What is Roots Classic?
Roots Classic is part of the pack. This version of the pack ships Roots Classic 26.1.2-1.6.7, and it has been in the pack since this version or an earlier one.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Roots Classic adds, who it suits best, or how it fits into the pack's progression, so I'm not going to guess. There is no in-jar guidebook or platform metadata to draw on. The pack data also shows no quests involving this mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Roots Classic?
7 parts
Roots Classic is a nature-magic mod, and almost everything in it points back to one book. The best way to start is to craft that book, then work through the tools, spell gear and ritual blocks in the order below. This order is my suggested path, not something the pack enforces.[2]
Step one: the Runic Tablet
Make the Runic Tablet first. It's the guidebook for the mod and explains all of its spells and rituals. Almost every other item's description sends you back to it, so keep it on you.[2]

Step two: the Bark Knife
Next comes the Bark Knife. Use it on a log to peel bark, which is used in magic rituals. The pack has bark items for oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry and pale oak.[2]

Step three: Mortar and Pestle
The Mortar and Pestle work as a pair to create spells. While you're out gathering, keep an eye on tall grass: Old Root is a basic spell component and drops from it.[2]
The pack has two recipes for the Pestle, this one and the one shown next.
Step four: the Imbuer for staffs
Once you have Spell Powder, the Imbuer lets you create a magical staff from it. Spell Powder is a combination of ingredients that makes up a spell, and the Runic Tablet is where you look those up.[2]

Step five: ritual blocks
Rituals are how you get the stronger gear. The Casting Altar is the centerpiece for casting rituals, and the Incense Brazier holds the incense that burns during them. Standing stones build the ritual patterns shown in the Runic Tablet: the Mundane Standing Stone is the basic ritual stone, and the Attuned Standing Stone is the advanced one.[2]

What rituals give you
Ritual-made gear includes the self-repairing Living tools, such as the Living Pickaxe, as well as Sylvan and Wildwood armor. Ritual crafting also covers the Runic Focus, which stores energy for rituals, and the Crystal Staff, an advanced spellcasting staff.[2][3]
Easy early extras
Healing Poultice gives instant healing when eaten, and Growth Powder is used to grow grass on dirt.[2]

How does Roots Classic work?
6 parts
The sources here describe Roots Classic as ritual magic: you grind spell ingredients, build ritual layouts around an altar, and use staffs and standing stones. They describe no machines, power, fluid or item automation. The mod's own guidebook, the Runic Tablet, is described as the place that explains all its spells and rituals.[2]
Gathering ingredients
Most of the early work is collecting plant materials. The Bark Knife peels bark from logs. Right-click a log to harvest bark, but there is a chance the log block breaks. Breaking leaves by hand can occasionally give you a random berry, and there are five different kinds.[2]

The tablet says several rarer spell components can drop from ordinary farming and exploring, each with its own drop chance:[2]
- Old roots drop at a 1/40 chance when you break tall grass. They are needed for spells without modifiers, and you can eat them for a very small amount of hunger.[2]
- Verdant sprigs can drop at a 1/30 chance when you harvest fully grown crops. The tablet says their uses often relate to bringing life to objects.[2]
- Infernal bulbs can drop at a 1/20 chance from grown nether wart. The tablet says they are useful when a large amount of energy is needed, and that they can also be used as fairly effective furnace fuel.[2]
- Dragon's eyes drop at a 1/10 chance from chorus flowers. Besides spell uses, you can eat them for a stronger chorus fruit effect or smelt them into one ender pearl.[2]
Making spells and staffs
The item descriptions say the Mortar and Pestle are used together to create spells. Spell Powder is described as a combination of ingredients that makes up a spell.[2][3]
The Imbuer is described as the block for creating any magical staff using Spell Powder. The staff's own description says it is created using Spell Powder on the Imbuer.[2][3]

