What is Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?

2 parts

Iron's Arms 'n Artifice adds historical-fantasy firearms and an Artificer style of buildcrafting. You craft guns, then tinker with them by adding modifiers to build the setup you want. The pack includes version 26.1.2-1.1.0 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 0.6.0-beta or earlier.[1][2]

Getting started

The simplest gun is the Flintlock pistol. Blackpowder is a new crafting ingredient that the mod uses for guns, modifiers and bullets.[1]

  • Hold a gun and press G to open its modifier slot menu.[1]
  • Press R to reload and add more bullets.[1]
  • The Illificer is the first gunslinging enemy. When you kill him, he drops the modifiers from his gun. Look for him in later raid waves, or leading Illager patrols.[1]

Progression

You can craft a variety of Mechanical Components to forge other guns. Each gun has its own niche and can work at any stage of the game with the right build. Modifiers can be crafted too, using a variety of ingredients, and there is armor to craft to go with your guns.[1]

The Recipe Book lists all of the mod's recipes, though the mod's own page recommends JEI for learning them.[1]

Tip: The mod needs NeoForge and GeckoLib to run.[1]

How do you get started with Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?

5 parts

Iron's Arms 'n Artifice adds historical-fantasy firearms. The order below is a simple way in: Blackpowder first, then the Flintlock, then bullets, then everything else.[1]

Step one: make Blackpowder

Blackpowder is a crafting ingredient used for guns, modifiers and bullets, so it is the first thing to sort out. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[1][3]

Where to go next

Other guns are forged with Mechanical Components. Simple Mechanical Components has its own in-mod advancement for obtaining it, and there are also Mechanical Components and Clockwork Components.[1][3][4]

The mod has seven guns, and there is an advancement for obtaining all seven. Besides the Flintlock they include the Blackpowder Revolver, the Six-Shooter, the Musket, the Arquebus, the Blunderbuss and the Clockwork Rifle.[3][4]

Modifiers are the next step once you have a gun. They are crafted with a variety of ingredients, and installing your first one earns an advancement.[1][4]

Tip: The Illificer, the first gunslinging enemy, drops the modifiers from its gun when you kill it. Look for it in later raid waves or leading Illager patrols.[1]

How does Iron's Arms 'n Artifice work?

7 parts

Iron's Arms 'n Artifice is a firearms mod, so the systems the sources describe are guns, ammo and gun modifiers. There are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to wire up here. Everything revolves around building a gun, loading it and tuning it with modifiers.[1]

The seven guns

The mod has seven guns, and there is an advancement for obtaining all of them. The simplest is the Flintlock pistol, which the project page says only needs a little wood, iron and Blackpowder.[1][4][5]

Blackpowder

Blackpowder is a new crafting ingredient used for guns, modifiers and bullets. The pack has three ways to make it, and they give different amounts: the basic shapeless recipe makes 2, the gunpowder recipe makes 6, and the charcoal recipe makes 1.[1][3]

Mobs drop it too. An Illificer drops 1 to 2 Blackpowder, and a drowned pirate drops 3 to 6. Looting can add up to 1 more in each case.[6][7]

Ammo and reloading

Bullet is the mod's ammo item. Use R to reload your gun and add more bullets.[1][8]

In this pack, bullets are crafted from either copper or iron. The copper recipe gives 4 bullets and the iron recipe gives 16.[3]

Modifiers

Modifiers are what turn a plain gun into a build. Hold the gun and press G to open its modifier slot menu. A gun's tooltip shows how many modifier slots it has and which key opens the menu.[1][4]

Modifier items have their own tooltip section headed "When Used as Gun Modifier:". The mod tracks modifier use with advancements for installing a modifier and for filling every modifier slot on a gun.[4]

The pack lets you craft many modifiers with shaped recipes, for example Hair Trigger Modifier, Gun Oil Modifier and Chain Shot Modifier. Here is one to show the idea.[1][3]

Hats with abilities

The Cowboy Hat gives an insta-reload for your gun when you get a kill, and it has a cooldown. An advancement rewards getting another kill with the bullets from that insta-reload. The Tricorne makes the first shot from a full magazine do bonus damage.[4]

How bullets treat the world

The mod's advancements show that bullets can ricochet, and that they can kill while you are fully submerged.[4]

The mod also has block tags for bullets. Glass blocks, glass panes and the decorated pot are in its always_break tag, and the target block is in its never_break tag.[9][10]

Gunslinging enemies

The Illificer is the first gunslinging enemy. You find him in later raid waves or leading Illager patrols, and he drops the modifiers out of his gun when killed.[1]

