What is Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?
2 parts
Iron's Arms 'n Artifice adds historical-fantasy firearms and an Artificer-style buildcrafting system. You craft guns, tinker with them, and engineer builds around them. If you want to add ranged combat to your modded run and enjoy experimenting with gear setups, this mod is for you.[1]
The pack includes version 0.2.1 of the mod. It runs on NeoForge and needs GeckoLib, which is why you'll see that library alongside it.[1][2]
What you can do with it
- Start with the Flintlock pistol, the simplest gun in the mod. Blackpowder is a new crafting ingredient used for guns, modifiers and bullets.[1]
- Hold a gun and press G to open its modifier slot menu. Press R to reload and add more bullets.[1]
- Craft a variety of Mechanical Components to forge other guns. Each gun has its own niche and is viable at any stage of the game with the right build.[1]
- Craft modifiers with a variety of ingredients, and visit the wardrobe to craft armor that goes with your gear.[1]
- Hunt the Illificer, the first gunslinging enemy. It drops the modifiers from its gun when killed, and you can find it in later raid waves or leading Illager patrols.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The mod page says each gun is viable at any stage of the game, so you aren't locked behind a particular point in progression.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show a specific place for this mod in the pack's progression, such as a quest path or a required tier. Treat it as an optional addition you can pick up whenever you like.
How do you get started with Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?
6 parts
Welcome to Iron's Arms 'n Artifice! You craft historical-fantasy firearms, then tinker with them using modifiers. Here is the order I'd go in, and why.[1]
Blackpowder first
Start with Blackpowder. It's a new crafting ingredient used for guns, modifiers and bullets, so a lot of what comes later depends on it. This pack has more than one recipe for it, including one that uses charcoal and one that uses gunpowder, so you can pick whichever route suits you.[1][3]

Bullets
Next, make some Bullet. The pack has one recipe that starts from copper and one that starts from iron, so you can use whichever metal you have.[3]

Your first gun: the Flintlock
The Flintlock is the simplest gun in the mod, which makes it the best one to start with. Once you have it, hold it and press G to open its modifier slot menu. Press R to reload and add more bullets.[1]

Mechanical components for the other guns
The other guns are forged from a variety of Mechanical Components, and each gun carves out its own niche. The mod page says every gun is viable at any stage of the game with the right build. Obtaining Simple Mechanical Components even earns you an advancement.[1][3][4]

There are seven guns in total, and there's an advancement for obtaining all of them. In this pack they are the Arquebus, Blackpowder Revolver, Blunderbuss, Clockwork Rifle, Flintlock, Musket and Six-Shooter. Getting the Clockwork Rifle has its own advancement too.[3][4]
Modifiers
Once your guns are working, craft modifiers, which the mod page says come next in progression. Installing your first one earns an advancement, and filling every modifier slot on a gun earns another. A gun's tooltip shows how many modifier slots it has and the key that opens them.[1][4]
You can also get modifiers by fighting. The Illificer, the first gunslinging enemy, drops the modifiers out of his gun when he dies. Look for him in later raid waves or helming Illager patrols.[1]
Extras
The mod page also suggests visiting the wardrobe to craft armor to go with your guns. The mod adds the Tricorne and the Cowboy Hat, and both are tied to advancements: one for killing with a Tricorne's first shot, and one for getting another kill with the bullets from a Cowboy Hat insta-reload.[1][3][4]
How does Iron's Arms 'n Artifice work?
5 parts
Good news and a heads-up. This mod is about firearms and gun-building, not machines. The sources describe no multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it, so there is nothing to wire up. What you get is a gun-and-modifier system, and that is what this section covers.[1]
Handling a gun
Hold a gun and press G to open its modifier slot menu. Press R to reload and add more bullets. The starter gun is the Flintlock, which uses Blackpowder in its recipe.[1]

A gun's tooltip shows how many modifier slots it has and which key opens them. Modifier items also have a "When Used as Gun Modifier" tooltip section that describes what they do once installed.[4]
Blackpowder and bullets
Blackpowder is a crafting ingredient used for guns, modifiers and bullets, so you will make a lot of it. The pack has a basic recipe for it, plus one that starts from charcoal and one that starts from gunpowder.[1][3]

Mechanical components and the other guns
Beyond the Flintlock, you craft a variety of mechanical components to forge the other guns. The pack has recipes for Simple Mechanical Components, Mechanical Components and Clockwork Components. Which gun needs which component is not shown in the sources here, but the project page recommends a recipe viewer such as JEI for learning recipes.[1][3]
The other guns with recipes in the pack are the Musket, Arquebus, Blunderbuss, Blackpowder Revolver, Six-Shooter and Clockwork Rifle. Each gun carves out its own niche and can work at any stage of the game with the right build.[1][3]

Modifiers
Modifiers are crafted with a variety of ingredients and installed through the G menu. You can also get them from the Illificer, a gunslinging enemy that drops the modifiers out of its gun when killed. Look for it in later raid waves or helming Illager patrols.[1]
Examples you can craft in the pack include Hair Trigger Modifier, Scattershot Modifier, Scope Attachment Modifier, Bayonet Attachment Modifier and Mechanical Repeater Modifier. The sources here do not give their exact effects.[3]

What the advancements tell you
The advancement descriptions hint at how the shooting mechanics behave:[4]
- Bullets can ricochet, and a kill with a ricocheted bullet counts for an advancement.[4]
- There is an advancement for killing something with a bullet while fully submerged, and a bullet can hit several creatures in one shot. One advancement asks for 5 or more kills with a single bullet.[4]
- A single shot can fire multiple bullets, as the advancement for hitting one target with 12 or more bullets from one shot shows.[4]
- Bayonet charges can kill, and the Cowboy Hat has an insta-reload.[4]
- Distance matters. One advancement asks for 20 or more damage from 100 or more blocks away.[4]
- Fire rate is tracked, with an advancement for 15 shots in one second.[4]
Unverified No config files for this mod are available for the pack, so any tuned damage, reload times or modifier slot counts are unverified.
How do you progress through Iron's Arms 'n Artifice?
4 parts
Here's the honest picture for this pack: the only thing I can confirm about Iron's Arms 'n Artifice progression is which items have crafting recipes. The recipe dump lists them but doesn't show their ingredients, so I can't give you a verified tier-by-tier ladder, and I won't guess at one. The recipe blocks below render the exact in-pack recipes.[3]
Ammo and powder
You can craft Blackpowder in several ways: a plain shapeless recipe, a shaped recipe from charcoal and a shapeless recipe from gunpowder. Bullet has a shaped recipe from copper and another from iron.[3]
