pads, so plan your materials for that many.[3][4]

Tip: Crafting the Tier 1 Rocket earns you an advancement, and entering the Moon has its own advancement, so the first trip is well worth aiming for.[5]

Fuel

The Fuel Refinery is another recipe changed by the pack, and the mod's own tooltip says you can find Oil in the Ocean. It's worth having the refinery ready before your first launch.[4][5]

How does Beyond Earth (Forge) work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Beyond Earth is built around getting you off the planet and keeping you alive out there. The mod lists generators, refineries and workbenches as its machines, and says they help you travel space safely and build rockets. It also has oxygen management and a custom gravity system.[1]

Oxygen

Oxygen is a core survival system, and this pack leaves both halves switched on. [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Player Oxygen System]] is set to true, and so is [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Entity Oxygen System]], which covers entities.[1][6]

The mod also lets you build oxygenated space stations and bases to survive in space.[1]

Oil

The mod's in-game recipe viewer tooltip says you can find Oil in the Ocean.[5]

Power and processing machines

The pack changed the recipes for two early machines, so don't rely on the mod's defaults here. Check the in-pack versions below for the Coal Generator and the Compressor.[4]

How do you progress through Beyond Earth (Forge)?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Beyond Earth progression in this pack runs on rockets. The quest data covers one step, the Tier 1 rocket quest a quest in "?". It asks you to hand in a Tier 1 Rocket and 9 Rocket Launch Pad. It unlocks after another quest in the pack's quest book.[3]

Getting to your first rocket

The Tier 1 Rocket is not made in a normal crafting grid. You craft it in the NASA Workbench, so that is your first stop.[4]

  1. Craft the NASA Workbench.[4]
  2. Make the rocket parts: a Rocket Fin and a Rocket Nose Cone.[4]
  3. Make a Steel Engine and a Steel Tank. The engine recipe also needs an Engine Fan and an Engine Frame.[4]
  4. Combine the parts in the NASA Workbench to get the Tier 1 Rocket.[4]
  5. Craft the Rocket Launch Pad blocks. The quest wants 9 of them.[3][4]

Watch out: The pack changed several recipes on this path: the launch pad, the steel tank, the engine fan and the engine frame. It also changed the compressor, the fuel refinery, the coal generator, the oxygen tank, the oxygen gear and the oxygen loader. Follow the recipes on this page instead of what you remember from the standalone mod.[4]

Engines and tanks by material

Beyond the steel set, the pack has engine and tank recipes for desh, ostrum and calorite. They are plain mod recipes, with no pack changes shown.[4]

The desh, ostrum and calorite engine recipes all use desh plates alongside the engine fan and frame, so get desh processing set up before you build any of them.[4]

How does Beyond Earth (Forge) work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Beyond Earth connects to two other parts of the pack: TFC and Ex Nihilo Sequentia. The planets' ores smelt into TFC metals and gems, and the planets' sands can be sieved for TFC ores. One more recipe in Ex Nihilo Sequentia also takes an item from this mod.[4]

Planet ores give TFC items

The pack changed the furnace and blast furnace recipes for the planet ores, so they now give TFC items. Each ore has both a smelting and a blasting recipe.[4]

Smelting

Sieving planet sand

The pack adds Ex Nihilo Sequentia sieve recipes for three sands from this mod. They turn space sand into TFC ores, and the ore grade depends on which planet the sand comes from.[4]

All three sands also give bismuth, nickel, silver, tin, zinc and gold ores, each at that sand's grade.[4]

Tip: If you want the best ores from a sieve, bring Venus Sand home. Moon Sand gives the poor grade and Mars Sand gives the normal grade, while Venus Sand gives the rich grade and covers the most gem types.[4]

The pack changed the crafting recipe for Emerald Mesh so that it takes an item from this mod. You can see the exact recipe below.[4]

Which Beyond Earth (Forge) config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Beyond Earth keeps all of its settings in one file, config/beyond_earth-common.toml. It's a short file made up of on/off switches, and this pack leaves every one of them enabled.[6]

Oxygen systems

The mod's oxygen management is one of its headline features, and these two switches control it. Both are set to true here, so oxygen matters for you and for mobs.[1][6]

  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Player Oxygen System]] is true, so the oxygen system applies to the player.[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Entity Oxygen System]] is true, so the oxygen system applies to entities too.[6]

Mob spawns

The file has a spawn toggle for each of the mobs listed below, and this pack sets every one of them to true. None of these mobs have been switched off.[6]

  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Alien Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Alien Zombie Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Martian Raptor Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Mogler Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Pygro Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Pygro Brute Spawn]]: true[6]
  • [[config:config/beyond_earth-common.toml#Beyond Earth Config.Star Crawler Spawn]]: true[6]
Tip: If you'd rather not deal with a particular mob, set its spawn option to false in this file. That's the only kind of change these options allow, since each one is a simple enable/disable switch.[6]