Ritual layout
The descriptions call the Casting Altar the centerpiece for casting rituals, and the Incense Brazier the block that holds incense to burn during rituals. The Mundane Standing Stone is described as the basic ritual stone and the Attuned Standing Stone as the advanced one, both used to create ritual patterns as shown in the Runic Tablet.[2][3]

The Runic Focus and Charged Runic Focus are described as storing energy for Roots rituals. The recipe dump lists both as ritual recipes.[2][3]
Ritual (rootsclassic)
Recipe id: rootsclassic:ritual/crafting/charged_runic_focus
The item descriptions say things like the living tools and the Sylvan and Wildwood armor are obtained using a magic ritual rather than normal crafting. The recipe dump lists them under a dedicated ritual recipe type.[2][3]
Standing stones that work on their own
Several standing stones are described as beacon-style blocks or as having an effect on the area around them. For these, the description says the crafting ritual is defined in the Runic Tablet. The plain Standing Stone is the exception: it is described only as decoration.[2]
- Accelerating Standing Stone: described as a speed beacon.[2][3]
- Entangling Standing Stone: described as a slowness beacon.[2][3]
- Healing Standing Stone: described as a regeneration beacon.[2][3]
- Growing Standing Stone: described as a growth booster for your plants.[2][3]
- Igniting Standing Stone: described as burning your enemies.[2][3]
- Repulsing Standing Stone: described as repulsing nearby stuff.[2][3]
- Vacuum Standing Stone: described as vacuuming nearby stuff.[2][3]
- Standing Stone: described as a Standing Stone for decoration.[2][3]

The Crystal Staff
The tablet describes the Crystal Staff as storing spells indefinitely, up to four at a time. Adding spells requires a separate ritual. In addition to that ritual's displayed components, you may add up to four additional Spell Powders as incenses. Each of these will be added to the staff, overwriting previous spells if necessary. Sneak and right-click to cycle through the staff's spells.[2][3]
Small utilities
Growth Powder is described as growing grass on dirt: right-click to throw it at a block within 4 blocks of you, growing grass in a small area. Mutating Powder is described as made using the power of a nether star, and the tablet says it is only used in very specific circumstances specified in its spell components section.[2][3]

Unverified The sources don't give the exact ritual layouts, the ingredients or the energy cost, and they don't say how a Runic Focus is charged. They also don't say whether this pack changes any Roots Classic recipe or value, and no config files were provided. Check the Runic Tablet in-game for the layouts.
How do you progress through Roots Classic?
3 parts
Roots Classic is a nature-magic mod, and in this pack its recipes fall into two groups. Some are made in a normal crafting grid. The rest use a separate ritual recipe type added by the mod. That split is the clearest way to see how your gear scales up, so I've organised this section around it.[3]
Unverified No quests in this pack appear to involve this mod, so there is no quest-guided path. The groupings below come only from the recipe types in the pack's recipe dump. The exact order to tackle them, and what each ritual needs, is not confirmed here.
Crafting-grid basics
These recipes use the regular crafting grid and cover the tools and stations the rest of the mod builds on: the Mortar, the Pestle (it has two separate recipes in the pack), the Casting Altar, the Incense Brazier, the Imbuer, the Runic Tablet and the Bark Knife.[3]

Stage 2: ritual crafting
Everything else in the dump uses the mod's ritual recipe type, so it can't be made in an ordinary crafting grid. This is where the mod's more powerful gear lives.[3]
- Casting focuses and staff: Runic Focus, Charged Runic Focus and Crystal Staff.[3]
- Weapon: Engraved Blade.[3]
- Living tools: Living Sword, Living Pickaxe, Living Axe, Living Shovel and Living Hoe.[3]
- Sylvan armor: Sylvan Hood, Sylvan Tunic, Sylvan Robe and Sylvan Boots.[3]
- Wildwood armor: Wildwood Mask, Wildwood Plate, Wildwood Leggings and Wildwood Boots.[3]
