What is Pylons?
2 parts
Pylons describes itself as "just another magic block mod". Its project page says it currently adds blocks for expelling players, applying potion effects from a distance, harvesting crops, and blocking mob spawns. This pack includes Pylons 6.0.1.[1][2]
The pylons
- Expulsion Pylon: made for servers. It expels other players from the chunk it's placed in. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter, and OPs are always whitelisted.[1]
- Infusion Pylon: applies effects to you from any distance, though it may need chunkloading. It works with activated Potion Filters.[1]
- Harvester Pylon: the project page currently lists it as harvesting crops in a configurable radius from 3x3 to 9x9 and outputting to an inventory above it. You place it inside the water block of the farm.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: the project page currently lists it as preventing all spawns of the mobs you specify within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5.[1]
Good to know
- To activate a Potion Filter, apply an effect to yourself, for example from a potion, then right-click the filter. The minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds by default, and it takes all your remaining duration.[1]
- The project page currently says a fully activated filter needs 1 hour of total duration, the equivalent of 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1]
- The project page currently says the Harvester Pylon needs a hoe in its inventory by default and uses 1 durability per crop harvested. It also says a config option disables this, and that unbreakable hoes such as Mystical Agriculture's Supremium Hoe can be used.[1]
- For the Interdiction Pylon, the project page currently describes right-clicking a mob with a Mob Filter, then adding that filter to the pylon to block that mob.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show where the pack's quest book places Pylons, which chapter or group it sits in, or whether the ATM Star path uses it.
How do you get started with Pylons?
5 parts
Most pylons work the same way: you craft one, place it, and add filters that tell it what to target. There is no fixed order to follow, so this is a suggested one built from what each pylon does.[3]
Harvester Pylon: automatic crops first
Start with the Harvester Pylon. It harvests crops in a range from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and outputs to an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops.[3]

By default (it's configurable) the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest, unless the hoe is unbreakable. Unbreaking and other durability enchants are supported. It can also be configured to require power instead.[3]
Mob Filter and Interdiction Pylon: control spawns
Next, make a Mob Filter. Right-click a mob with it to select that mob. Then add the filter to an Interdiction Pylon to stop that mob spawning within 1x1 to 5x5 chunks, natural and forced spawns both.[3]

If you would rather block everything, the Lifeless Filter blocks all mobs instead. It only stops natural spawns, but its range grows to 25x25 chunks, and it disables other mob filters.[3][4]

Protection Pylon: stop your own accidents
The Protection Pylon prevents you, the owner, from breaking blocks or killing mobs inside a 1x1 to 5x5 chunk range. Add Mob Filters and Block Filters to choose which mobs and blocks are protected.[3]

Infusion Pylon: potion effects from anywhere
The Infusion Pylon applies effects to you from any distance, using activated Potion Filters. To activate one, get the effect on yourself, then right-click with the filter in hand to extract it.[3]
By default (configurable) the minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds, and a filter needs 1 hour of duration to activate. That is the equivalent of 7.5 vanilla extended potions. Also by default, the pylon loads its chunk while the owner is online.[1][3]

Expulsion Pylon: keep other players out
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a 1x1 to 5x5 chunk range. Whitelist friends with a Player Filter. OPs are automatically whitelisted, and so are team members if team support is enabled.[3]

How does Pylons work?
8 parts
In Pylons you place a pylon and give it filters, and most pylons then do their job in a chunk range around them. The only power use is an optional setting on the Harvester Pylon. Everything below is how the mod behaves in this pack.[3][5]
Filters: how you configure pylons
Filters are how you tell a pylon what to target. You pick a target with a right-click, then insert the filter into the pylon. A Player Filter is bound by right-clicking a player, a Mob Filter by right-clicking a mob, and a Block Filter by right-clicking a block.[3]
The Potion Filter works differently. You activate it with a potion effect, as covered in the Infusion Pylon part below. The Lifeless Filter needs no target at all. It disables natural spawns in range, increases the range to 25x25 chunks, and disables other mob filters.[3][4]

Every pylon below can be toggled automatically with redstone.[3]
Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a chunk range you select, from 1x1 to 5x5 chunks. You whitelist players by putting a Player Filter in it. OPs are whitelisted automatically, and so are team members when team support is enabled.[3]
In this pack general.teamSupportEnabled is true. It only has an effect if a compatible team mod (FTB Teams or Argonauts) is installed. The pack also sets these limits:[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions is set to the Overworld only, so the pylon is only allowed to operate there.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2. The center chunk isn't counted, so that gives the 5x5 maximum.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy the pylon.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1. It sets a radius around world spawn where the pylon may not operate, and it only takes effect if it is larger than the world spawn radius gamerule.[5]

Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a range from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around it and outputs to an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of the farm, or level with the crops.[3]
In this pack harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so you need a hoe inside the pylon. Each harvest costs 1 durability unless the hoe is unbreakable. Unbreaking and other durability enchants are supported.[3][5]
harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts. harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false in the pack. That option controls whether tools can be piped in, and by default unbreakable tools are required for full automation.[5]
Optional power mode
The pack leaves harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower off. If it were enabled, the tool requirement would be disabled and each harvested block would cost RF. The cost is set by harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost, which is 5 here, and the buffer by harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer, which is 1,000. The config notes say the buffer should be greater than the cost per block multiplied by 80.[5]

Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon lets you apply effects to yourself from any distance, using activated Potion Filters. Get a potion effect on yourself, then right-click with the filter in hand to extract it.[3]
Your filter needs 1 hour of stored duration to activate, which equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions. The minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds. These are infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration (3,600 seconds) and infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration (60 seconds). The minimum exists to prevent unintended interactions with mods that add persistent potion effects at low durations.[1][3][5]
To combine two filters with the same effect, hold one in each hand and right-click. The off-hand filter's duration is added to the main-hand one. You can also right-click with the same effect active to increase a filter's progress.[1][3]
What the pack allows
- Only effects from the minecraft namespace are allowed (infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects).[5]
- Absorption and the Tombstone effect ghostly_shape are denied (infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects). The deny list overrides the allow list, and effects can also be banned with the pylons:infusion_banned tag.[5]
- Maximum potency is 3 (infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency). The value is 0-indexed, so Resistance V would be potency 4.[5]
- Applied effects last up to 20 seconds and are refreshed every 60 ticks (infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration).[5]
- The pylon chunkloads itself while its owner is online (infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true), limited to one pylon per player.[3][5]

Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of the mobs you specify within a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5. Add Mob Filters to choose which mobs to block. With a Lifeless Filter it blocks all mobs instead, but only natural spawns, over a much larger range.[3]

How do you progress through Pylons?
2 parts
The pack data for Pylons is a list of crafting recipes. It doesn't give a tier ladder or an unlock order, so this section just lays out what you can craft and how.[4]
The pylons you can craft
The pack lets you craft these pylons: the Harvester Pylon, Infusion Pylon, Interdiction Pylon, Expulsion Pylon and Protection Pylon. Their recipes are shown below.[4]

Which Pylons config options matter?
4 parts
All the Pylons settings live in one file, config/pylons-server.toml. Every numeric option in it that lists a mod default is set to that default, so this pack didn't change any of those numbers. What follows is how the pack sets the options you're most likely to care about.[5]
Harvester Pylon
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the harvester needs a hoe and uses 1 durability per harvest action.[1][5]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false, so you can't pipe tools in to automate it. The option's description says that by default, unbreakable tools are required for full automation.[5]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts. That matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 10 to 120.[5]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false. If you turned it on, it would drop the tool requirement and charge RF per block instead.[5]
- If power were enabled, harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 RF per block and harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000. Both are mod defaults, and the buffer should be greater than the cost per block times 80.[5]
Infusion Pylon
- infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration is 3,600 seconds, so a Potion Filter needs 1 hour of total duration before you can use it. That's the mod default, and it equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1][5]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration is 60 seconds, the shortest effect duration a Potion Filter can use. It's the mod default, and it exists to avoid odd interactions with other mods' persistent low-duration effects.[5]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3. The value is 0-indexed, so Resistance V would be potency 4 and 3 is the highest you can apply here.[5]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds. The duration is refreshed up to that amount every 60 ticks.[5]
- infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true, so the pylon chunkloads itself. This is limited to one pylon per player, and only while that player is online.[5]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects is set to the whole minecraft namespace. infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects blocks minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape, and the denied list overrides the allowed one.[5]
Expulsion Pylon
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions only lists minecraft:overworld, so the Expulsion Pylon only operates in the Overworld.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, the mod default and the top of its range. It doesn't count the center chunk, so a radius of 2 means a 5x5 chunk area.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy the pylon.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1, the mod default. It only takes effect if it's larger than the world's spawn radius.[5]
Teams
general.teamSupportEnabled is true, so team support is active when a compatible mod such as FTB Teams or Argonauts is installed.[5]
What changed in Pylons between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships with Pylons 6.0.1. The pack has included the mod since All the Mods 11 0.0.5 or earlier, so it has been around for a good while.[2]
Mod releases
- 6.0.0: the initial port to NeoForge 26.1.[6]
- 6.0.1: an update for compatibility with NeoForge 26.1.2.22-beta. This is the version in the pack right now.[2][7]
Both of the mod's changelogs are about getting it running on newer NeoForge versions, so there is nothing here about new content or changed behaviour. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so I can't tell you how it has changed between pack releases.[6][7]
