What is Productive Farming?

Productive Farming is part of the pack, which ships version 26.1.2-0.12.0 of the mod. It was first included in this pack in 0.8.0-beta or earlier.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm what Productive Farming adds, who it suits best, or how it fits into the pack's progression. The sources I have only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. I'm not guessing at its features, items or recipes.

Unverified I found no quests for this mod and no sign that it sits on the ATM Star path, so I can't give you a progression route for it. Check in-game, for example in the recipe viewer, to see what the mod adds in this pack. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Productive Farming?

4 parts

Productive Farming is built around multiblock farms that harvest crops for you. I can't give you a confirmed, step-by-step crafting order for this pack, so this section sticks to what the pack data shows: how the farm is put together, and the crop and crate recipes you can look up.[2]

Know what a farm needs

The minimum farm size is 3x3, and corners are optional. The inside can be any block your crops need. The farm also needs a Farm Controller to work as a multiblock.[2]

Once it's running, crops planted in the farm are harvested automatically. While they grow, they have a small chance to improve their traits.[2]

Get your first crops

The pack has a crafting recipe for Cantaloupe Seeds, so you can start a crop without waiting on a lucky drop. Here is the in-pack recipe:[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • Cantaloupe Slice

There is also a recipe that makes the Cantaloupe itself.[3]

Crates for storage

Most crops in the mod have two crate recipes. One crafts the crate, and a shapeless unpack recipe turns the crate back into the crop. There are crate recipes for vanilla-style crops too, such as the Carrot Crate. Here is how that one is made:[3]

Upgrades and animals

Farm Controller upgrades can be installed, and you can fit several of the time upgrade. It shortens the time between harvesting attempts, so use it with care. The stability upgrade strips stats from the crops you collect, which works against the trait improvement above.[2]

If you make a farm taller, it can work as a fish farm. Creatures inside its boundaries are bred and slaughtered automatically, and fish produce nutrient-rich water you can pump to a crop farm for faster growth.[2]

Unverified The Farm Controller recipe, the recipes for the other farm blocks and the best order to craft them are not confirmed in the available data. No quests in this pack involve this mod, so check the recipe viewer in-game for those. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Productive Farming work?

7 parts

Productive Farming is built around multiblock farms. You build a structure, put a Farm Controller in it, plant your crops inside, and the farm harvests them for you. Here is what the sources confirm about how that works in this pack.[2]

Building a farm multiblock

  • The minimum size for the farm is 3x3, and the corners are optional.[2]
  • The inside of the farm can be any block your crops need, so you can lay the floor out to suit what you're growing.[2]
  • The farm multiblock must have a Farm Controller.[2]

How crop farming works

Crops planted in the farm are harvested automatically. When crops grow they also have a small chance to improve their traits, so a farm left running can slowly give you better crops.[2]

You can also pollinate by hand. Pollen is used on a fully grown crop to pollinate it manually.[2]

Farm Controller upgrades

The Farm Controller accepts upgrades. The sources describe three of them by their tooltips.[2]

  • The stability upgrade strips stats from collected crops.[2]
  • The time upgrade decreases the time between harvesting attempts. The tooltip says to use it with care, and that multiple upgrades can be installed.[2]
  • The second-tier time upgrade is described as twice as good as the other one.[2]
Watch out: The stability upgrade strips stats from the crops you collect. Think twice before installing it on a farm where you're trying to improve crop traits.[2]

Fish farms and aquaponics

If you make your farm taller, you can use it as a fish farm. Creatures inside the farm boundaries are bred and slaughtered automatically.[2]

Fish produce nutrient rich water, which can be pumped to a crop farm for increased growth. You can also combine the two farms into an aquaponics system.[2]

Troughs for animals

  • The Feeding Trough makes nearby animals breed.[2]
  • The Watering Trough increases the growth speed of nearby animals.[2]

Special crop requirements

Some crops have placement rules, and their tooltips tell you about them. Double crops need two blocks of space to grow. Fencepost crops must be planted on a fence post. Mushroom crops have a chance of growing new shrooms on the side of the composter when you compost them.[2]

Item tooltips also show the Latin name for each crop, and extra info is hidden behind holding [SHIFT].[2]

Crates

Crops can be stored in crates, such as the Agave Crate. The crate recipes are shaped crafting recipes, and the ones shown in the pack have a matching shapeless unpack recipe that turns the crate back into the crop, for example Agave.[3]

Crate recipes follow this pattern, and a shapeless unpack recipe turns the crate back into the crop.

How do you progress through Productive Farming?

1 part

I'd love to give you a neat tier ladder here, but nothing I can verify shows Productive Farming having tiers or a set progression order in this pack. Rather than guess, I'll stick to what the pack's recipe data does show.[3]

What the pack's recipes cover

Most of the mod's recipes in this pack are about crates. Each crop has a shaped recipe that makes a crate, like Agave Crate, and a shapeless unpack recipe that turns the crate back into the crop, like Agave. The same pattern covers a long list of crops, including berries, tomatoes, corn varieties and grapes. It also includes crates such as Carrot Crate and Beetroot Crate.[3]

9× AgaveMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

There are also a few standalone recipes: a shapeless one for Cantaloupe, a shapeless one for Cantaloupe Seeds, and a shaped one for the Corn Cob Pipe.[3]

Unverified I can't confirm any quest line, tier breakdown or recommended progression order for Productive Farming in this pack. The recipe data I have lists no item inputs for these recipes and says nothing about unlock order, so treat any progression advice for this mod as unconfirmed.
