What is YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments?
2 parts
YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments is a complete redesign of Minecraft's ocean monuments. If you've ever thought the vanilla monument was a bit cramped and not worth the trip, this mod is aimed at you.[1]
Monuments from this mod are much larger than the vanilla ones, and their layouts are completely randomized, so every monument is a fresh layout to explore.[1]
The reward is better too. The mod's description promises much better loot, including Tridents and a Heart of the Sea.[1]
Version and compatibility
The pack ships version 1.21.1-NeoForge-4.1.2 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[2]
The mod is meant to work with every worldgen mod. Its project page names a few: YUNG's Better Desert Temples, YUNG's Better Mineshafts, YUNG's Better Strongholds, YUNG's Extras, YUNG's Bridges and Repurposed Structures.[1]
Where it fits in your progression
Unverified The sources here do not show where the pack's quest book places this mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. That detail lives in the pack's quest book, so check its chapters if you want to know.
How do you get started with YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments?
3 parts
Good news: there is nothing to craft before you start with YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments. It's a worldgen mod that completely redesigns Minecraft's ocean monuments, so your first steps are about exploring and getting ready for a bigger fight, not about building a tool.[1]
What changes in the ocean
Better Monuments are much larger than vanilla ones and have completely randomized layouts. Don't count on memorizing a route from one monument to the next, because each one can be laid out differently.[1]
The loot is the reason to go. The mod's project page promises much better rewards, including Tridents and a Heart of the Sea.[1]
Your first steps
- Gear up and prepare for a long dive. These monuments are bigger than vanilla, so expect to spend more time inside one.[1]
- Find an ocean monument. The mod redesigns monuments rather than adding a new structure, so you are looking for the same kind of structure you already know, just a larger one.[1]
- Explore it fully. The layouts are randomized, so check every section for the improved loot.[1]
Crafting and quests
Unverified I found no recipes for this mod's items and no quests that involve it, so there is no crafting order to follow here. If you spot something in your world that suggests otherwise, treat it as unconfirmed until it's verified.
How does YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments work?
3 parts
This one is a bit different from most mods on the wiki. YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments is a world generation mod, so it has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for you to set up. Its whole job is to change the ocean monuments you find in the world.[1]
What the mod changes
The mod completely redesigns Minecraft's ocean monuments. Better Monuments are much larger than their vanilla counterparts and have completely randomized layouts, so every monument you explore can be different.[1]
The loot is better too. The project page specifically mentions Tridents and a Heart of the Sea as rewards for the trip.[1]
Vanilla monuments
The mod's language file describes an option called disableVanillaMonuments, which controls whether vanilla ocean monuments are disabled. Its tooltip reads: whether or not vanilla ocean monuments should be disabled.[3]
Unverified No config file for this mod is available in the pack sources, so the pack's actual value for disableVanillaMonuments is unverified. It is also unconfirmed whether the pack changes the default, and whether vanilla monuments still generate alongside the Better Monuments.
Compatibility with other worldgen mods
The mod is intended to be fully compatible with every worldgen mod. The project page names these examples:[1]
- YUNG's Better Desert Temples[1]
- YUNG's Better Mineshafts[1]
- YUNG's Better Strongholds[1]
- YUNG's Extras[1]
- YUNG's Bridges[1]
- Repurposed Structures, which also offers an optional data pack that adds repurposed versions of these overhauled monuments[1]
Unverified The sources don't cover monument room layouts, loot tables, guardian behavior or how the pack handles any of these. No recipes produce this mod's items, so there's nothing to craft here.
What changed in YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships with version 4.1.2 of the mod, the NeoForge build for 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 1.0 or earlier, so you are on the latest release covered here.[2]
Mod releases
- 4.1.2: Fixed an issue where feature mixins could cause worldgen deadlocks. This is the version in the pack now.[2][4]
- 4.1.1: Lowered the minimum version requirements so the mod works on both 1.21 and 1.21.1.[5]
- 4.1.0: The port to 1.21.1. It reduced the number of guardian spawns and updated all the structure NBT files. It also changed the horizontal trident in one entrance piece variant to spawn vertically, because the horizontal trident sometimes loaded with the wrong rotation.[6]
If you notice fewer guardians in the monuments than in older versions of the mod, that comes from the 4.1.0 change.[6]
Unverified The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so any pack-level changes to it between releases are unconfirmed.