His loadout is one main modifier plus 1 to 3 auxiliary ones. The main modifier is one of Seeking Powder, Incendiary Tip, Frozen Jacket or Voltaic Core. The auxiliary modifiers come from Scattershot, Wind Chamber, Singularity Charge, Lead Core, Trick Bullet and Voltaic Core.[11][12][13]

The drowned pirate carries a Flintlock or a Blunderbuss. The Flintlock is weighted 3 to the Blunderbuss's default weight. Its loadout also includes the Spiral Tip and Bayonet Attachment Modifier modifiers. Its drops also include an emerald, gold ingot or diamond roll.[6][14][15]

How do you progress through Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide

This section covers what the sources show about getting started with Iron's Arms 'n Artifice in this pack. They do not give a tier order for the guns, so I won't invent one. What they do show is the early materials, the recipes that exist, and what the mod's mobs carry and drop.[16]

Blackpowder and bullets

Blackpowder is the base material. The basic recipe gives 2 blackpowder, another turns gunpowder into 6 blackpowder, and a further one uses charcoal.[16]

Crafting the guns

The guns you can craft in the pack are the Flintlock, Blunderbuss, Musket, Arquebus, Blackpowder Revolver, Six-Shooter and Clockwork Rifle. Alongside them you can make the Simple Mechanical Components, Mechanical Components and Clockwork Components. Here are the first two guns:[16]

Drowned pirates

The drowned pirate is a source of early materials. On top of the normal drowned drops, it drops 3 to 6 Blackpowder. It also drops a bonus item: emerald (up to 3, weighted 6), a smaller amount of gold ingot (weighted 3) or a diamond. Looting can raise the counts by a small extra amount.[17]

A drowned pirate's loadout picks its gun from a pool with the Flintlock (weight 3) and the Blunderbuss. Its loadout also includes the Spiral Tip Modifier and the Bayonet Attachment Modifier.[18][19]

The Illificer

The Illificer drops a few emeralds and a small amount of Blackpowder. Looting can raise both counts a little.[20]

Its loadout has a single main modifier roll, plus a few rolls on an auxiliary pool. The auxiliary pool holds the Scattershot Modifier, Wind Chamber Modifier, Singularity Charge Modifier, Lead Core Modifier, Trick Bullet Modifier and Voltaic Core Modifier.[21][22]

Unverified The Illificer's main modifier comes from the loot table irons_artifice:loadouts/illificer/main_modifier, and the sources here do not show what is in it.

What changed in Iron's Arms 'n Artifice between versions?

3 parts

All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta ships Iron's Arms 'n Artifice 26.1.2-1.1.0. The mod has been in the pack since 0.6.0-beta or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

26.1.2-1.1.0 (the version in this pack)

  • New Soulfire Coin Modifier: it gives a chance to create a Soul-Empowering Coin on hit.[23]
  • New Bullet Box item: it works like a bundle and can store up to 256 Bullets.[23]
  • The Blackpowder Charge Modifier now stacks explicitly, gaining +1 Radius for each additional modifier.[23]
  • Fixed Muzzle Flash spawning when using shaders.[23]
  • Korean translations were added.[23]
  • For addon developers: a new OnShotEffect handler that runs whenever a gun shoots, a generic SimpleMobEffectPostHit handler, and bundle-like Bullet Container classes.[23]

26.1.2-1.0.1 and 26.1.2-1.0.0

Version 26.1.2-1.0.1 updated the Russian, Ukraine and Chinese localizations. It also changed the recipes for Hair Trigger and Gun Oil.[24]

Version 26.1.2-1.0.0 added the Suppressor Attachment, Hook Shot and Bloodletting Tip modifiers. It also added the guns and ammo item tags.[25]

  • Balance: Clockwork Rifle damage was buffed from 6 to 7, and Frozen Jacket damage per shrapnel was nerfed from 50% to 33%.[25]
  • The tooltip now shows Fire Rate at the effective fire rate instead of the raw rate, rounded to ticks.[25]
  • Fixed Bullets not firing the projectile impact event.[25]
  • Reworked fire delay handling to reduce network jitter that could make automatic guns stutter, especially on laggy connections.[25]
  • This release also had several breaking API changes for addon developers, such as GunProfile becoming a final class built with GunProfile.Builder.[25]

Earlier releases

  • 0.2.1 added Advancements.[26]
  • 0.1.1 added the Spiral Tip Modifier, which removes underwater drag.[27]
  • 0.1.1 also reduced Spread from Movement Penalty by about 35%.[27]
  • 0.1.1 fixed terrain damage not firing event hooks, which had caused conflicts with other mods such as chunk claiming.[27]
  • 0.1.1 fixed the Scope Attachment Modifier being affected by the client's FOV Effects slider.[27]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so any pack-specific changes to it across All the Mods 11 releases are not shown. Those would be listed in the pack's own changelog.
